1Two equilibria of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current and its associated Meridional Overturning Circulation显示文摘The Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) and its associated Meridional Overturning Circulation (MOC) is investigated through a nonlinear inertia theory model, which consists of two layers--an upper Ekman layer driven mainly by sea surface wind stress and a lower thermocline controlled by ideal fluid nonlinear equations which can be solved by identifying the form of the arbitrary functions. The results show that the thermocline has a two-equilibrium solution though given the same Ekman layer condition. Compared to the first equilibrium, the second one has a heavier intensity and deeper circulation, which seems more consistent with the existing data.CHAO JiPing LI YaoKun 2012Science China Earth Sciences2012,55,2:3

3Structure of the Indian Ocean Meridional Overturning Circulation and its relationship with the zonal wind stress显示文摘We studied the structure of the Indian Ocean(IO)Meridional Overturning Circulation(MOC)by applying a nonlinear inertia theory and analyzed the coupled relationship between zonal wind stress and MOC anomalies.Our results show that the inertia theory can represent the main characteristics of the IO MOC:the subtropical cell(STC)and cross-equator cell(CEC).The stream function in equatorial and northern IO changes a sign from winter to summer.The anomalies of the zonal wind stress and stream function can be decomposed into summer monsoon mode,winter monsoon mode,and abnormal mode by using the singular vector decomposition(SVD)analysis.The first two modes correlate with the transport through 20°S and equator simultaneously whereas the relationship obscures between the third mode and transports across 20°S and equator,showing the complex air-sea interaction process.The transport experiences multi-time scale variability according to the continuous power spectrum analysis,with major periods in inter-annual and decadal scale.LI YaoKun CHAO JiPing 2014Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,2:2
4A semi-analytical model for the propagation of Rossby waves in slowly varying flow显示文摘Instead of using complicated general circulation models (GCMs), a simple semi-analytical model based on ray theory has been used to study energy evolution and ray path of Rossby waves in slowly varying mean flows. Our model yields similar results to those calculated from barotropic models, and also provides a chance to study Rossby waves in the slowly varying flows with both vertical and meridional shears. The model results show that upward Rossby waves can only grow in westerlies, and decay when further ascend. The baroclinic Rossky waves are restrained by the β effect in lower latitude. In the westerly jet with meridional and vertical shears, the barotropic Rossby waves originated from south of the westerly jet, and these can grow while propagating upper-northward. The baroclinic Rossby waves originated from north of the westerly jet and can grow while propagating upward and southward. 6Variations in Wave Energy and Amplitudes along the Energy Dispersion Paths of Nonstationary Barotropic Rossby Waves显示文摘The variations in the wave energy and the amplitude along the energy dispersion paths of the barotropic Rossby waves in zonally symmetric basic flow are studied by solving the wave energy equation,which expresses that the wave energy variability is determined by the divergence of the group velocity and the energy budget from the basic flow.The results suggest that both the wave energy and the amplitude of a leading wave increase significantly in the propagating region that is located south of the jet axis and enclosed by a southern critical line and a northern turning latitude.The leading wave gains the barotropic energy from the basic flow by eddy activities.The amplitude continuously climbs up a peak at the turning latitude due to increasing wave energy and enlarging horizontal scale(shrinking total wavenumber).Both the wave energy and the amplitude eventually decrease when the trailing wave continuously approaches southward to the critical line.The trailing wave decays and its energy is continuously absorbed by the basic flow.Furthermore,both the wave energy and the amplitude oscillate with a limited range in the propagating region that is located near the jet axis and enclosed by two turning latitudes.Both the leading and trailing waves neither develop nor decay significantly.The jet works as a waveguide to allow the waves to propagate a long distance.Yaokun LI Jiping CHAO Yanyan KANG 2021Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2021,38,1:1

13Effects of Crocin on Nox2 Expression and ROS Level of Hypoxia/Reoxygenation-induced Injury of Cardiomyocytes显示文摘[Objectives]To explore the protection mechanism of crocin against ischemia-reperfusion injury of myocardial cells.[Methods]Newborn male SD rats were selected,left ventricular cardiomyocytes(CMs)were isolated,and a hypoxia/reoxygenation model of CMs was established to simulate the process of ischemia/reperfusion injury.The cells were randomly divided into four groups:normal cell group(control group),crocin group),hypoxia/reoxygenation group(H/R group),hypoxia/reoxygenation+crocin group(H/R+crocin group).H/R+crocin group selected the concentration of crocin 1,10,and 100μmol/L,and determined the optimal concentration of crocin by detecting the cell proliferation ability.After the cells were pretreated using the optimal concentration of crocin,the levels of superoxide anion,cell proliferation,apoptosis and Nox2 levels in each group of cells were detected.[Results]Compared with the control group,the proliferation ability of CMs after hypoxia-reoxygenation injury was reduced(P<0.05),while cell apoptosis and intracellular superoxide anion levels were significantly increased(P<0.01);the CMs pretreated with crocin can reduce the level of Nox2(P<0.01),increase the cell proliferation ability of CMs,reduce cell apoptosis,and accordingly reduce the level of superoxide anion in the cell(P<0.05).[Conclusions]Crocin protects CMs from hypoxia/reoxygenation injury through down-regulating the level of Nox2 and reducing oxidative stress injury.Chao ZENG Yongji XING Lizhi BAO Yuanyuan WANG Weiqing HU Jun WU Xiaohong LIU Nengwu WEN Jiping FAN 2020Medicinal Plant2020,11,5:1

18Continental shelf waves forced by nonlinear continental shelf topography显示文摘The characteristics of continental shelf waves forced by nonlinear continental shelf topography are studied with a shallowwater model.Results show that there are two topographic Rossby waves and two inertia gravity waves.The northward propagating topographic Rossby wave couples with the inertia gravity wave into an unstable wave in the long wave band.When the continental slope is increased,the topographic Rossby wave still couples with the inertia gravity wave into an unstable wave,but the frequency decreases.In the South China Sea(SCS),the western boundary can develop an unstable wave because of topographic forcing,nonlinear conditions,and increasing amplitude.It is possible that the unstable wave develops into a vortex.In observations,the SCS has a strong western boundary current and abundant mesoscale vortice.There is a strong relationship between the emergence,disappearance,and movement of the circulation's multi-eddy structure and the seasonal evolvement of the SCS's circulation.This article shows a possible mechanism for the formation of vortices in the SCS.FENG LiCheng CHAO JiPing 2012Science China Earth Sciences2012,55,10:1

20THE DYNAMICAL BASIS OF GEOSTROPHIC ADJUSTMENT MOTIONS IN TROPICS显示文摘Some dynamic constrains in the process of the tropical baroclinic geostrophic adjustment are discussed. The dispersion equation of three-dimensional inertia-gravitational wave and the equation of temporal conservation of potential vorticity are given, without considering the gradient of planetary potential vorticity. It indicates that the motions will be horizontal, meaning that Taylor-Proudman theorem is still right for tropics. At the same time, the semi-geostrophic balance is easier to appear in the tropical belt.
