1Estimation and inter-comparison of dust aerosols based on MODIS, MISR and AERONET retrievals over Asian desert regions显示文摘This study presents detailed analysis of spatiotemporal variations and trend of dust optical properties i.e., Aerosol Optical Depth(AOD) and Angstrom component over Asian desert regions using thirteen years of data(i.e., 2001–2013) retrieved from Aerosol Robotic Network(AERONET), Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) and Multi-angle Imaging Spectroradiometer(MISR). These regions include Solar Village, Dunhuang and Dalangzadgad and are considered as origin of desert aerosols in Asia. Mann–Kendall trend test was used to show the trend of AOD. The relationship of AOD with weather parameters and general AOD trend over different wavelengths has also been shown. AOD's trend has been observed significant throughout the year in Solar Village, while in Dunhuang and Dalanzadgad the significant trend has been found only in peak period(March–June).Analysis show high values of AOD and low values of angstrom in Solar Village during peak period. In Chinese desert regions, high values of AOD have been found during peak period and low values in pre-peak period. 2Changes in Growth,Photosynthetic Pigments,Cell Viability,Lipid Peroxidation and Antioxidant Defense System in Two Varieties of Chickpea(Cicer arietinum L.)Subjected to Salinity Stress显示文摘Salinity is one of the most severe abiotic stresses for crop production.The present study investigates the salinityinduced modulation in growth indicators,morphology and movement of stomata,photosynthetic pigments,activity of carbonic anhydrase as well as nitrate reductase,and antioxidant systems in two varieties of chickpea(Pusa-BG5023,and Pusa-BGD72).On 20^(th) day of sowing,plants were treated with varying levels of NaCl(0,50,100,150 and 200 mM)followed by sampling on 45 days of sowing.Recorded observations on both the varieties reveal that salt stress leads to a significant decline in growth,dry biomass,leaf area,photosynthetic pigments,protein content,stomatal behavior,cell viability,activity of nitrate reductase and carbonic anhydrase with the rise in the concentration of salt.However,quantitatively these changes were less in Pusa-BG5023 as compared to Pusa-BGD72.Furthermore,salinity-induced oxidative stress enhanced malondialdehyde content,superoxide radicals,foliar proline content,and the enzymatic activities of superoxide dismutase,catalase,and peroxidase.The variety Pusa-BGD72 was found more sensitive than Pusa-BG5023 to salt stress.Out of different graded concentrations(50,100,150 and 200 mM)of sodium chloride,50 mM was least toxic,and 200 mM was most damaging.The differential behavior of these two varieties measured in terms of stomatal behavior,cell viability,photosynthetic pigments,and antioxidant defense system can be used as prospective indicators for selection of chickpea plants for salt tolerance and sensitivity.Zeenat Mushtaq Shahla Faizan Basit Gulzar Humira Mushtaq Sayyada Bushra Alisha Hussain Khalid Rehman Hakeem 2022Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2022,91,1:1
3Estimation of aerosol optical depth in relation to meteorological parameters over eastern and western routes of China Pakistan economic corridor显示文摘This study finds out seasonal and monthly variations in Aerosol Optical Depth(AOD)over eastern and western routes of China Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC)and the relationship between AOD and meteorological parameters(i.e.,temperature,rainfall and wind speed).The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)and Multi-angle Imaging Spectroradiometer(MISR)data was used from the terra satellite for the period of 2000-2016.This study aims to overtake the conventional view of the purpose of using the satellite datasets.This study takes on to the concept that validated satellite data sets rather should be used for the analysis instead of just validation specifically for our study region.Hence,after comparing MODIS AOD with MISR AOD,only MISR AOD dataset is used for further analysis.The results show a decreasing trend of AOD in summer season,a positive relationship between temperature and AOD during winter and spring seasons whereas a positive relationship between wind speed and AOD in winter and spring seasons over eastern and western routes.Periodic analysis of MODIS AOD and MISR AOD depicts May-Aug as the peak period of aerosol concentration over central Pakistan.The inter-annual analysis shows the aerosol trend remained higher during summer season however rainfall shows the washout effect.Eastern route has higher standard deviation and larger values for aerosol prevalence as compared to western route.The trajectory analysis using the HYSPLIT model suggests the bias of air mass trajectory caused deviation in the aerosol trend in the year 2014.Bushra Khalid Ayesha Khalid Sidra Muslim Ammara Habib Kishwar Khan Debora Souza Alvim Sehrish Shakoor Sonia Mustafa Sana Zaheer Momel Zoon Azmat Hayat Khan Sana Ilyas Bin Chen 2021Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,1:1
