1Biological process of soil improvement in civil engineering:A review显示文摘The concept of using biological process in soil improvement which is known as bio-mediated soil improvement technique has shown greater potential in geotechnical engineering applications in terms of performance and environmental sustainability.This paper presents a review on the soil microorganisms responsible for this process,and factors that affect their metabolic activities and geometric compatibility with the soil particle sizes.Two mechanisms of biomineralization,i.e.biologically controlled and biologically induced mineralization,were also discussed.Environmental and other factors that may be encountered in situ during microbially induced calcite precipitation(MICP) and their influences on the process were identified and presented.Improvements in the engineering properties of soil such as strength/stiffness and permeability as evaluated in some studies were explored.Potential applications of the process in geotechnical engineering and the challenges of field application of the process were identified.Murtala Umar Khairul Anuar Kassim Kenny Tiong Ping Chiet 2016Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2016,8,5:9
2山羊单增李斯特杆菌病的诊断与防治显示文摘赣西某养殖场山羊出现转圈运动等神经症状、单侧眼睛失明和呼吸困难,导致近20只山羊死亡。为确定病原菌并进行有效的防治,对送检的3只病死羊进行病理剖检,并采集肝脏、脾脏和脑组织进行病原菌的纯化培养、LB二次增菌选择性分离培养、革兰氏染色、生化试验和16SrRNA测序分析;为确定病原菌致病力,进行小鼠和家兔的动物回归试验;选用头孢唑啉、头孢曲松钠、青霉素、万古霉素等30种抗菌药进行病原菌的体外抑菌试验。结果显示,从两只病羊的脑组织中分离得到两株革兰氏阳性细菌,生化试验、16SrRNA序列测定、动物回归试验确认分离菌为单增李斯特杆菌,二者高度同源(100.0%),与多株李氏杆菌同源性均高达99%以上,且对小鼠和家兔均有较强的致病力。该分离菌对头孢唑啉、哌拉西林、羧苄西林、四环素、多西环素、麦迪霉素、红霉素、万古霉素和氯霉素高度敏感,但对第2、3代头孢菌素类抗生素、苯唑西林、复方新诺明等抗菌药耐药。该养殖场应参考药敏试验结果采取综合防治措施,从而保障山羊及其肉制品的食品安全。唐慕德 温宇婷 吴青青 阿依江·阿比提 伍钢 KASSIM ALI BAKAR 邓秋纯 刘犇 郑文亚 2018中国畜牧兽医2018,45,10:8
3Vitamin D receptor expression in human bone tissue and dose-dependent activation in resorbing osteoclasts显示文摘The effects of vitamin D on osteoblast mineralization are well documented. Reports of the effects of vitamin D on osteoclasts, however, are conflicting, showing both inhibition and stimulation. Finding that resorbing osteoclasts in human bone express vitamin D receptor(VDR), we examined their response to different concentrations of 25-hydroxy vitamin D_3[25(OH)D_3](100 or 500 nmol·L^(-1)) and 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D_3[1,25(OH)_2D_3](0.1 or 0.5 nmol·L^(-1)) metabolites in cell cultures. Specifically, CD14+ monocytes were cultured in charcoal-stripped serum in the presence of receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand(RANKL) and macrophage colony-stimulating factor(M-CSF). Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase(TRAP)histochemical staining assays and dentine resorption analysis were used to identify the size and number of osteoclast cells, number of nuclei per cell and resorption activity. The expression of VDR was detected in human bone tissue(ex vivo) by immunohistochemistry and in vitro cell cultures by western blotting.Quantitative reverse transcription-PCR(q RT-PCR) was used to determine the level of expression of vitamin D-related genes in response to vitamin D metabolites. VDR-related genes during osteoclastogenesis, shown by q RT-PCR, was stimulated in response to 500 nmol·L^(-1)of 25(OH)D_3and 0.1–0.5 nmol·L^(-1)of 1,25(OH)_2D_3,upregulating cytochrome P450 family 27 subfamily B member 1(CYP27B1) and cytochrome P450 family 24 subfamily A member 1(CYP24A1). Osteoclast fusion transcripts transmembrane 7 subfamily member 4(tm7sf4) and nuclear factor of activated T-cell cytoplasmic 1(nfatc1) where downregulated in response to vitamin D metabolites. Osteoclast number and resorption activity were also increased. Both 25(OH)D_3and1,25(OH)_2D_3reduced osteoclast size and number when co-treated with RANKL and M-CSF. The evidence for VDR expression in resorbing osteoclasts in vivo and low-dose effects of 1,25(OH)_2D_3on osteoclasts in vitro may therefore provide insight into the effects of clinical vitamin D treatments, further providing a counterpoint to the high-dose effects reported from in vitro experiments.Allahdad Zarei Alireza Morovat Kassim Javaid Cameron P Brown 2016Bone Research2016,4,3:5
