| 1 | Biochemical changes in phenols, flavonoids, tannins, vitamin E,β-carotene and antioxidant activity during soaking of three white sorghum varieties显示文摘Objective:To investigate the changes in total phenols, flavonoids, tannins, vitamin E, β-carotene and antioxidant activity during soaking of three white sorghum varieties. Methods: The changes in total phenols, total ilavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids compounds, flavonoid components, vitamin E,P-carotene and antioxidant activity during soaking of sorghum grains were determined. Results:Total phenols, total flavonoids, tannins, vitamin E,P-carotene and antioxidant activity in raw sorghum were ranged from 109.21 to 116.70,45.91 to 54.69,1.39 to 21.79 mg/100 g,1.74 to 5.25,0.54 to 1.19 mg/kg and 21.72%to 27.69%and 25.29%to 31.97%,respectively. The above measured compounds were significantly decreased after soaking.p-Hydroxybenzoic acid, vanillic acid, syringic acid and cinnamic acid represent the major phenolic acids in Dorado variety. While ferulic acid,p-coumaric acid, gallic acid and caffeic acid represent the major phenolic acids in Shandaweel-6.On the other hand, protocatechuic acid represents the major phenolic acids in Giza-15.Regarding flavonoids components,Dorado was the highest variety in kampferol and naringenin while Shandaweel-6 was the highest variety in luteolin, apigenin, hypersoid, quercelin and christen.Finally,Giza-15 was the highest variety in catechin. Phenolic acids, flavonoid compounds and antioxidant activities were decreased after soaking. Conclusions:Sorghum varieties have moderate quantities from total phenols, total flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids compounds, flavonoid components, vitamin E,P-carotene and antioxidant activity which decreased after soaking. | Abd El-Moneim MR Afify Hossam S El-Beltagi Samiha M Abd El-Salam Azza A Omran | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,3: | 7 |
| 2 | Effect of lead acetate toxicity on experimental male albino rat显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the effect of different doses of lead acetate(1/20,1/40 and 1/60 of LD_(50))on body weight gain, blood picture, plasma prolein profile and the function of liver, kidney and thyroid gland. Methods:Male albino rats were divided into four groups, the first group represented the health control animals, while the second, third and fourth groups were ingested orally with sub lethal doses of load acetate(1/20,1/40 and 1/60)of the oral LD_(50),respectively.One dose was ingested every two days during the experimental period(14 weeks)including the adaptation time.Blood was collected and used for all analysis. Results:The results showed that, the ingestion of Pb^(2+)induced significant stimulation in glutamic-pyruvic transaminase(ALT)and glutamic-oxalacetic transaminease(AST)activity. Also, total soluble protein and albumin contents of plasma were significantly decreased, while the content of globulin was changed by the Pb^(2+)treatments.The cholinesteiase activity was inhibited, but the activities of alkaline and acid phosphates and lactate dehydrogenase were stimulated, while plasma glucose level was elevated as a result of lead acetate intoxication. In case of blood picture,Pb^(2+)ingestion reduced the contents of hemoglobin and RBCs count of intoxicated rat's blood and the plasma levels of T3,T4 and blood WBCs count were decreased. Conclusions:It can be concluded that lead acetate has harmful effect on experimental male albino rats. Therefore, the present work advises people to prevent exposure to the lead compound to avoid injurious hazard risk. | Nabil M Ibrahim Esam A Eweis Hossam S El-Beltagi Yasmin E Abdel-Mobdy | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,1: | 1 |

| 17 | Intensive care unit readmission in adult Egyptian patients undergoing living donor liver transplant:A single-centre retrospective cohort study显示文摘BACKGROUND Patients who undergo living donor liver transplantation(LDLT)may suffer complications that require intensive care unit(ICU)readmission.AIM To identify the incidence, causes, and outcomes of ICU readmission after LDLT.METHODS A retrospective cohort study was conducted on patients who underwent LDLT.The collected data included patient demographics, preoperative characteristics, intraoperative details;postoperative stay, complications, causes of ICU readmission, and outcomes.Patients were divided into two groups according to ICU readmission after hospital discharge.Risk factors for ICU readmission were identified in univariate and multivariate analyses.RESULTS The present study included 299 patients.Thirty-one(10.4%)patients were readmitted to the ICU after discharge.Patients who were readmitted to the ICU were older in age(53.0±5.1 vs 49.4±8.8,P=0.001)and had a significantly higher percentage of women(29%vs 13.4%,P=0.032),diabetics(41.9%vs 24.6%,P=0.039),hypertensives(22.6%vs 6.3%,P=0.006),and renal(6.5%vs 0%,P=0.010)patients as well as a significantly longer initial ICU stay(6 vs 4 d,respectively,P<0.001).Logistic regression analysis revealed that significant independent risk factors for ICU readmission included recipient age(OR=1.048,95%CI=1.005-1.094,P=0.030)and length of initial hospital stay(OR=0.836,95%CI=0.789-0.885,P<0.001).CONCLUSION The identification of high-risk patients(older age and shorter initial hospital stay)before ICU discharge may help provide optimal care and tailor follow-up to reduce the rate of ICU readmission. | Manar Salah Iman Fawzy Montasser Hanaa A El Gendy Alaa A Korraa Gamal M Elewa Hany Dabbous Hossam R Mahfouz Mostafa Abdelrahman Mohammed Hisham Goda Mohamed Mohamed Bahaa El-Din Mahmoud El-Meteini Heba A Labib | 2022 | World Journal of Hepatology2022,14,6: | 0 |