4Argemone mexicana extract alleviates gastrointestinal disorders by stimulating muscarinic receptors and blocking voltage-gated L-type calcium channels显示文摘Objective:To investigate the pharmacological potential of Argemone mexicana in treating constipation and emesis by using in vitro and in vivo models.Methods:The spasmogenic and spasmolytic effects were evaluated on isolated rabbit jejunum fragments loaded in a tissue organ bath.The response was recorded with an isotonic transducer attached with Power Lab Data Acquisition System.The laxative and antiemetic activities were assessed in BALB-c mice and poultry chicks challenged with carbamylcholine and copper sulphate stimulated emesis,respectively.Results:The total phenolic and total flavonoids contents of the extract were(267.75±5.77)mg GAE/g and(73.86±6.01)mg QE/g,respectively.Argemone mexicana extract exerted spasmogenic effect on isolated rabbit jejunum segments with an EC_(50)value of 0.016 mg/m L,which was blocked by atropine(0.3μM).Argemone mexicana extract exerted spasmolytic effect in atropine treated jejunum fragments with an EC_(50)value of 2.185 mg/mL.Furthermore,Argemone mexicana extract relaxed potassium(80 mM)-induced contractions(EC_(50):9.07 mg/mL),similar to a standard drug verapamil.The calcium channel blocker activity was confirmed by a rightward shift of concentration-response curve of calcium in the presence of Argemone mexicana extract(1-5 mg/mL)and verapamil(0.1-1μM).In addition,the extract increased the distance travelled by a charcoal in the gastrointestinal tract and exhibited antiemetic effect on copper sulphate induced emesis in chicks.Conclusions:Argemone mexicana shows cholinergic agonist and calcium channel blocker activities,as well as antiemetic effect.It may be used as a potential agent for treating gastrointestinal disorders.Rabia Iqbal Irfan Hamid Khalid Hussain Janbaz Muhammad Furqan Akhtar Ammara Saleem Ali Sharif Sohaib Peerzada Bushra Akhtar Kashif Sohail Sajid Ali 2021Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2021,11,5:0

6Effect of Cadmium Stress on the Growth,Physiology,Stress Markers,Antioxidants and Stomatal Behaviour of Two Genotypes of Chickpea(Cicer arietinum L.)显示文摘The current work was performed to know the impact of cadmium(Cd)toxicity on two different genotypes of chickpea(Cicer arietinum L.)namely Pusa-BG1053 and Pusa-BG372.Cadmium was applied in the form of cadmium chloride(CdCl_(2)),in varying levels,0,25,50,75,and 100 mg Cd kg^(-1)soil.Plant growth as well as physiological attributes were decreased with increasing concentration of Cd.Both genotypes showed the maximum and significant reduction at the maximum dose of Cd(100 mg Cd kg^(-1)soil).Results of this study proved that the genotype Pusa-BG1053 was more tolerant and showed a lower decline in growth,photosynthetic and biochemical attributes than Pusa-BG372.This later genotype showed the maximum reduction and was sensitive to Cd stress.A better activity of antioxidants protected Pusa-BG1053 from Cd toxicity;on the other hand,the activity of antioxidants was much lower in Pusa-BG372.Scanning electron microscopic studies showed differences in both genotypes.In Pusa-BG1053,stomatal quantity was higher and stomata were slightly close to the characteristic guard cells.In Pusa-BG372 stomata were lower,slightly open and with highly affected guard cells.Root cell mortality due to the harsh effects of Cd appeared to be more evident in Pusa-BG372 than Pusa-BG1053,which was visible under a confocal microscope.As a result of this study,Pusa-BG1053 was a more tolerant genotype,and exhibited a minimum reduction in terms of all studied parameters than Pusa-BG372,which was a sensitive genotype to Cd toxicity.Sayyada Bushra Shahla Faizan Zeenat Mushtaq Alisha Hussain Khalid Rehman Hakeem 2022Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2022,91,9:0
7Estimation of erosion induced nutrients loss under different land uses: A case study in Miandam Valley, Swat Pakistan显示文摘In order to design Sustainable Land Management(SLM)plans or interventions it is important to understand the land use change and subsequent impacts.The basic aim of this study was to assess the impact of land use land cover(LULC)change on soil physico-chemical properties and nutrients loss under different land use/land cover changes within Miandam watershed of Swat valley,Pakistan.The study area was divided into three major types on the basis LULC type(Dense forest,Moderate forest and Agriculture land).A total of 81 soil samples were collected from the study area(27 from each land use)through stratified random sampling and were transferred to the laboratory.The prepared soil samples were then tested for various physico-chemical properties such as pH,electrical conductivity,contents of organic matter,organic carbon,sand,silt,clay,nitrogen,phosphorus,potassium,iron,copper and zinc.Results showed that LULC significantly affected all soil parameters except electrical conductivity and potassium.For all the nutrients assessed,the enrichment ratio was greater than 1 which showed that the most fertile layer of the soil in the cropped areas was transported through soil erosion.In this study,time-series satellite images were used to determine the spatiotemporal changes in the LULC of Miandam valley of Swat,Pakistan,and the possible effect of LULC on soil properties was reported.The information generated on the soil properties as indicators of soil health could be used to inform the stakeholders about the effect of LULC change in the study area.Multi-temporal image acquired by Landsat sensors for the year 2018 was used for quantifying changes in the study area.The Landsat images for the year 2018 were classified into six land cover/land use classes.The increase in agricultural activities caused an increase in the land farming areas which led to an increase in the rate of deforestation in the valley.Thus,the present study results reveal that the use of the soil for agriculture instead of keeping them naturally or in other words changes in the land use land cover affects the soil physico-chemical properties and the overall nutrients availability.Nowsher Yousaf Bushra Khan Dennis C.Flanagan Ishaq Ahmad Mian Javaid Iqbal Irfan Rashid Salma Khalid Nasreen Ghaffar Sadaf Manzoor Muhammad Bilal 2021International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2021,14,2:0