4Contribution of public places in proliferation of dengue vectors in Penang Island,Malaysia显示文摘Objective: To determine abundance, distribution and diversity of potential breeding container habitats of the dengue vectors in public places including schools, restaurants,mosques and parks in southwest areas of Penang Island, Malaysia.Methods: Premises at restaurants, schools, parks and mosques were surveyed simultaneously and inspected visually for container habitats and production of immature mosquitoes from March 2015 to March 2016. Abundance(mean ± SE) of breeding containers between sites was compared using One-way ANOVA. Independent sample ttest was used to compare total number of Aedes albopictus(Ae. albopictus) and Aedes aegypti(Ae. aegypti) surveyed.Results: The surveyed locations yielded a total of 3 741 breeding containers and 19 537 immature mosquitoes from four areas. Concurrent artificial and natural containers produced 78.4% immature Ae. albopictus and 6.3% Ae. aegypti mosquitoes in wet season,with 14.2% Ae. albopictus and 1.1% Ae. aegypti mosquitoes in dry season. Artificial containers accounted for 98.1% of the total containers recorded, with restaurants being the most productive locations(8 012) and schools being the least productive(2 234).Conclusions: It was concluded that public places are good sources of potential container habitats of Aedes mosquitoes in Penang Island, Malaysia and Ae. albopictus has exclusively replaced the home-grown Ae. aegypti even in urban areas. 5COVID-19:A pluralistic and integrated approach for efficient management of the pandemic显示文摘The novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),which triggered the ongoing pandemic,was first discovered in China in late 2019.SARSCoV-2 is a respiratory virus responsible for coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)that often manifests as a pneumonic syndrome.In the context of the pandemic,there are mixed views on the data provided by epidemiologists and the information collected by hospital clinicians about their patients.In addition,the literature reports a large proportion of patients free of pneumonia vs a small percentage of patients with severe pneumonia among confirmed COVID-19 cases.This raises the issue of the complexity of the work required to control or contain the pandemic.We believe that an integrative and pluralistic approach will help to put the analyses into perspective and reinforce collaboration and creativity in the fight against this major scourge.This paper proposes a comprehensive and integrative approach to COVID-19 research,prevention,control,and treatment to better address the pandemic.Thus,this literature review applies a pluralistic approach to fight the pandemic.Nouhoum Bouare Daouda Kassim Minta Abdoulaye Dabo Christiane Gerard 2022World Journal of Virology2022,11,1:2
6Filamentation of Metabolic Enzymes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae显示文摘Compartmentation via filamentation has recently emerged as a novel mechanism for metabolic regulation. In order to identify filamentforming metabolic enzymes systematically, we performed a genome-wide screening of all strains available from an open reading frameGFP collection in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We discovered nine novel filament-forming proteins and also confirmed those identified previously. From the 4159 strains, we found 23 proteins, mostly metabolic enzymes, which are capable of forming filaments in vivo. In silico protein-protein interaction analysis suggests that these filament-forming proteins can be clustered into several groups, including translational initiation machinery and glucose and nitrogen metabolic pathways. Using glutamine-utilising enzymes as examples, we found that the culture conditions affect the occurrence and length of the metabolic filaments. Furthermore, we found that two CTP synthases(Ura7p and Ura8p) and two asparagine synthetases(Asn1p and Asn2p) form filaments both in the cytoplasm and in the nucleus.Live imaging analyses suggest that metabolic filaments undergo sub-diffusion.
