2Recycling of mixed cathode lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles: Current status and future outlook显示文摘Worldwide trends in mobile electrification,largely driven by the popularity of electric vehicles(EVs)will skyrocket demands for lithium-ion battery(LIB)production.As such,up to four million metric tons of LIB waste from EV battery packs could be generated from 2015 to 2040.LIB recycling directly addresses concerns over longterm economic strains due to the uneven geographic distribution of resources(especially for Co and Li)and environmental issues associated with both landfilling and raw material extraction.However,LIB recycling infrastructure has not been widely adopted,and current facilities are mostly focused on Co recovery for economic gains.This incentive will decline due to shifting market trends from LiCoO2 toward cobalt-deficient and mixed-metal cathodes(eg,LiNi1/3Mn1/3Co1/3O2).Thus,this review covers recycling strategies to recover metals in mixed-metal LIB cathodes and comingled scrap comprising different chemistries.As such,hydrometallurgical processes can meet this criterion,while also requiring a low environmental footprint and energy consumption compared to pyrometallurgy.Following pretreatment to separate the cathode from other battery components,the active material is dissolved entirely by reductive acid leaching.A complex leachate is generated,comprising cathode metals(Li+,Ni2+,Mn2+,and Co2+)and impurities(Fe3+,Al3+,and Cu2+)from the current collectors and battery casing,which can be separated and purified using a series of selective precipitation and/or solvent extraction steps.Alternatively,the cathode can be resynthesized directly from the leachate.Tyler Or Storm WDGourley Karthikeyan Kaliyappan Aiping Yu Zhongwei Chen 2020Carbon Energy2020,2,1:16

4Science Letters:Alterations in seedling vigour and antioxidant enzyme activities in Catharanthus roseus under seed priming with native diazotrophs显示文摘An experiment was conducted on Catharanthus roseus to study the effect of seed treatments with native diazotrophs on its seedling growth and antioxidant enzyme activities. The treatments had significant influence on various seedling parameters. There is no significant influence on dry matter production with the diazotrophs, Azospirillum and Azotobacter. However, the vital seedling parameters such as germination percentage and vigour index were improved. Azotobacter treatment influenced maximum of 50% germination, whereas Azospirillum and Azotobacter were on par with C. roseus with respect to their vigour index. There was significant difference in the population of total diazotrophs. Azospirillum and Azotobacter between rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soils of C. roseus had the same trend and were observed at various locations of the study. The activities of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POX) and catalase (CAT) were increased to a significant extent due to the treatment with diazotrophs.KARTHIKEYAN B. 5Silibinin induces hepatic stellate cell cycle arrest via enhancing p53/p27 and inhibiting Akt downstream signaling protein expression显示文摘BACKGROUND: Proliferation of hepatic stellate cells(HSCs) plays a pivotal role in the progression of liver fibrosis consequent to chronic liver injury. Silibinin, a flavonoid compound,has been shown to possess anti-fibrogenic effects in animal models of liver fibrosis. This was attributed to an inhibition of cell proliferation of activated HSCs. The present study was to gain insight into the molecular pathways involved in silibinin anti-fibrogenic effect. METHODS: The study was conducted on LX-2 human stellate cells treated with three concentrations of silibinin(10, 50 and 100 μmol/L) for 24 and 96 hours. At the end of the treatment cell viability and proliferation were evaluated. Protein expression of p27, p21, p53, Akt and phosphorylated-Akt was evaluated by Western blotting analysis and Ki-67 protein expression was by immunocytochemistry. Sirtuin activity was evaluated by chemiluminescence based assay. RESULTS: Silibinin inhibits LX-2 cell proliferation in doseand time-dependent manner; we showed that silibinin upregulated the protein expressions of p27 and p53. Such regulation was correlated to an inhibition of both downstream Akt and phosphorylated-Akt protein signaling and Ki-67 protein expression. Sirtuin activity also was correlated to silibinininhibited proliferation of LX-2 cells. 6Hepatoprotective activity of brown alga Padina boergesenii against CCl_4 induced oxidative damage in Wistar rats显示文摘Objective:To investigate the protective effects of brown alga Padina boergesenii(P.boergeseii) against carbon tetrachloride(CCl4) induced oxidative damage and liver fibrosis in rats.Methods: To assess the hepatic damage liver weight,the activities of TBARS level,glutathione,SOD,CAT and GPx in circulation and liver.Results:The group of rats induced with CCl4 alone(2 mL/kg body weight),showed noticeable increase in the liver weight and TBARS level.Followed by, the level of antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase,Superoxide dismutase and catalase was also significantly(P<0.01) diminished.Where as,the rats pretreated with P.boergesenii(150 mg/ kg body weight) modulated the CCl4 induced liver fibrosis.The level of antioxidant enzymes and lipid peroxidation products was found to be significandy(P<0.01) attenuated