| 1 | Thin films as an emerging platform for drug delivery显示文摘Pharmaceutical scientists throughout the world are trying to explore thin films as a novel drug delivery tool. Thin films have been identified as an alternative approach to conventional dosage forms. The thin films are considered to be convenient to swallow, selfadministrable, and fast dissolving dosage form, all of which make it as a versatile platform for drug delivery. This delivery system has been used for both systemic and local action via several routes such as oral, buccal, sublingual, ocular, and transdermal routes. The design of efficient thin films requires a comprehensive knowledge of the pharmacological and pharmaceutical properties of drugs and polymers along with an appropriate selection of manufacturing processes. Therefore, the aim of this review is to provide an overview of the critical factors affecting the formulation of thin films, including the physico-chemical properties of polymers and drugs, anatomical and physiological constraints, as well as the characterization methods and quality specifications to circumvent the difficulties associated with formulation design. | 2 | Enhanced intestinal lymphatic absorption of saquinavir through supersaturated self-microemulsifying drug delivery systems显示文摘The therapeutic potential of saquinavir, a specific inhibitor of human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)-1 and HIV-2 protease enzymes, has been largely limited because of a low solubility and consequnt low bioavailability. Thus, we aimed to design a supersaturated selfmicroemulsifying drug delivery system(S-SMEDDS) that can maintain a high concentration of saquinavir in gastro-intestinal fluid thorugh inhibiting the drug precipitation to enhance the lymphatic transport of saquinavir and to increase the bioavailability of saquinavir considerably. Solubilizing capacity of different oils, surfactants, and cosurfactants for saquinavir was evaluated to select optimal ingredients for preparation of SMEDDS.Through the construction of pseudo-ternary phase diagram, SMEDDS formulations were established. A polymer as a precipitation inhibitor was selected based on its viscosity and drug precipitation inhibiting capacity. The S-SMEDDS and SMEDDS designed were administered at an equal dose to rats. At predetermined time points, levels of saquinavir in lymph collected from the rats were assessed. SMEDDS prepared presented a proper selfmicroemulsification efficiency and dispersion stability. The S-SMEDDS fabricated using the SMEDDS and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose 2910 as a precipitation inhibitor exhibited a signficantly enhanced solubilizing capacity for saquinavir. The drug concentration in a simulated intestinal fluid evaluated with the S-SMEDDS was also maintained at higher levels for prolonged time than that examined with the SMEDDS. | 3 | Non-Hermitian chiral degeneracy of gated graphene metasurfaces显示文摘Non-Hermitian degeneracies,also known as exceptional points(EPs),have been the focus of much attention due to their singular eigenvalue surface structure.Nevertheless,as pertaining to a non-Hermitian metasurface platform,the reduction of an eigenspace dimensionality at the EP has been investigated mostly in a passive repetitive manner.Here,we propose an electrical and spectral way of resolving chiral EPs and clarifying the consequences of chiral mode collapsing of a non-Hermitian gated graphene metasurface.More specifically,the measured non-Hermitian Jones matrix in parameter space enables the quantification of nonorthogonality of polarisation eigenstates and half-integer topological charges associated with a chiral EP.Interestingly,the output polarisation state can be made orthogonal to the coalesced polarisation eigenstate of the metasurface,revealing the missing dimension at the chiral EP.In addition,the maximal nonorthogonality at the chiral EP leads to a blocking of one of the cross-polarised transmission pathways and,consequently,the observation of enhanced asymmetric polarisation conversion.We anticipate that electrically controllable non-Hermitian metasurface platforms can serve as an interesting framework for the investigation of rich non-Hermitian polarisation dynamics around chiral EPs. | Soojeong Baek Sang Hyun Park Donghak Oh Kanghee Lee Sangha Lee Hosub Lim Taewoo Ha Hyun Sung Park Shuang Zhang Lan Yang Bumki Min Teun-Teun Kim | 2023 | Light(Science & Applications)2023,12,5: | 1 |
