| 3 | Performance of a novel bent-up bars system not interacting with concrete显示文摘Increasing the bending and shear capacities of reinforced concrete members is an interesting issue in structural engineering.In recent years,many studies have been carried out to improve capacities of reinforced concrete members such as using post and pre-tensioning,Fiber Reinforced Polymer and other techniques.This paper proposes a novel and significant technique to increase the flexural capacity of simply supported reinforced concrete beams.The proposed method uses a new reinforcement bar system having bent-up bars,covered with rubber tubes.This technique will avoid interaction of bent-up bars with concrete.They are located in the zone where compressive and tensile forces act against one anothe匚The compressive force in the upper point of the bent-up bars is exerted to the end point of these bars located under neutral axis.Moreover,the tensile stress is decreased in reinforcements located under the neutral axis.This will cause the Reinforced Concrete(RC)beam to endure extra loading before reaching yield stress.These factors may well be considered as reasons to increase bending capacity in the new system.The laboratory work together with finite element method analysis were carried out in this investigation.Furthermore,bending capacity,ductility,strength,and cracking zone were assessed for the new proposed system and compared with the conventional model.Both the FEM simulation and the experimental test results revealed that the proposed system has significant impact in increasing the load bearing capacity and the stiffness of the RC beams.In the present study,an equation is formulated to calculate bending capacity of a new reinforcement bar system beam. | Aydin SHISHEGARAN Mohammad Reza GHASEMI Hesam VARAEE | 2019 | Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering2019,13,6: | 8 |
| 4 | NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF FLOW OVER TWO SIDE-BY-SIDE CIRCULAR CYLINDERS显示文摘In the present paper, the unsteady, viscous, incompressible and 2-D flow around two side-by-side circular cylinders was simulated using a Cartesian-staggered grid finite volume based method. A great-source term technique was employed to identify the solid bodies (cylinders) located in the flow field and boundary conditions were enforced by applying the ghost-cell technique. Finally, the characteristics of the flow around two side-by-side cylinders were comprehensively obtained through several computational simulations. The computational simulations were performed for different transverse gap ratios (1.5≤T/D≤4) in laminar (Re=100,200) and turbulent (Re=104) regimes, where T and D are the distance between the centers of cylinders and the diameter of cylinders, respectively. The Reynolds number is based on the diameter of cylinders,D. The pressure field and vorticity distributions along with the associated streamlines and the time histories of hydrodynamic forces were also calculated and analyzed for different gap ratios. Generally, different flow patterns were observed as the gap ratio and Reynolds number varied. | 5 | Viral hepatitis prevalence in patients with active and latent tuberculosis显示文摘AIM: To assess the prevalence of hepatitis B virus(HBV) and hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection and association with drug induced liver injury(DILI) in patients undergoing anti-tuberculosis(TB) therapy.METHODS: Four hundred and twenty nine patients with newly diagnosed TB- either active disease or latent infection- who were due to commence antiTB therapy between September 2008 and May 2011 were included. These patients were prospectively tested for serological markers of HBV, HCV and human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) infections- hepatitis B core antigen(HBc Ag), hepatitis B surface antigen(HBs Ag), hepatitis B e antigen, Ig G and Ig M antibody to HBc Ag(anti-HBc), HCV Ig G antibody and HIV antibody using a combination of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, Western blot assay and polymerase chain reaction techniques. Patients were reviewed at least monthly during the TB treatment initiation phase. Liver function tests were measured prior to commencement of antiTB therapy and 2-4 wk later. Liver function tests were also performed at any time the patient had significant nausea, vomiting, rash, or felt non-specifically unwell. Fisher's exact test was used to measure significance in comparisons of proportions between groups. A P value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.RESULTS: Of the 429 patients, 270(62.9%) had active TB disease and 159(37.1%) had latent TB infection. 61(14.2%) patients had isolated anti-HBc positivity, 11(2.6%) were also HBs Ag positive and 7(1.6%) were HCV-antibody positive. 16/270 patients with active TB disease compared to 2/159 patients with latent TB infection had markers of chronic viral hepatitis(HBs Ag or HCV antibody positive; P = 0.023). Similarly the proportion of HBs Ag positive patients were significantly greater in the active vs latent TB infection group(10/43 vs 1/29, P = 0.04). The prevalence of chronic HBV or HCV was significantly higher than the estimated United Kingdom prevalence of 0.3% for each. We found no association between DILI and presence of serological markers of HBV or HCV. Three(5.3%) patients with serological markers of HBV or HCV infection had DILI compared to 25(9.5%) patients without; P = 0.04.CONCLUSION: Viral hepatitis screening should be considered in TB patients. | 6 | Effects of heat treatment on the intermetallic compounds and mechanical properties of the stainless steel 321–aluminum 1230 explosive-welding interface显示文摘The effects of heat treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of intermetallic compounds in the interface of stainless steel 321 