to near normal level, when compared with rats induced with CCL,alone.In order to assess the role of carotenoids in the relevant activity,total carotenoid content of the extract was analysed and found to be 0.59 mg/g fresh weight(FW).Further,the histopathogical studies provide a supportive evidence for this study to show the protective nature of P.boergesenii.Conclusions:The protective role of brown alga P.boergesenii extract has confirmed its potential activity through its antioxidant sparing actions against CCl4 induced free radical damage.However,the possible mechanism of hepatoprotection is rather speculative at this stage and investigations are underway to isolate and characterize the bioactive compounds from P.boergesenii.Rajamani Karthikeyan ST Somasundaram T Manivasagam T Balasubramanian P Anantharaman 2010Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,9:6

8Removal of fluoride from water using aluminium containing compounds显示文摘Batch adsorption studies were undertaken to assess the suitability of aluminium titanate (AT) and bismuth aluminate (BA) to remove fluoride ions from water. The effect of pH, dose of adsorbent, contact time, initial concentration, co-ions and temperature on fluoride removal efficiency were studied. The amounts of fluoride ions adsorbed, at 30°C from 4 mg/L of fluoride ion solution, by AT and BA were 0.85 and 1.55 mg/g, respectively. The experimental data fitted well to the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms. Thermodynamic parameters such as △H0, △S 0 and △G0 indicated that the removal of fluoride ions by AT was exothermic and non-spontaneous while that by BA was endothermic and spontaneous. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) analysis and X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of the adsorbent before and after adsorption indicated that fluoride ions were chemisorbed by these adsorbents.M. 10右美托咪定自控镇静在眼科斜视手术中的应用效果显示文摘目的探讨右美托咪定用于眼科斜视手术自控镇静的效果及安全性。方法选取2016年10月~2017年10月于我院眼科行斜视手术的40例患者作为研究对象,年龄16~35岁,ASAⅠ或Ⅱ级,将其随机分为对照组(C组)和自控镇静组(PCS组),每组各20例。C组患者恒速泵注(10 ml/h)生理盐水。PCS组患者局麻前静脉泵注负荷量右美托咪定0.2μg/kg,10 min注完,局麻后给予维持量右美托咪定0.1μg/(kg·h),单次量1.0 ml/次(4μg/ml),锁定时间60 s。比较两组患者的泵注负荷量前(T0)、负荷量结束时(T1)、手术开始时(T2)、术中5 min(T3)、术中10 min(T4)、术中20 min(T5)、术中30 min(T6)、术毕(T7)时的MAP、HR、Sp O_2、Ramsay镇静评分,患者的合作度、满意度及不良反应发生情况,并观察PCS组患者的按压次数。结果 PCS组患者T2~T7的MAP均低于T0,且均低于C组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。PCS组患者T1~T7的HR均明显低于T0,且均低于C组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。C组患者T1~T7的MAP、HR与T0比较,差异无统计学意义(P>0.05)。两组患者T0、T1、T7的Ramsay镇静评分比较,差异无统计学意义(P>0.05)。PCS组患者T2~T7的Ramsay镇静评分均高于T0,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。C组患者T1~T6的Ramsay镇静评分与T0比较,差异无统计学意义(P>0.05),C组患者T7的Ramsay镇静评分高于T0,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05),PCS组患者T2~T6的Ramsay镇静评分均高于C组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。PCS组患者的满意度及合作度均优于C组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。PCS组患者术中牵拉不适、躁动和呻吟的发生率显著低于C组,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05),两组患者眼心反射的发生率比较,差异无统计学意义(P>0.05)。PCS组患者给予负荷量后,有效按压次数为(10.7±5.9)次。结论右美托咪定自控镇静可安全有效地应用于眼科斜视手术,能充分体现个体化用药,患者满意度明显增高。高新明 曹贺 邓芬芬 Karthikeyan Arcot Sadagopan Dennis Lam 尉洋 2018中国当代医药2018,25,24:4
11Development of processing maps for as-cast ZE41A magnesium alloy显示文摘The hot deformation behavior of as-cast ZE41A magnesium alloy was studied by employing both processing maps and microstructural observations. To obtain processing map, hot compression tests were performed over a range of strain rates (0.001-1.0 s-1) and temperatures (250-450 ℃). Power dissipation efficiency (η) and instability parameter [ξ (ε)] were evaluated and processing maps were developed for the strain of 0.5. The dynamic recrystallization (DRX) and instable zones were identified and validated through micrographs. 12Reinforcement Learning Based Controller Synthesis for Flexible Aircraft Wings显示文摘Aeroelastic study of flight vehicles has been a subject of great interest and research in the last several years. Aileron reversal and flutter related problems are due in part to the elasticity of a typical airplane. Structural dynamics of an aircraft wing due to its aeroelastic nature are characterized by partial differential equations. Controller design for these systems is very complex as compared to lumped parameter systems defined by ordinary differential equations. In this paper, a stabilizing statefeedback controller design approach is presented for the heave dynamics of a wing-fuselage model. In this study, a continuous actuator in the spatial domain is assumed. A control methodology is developed by combining the technique of “proper orthogonal decomposition” and approximate dynamic programming. The proper orthogonal decomposition technique is used to obtain a low-order nonlinear lumped parameter model of the infinite dimensional system. Then a near optimal controller is designed using the single-network-adaptive-critic technique. Furthermore,to add robustness to the nominal single-network-adaptive-critic controller against matched uncertainties, an identifier based adaptive controller is proposed. 