| 1 | Relationship Between Grain Yield and Yield Components in Super Hybrid Rice显示文摘Chinese super hybrid rice breeding project has developed many new varieties with great yield potential. It is controversial which yield component should be emphasized in super hybrid rice production. The present study was conducted to compare super hybrid rice with common hybrid and super inbred rice and analyze contributions of yield components to grain yield of super hybrid rice under experimental conditions, and evaluate relationships between grain yield and yield components of super hybrid rice in farmer’s paddy fields. Field experiments were done in Changsha, Guidong, and Nanxian, Hunan Province, China, from 2007 to 2009. Eight super hybrid varieties, one common hybrid variety, and one super inbred variety were grown in each location and year. Rice production investigation was undertaken in high-yielding (Guidong), moderate-yielding (Nanxian), and low-yielding (Ningxiang) regions of Hunan Province, China, in 2009. Grain yield and yield components were measured in both the field experiments and rice production investigation. Super hybrid rice varieties outyielded common hybrid and super inbred varieties across three locations and years. Yield potential has been increased by 11.4% in super hybrid rice varieties compared with common and super inbred varieties. The higher yield of super hybrid varieties was attributed to improvement in panicle size. Panicles per m2 had the highest positive contribution to grain yield with the exception under yield level of 10.0 to 12.0 t ha-1, and was positively related to grain yield in farmer’s field at all of the high-, moderate-, and low-yielding regions. | 2 | Comparisons of Yield and Growth Behaviors of Hybrid Rice Under Different Nitrogen Management Methods in Tropical and Subtropical Environments显示文摘To compare the grain yield and growth behaviors of hybrid rice, field experiments were conducted in a subtropical environment in Changsha, Hunan Province, China, and in two tropical environments in Gazipur and Habiganj in Bangladesh during 2009 to 2011. Three hybrid rice cultivars were grown under three nitrogen (N) management treatments in each experiment. The results showed that grain yield was significantly affected by locations, N treatments and their interaction but not by cultivars. Changsha produced 8-58% higher grain yields than Bangladesh locations. Sink size (spikelet number per unit land area) was responsible for these yield differences. Larger panicle size (spikelet number per panicle) contributed to greater sink size in Changsha. Aboveground total biomass was greater in Changsha than in Bangladesh locations, whereas harvest index was higher in Bangladesh locations than in Changsha. Crop growth rate (CGR) was greater at Changsha than Bangladesh locations during vegetative phase, while the difference was relatively small and not consistent during the later growth phases. Higher leaf area index and leaf area duration were partly responsible for the greater CGR in Changsha. Real-time N management (RTNM) produced lower grain yields than fixed-time N management in more than half of the experiments. | 3 | MicroRNA and mRNA profiling of cerebral cortex in a transgenic mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease by RNA sequencing显示文摘In a previous study,we found that long non-coding genes in Alzheimer’s disease(AD)are a result of endogenous gene disorders caused by the recruitment of microRNA(miRNA)and mRNA,and that miR-200a-3p and other representative miRNAs can mediate cognitive impairment and thus serve as new biomarkers for AD.In this study,we investigated the abnormal expression of miRNA and mRNA and the pathogenesis of AD at the epigenetic level.To this aim,we performed RNA sequencing and an integrative analysis of the cerebral cortex of the widely used amyloid precursor protein and presenilin-1 double transgenic mouse model of AD.Overall,129 mRNAs and 68 miRNAs were aberrantly expressed.Among these,eight down-regulated miRNAs and seven up-regulated miRNAs appeared as promising noninvasive biomarkers and therapeutic targets.The main enriched signaling pathways involved mitogen-activated kinase protein,phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-protein kinase B,mechanistic target of rapamycin kinase,forkhead box O,and autophagy.An miRNA-mRNA network between dysregulated miRNAs and corresponding target genes connected with AD progression was also constructed.These miRNAs and mRNAs are potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for new treatment strategies,early diagnosis,and prevention of AD.The present results provide a novel perspective on the role of miRNAs and mRNAs in AD.This study was approved by the Experimental Animal Care and Use Committee of Institute of Medicinal Biotechnology of Beijing,China(approval No.IMB-201909-D6)on September 6,2019. | Li Zeng Hai-Lun Jiang Ghulam Md Ashraf Zhuo-Rong Li Rui Liu | 2021 | Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,10: | 6 |
| 4 | Bioengineered pseudovirus nanoparticles displaying the HA1 antigens of influenza viruses for enhanced immunogenicity显示文摘Even with implementation of current influenza vaccines,influenza still claims up to 500,000 lives worldwide annually,indicating a need for a better vaccine strategy.We have developed a technology to generate unique S_(60)-HA1 pseudovirus nanoparticles(PVNPs)that display the receptor-binding HA1 domains of influenza viruses.Each self-assembled S_(60)-HA1 PVNP consists of a T=1 icosahedral S_(60) nanoparticle that resembles the inner shell of norovirus capsid and 60 surface-displayed HA1 antigens that are excellent vaccine targets.Soluble S_(60)-HA1 PVNPs presenting HA1 antigens of H7N9 influenza virus subtypes have been produced efficiently in large amount.Their three-dimensional(3D)structures have been solved by cryogenic electron microscopy.The PVNP-displayed HA1 antigens react with HA-specific antibody,and retain authentic sialic acid binding specificity and hemagglutinate human erythrocytes.The PVNPs are highly immunogenic,eliciting high titers of HA1-specific antibodies in mice and the mouse sera strongly inhibited hemagglutinations of homologous and heterologous influenza virus HA proteins.Therefore,the S_(60)-HA1 PVNPs may provide useful reagents to study influenza viruses and offer a potential new vaccine tactic to fight the deadly influenza disease. | Ming Xia Md Rejaul Hoq Pengwei Huang Wen Jiang Xi Jiang Ming Tan | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,5: | 2 |
