Ideotype root architecture for efficient nitrogen acquisition by maize in intensive cropping systems显示文摘The use of nitrogen(N) fertilizers has contributed to the production of a food supply sufficient for both animals and humans despite some negative environmental impact.Sustaining food production by increasing N use efficiency in intensive cropping systems has become a major concern for scientists, environmental groups, and agricultural policymakers worldwide. In high-yielding maize systems the major method of N loss is nitrate leaching. In this review paper, the characteristic of nitrate movement in the soil,N uptake by maize as well as the regulation of root growth by soil N availability are discussed. We suggest that an ideotype root architecture for efficient N acquisition in maize should include(i) deeper roots with high activity that are able to uptake nitrate before it moves downward into deep soil;(ii) vigorous lateral root growth under high N input conditions so as to increase spatial N availability in the soil;and(iii) strong response of lateral root growth to localized nitrogen supply so as to utilize unevenly distributed nitrate especially under limited N conditions. | MI GuoHua,CHEN FanJun,WU QiuPing,LAI NingWei,YUAN LiXing & ZHANG FuSuo* Key Laboratory of Plant Nutrition,MOA Key Laboratory of Plant-Soil Interaction,MOE College of Resources and Environmental Science,China Agricultural University,Beijing 100193,China | 2010 | Science China(Life Sciences)2010,53,12: | 35
Elemental composition of aerosols collected in the glacier area on Nyainqêntanglha Range, Tibetan Plateau, during summer monsoon season显示文摘In order to investigate the elemental composition in atmospheric aerosols and its sources in the glacier area over the Tibetan Plateau (TP), seven totally suspended particle samples were collected continuously at the col of the Zhadang glacier (30°28′N,90°39′E,5800 m a.s.l.), Nyainqêntanglha Range, southern TP, from June to October 2006. Twenty-seven elements (Li, Be, B, Na, Mg, Al, K, Ca, Sc, Ti, V, Fe, Mn, Zn, Ga, As, Rb, Sr, Y, Cd, Cs, Ba, Tl, Pb, Bi, Th, U) were analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). The result indicates that the concentrations of most elements (especially crustal elements) are lower than values at the Nam Co Station during the same period of 2005, and also much lower than other sites in the TP such as Wudaoliang and Waliguan. This suggests that elemental compositions of aerosols in the Zhadang glacier area may represent the background levels of the middle/upper troposphere over the TP. Crustal enrichment factors (EFs) reveal that several elements (e.g. B, Zn, As, Cd, Pb and Bi) may have anthropogenic sources. The southern TP is mainly influenced by the summer Indian monsoon during the sampling period. Backward air mass trajectory analysis suggests that air masses in the region may originate from South Asia. Therefore, anthropogenic pollutants from South Asia may be transported by the summer Indian monsoon to the region which clearly affects the atmospheric environment in the southern TP during the summer monsoon season. | LI ChaoLiu1,2, KANG ShiChang1,3 & CONG ZhiYuan1,2 1 Nam Co Monitoring and Research Station for Multisphere Interactions, Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, CAS, Beijing 100085, China 2 Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100039, China 3 State Key Laboratory of Cryospheric Sciences, CAS, Lanzhou 730000, China | 2007 | Chinese Science Bulletin2007,52,24: | 18
Variations in carbon isotope ratios of C_3 plants and distribution of C_4 plants along an altitudinal transect on the eastern slope of Mount Gongga显示文摘Variations in carbon isotopic ratios (δ 13C) of C3 plants and distribution of C4 plants were investigated along an altitudinal transect on the eastern slope of Mount Gongga, and the environmental effects on them were discussed. It is shown that plants with C4 photosynthetic pathway mainly occur at altitudes below 2100 m a.s.l., suggesting that the low summer temperature is responsible for the distributional pattern. In addition, δ 13C of C3 plants increases with elevation at the region above 2000 m a.s.l. with the characteristics of humid climate, and the increase rate in δ 13C for C3 plants is about 1.3‰ per kilometer. Temperature determines the altitudinal trend of δ 13C. | LI JiaZhu1, WANG GuoAn2, LIU XianZhao1, HAN JiaMao3, LIU Min4 & LIU XiaoJuan2 1 College of Geography and Planning, Ludong University, Yantai 264025, China 2 Key Laboratory of Plant-Soil Interactions, Ministry of Education, College of Resources and Environmental Sciences, China Agri- cultural University, Beijing 100193, China 3 Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100029, China 4 College of Environmental Sciences, MOE Laboratory for Earth Surface Processes, Peking University, Beijing 100871, China | 2009 | Science China Earth Sciences2009,52,11: | 16
Ammonium improves iron nutrition by decreasing leaf apoplastic pH of sunflower plants(Helianthus annuus L.cv.Frankasol)显示文摘The effect of nitrogen form on pH and concentration of soluble iron (Fe) in leaf apoplast was investigated in hydrophonically grown sunflower plants (Helianthus annuus L. cv. Frankasol), and the mechanism underlying the improved Fe nutrition by ammonium (NH4) supply was also elucidated. Ammonium supply ameliorated Fe nutrition of plants grown without Fe through decreasing apoplastic pH and increasing soluble Fe concentration in apoplastic fluid of young leaves. The soluble Fe concentration in apoplastic fluid and cell sap of young leaves, and xylem exudates of NH4 fed-plants was higher than that of nitrate (NO3) fed-plants, and no typical Fe-deficiency chlorosis in young leaves was observed in NH4 fed plant without Fe supply. The apoplastic pH was 6.15 and 5.94 in young leaves of Fe-deficient plants fed respectively with NO3 and NH4, while in Fe-sufficient plants, the apoplastic pH was 6.43 with NO3, and 5.50 with NH4 supply. In primary leaves, the apoplastic pH was around 6.25 irrespective of nitrogen form and Fe supply. The pH of xylem exudate was 5.72 in Fe-deficient plants fed with NO3 and 5.49 with NH4. Iron nutrition increased the pH of xylem exudate by 0.27 and 0.16 unit under NO3 and NH4 supply respectively. | ZOU Chunqin & ZHANG Fusuo Key Laboratory of Plant-Soil Interactions, Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Plant Nutrition, Ministry of Agriculture of China Department of Plant Nutrition, China Agricultural University, Beijing 100094, China Correspondence should be addressed to Zhang Fusuo (e-mail: zhangfs@ cau.edu.cn) | 2003 | Chinese Science Bulletin2003,48,20: | 8
