| 1 | Nitrogen in Relation to Photosynthetic Capacity and Accumulation of Osmoprotectant and Nutrients in Brassica Genotypes Grown Under Salt Stress显示文摘Different strategies of the application of nutrients are required to overcome the adverse effects of mustard (Brassica juncea L.) in response to NaCl stress. The objective of the present study was to determine if different added levels of nitrogen (N) in growth medium could alleviate the adverse effects of salt stress on photosynthetic capacity and accumulation of osmoprotectants and nutrients. 14 days mustard seedlings of salt-sensitive (cv. Chuutki) and salt-tolerant (cv. Radha) genotypes were fed with: (i) 0 mmol L-1 NaCl + 0 mg N kg-1 sand (control), (ii) 90 mmol L-1 NaCl + 30 mg N kg-1 sand, (iii) 90 mmol L-1 NaCl + 60 mg N kg-1 sand, (iv) 90 mmol L-1 NaCl + 90 mg N kg-1 sand and (v) 90 mmol L-1 NaCl + 120 mg N kg-1 sand. Under the condition of salinity stress, N application caused a significant ameliorative effect on both genotypes with respect to growth attributes [fresh weight (FW) and dry weight (DW)] and physio-biochemical parameters [percent water content (WC), net photosynthetic rate (PN), stomatal conductance (gs), total chlorophyll (Chl), carbonic anhydrase (CA) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA), nitrogen (N), potassium (K) and sodium (Na) contents, and K/Na ratio] and yield attributes (number of pods/plant, seeds/pod and seed yield/plant). The salt-tolerant genotype exhibited maximum value for growth, physio-biochemical and yield attributes at 60 mg N kg-1 sand than that of salt-sensitive genotype. | 2 | Arterial complication of irreversible electroporation procedure for locally advanced pancreatic cancer显示文摘Irreversible electroporation(IRE) is a non-thermal ablation technique used especially in locally advanced pancreatic carcinomas that are considered surgically unresectable.We present the first case of acute superior mesenteric artery(SMA) occlusion secondary to pancreatic IRE procedure that has not been reported before in the literature.A 66-year-old man underwent neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.IRE procedure was applied to the patient during laparotomy under general anesthesia.After finishing the procedure,an acute intestinal ischemia was detected.A conventional vascular angiography was performed and a metallic stent was successfully placed to the SMA and blood flow was maintained.It is important to be careful in such cases of tumor involvement of SMA when evaluating for IRE procedure of pancreatic tumor. | Yahya Ekici Tugan Tezcaner Hüseyin Onur Aydin Fatih Boyvat G?khan Moray | 2016 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2016,8,10: | 5 |
| 3 | Surface plasmon polariton at the interface of dielectric and graphene medium using Kerr effect显示文摘We theoretically investigate the control of surface plasmon polariton(SPP) generated at the interface of dielectric and graphene medium under Kerr nonlinearity. The controlled Kerr nonlinear signal of probe light beam in a dielectric medium is used to generate SPPs at the interface of dielectric and graphene medium. The positive, negative absorption, and dispersion properties of SPPs are modified and controlled by the control and Kerr fields. A large amplification(negative absorption) is noted for SPPs under the Kerr nonlinearity. The normal/anomalous slope of dispersion and propagation length of SPPs is modified and controlled with Kerr nonlinearity. This leads to significant variation in slow and fast SPP propagation. | 5 | Physiological and biochemical appraisal for mulching and partial rhizosphere drying of cotton显示文摘Water is the main factor for the healthy life of plant.One of the main negative effects of climate change is the increasing scarcity of water that is lethal for plant.Globally,for water deficit regions(arid and semi-arid),drought is the main factor responsible for low production of agriculture,especially for cotton.Great efforts have been and are being made to find alternatives to water saving practices.This study aimed to examine the effects of partial rhizosphere drying(PRD,half of the root system irrigated at one event,and the other half irrigated in the next event,and so on)with and/or without various mulching treatments on physiological and biochemical traits of cotton.To explore this objective,we laid out experiments in completely randomized design with factorial arrangement in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur,Pakistan in 2016.Two factors included were four mulching treatments(M0,no mulching;M1,black plastic mulching;M2,wheat straw mulching;and M3,cotton sticks mulching)and two irrigation levels(I0,control(full irrigation);and I1,PRD).Fisher's analysis of variance among means of treatments was compared using least significant difference test at 5% probability level.Results revealed that the maximum plant height,leaf area,leaf gas exchange(photosynthetic rate and stomata conductance),chlorophyll,proline and total sugar contents,and enzyme activities were higher under M2 than under other three mulching treatments.As for irrigation levels,higher values of plant height,photosynthesis and water related parameters(leaf water potential,leaf osmotic potential,leaf turgor potential,etc.)were recorded.Contents of total sugar and proline and activities of antioxidant enzymes were significantly higher in PRD-treated plants than in control plants.It was concluded that combined application of PRD and mulching was more effective than the rest of the treatments used in the experiment.Similar study can be conducted in the field by applying irrigation water in alternate rows in semi-arid regions. | Rashid IQBAL Muhammad A S RAZA Muhammad F SALEEM Imran H KHAN Salman AHMAD Muhammad S ZAHEER Muhammad U ASLAM Imran HAIDER | 2019 | Journal of Arid Land2019,11,5: | 2 |

| 7 | Meteorological impacts on evapotranspiration in different climatic zones of Pakistan显示文摘Arid regions are highly vulnerable and sensitive to drought. The crops cultivated in arid zones are at high risk due to the high evapotranspiration and water demands. This study analyzed the changes in seasonal and annual evapotranspiration(ET) during 1951–2016 at 50 meteorological stations located in the extremely arid, arid, and semi-arid zones of Pakistan using the Penman Monteith(PM) method. The results show that ET is highly sensitive and positively correlated to temperature, solar radiation, and wind speed whereas vapor pressure is negatively correlated to ET. The study also identifies the relationship of ET with the meteorological parameters in different climatic zones of Pakistan. The significant trend analysis of precipitation and temperature(maximum and minimum) are conducted at 95% confidence level to determine the behaviors of these parameters in the extremely arid, arid, and semi-arid zones. The mean annual precipitation and annual mean maximum temperature significantly increased by 0.828 mm/a and 0.014℃/a in the arid and extremely arid zones, respectively. The annual mean minimum temperature increased by 0.017℃/a in the extremely arid zone and 0.019℃/a in the arid zone, whereas a significant decrease of 0.007℃/a was observed in the semi-arid zone.
