| 1 | Potential toxic risk of heavy metals from sediment of the Pearl River in South China显示文摘Based on the monitoring of five heavy metal elements in the surface sediments of the Pearl River in South China, potential toxicity of the heavy metals was assessed using consensus-based sediment quality guidelines (SQGs) method and geo-accumulation (Igeo) index method. The monitoring results showed the heavy metal concentrations were significantly and positively correlated with each other, demonstrating a common trend in variation of concentration in the surface sediments. The assessment using the consensus-based SQGs method showed the potential toxicity of Cu was the highest, and Cd was the lowest. The evaluation based on mean probable effect concentration (PEC) quotient showed the region was seriously polluted with high toxicity heavy metals. Correlation analysis revealed a significant and positive correlation between the mean PEC quotient and the average of Igeo with a correlation coefficient of 0.926 (n = 23, P < 0.01). In conclusion, the consensus-based SQGs and mean PEC quotient are applicable to assess potential toxicity risks of heavy metals in freshwater sediments in the Pearl River. | NIU Hongyi DENG Wenjing WU Qunhe CHEN Xingeng | 2009 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,8: | 52 |
| 2 | Anammox bacterial abundance and biodiversity in greenhouse vegetable soil are influenced by high nitrate content显示文摘The anaerobic ammonium oxidizing(anammox) process has been found to play an important role in terrestrial ecosystems in recent years. However, the diversity and abundance of anammox bacteria in nitrogen(N)-rich agricultural soils under high fertilizer greenhouse conditions are still unclear. Two greenhouse fields with different N fertilizer input levels were chosen, and their soil profiles were studied with molecular technologies, including quantitative polymerase chain reaction assay, a clone library, and phylogenetic analysis based on hzsB(encoding anammox hydrazine synthase β-subunit) gene. Molecular analyses suggested that anammox bacteria were at their highest density at 10–20 cm soil depth, and that the anammox bacterial abundance was significantly lower at high N than at low N. Candidatus Brocadia was the sole anammox bacterial genus throughout the soil depth profiles. The highest diversity of anammox bacteria was found at 30–40 cm soil depth, and different phylotypic clusters of Candidatus Brocadia were associated with specific soil environmental factors, such as nitrates, soil depth, and total N. Correlation analyses and redundancy analyses confirmed that high nitrate content associated with high N fertilizer input had a significant negative influence on the abundance and biodiversity of anammox bacteria. These results imply that excessive use of N fertilizer would affect arid land soil N loss to the atmosphere by the anammox pathway. | Hongyi QIN Huan DENG Cheng HAN Wenhui ZHONG | 2020 | Pedosphere2020,30,3: | 2 |

| 5 | Bivariate whole-genome linkage scan for bone geometry and total body fat mass显示文摘To quantify the genetic correlations between total body fat mass(TBFM) and femoral neck geometric parameters(FNGPs) and, if possible, to detect the specific genomic regions shared by them, bivariate genetic analysis and bivariate whole-genome linkage scan were carried out in a large Caucasian population. All the phenotypes studied were significantly controlled by genetic factors(P < 0.001) with the heritabilities ranging from 0.45 to 0.68.Significantly genetic correlations were found between TBFM and CSA(cross-section area), W(sub-periosteal diameter), Z(section modulus) and CT(cortical thickness) except between TBFM and BR(buckling ratio). The peak bivariate LOD scores were 3.23(20q12), 2.47(20p11), 3.19(6q27), 1.68(20p12), and 2.47(7q11) for the five pairs of TBFM and BR, CSA, CT, W, and Z in the entire sample, respectively.Gender-specific bivariate linkage evidences were also found for the five pairs.6p25 had complete pleiotropic effects on the variations of TBFM & Z in the female sub-population, and 6q27 and 17q11 had coincident linkages for TBFM & CSA and TBFM & Z in the entire population. We identified moderate genetic correlations and several shared genomic regions between TBFM and FNGPs in a large Caucasian population. | Shufeng Lei Feiyan Deng Peng Xiao Kai Zhong Hongyi Deng Robert R. | 6 | Mitigating the Jahn-Teller distortion driven by the spin-orbit coupling of lithium manganate cathode显示文摘Spinel LiMn_(2)O_(4)is recognized as one of the most competitive cathode candidates for lithium-ion batteries ascribed to environmentally benign and rich sources. However, the wholesale application of LiMn_(2)O_(4)is predominately plagued by its severe capacity degradation, mainly associated with the innate Jahn-Teller effect.Herein,single-crystalline LiMn_(2)O_(4)with Eu^(3+) doping is rationally designed to mitigate the detrimental Jahn-Teller distortion by tuning the chemical environment of MnO_(6) octahedra and accommodating localized electron, based on the unique aspheric flexible 4f electron orbit of rare-earth metal ions.Notably, the stretching of MnO_(6) octahedron stemmed from the Jahn-Teller effect in Eu-doped LiMn_(2)O_(4)is effectively suppressed, confirmed by theoretical calculation.Meanwhile, the structural stability of the material has been significantly enhanced due to the robust Mn–O band coherency and weakened phase transition, proved by synchrotron radiation absorption spectrum and operando X-ray diffraction. The corresponding active cathode manifests superior long-cycle stability after 300 loops at 2C and displays only a 0.011%capacity drop per cycle even at 5C.Given this, this modification tactic sheds new light on achieving superior long-cycle performances by suppressing distortion in various cathode materials. | Shu Zhang Hongyi Chen Jun Chen Shouyi Yin Yu Mei Lianshan Ni Andi Di Wentao Deng Guoqiang Zou Hongshuai Hou Xiaobo Ji | 2022 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2022,31,9: | 0 |
| 7 | Indication of Soil Microbial Activity by Electrical Signals of Microbial Fuel Cells with Re-Vegetated Red Soils显示文摘Electrical signals generated by microbial fuel cells(MFCs)may potentially indicate overall soil microbial activity. This study aimed to validate whether a significant correlation existed between soil microbial activity and electrical signals in different soils.Re-vegetated red soils with four vegetation types and unplanted eroded red soil were collected and packed into MFCs.The voltage of the MFCs was recorded during operation.Electrical signals including start-up time(ST),peak voltage, and coulomb quantity were extracted from the voltage curves.Soil dehydrogenase activity(DHA) was determined as a reference method to verify the reliability of the electrical signals. After MFC operation, the anodic bacterial community was analyzed by Illumina sequencing based on the 16S rRNA gene. The results indicated that ST was significantly correlated with DHA,along with soil organic carbon content. The linear regression model described the optimal relationships for ST and DHA.Clostridium and Acinetobacter constituted the dominant genera on the anode of the MFCs.The results demonstrated that ST may indicate soil microbial activity in re-vegetated red soils. | JIANG Yunbin DENG Huan QIN Hongyi HAN Cheng ZHONG Wenhui | 2018 | Pedosphere2018,28,2: | 0 |
