1On the study of hydrodynamic instabilities in the presence of background magnetic fields in high-energy-density plasmas显示文摘Blast-wave-driven hydrodynamic instabilities are studied in the presence of a background B-field through experiments and simulations in the high-energy-density(HED)physics regime. In experiments conducted at the Laboratoire pour l’utilisation des lasers intenses(LULI),a laserdriven shock-tube platform was used to generate a hydrodynamically unstable interface with a prescribed sinusoidal surface perturbation, and short-pulse x-ray radiography was used to characterize the instability growth with and without a 10-T B-field.The LULI experiments were modeled in FLASH using resistive and ideal magnetohydrodynamics(MHD),and comparing the experiments and simulations suggests that the Spitzer model implemented in FLASH is necessary and sufficient for modeling these planar systems. These results suggest insufficient amplification of the seed B-field,due to resistive diffusion,to alter the hydrodynamic behavior.Although the ideal-MHD simulations did not represent the experiments accurately, they suggest that similar HED systems with dynamic plasma-β(=2μ_(0)ρv^(2)/B^(2))values of less than∼100 can reduce the growth of blast-wave-driven Rayleigh–Taylor instabilities. These findings validate the resistive-MHD FLASH modeling that is being used to design future experiments for studying B-field effects in HED plasmas.M.J.-E.Manuel B.Khiar G.Rigon B.Albertazzi S.R.Klein F.Kroll F.-E.Brack T.Michel P.Mabey S.Pikuz J.C.Williams M.Koenig A.Casner C.C.Kuranz 2021Matter and Radiation at Extremes2021,6,2:0
2Paleoenvironments and geochemistry across a continuous Permian-Triassic boundary section at Bukk Mountains,Hungary显示文摘The Bálvány North Permian-Triassic boundary sediments were deposited on a carbonate platform in the tropical part of the western Paleo Tethys ocean. The overall elemental geochemistry of the detailed two-metre-thick section across the boundary that we studied shows that the clastic content of the sediments came from dominantly silica-rich continental sources though with some more silica-poor inputs in the uppermost Permian and lowest Triassic limestones as shown by Ni/Al and Nb/Ta ratios. These inputs bracket, but do not coincide with, the main extinctions and associated C,O and S changes.Increased aridity at the Permian-Triassic boundary with increased wind abrasion of suitable Ti-bearing heavy minerals accounts for both the high Ti/Al and Ti/Zr ratios.Various geochemical redox proxies suggest mainly oxic depositional conditions, with episodes of anoxia, but with little systematic variation across the Permian-Triassic extinction boundary. The lack of consistent element geochemical changes across the Permian-Triassic boundary occur not only in adjacent shallower-water marine sections, and in other marine sections along the SW Tethys margin such as the Salt Range sections in Pakistan, but also in deeper shelf and oceanic sections, and in non-marine African and European continental sediments. In the absence of significant changes in physical environments, chemical changes in the atmosphere and oceans, reflected in various isotopic changes, drove the Permian-Triassic extinctions.M.E.Brookfield J.C.Williams A.G.Stebbins 2021Geoscience Frontiers2021,12,3:0