| 5 | Angioplasty with Stent for Symptomatic Intracranial Stenosis Trial I (ASSIT-Ⅰ) Study显示文摘Background and Purpose Annual stroke rates might be as high as 10% to 24% in patients with symptomatic intracranial stenosis on best medical therapy. Angioplasty with stent for symptomatic intracranial stenosis trial Ⅰ (ASSIST-Ⅰ) was a prospective and nonrandomized feasibility and safety study to evaluate the APOLLO Stent System for treatment of symptomatic intracranial artery stenosis, and prepare for ASSIST Ⅱ-a prospective, multicenter,and randomized controlled-study. The APOLLO stent delivery system (MicroPort Medical [Shanghai] Limited Co.), specifically designed for intracranial artery stenosis, consists of a stent and a balloon and a rapid-exchange delivery catheter. The stent is made of 316L stainless steel, with diameters of 2.0 to 4.0 mm and length of 8 mm or 13 mm. Only two links connect the rings of 1 mm in length, rendering the stent a good flexibility enough to navigate tortuous intracranial vessels. The nominated pressure of the stent is designed at 6 atm to reduce the risk of occlusion to side branches and perforators and rupture and dissection of target vessel. The crimping technique is applied in this system, insuring a compact ability of stent so wonderful that the struts of stent do not lift when the stent negotiates a turn, which lessen the likelihood of vessel wall injury and stent migrating. Materials and methods Thirty-four patients with 35 symptomatic intracranial stenoses of ≥50%, which resulted in transient ischemic attacks (TIAs [23 lesions /22 patients]) and minor stroke (7 lesions/7 patents), and both TIAs and stroke (5 lesions/ 5 patients), and with 1 asymptomatic severe stenosis, were enrolled in ASSIST-Ⅰ from December 10, 2003 to August 12, 2004. Their age was 54.3 years±SD of 9.49, three patients were male, and all had ≥1 risk factors of atherosclerosis. Patients received the evaluation of National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), modified Rankin scale (mRS )and Barthel idex (BI) before and one-, three-, six-, and 12-month after the procedure. Results Stent success, defined as stent-assisted angioplasty successfully, resulting in ≤20% residual stenosis, was obtained in 35 lesions ( 97.2%, 35/36) and 33 patients ( 97.1%, 33/34). The stenosis rate of pre- and post -procedure was 80.5%± SD of 12.65 and 7.4%±SD 15.74, respectively. The Procedure-related complications were 8.3% for lesion (3/36) and 8.8% for patient (3/34), included 1 acute thrombosis, which obtained complete patency by means of intrathrombus thombolysis at once without sequelae, and 2 ischemic perforator strokes (1 irreversible stroke and 1 reversible). The disable stroke, defined as one that led to mRS score of ≥2, 30 days after the stroke, occurred in one patient ( 2.9%, 1/34; mRS of 2). Procedure success, defined as stent success without disable stroke or death at discharge by means of the endovascular therapy, was achieved in 33 lesions ( 91.7%, 33/36) and in 31 patients ( 91.2%, 31/34). Treatment success, defined as stent success without disable stroke and death at the 30th day, by means of the endovascular and medical therapy, was obtained in 34 lesions ( 94.4%, 34/36) and 32 patients ( 94.1%, 32/34). Clinical Follow-up, median 170 days (ranged from 30 days to 273 days; ≥1 month, n=34; ≥3 months, n=23; ≥6 months, n=13), was performed in 34 patients. There were no ischemic neurological events and death occurred. Cumulated disable stroke occurred in 1 patient ( 2.9%, 1/34). | 11 | Spatiotemporal variation and mechanisms of temperature inversion in the Bay of Bengal and the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean显示文摘In the northern Bay of Bengal,the existence of intense temperature inversion during winter is a widely accepted phenomenon.However,occurrences of temperature inversion during other seasons and the spatial distribution within and adjacent to the Bay of Bengal are not well understood.In this study,a higher resolution spatiotemporal variation of temperature inversion and its mechanisms are examined with mixed layer heat and salt budget analysis utilizing long-term Argo(2004 to 2020)and RAMA(2007 to 2020)profiles data in the Bay of Bengal and eastern equatorial Indian Ocean(EEIO).Temperature inversion exists(17.5%of the total 39293 Argo and 51.6%of the 28894 RAMA profiles)throughout the year in the entire study area.It shows strong seasonal variation,with the highest occurrences in winter and the lowest in spring.Besides winter inversion in the northern Bay of Bengal,two other regions with frequent temperature inversion are identified in this study for the first time:the northeastern part of the Bay of Bengal and the eastern part of the EEIO during summer and autumn.Driving processes of temperature inversion for different subregions are revealed in the current study.Penetration of heat(mean~25 W/m;)below the haline-stratified shallow mixed layer leads to a relatively warmer subsurface layer along with the simultaneous cooling tendency in mixed layer,which controls more occurrence of temperature inversion in the northern Bay of Bengal throughout the year.Comparatively lower cooling tendency due to net surface heat loss and higher mixed layer salinity leaves the southern part of the bay less supportive to the formation of temperature inversion than the northern bay.In the EEIO,slightly cooling tendency in the mixed layer along with the subduction of warm-salty Arabian Sea water beneath the cold-fresher Bay of Bengal water,and downwelling of thermocline creates a favorable environment for forming temperature inversion mainly during summer and autumn.Deeper isothermal layer depth,and thicker barrier layer thickness intensify the temperature inversion both in the Bay of Bengal and EEIO. | K M Azam Chowdhury Wensheng Jiang Guimei Liu Md Kawser Ahmed Shaila Akhter | 2022 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2022,41,4: | 1 |
