1Herbal Traditional Chinese Medicine and suspected liver injury: A prospective study显示文摘AIM To analyze liver tests before and following treatment with herbal Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) in order to evaluate the frequency of newly detected liver injury.METHODS Patients with normal values of alanine aminotransferase(ALT) as a diagnostic marker for ruling out pre-existing liver disease were enrolled in a prospective study of a safety program carried out at the First German Hospital of TCM from 1994 to 2015. All patients received herbal products, and their ALT values were reassessed 1-3 d prior to discharge. To verify or exclude causality for suspected TCM herbs, the Roussel Uclaf Causality Assessment Method(RUCAM) was used.RESULTS This report presents for the first time liver injury data derived from a prospective, hospital-based and largescale study of 21470 patients who had no liver disease prior to treatment with herbal TCM. Among these, ALT ranged from 1 × to < 5 × upper limit normal(ULN) in 844 patients(3.93%) and suggested mild or moderate liver adaptive abnormalities. However, 26 patients(0.12%) experienced higher ALT values of ≥ 5 × ULN(300.0 ± 172.9 U/L, mean ± SD). Causality for TCM herbs was RUCAM-based probable in 8/26 patients, possible in 16/26, and excluded in 2/26 cases. Bupleuri radix and Scutellariae radix were the two TCM herbs most commonly implicated. 2Expression of transforming growth factor-α and hepatitis B surface antigen in human hepatocellular carcinoma tissues and its significance显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the expression of transforming growthfactor-alpha (TGF-α) and hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues and its significance.METHODS:Seventy specimens of HCC tissues were detected by immunohistochemical method. Five specimens of normal human liver tissues were used as control.RESULTS: The TGF-o~ positive expression rates in HCC and its surrounding tissues were 74.3%(52/70) and 88.1%(52/59), respectively. TGF-α positive granules were mainly in the cytoplasm and fewer existed on the karyotheca. The TGF-α positive expressing rate in well differentiated HCC was significantly higher than that in moderately and poorly differentiated HCC (P<0.05).The TGF-α positive expression also was observed in intrahepatic bile ducts (part of those were hyperplastic ducts).The HBsAg positive expression rates in HCC and its surrounding tissues were 21.4%(15/70) and 79.7%(47/59), respectively.HBsAg positive granules were in the cytoplasm, inclusion and on the karyotheca.There was a prominent positive correlation between TGF-α and HBsAg expression in HCC surrounding tissues (P<0.05,γ=0.34). TGF-α was usually existed with HBsAg in regenerated and/or dysplastic liver cells.In the five normal liver tissues, TGF-α and HBsAg were not detectable in hepatocytes and bile ducts.CONCLUSION:Hepatitis B virus infection is dosely related with hepatocarcinogenesis.The overexpression of TGF-α in the liver seems to be associated with the regeneration of hepatocytes injured by HBsAg.The continued expression of TGF-α might lead to dysplasia of liver cells and development of HCC. 3Taurine inhibits ischemia/reperfusion-induced compartment syndrome in rabbits显示文摘Aim: To investigate effects of taurine on ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)-induced compartment syndrome in rabbit hind limbs. Methods: Rabbits underwent femoral artery occlusion after ligation of branches from terminal aorta to femoral artery. After a 7-h ischemia, reperfusion was established with the use of heparinized polyethylene shunts. Rabbits received taurine (1 g/kg) or normal saline (control) by iv infusion 10 min before shunt placement. During reperfusion, anterior compartment pressure (ACP) was monitored continuously in the left lower extremity. Gastrocnemius muscle triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) level, taurine content and myeloperoxidase activity were assayed. Oxidative stress was induced in the in vitro gastrocnemius muscle slices by free radical generating systems (FRGS), and the malondialdehyde content was measured in presence or absence of taurine. Results: After 7 h of ischemia, none of the parameters that we measured were different from those before ischemia, except that TTC reduction decreased by 80%. In the control group, after 2 h of reperfusion, ACP increased 4.5-fold, and gastrocnemius muscle taurine content was reduced by 33%. In taurine-treated animals, at 2 h reperfusion, the mean arterial blood pressure and heart rate were increased, by 6% and 10%. ACP decreased by 39%, muscle edema decreased by 16%, TTC reduction increased by 