1Effects of dietary protein/energy ratio on growth performance,carcass trait,meat quality,and plasma metabolites in pigs of different genotypes显示文摘Background:The protein/energy ratio is important for the production performance and utilization of available feed resources by animals.Increased protein consumption by mammals leads to elevated feed costs and increased nitrogen release into the environment.This study aimed to evaluate the effects of dietary protein/energy ratio on the growth performance,carcass traits,meat quality,and plasma metabolites of pigs of different genotypes.Methods:Bama mini-pigs and Landrace pigs were randomly assigned to two dietary treatment groups(Chinese conventional diet with low protein/energy ratio or National Research Council diet with high protein/energy ratio;n = 24 per treatment) in a 2x2 factorial arrangement.Blood and muscle samples were collected at the end of the nursery,growing,and finishing phases.Results:We observed significant interactions(P< 0.05) between breed and diet for total fat percentage,intramuscular fat(IMF) content,protein content in biceps femoris(BF) muscle,and plasma urea nitrogen(UN) concentration in the nursery phase;for average daily gain(ADG),average daily feed intake(ADFI),dry matter,IMF content in psoas major(PM) muscle,and plasma total protein and albumin concentrations in the growing phase;and for drip loss and plasma UN concentration in the finishing phase.Breed influenced(P < 0.05) growth performance,carcass traits,and meat quality,but not plasma metabolites.Throughout the trial,Landrace pigs showed significantly higher(P < 0.05) ADG,ADFI,dressing percentage,lean mass rate,and loin-eye area than did Bama mini-pigs,but significantly lower(P< 0.05)feed/gain ratio,fat percentage,backfat thickness,and IMF content.Dietary protein/energy ratio influenced the pH value,chemical composition of BF and PM muscles,and plasma activities of glutamic-pyruvic transaminase and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase,and plasma concentration of UN.Conclusions:Compared with Landrace pigs,Bama mini-pigs showed slower growth and lower carcass performance,but had better meat quality.Moreover,unlike Landrace pigs,the dietary protein/energy ratio did not affect the growth performance of Bama mini-pigs.These results suggest that,in swine production,low dietary protein/energy ratio may be useful for reducing feed costs and minimizing the adverse effects of ammonia release into the environment.Yingying Liu Xiangfeng Kong Guoli Jiang Bi'e Tan Jinping Deng Xiaojian Yang Fengna Li Xia Xiong Yulong Yin 2015Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2015,6,4:37
2High-resolution microendoscopy for esophageal cancer screening in China: A cost-effectiveness analysis显示文摘AIM:To study the cost-effectiveness of high-resolution microendoscopy(HRME)in an esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)screening program in China.METHODS:A decision analytic Markov model of ESCC was developed.Separate model analyses were conducted for cohorts consisting of an averagerisk population or a high-risk population in China.Hypothetical 50-year-old individuals were followed until age 80 or death.We compared three different strategies for both cohorts:(1)no screening;(2)standard endoscopic screening with Lugol’s iodine staining;and(3)endoscopic screening with Lugol’s iodine staining and an HRME.Model parameters were estimated from the literature as well as from GLOBOCAN,the Cancer Incidence and Mortality Worldwide cancer database.Health states in the model included non-neoplasia,mild dysplasia,moderate dysplasia,high-grade dysplasia,intramucosal carcinoma,operable cancer,inoperable cancer,and death.Separate ESCC incidence transition rates were generated for the average-risk and high-risk populations.Costs in Chinese currency were converted to international dollars(I$)and were adjusted to 2012dollars using the Consumer Price Index.RESULTS:The main outcome measurements for this study were quality-adjusted life years(QALYs)and incremental cost-effectiveness ratio(ICER).For the average-risk population,the HRME screening strategy produced 0.043 more QALYs than the no screening strategy at an additional cost of I$646,resulting in an ICER of I$11808 per QALY gained.Standard endoscopic screening was weakly dominated.Among the high-risk population,when the HRME screening strategy was compared with the standard screening strategy,the ICER was I$8173 per QALY.For both the high-risk and average-risk screening populations,the HRME screening strategy appeared to be the most cost-effective strategy,producing ICERs below the willingness-topay threshold,I$23500 per QALY.One-way sensitivity analysis showed that,for the average-risk