13Review of imaging and endovascular intervention of iliocaval venous compression syndrome显示文摘Iliocaval venous compression syndrome(ICS)is the extrinsic compression of the common iliac vein by the overlying iliac artery against the vertebra.Chronic compression can lead to venous stenosis and stasis,which manifests as chronic venous disease and treatment resistance.Therefore,early recognition of ICS and prompt treatment are essential.Clinical presentations of ICS can be ambiguous and diagnosis requires a high index of suspicion with the relevant imaging studies.The initial imaging test is typically a Duplex ultrasound for vessel assessment and pelvic ultrasound to exclude a compressive mass,which is followed by computed tomography(CT)or magnetic resonance(MR)venography.CT and MRI can identify the anatomical causes for venous compression.In patients with high clinical suspicion for ICS,negative findings on CT and MR venography would still warrant further investigations.Definitive diagnosis can be established using catheter-based venography complemented with intravascular ultrasonography but the nature of their invasiveness limits its utility as a routine imaging modality.In this review paper,we will discuss the evidence,utility and limitations of the existing imaging modalities and endovascular intervention used in the management of ICS.Ming Ren Toh Tjun Yip Tang Han Hui Mervin Nathan Lim Nanda Venkatanarasimha Karthikeyan Damodharan 2020World Journal of Radiology2020,12,3:4

15Wet-spun poly(ionic liquid)-graphene hybrid fibers for high performance all-solid-state flexible supercapacitors显示文摘It is crucial to develop flexible and wearable electronic devices that have attracted tremendous interest due to their merits on compactness,flexibility and high capacitive properties.Herein we report the continuously ordered macroscopic poly(ionic liquid)-graphene fibers by wet spinning method via liquid crystal assembly for supercapacitor application.The fabricated all-solid-state supercapacitors exhibited a high areal capacitance(268.2 mF cm 2)and volumetric capacitance(204.6 F cm 3)with an outstanding areal energy density(9.31μWh cm-2)and volumetric energy density(8.28 mWh cm-3).The fiber supercapacitors demonstrated exceptional cycle life for straight electrodes of about 10,000 cycles(94.2%capacitance retention)and flexibility at different angles(0°,45°,90°,180°)along with a good flexible cycling stability after 6000 cycles(92.7%capacitance retention).To date,such a novel poly(ionic liquid)-graphene fiber supercapacitors would be a new platform in real-time flexible electronics.Karthikeyan Gopalsamy Qiuyan Yang Shengying Cai Tieqi Huang Zhengguo Gao Chao Gao 2019Journal of Energy Chemistry2019,28,7:4

182,3-Diaryl-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine derivatives as potential anticancer and anti-inflammatory agents显示文摘In this study we examined the suitability of the 3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine ring system in developing novel anticancer and anti-inflammatory agents incorporating a diaryl pharmacophore. Eight 2,3-diaryl-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine derivatives retrieved from our in-house database were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against nine cancer cell lines. The results indicated that the compounds showed moderate cytotoxic activity against MCF-7, MDA-MB-468, K562 and SaOS2 cells, with K562 being the most sensitive among the four cancer cell lines. The eight 2,3-diaryl-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine derivatives were also evaluated for their COX-1 and COX-2 inhibitory activity in vitro. The results showed that compound 3f exhibited 2-fold selectivity with IC_(50) values of 9.2 and 21.8 mmol/L against COX-2 and COX-1, respectively. 19A New Species of the Genus Tylototriton(Amphibia: Urodela: Salamandridae) from Eastern Himalaya显示文摘A new species of the genus Tylototriton is described from eastern Himalaya based on molecular and morphological comparisons. The new species is diagnosable from the closely-related species by having light brown colouration in dorsal region in life, flat and blunt snout, greatly separated dorsolateral bony ridges on head and straightthick tailfin. 20Studies on the seasonal variations in the proximate composition of ascidians from the Palk Bay,Southeast coast of India显示文摘Objective:To investigate the seasonal fluctuations of the proximate composition of the ascidians muscle.Methods:The moisture content was estimated by drying 1 g of fresh tissue at a constant temperature at 105(?)for 24 h.The loss of weight was taken as moisture content.The total protein was estimated using the Biuret method.The total carbohydrate in dried sample was estimated spectrophotometrically following the phenol-sulphuric acid method.The lipid in the dried sample tissue was gravimetrically estimated following the chloroform-methanol mixture method.Ash content was determined gravimetrically by incinerating 1 g dried sample in muffle furnace at about 550℃for 6 h and results are expressed in percentage.Results:It was found very difficult to compare the monthly variations,as all the ten species,exhibited wide fluctuations in their proximate compositions.For the sake of convenience,average seasonal values were calculated by summing the monthly values.Conclusions:The proximate composition of the 10 commonly available ascidians showed high nutritive value and hence these groups especially solitary ascidians can be recommended for human consumption in terms of pickles,soup,curry and others after ensuring the safety of consumers.Ananthan G Karthikeyan MM Selva Prabhu A Raghunathan C 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,10:3
