Genome-wide identification of imprinted genes in pigs and their different imprinting status compared with other mammals显示文摘DEAR EDITOR,Genomic imprinting often results in parent-of-origin specific differential expression of maternally and paternally inherited alleles and plays an essential role in mammalian development and growth.Mammalian genomic imprinting has primarily been studied in mice and humans, with only limited information available for pigs.To systematically characterize this phenomenon and evaluate imprinting status between different species,we investigated imprinted genes on a genome-wide scale in pig brain tissues. | Yin-Qiao Wu Heng Zhao Ying-Ju Li Saber Khederzadeh Hong-Jiang Wei Zhong-Yin Zhou Ya-Ping Zhang | 2020 | Zoological Research2020,41,6: | 2

Integrating Genomic and Transcriptomic Data to Reveal Genetic Mechanisms Underlying Piao Chicken Rumpless Trait显示文摘Piao chicken,a rare Chinese native poultry breed, lacks primary tail structures, such as pygostyle, caudal vertebra, uropygial gland, and tail feathers. So far,the molecular mechanisms underlying tail absence in this breed remain unclear. In this study,we comprehensively employed comparative transcriptomic and genomic analyses to unravel potential genetic underpinnings of rumplessness in Piao chicken. Our results reveal many biological factors involved in tail development and several genomic regions under strong positive selection in this breed. These regions contain candidate genes associated with rumplessness, including Irx4,Il18,Hspb2,and Cryab.Retrieval of quantitative trait loci(QTL)and gene functions implies that rumplessness might be consciously or unconsciously selected along with the high-yield traits in Piao chicken. We hypothesize that strong selection pressures on regulatory elements might lead to changes in gene activity in mesenchymal stem cells of the tail bud.The ectopic activity could eventually result in tail truncation by impeding differentiation and proliferation of the stem cells. Our study provides fundamental insights into early initiation and genetic basis of the rumpless phenotype in Piao chicken. | Yun-Mei Wang Saber Khederzadeh Shi-Rong Li Newton Otieno Otecko David M.Irwin Mukesh Thakur Xiao-Die Ren Ming-Shan Wang Dong-Dong Wu Ya-Ping Zhang | 2021 | Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics2021,19,5: | 1

Deciphering the puzzles of dog domestication显示文摘The domestic dog,as a highly successful domestication model,is well known as a favored human companion.Exploring its domestication history should provide great insight into our understanding of the prehistoric development of human culture and productivity.Furthermore, investigation on the mechanisms underpinning the morphological and behavioral traits associated with canid domestication syndrome is of significance not only for scientific study but also for human medical research.Current development of a multidisciplinary canine genome database, which includes enormous omics data, has substantially improved our understanding of the genetic makeup of dogs. Here,we reviewed recent advances associated with the original history and genetic basis underlying environmental adaptations and phenotypic diversities in domestic dogs, which should provide perspectives on improving the communicative relationship between dogs and humans. | Zhe Zhang Saber Khederzadeh Yan Li | 2020 | Zoological Research2020,41,2: | 1
Adaptive concentric power swing blocker显示文摘The main purpose of power swing blocking is to distinguish faults from power swings. However, the faults occur during a power swing should be detected and cleared promptly. This paper proposes an adaptive concentric power swing blocker(PSB)to overcome incapability of traditional concentric PSB in detecting symmetrical fault during power swing.Based on proposed method, two pairs of concentric characteristics are anticipated which the first one is placed in a stationary position(outer of zone3)but the position of the second pair is adjustable. In order to find the position of the second pair of characteristic,Static Phasor Estimation Error(SPEE)of current signal is utilized in this paper. The proposed method detects the abrupt change in SPEE and puts the second pair of characteristic in location of impedance trajectory correspondingly.Second concentric characteristic records travelling time of impedance trajectory between outer and inner zones and compares to threshold value to detect symmetrical fault during power swing. If recorded time is lower than threshold,three-phase fault is detected during power swing.Intensive studies have been performed and the merit of the method is demonstrated by some test signals simulations. | Jalal Khodaparast Mojtaba Khederzadeh | 2016 | Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems2016,1,1: | 0
Unveiling the functional and evolutionary landscape of RNA editing in chicken using genomics and transcriptomics显示文摘The evolutionary and functional features of RNA editing are well studied in mammals, cephalopods, and insects, but not in birds. Here,we integrated transcriptomic and whole-genomic analyses to exhaustively characterize the expansive repertoire of adenosine-to-inosine(A-to-I)RNA editing sites(RESs)in the chicken. In addition,we investigated the evolutionary status of the chicken editome as a potential mechanism of domestication. We detected the lowest editing level in the liver of chickens, compared to muscles in humans, and found higher editing activity and specificity in the brain than in non-neural tissues, consistent with the brain’s functional complexity. To a certain extent, specific editing activity may account for the specific functions of tissues. Our results also revealed that sequences critical to RES secondary structures remained conserved within avian evolution.Furthermore, the RNA editome was shaped by purifying selection during chicken domestication and most RESs may have served as a selection pool for a few functional RESs involved in chicken domestication, including evolution of nervous and immune systems.Regulation of RNA editing in chickens by adenosine deaminase acting on RNA(ADAR)enzymes may be affected by non-ADAR factors whose expression levels changed widely after ADAR knockdown.Collectively,we provide comprehensive lists of candidate RESs and non-ADAR-editing regulators in the chicken, thus contributing to our current understanding of the functions and evolution of RNA editing in animals. | Yun-Mei Wang Ling-Qun Ye Ming-Shan Wang Jin-Jin Zhang Saber Khederzadeh David M Irwin Xiao-Die Ren Ya-Ping Zhang Dong-Dong Wu | 2022 | Zoological Research2022,43,6: | 0
Least square and Kalman based methods for dynamic phasor estimation:a review显示文摘The characterization of sinusoidal signals with time varying amplitude and phase is useful and applicable for many fields. Therefore several algorithms have been suggested to estimate main aspects of these signals.Within no standard approach to test the properties of these algorithms,it seems to be helpful to discuss a large class of algorithms according to their properties. In this paper, six methods of estimating dynamic phasor have been reviewed and discussed which three of them are based on least square and others are based on Kalman filter.Taylor expansion is used as a first step and continued with least square or Kalman filter in accordance with the proposal observer of each method. The theoretical processes of these methods are briefly clarified. The characterizations have been made by some tests in time and frequency domains. The tests include amplitude step, phase step, frequency step, frequency response, total vector error, transient monitor, noise, sample number, computation time, harmonic and DC offset which build a framework to compare the different methods. | Jalal Khodaparast Mojtaba Khederzadeh | 2017 | Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems2017,2,1: | 0