150%, and lactate dehydrogenase decreased by 36% compared to control group. Plasma and muscle taurine content increased by 70% and 88%, respectively. In the taurine-treated group, at 2 h reperfusion, plasma malondialdehyde and conjugated diene content were decreased by 38% and 23%, respectively, and muscle malondialdehyde and conjugated diene content decreased by 22% and 30%, respectively compared to the control group. At 2 h reperfusion, myeloperoxidase activity was increased 3.5-fold in control animals. In the in vitro study, taurine decreased malondialdehyde content in muscle slices incubate dwith hypochlorous acid in a dose-dependent manner, but there was no change when incubated with hydrogen peroxide and xanthine oxidase. 9The Effect of Haplotype-Block Definitions on Inference of Haplotype-Block Structure and htSNPs Selection显示文摘It has been recently suggested that the human genome is organized as a series of haplotype blocks, and efforts to create a genome-wide haplotype map are already underway. Several computational algorithms have been proposed to partition the genome. However, little is known about their behaviors in relation to the haplotype-block partitioning and haplotypetagging SNPs selection. Here, we present a systematic comparison of three classes of haplotype-block partition definitions, a diversity-based method, a linkage-disequilibrium (LD)-based method, and a recombination-based method.The data used were derived from a coalescent simulation under both a uniform recombination model and one that assumes recombination hotspots. There were considerable differences in haplotype information loss in the measure of entropy when the partition methods were compared under different population-genetics scenarios. Under both recombination models, the results from the LD-based definition and the recombination-based definition were more similar to each other than were the results from the diversity-based definition. 10Activities of autonomic neurotransmitters in meibomian gland tissues are associated with menopausal dry eye显示文摘The secretory activities of meibomian glands are regulated by the autonomic nervous system. The change in density and activity of autonomic nerves in meibomian glands during menopause play an important role in the pathogenesis of dry eye. In view of this, we established a dry eye rat model by removing the bilateral ovaries. We used neuropeptide Y and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide as markers of autonomic neurotransmitters. Our results showed that the concentration of estradiol in serum significantly decreased, the density of neuropeptide Y immunoreactivity in nerve fibers significantly increased, the density of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide immunoreactivity in nerve fibers significantly decreased, and the ratio of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide/neuropeptide Y positive staining significantly decreased. 13Experimental study on the partial preheating combustion characteristic of Yankuang coal sludge显示文摘Coal sludge is a seriously polluted solid waste,and the rational utilization of its resources has long being an undoubtedly important research topic.This paper mainly studies the coal sludge partial preheating characteristic,combustion characteristic and the process of migration and conversion of nitrogen with preheating combustion technology.The experimental results indicate that most of the elements in the coal sludge are released during preheating,and the ratio of the fuel-N converted to the N_(2),NH_(3) and HCN are 75.5%,6.74%and 0.64%,respectively.Compared with the coal sludge,the BET surface area and cumulative pore area of preheated char are increased.The surface of preheated char is loose and porous with many fine particles,while raw coal is dense with larger particles.Meantime,the quantity of carbon defect structure,the active sites and the reactivity of preheated char are all increased.In the whole process,the NO_(x) emission is about 156 mg/m3(@6%O2),the ratio of fuel-N converted to NO_(x) was 2.98%,and the combustion efficiency is 96.5%.This experiment results will play a vital role in efficient and clean utilization of coal sludge.Yi Zhang Jianguo Zhu Qinggang Lyu Jingzhang Liu Jiahang Zhang 2021Waste Disposal and Sustainable Energy2021,3,3:1

