| 1 | Eigenvalue approximation from below using non-conforming finite elements显示文摘This is a survey article about using non-conforming finite elements in solving eigenvalue problems of elliptic operators,with emphasis on obtaining lower bounds. In addition,this article also contains some new materials for eigenvalue approximations of the Laplace operator,which include:1) the proof of the fact that the non-conforming Crouzeix-Raviart element approximates eigenvalues associated with smooth eigenfunctions from below;2) the proof of the fact that the non-conforming EQ rot1 element approximates eigenvalues from below on polygonal domains that can be decomposed into rectangular elements;3) the explanation of the phenomena that numerical eigenvalues λ 1,h and λ 3,h of the non-conforming Q rot1 element approximate the true eigenvalues from below for the L-shaped domain. | 2 | Stimulatory Effects of NMDA on Intracellular Ca^(2+) Nonlinear Kinetic Model in Rat Dorsal Root Ganglion Neurons显示文摘The present study revealed the stimulatory effects of NMDA on intracellular ca 2+ concentration in rat dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. Fura 3/AM, an intracellular calcium fluorescent indicator was used to monitor the fluctuation of 〔ca 2+ 〕 i. Here we present the evidence that (1) Confocal microscopy resolved the cells of three different sizes, based on which a cell diameter distribution histogram was drawn. The fluorescence signals originated from the cells of different sizes, small size (diameter<30μm), medium size (diameter between 30 to 50μm),and large size (diameter>50μm); presumably intracellular Ca 2+ concentration was different in the cells of different sizes. (2) The time related variation of fluorescence intensity was observed. In particular, the fluorescence intensity in 0 Ca 2+ bath solution was affected by the application of high ca 2+ solution. (3) In 0 ca 2+ bath solution the intracellular Ca 2+ concentration nonlinear properties of distinct diameter cells was described. (4) A kind of SETAR model was fitted with a medium sized cell.(5)The residuals from the fitted model were tested to see whether they were plausibly Gaussian. These findings indicated that in distinct types of cells intracellular Ca 2+ concentration had different characteristics in different DRG neurons, and contributed to different functions of these neurons. | 3 | Effects of Delayed Second Cochlear Implant显示文摘Objective Since Helms' successful bilateral cochlear implantation with good results in 1996, there have been increasing number of reports on bilateral cochlear implantation. Most second device have been implantated within one year after the first. Considering effects of long time auditory deprivation, it is not clear whether a delayed second cochlear implant serves to add additional benefits and how it may interact with central nervous system plasticity. Methods Three cases who received delayed second cochlear implants at People's Hospital of Peking University from 2002 to 2005 were reviewed. The interval between the first and second implants was longer than 2 years in all three patients. Sound perception, and unilateral/bilateral speech discrimination in quiet and noise were evaluated. In addition, GAP detection test was conducted in one patient. Results In one case, having both implants on provided improved performance compared to using only one implant both in quiet and noise. Presumably due to visual interference from lip-reading or short interval between second implant and testing, one patient showed no improvement from using the second implant either in quiet or noise, while the last case demonstrated additional benefits from the second implant only in quiet. In all three patients, performance in recognizing the four tones in Mandarin was superior over word recognition. Conclusions Considerable plasticity in the cerebral auditory center is preserved, despite long acoustic deprivation in some children who have received unilateral cochlear implant. Delayed second implants can result in significant improvements in some of these children. Visual interference from lip-reading may be an obstacle during retraining.