Subtropical Mode Water in the Northwestern Pacific显示文摘Based on the in situ XBT and other data sets, by analyzing the seasonal cycle of the mixed layer depth (MLD)and using the conservative potential vorticity (PV) as a tool, a clear description of the formation process of the North PacifNPSTMW reflects well the ventilation process of the isotherms of the permanent thermocline. The formation process can be the sea surface from October, the mixed layer deepens and correspondingly, the water mass with low PV emerges and sinks. After continual cooling from October to March, the mixed layer reaches its maximum value (>300 m) in March. Then, in the second phase (April-June), the mixed layer shoals rapidly from April, a large part of the low PV water mass is sheltered from further air-sea interaction by the emerging seasonal thermocline, and thus forms new NPSTMW. Further analysis indicatesthat the formation region of warm NPSTMW (17-18℃) is limited between 140°-150°E, while the relatively cold NPSTMW (16-17℃) originates in a wider longitude range (140°-170°E).Climate features of NPSTMW are presented with the use of climatological Levitus (1994a, b) dataset. It is shown that NPSTMW lies in the region of(130°-170°E, 22°-34°N) with core temperature ranging from about 16-19℃ and potential density around 25-25.8σ0. NPSTMW has a three-dimensional structure lying below the seasonal thermocline (about 100 m deep) and reaches almost to 350 m depths. | PAN Aijun, LIU QinyuPhysical Oceanography Lab. & Ocean-Atmosphere Interaction and Climate Lab., Ocean University of China, Qingdao 266003, P.R.China | 2003 | Journal of Ocean University of Qingdao2003,2,2: | 3
Microbiome in the setting of burn patients:implications for infections and clinical outcomes显示文摘Burn damage can lead to a state of immune dysregulation that facilitates the development of infections in patients. The most deleterious impact of this dysfunction is the loss of the skin’s natural protective barrier.Furthermore, the risk of infection is exacerbated by protracted hospitalization, urinary catheters, endotracheal intubation, inhalation injury, arterial lines and central venous access, among other mainstays of burn care.Currently, infections comprise the leading cause of mortality after major burn injuries, which highlights the improvements observed over the last 50 years in the care provided to burn victims. The need to implement the empirical selection of antibiotic therapy to treat multidrug-resistant bacteria may concomitantly lead to an overall pervasiveness of difficult-to-treat pathogens in burn centres,as well as the propagation of antimicrobial resistance and the ultimate dysregulation of a healthy microbiome. While preliminary studies are examining the variability and evolution of human and mice microbiota, both during the early and late phase burn injury, one must consider that abnormal microbiome conditions could influence the systemic inflammatory response.A better understanding of the changes in the postburn microbiome might be useful to interpret the provenance and subsequent development of infections,as well as to come up with inferences on the prognosis of burn patients. This review aims to summarise the current findings describing the microbiological changes in different organs and systems of burn patients and how these alterations affect the risks of infections, complications, and, ultimately, healing. | Silvia Corcione Tommaso Lupia Francesco G.De Rosa on behalf of Host and Microbiota Interaction Study Group(ESGHAMI)of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases(ESCMID) | 2020 | Burns & Trauma2020,8,1: | 3
| 7 | Conceptual model about the interaction between El Nio/ Southern Oscillation and Quasi-Biennial Oscillation in far west equatorial Pacific显示文摘Interaction between the Quasi-Biennial Oscillation in far west equatorial Pacific (QBOWP) and the El Ni?o/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is studied using a new conceptual model. In this con- ceptual model, the QBOWP effects on ENSO are achieved through two ways: (1) the oceanic Kelvin wave along equatorial Pacific, and (2) the Atmospheric Walker Circulation anomaly, while ENSO ef- fects on QBOWP can be accomplished by the atmospheric Walker Circulation anomaly. Diagnosis analysis of the model results shows that the Atmospheric bridge (Walker circulation) plays a more important role in interaction between the ENSO and QBOWP than the oceanic bridge (oceanic Kelvin wave along equatorial Pacific); It is found that by the interaction of the ENSO and QBOWP, a free ENSO oscillation with 3-5 years period could be substituted by a oscillation with the quasi-biennial period, and the dominant period of SST anomaly and wind anomaly in the far west equatorial Pacific tends to be prolonged with enhanced ENSO forcing. Generally, the multi-period variability in the cou- pled Atmosphere-Ocean System in the Tropical Pacific can be achieved through the interaction be- tween ENSO and QBOWP. | LIU Qinyu1, LIU Zhengyu2,1 & PAN Aijun 1,3 1. | 8 | Recent Advances in Studies on Formation Mechanism of Subtropical Mode Water and Its Climate Features in North Pacific显示文摘Mode Water’, as a product of air-sea interaction, influences the thermal structure and circulation pattern in upper layer ocean and consequently affects the variations of climate. In this paper the recent research results about the subtropi-cal Mode Water in the North Pacific are overiewed. A detailed description of the three kinds of Mode Water in the subtropical North Pacific and some comparisons of their similarities and differences are introduced.