population,higher specificity of Lugol’s iodine(>40%)and lower specificity of HRME(<70%)could make Lugol’s iodine screening cost-effective.For the high-risk population,the results of the model were not substantially affected by varying the follow-up rate after Lugol’s iodine screening,Lugol’s iodine test characteristics(sensitivity and specificity),or HRME specificity.CONCLUSION:The incorporation of HRME into an ESCC screening program could be cost-effective in China.Larger studies of HRME performance are needed to confirm these findings.Chin Hur Sung Eun Choi Chung Yin Kong Gui-Qi Wang Hong Xu Alexandros D Polydorides Li-Yan Xue Katherine E Perzan Angela C Tramontano Rebecca R Richards-Kortum Sharmila Anandasabapathy 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,18:8
3Synthesis and biological evaluation of 8-substituted and deglucuronidated scutellarin and baicalin analogues as antioxidant responsive element activators显示文摘Flavonoids are important bioactive dietary compounds, which are proved to be antioxidant responsive element (ARE) activators to defend against electrophilic toxicants and oxidative stress. The activators induce ARE gene transcription through Nrf2 factor, a major transcriptional stimulator of cytoprotective genes, relieved from a Keap1 complex. In this report, based on the structures of two flavonoids, scutellarin and baicalin, which are extracted from two common Chinese plants Dengzhanhua (Erigeron breviscapus (vant) Hand-Mazz) and Huangqin (Scutellaria baicalensis Georigi), respectively, we synthesized several 8-substituted and deglucuronidated analogues and identified the ARE activation effects of these flavonoids. We found that the Baicalin, deglucurnonidated Baicalin and diaza cyclopenta derivative were more active. Their dose-dependent upregulation activities of ARE and NQO1 and induction effects of Nrf2 were testified. 4The Value of Subjective Visual Vertical in Diagnosis of Vestibular Migraine显示文摘Objective To study the value of the subjective visual vertical(SVV)in the diagnosis of vestibular migraine(VM).Methods This study recruited 128 VM patients and 64 age-matched normal subjects.We detected the SVV during the interval between attacks in both groups,in sitting upright,and the head tilted at 45°to the left or right.We then examined the correlation between the SVV results with the vestibular evoked myogenic potential(VEMP)and canal paresis(CP).Results It was found there was a significant difference in SVV at the upright position between VM patients and normal controls(P=0.006)and no significant difference was found at the tilts of 45°to the left or right between the two groups.The SVV results at the upright position were significantly correlated with cervical VEMP(P=0.042)whereas not significantly correlated with CP and VEMP.There existed no significant difference in the conformity to the Müller effect(M effect)between the two groups.ROC analysis exhibited that the sensitivity,specificity of SVVs at the upright were 67.200%and 62.500%respectively.The diagnostic value of SVV at the upright position was significantly higher than that at tilts of 45°to the left and right(P=0.006).Nonetheless the diagnostic accuracy was relatively low.Conclusion Abnormality in SVV possibly stems from the lasting functional disorder of cerebellar or high-level cortical centers in VM patients or is linked to the vestibular compensation.The SVV is of low diagnostic value for VM and the value of SVV in VM warrants further study.Fei LI Jin XU Gen-ru LI Rui GAO Chen-yong SHANG E TIAN Wei-jia KONG Jian-hua ZHUANG Su-lin ZHANG 2021Current Medical Science2021,41,4:3
5Light Cupula:To Be Or Not to Be?显示文摘Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(BPPV)represents the most common form of positional vertigo.It is caused by dislodged otoconia that freely float in the semicircular canals(canalolithiasis)or attach to the cupula(cupulolithiasis).A cupulolithiasis-type(or a heavy cupula-type)of BPPV implicating the lateral semicircular canal(LSCC)exhibits persistent ageotropic direction-changing positional nystagmus(DCPN)in a head-roll test.However,in some cases,unlike any type of BPPV,persistent geotropic DCPN cannot be explained by any mechanisms of BPPV,and don’t fit the current classifications.Recently,the notion of light cupula has been introduced to refer to the persistent geotropic DCPN.In this study,we looked at the clinical features of light cuplula and discussed the possible mechanisms and therapeutic strategies of the condition.The notion of light cupula is a helpful addition to the theory of peripheral positional vertigo and nystagmus.Su-lin ZHANG E TIAN Wen-chao XU Yu-ting ZHU Wei-jia KONG 2020Current Medical Science2020,40,3:3