explosively bonded to aluminum 1230 were investigated in this study. Experimental investigations were performed by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and microhardness and shear tensile strength testing. Prior to heat treatment, increasing the stand-off distance between samples from 1 to 2.5 mm caused their interface to become wavy and the thickness of intermetallic layers to increase from 3.5 to 102.3 μm. The microhardness increased from HV 766 in the sample prepared at a stand-off distance of 1 mm to HV 927 in the sample prepared at a stand-off distance of 2.5 mm; in addition, the sample strength increased from 103.2 to 214.5 MPa. Heat treatment at 450°C for 6 h increased the thickness of intermetallic compound layers to 4.4 and 118.5 μm in the samples prepared at stand-off distances of 1 and 2.5 mm, respectively. | 7 | Design and optimization of equivalent consumption minimization strategy for 4WD hybrid electric vehicles incorporating vehicle connectivity显示文摘This paper presents an optimized equivalent consumption minimization strategy(ECMS) for four-wheel-drive(4 WD) hybrid electric vehicles(HEVs) incorporating vehicle connectivity. In order to be applicable to the 4 WD architecture, the ECMS is designed based on a rule-based strategy and used under the condition that a certain propulsion mode is activated. Assuming that a group of 4 WD HEVs are connected and position information can be shared with each other, we formulate a decentralized model predictive control(MPC) framework that compromises fuel efficiency, mobility, and inter-vehicle distance to optimize the velocity profile of each individual vehicle. Based on the optimized velocity profile, an optimization problem considering both fuel economy and battery state of charge(SOC) sustainability is formulated to optimize the equivalent factors(EFs) of the ECMS for HEVs over an appropriate time window. MATLAB User Datagram Protocol(UDP) is used in the codes run on multiple computers to simulate the wireless communication among vehicles, which share position information via UDP-based communication, and dSPACE is used as a software-in-the-loop platform for the simulation of the optimized ECMS. | 12 | Bovine salmonellosis in Northeast of Iran:Frequency,genetic fingerprinting and antimicrobial resistance patterns of Salmonella spp.显示文摘Objective:To evaluate serovar and antimicrobial resistance patterns of Salmonella spp isolated from healthy,diseased and necropsied cows and calves in this observational study.Methods:Nineteen isolates recovered from feces and tissues of salmonellosis-affected animals of two commercial farms in north-east of Iran.In second part of the study,the two farms were sampled 4 times with an interval of 2 month.The samples included calves'feces,adult cows'feces,feeds,water,milk filters,and milk fed to calves.Five Salmonella were isolated from 332fecal samples collected from calves and peri-parturient cows.No Salmonella was recovered from water,feed,milk filers and milk fed to calves.Results:Salmonella Typhimurium was the most frequently isolate among all sero-groups.S.Dublin was only accounted for 8%(two out of 24)of isolates.Isolated Salmonella strains were used for the ERIC PCR DNA fingerprinting assay.Our results grouped Salmonella isolates into 3 clusters,suggesting that specific genotypes were responsible for each sero-group of Salmonella.The results also revealed diversity among Salmonella isolates in cluster III(sero-group B).Eighteen out of 19 Salmonella spp.were resistant to oxytetracycline.Five isolates out of 19 showed more than one drug resistance.Multi-drug resistance was seen only among Salmonella Typhimurium isolates.Enrofloxacin was the most susceptible antibiotic against all isolates in this study.Conclusion:The emergence of multiple antibiotic-resistant strains of Salmonella Typhimurium should be of great concern to the public.No correlation between ERIC fingerprinting and resistance patterns of Salmonella isolates was found,which indicates resistance to antimicrobial agents was not related to specific genetic background. | Hessam A.Halimi Hesam A.Seifi Mehrnaz Rad | 2014 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2014,4,1: | 2 |

During fabrication, a printer head is used to print a liquid on to thin layers of powder following the object's profile as generated by the system computer. This work looks at redesigning 3DP machine, using piezoelectric demand-mode technology head in order to improve accuracy, surface finishing and color quality of constructed models. | 17 | Investigating a potential reservoir landslide and suggesting its treatment using limit-equilibrium and numerical methods显示文摘A reservoir landslide not only reduces the water storage capacity, but also causes extensive damages to the dam body, power/water transmission lines, roads, and other infrastructures. The Latian Dam, located 35 km north east of Tehran(Iran), is one of the cases which has encountered serious problems with instability of its rock abutments. This paper addresses the stability analysis of the right abutment of the Latian Dam using limit equilibrium and numerical methods. Geomechanical characteristics of the rock abutment were first estimated based on engineering classification of the rock mass. Different search methods were examined for locating the critical circular/non-circular slip surface in conjunction with the general limit equilibrium method. The effect of variability of rock mass properties, water table, and earthquake load on the factor of safety(FS) and probability of failure(PF) was studied. In the event of rapid drawdown in the reservoir, the limit equilibrium analysis calculated FS=1.067 and PF=21.1%, and the numerical analysis returned FS=1.01. The results of the analyses suggest that the right abutment of the Latian Dam is prone to slide and needs treatment.