16Primary targeting of recombinant Fv-immunotoxin hscFv_(25)-mTNFα against hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM: To obtain human recombinant Fv-immunotoxin hscFv25-mTNFα (mutant human TNFαfused to human scFv25) against hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).METHODS: Two relevant sites of enzymatic digestion were added to mTNFα by PCR. mTNFα was linked to the 3' end of hscFv25 in pGEX4T-1 vector. This anti-HCC recombinant Fv-immunotoxin hscFv25-mTNFα was expressed in Escherichia coliand purified from inclusions. After purified by glutathione-S-transferase affinity chromatography and thrombin digestion, it was identified by electrophoresis and Western blot. And then, the purified recombinant Fvimmunotoxin was injected into nude mice with HCC xenografts through their tail veins, mTNFα protein and PBS were used as control at the same time. After treated for two weeks, nude mice were executed. The bulk and weight of tumors were observed. The tumor tissues were stained by immunohistochemical method with TNFα antibody.RESULTS: The expression ratio of recombinant Fv-immunotoxin hscFv25-mTNFα was 12% of bacterial protein. The result of tumor restraining trials of hscFv25-mTNFα showed 2/5 complete remission and 3/5 partial remission, mTNFα restraining trials showed 5/5 partial remission. 17Effect of H_(2)O on Preheating Combustion Characteristics in O_(2)/CO_(2)and O_(2)/N_(2)Atmospheres显示文摘This study explores the effect of H_(2)O on the characteristics of the oxy-fuel combustion process preheated by a circulating fluidized bed.The preheating and combustion characteristics have been studied in O_(2)/CO_(2)/H_(2)O and O_(2)/N_(2)/H_(2)O atmospheres.It was observed that the preheating temperature decreased with adding steam.Meanwhile,the addition of steam enhanced the C-H_(2)O gasification reaction,while weakened the C-CO_(2)gasification reaction.As a result,the H2 concentration was increased,while the CO concentration was reduced.H_(2)O was conducive towards increasing the surface area and pore formation of the preheated char,though it had an insignificant effect on the particle size.Moreover,H_(2)O enhanced the preheated char activity,which was helpful for ignition and stable combustion.The NO_(x)emission was observed to increase from 68 to 79 mg/MJ and 62 to 81 mg/MJ in O_(2)/CO_(2)and O_(2)/N_(2)atmospheres,respectively,after adding steam.PAN Fei ZHU Jianguo LIU Jingzhang LIU Yuhua 2023Journal of Thermal Science2023,32,6:0
18Review on research and development of oxy-coal burner for carbon capture显示文摘In the past two decades, the oxy-fuel combustion of pulverized coal has been extensively developed, leading to the completion of several large industrial pilot oxy-fuel plants worldwide. Various types of oxy-fuel burners have been designed and tested in largescale pilot plants as key components of oxy-fuel combustion. These burners face major challenges in terms of their flame stability because of their decreasing stream momentum ratio and increasing carbon dioxide concentration. However, it offers flexibility in adjusting the oxygen concentration in each burner stream. This study aims to provide a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art knowledge on oxy-coal burner design and operation in power plants. First, the combustion characteristics under oxy-fuel conditions are briefly introduced. Subsequently, the principal requirements and fundamental parameters of the oxy-coal burners are discussed. The development process of oxy-fuel burners is also presented. Moreover, a compatible design strategy and scaling-up techniques are described for oxy-coal burners developed by the authors over the past ten years. The performances of oxy-coal burners in three large pilot oxy-fuel plants worldwide are summarized and compared. 19A sustained-release microcarrier effectively prolongs and enhances the antibacterial activity of lysozyme显示文摘Bacterial infections have become a great threat to public health in recent years.A primary lysozyme is a natural antimicrobial protein;however,its widespread application is limited by its instability.Here,we present a poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)hydrogel inverse opal particle(PHIOP)as a microcarrier of lysozyme to prolong and enhance the efficiency against bacteria.This PHIOP-based lysozyme(PHIOP-Lys)formulation is temperature-responsive and exhibits long-term sustained release of lysozyme for up to 16 days.It shows a potent antibacterial effect toward both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus,which is even higher than that of free lysozyme in solution at the same concentration.PHIOPs-Lys were demonstrated to effectively inhibit bacterial infections and enhance wound healing in a full-thickness skin wound rat model.This study provides a novel pathway for prolonging the enzymatic activity and antibacterial effects of lysozyme.Mei Du Jingzhang Liu Fengbang Wang Lei Bi Chunyan Ma Maoyong Song Guibin Jiang 2023Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,7:0
