| 1 | Elimination of senescent cells byβ-galactosidase-targeted prodrug attenuates inflammation and restores physical function in aged mice显示文摘Cellular senescence,a persistent state of cell cycle arrest, accumulates in aged organisms, contributes to tissue dysfunction, and drives age-related phenotypes. The clearance of senescent cells is expected to decrease chronic,low-grade inflammation and improve tissue repair capacity, thus attenuating the decline of physical function in aged organisms. However, selective and effective clearance of senescent cells of different cell types has proven challenging.Herein,we developed a prodrug strategy to design a new compound based on the increased activity of lysosomalβ-galactosidase(β-gal),a primary characteristic of senescent cells. Our prodrug SSK1 is specifically activated byβ-gal and eliminates mouse and human senescent cells independently of senescence inducers and cell types. In aged mice, our compound effectively cleared senescent cells in different tissues, decreased the senescence-and age-associated gene signatures, attenuated low-grade local and systemic inflammation, and restored physical function. Our results demonstrate that lysosomalβ-gal can be effectively leveraged to selectively eliminate senescent cells, providing a novel strategy to develop anti-aging interventions. | Yusheng Cai Huanhuan Zhou Yinhua Zhu Qi Sun Yin Ji Anqi Xue Yuting Wang Wenhan Chen Xiaojie Yu Longteng Wang Han Chen Cheng Li Tuoping Luo Hongkui Deng | 2020 | Cell Research2020,30,7: | 12 |
| 2 | Optical Micro/Nano Fibers Enabled Smart Textiles for Human-Machine Interface显示文摘Wearable human-machine interface(HMI)is an advanced technology that has a wide range of applications from robotics to augmented/virtual reality(AR/VR).In this study,an optically driven wearable human-interactive smart textile is proposed by integrating a polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)patch embedded with optical micro/nanofibers(MNF)array with a piece of textiles.Enabled by the highly sensitive pressure dependent bending loss of MNF,the smart textile shows high sensitivity(65.5 kPa^(−1))and fast response(25 ms)for touch sensing.Benefiting from the warp and weft structure of the textile, the optical smart textile can feel slight finger slip along the MNF.Furthermore, machine learning is utilized to classify the touch manners, achieving a recognition accuracy as high as 98.1%.As a proof-of-concept,a remote-control robotic hand and a smart interactive doll are demonstrated based on the optical smart textile. This optical smart textile represents an ideal HMI for AR/VR and robotics applications. | Shuqi Ma Xiaoyu Wang Pan Li Ni Yao Jianliang Xiao Haitao Liu Zhang Zhang Longteng Yu Guangming Tao Xiong Li Limin Tong Lei Zhang | 2022 | Advanced Fiber Materials2022,4,5: | 5 |
| 3 | Single optical microfiber enabled tactile sensor for simultaneous temperature and pressure measurement显示文摘The ability to sense heat and touch is essential for healthcare, robotics, and human–machine interfaces.By taking advantage of the engineerable waveguiding properties,we design and fabricate a flexible optical microfiber sensor for simultaneous temperature and pressure measurement based on theoretical calculation. The sensor exhibits a high temperature sensitivity of 1.2 nm/℃ by measuring the shift of a high-order mode cutoff wavelength in the short-wavelength range. In the case of pressure sensing, the sensor shows a sensitivity of 4.5%per kilopascal with a fast temporal frequency response of 1000 Hz owing to the strong evanescent wave guided outside the microfiber. The cross talk is negligible because the temperature and pressure signals are measured at different wavelengths based on different mechanisms. The properties of fast temporal response, high temperature, and pressure sensitivity enable the sensor for real-time skin temperature and wrist pulse measurements, which is critical to the accurate analysis of pulse waveforms. We believe the sensor will have great potential in wearable optical devices ranging from healthcare to humanoid robots. | NI YAO XIAOYU WANG SHUQI MA XINGDA SONG SHAN WANG ZHANGXING SHI JING PAN SHIPENG WANG JIANLIANG XIAO HAITAO LIU LONGTENG YU YAO TANG ZHANG ZHANG XIONG LI WEI FANG LEI ZHANG LIMIN TONG | 2022 | Photonics Research2022,10,9: | 2 |
| 4 | Knot-inspired optical sensors for slip detection and friction measurement in dexterous robotic manipulation显示文摘Friction plays a critical role in dexterous robotic manipulation. However, realizing friction sensing remains a challenge due to the difficulty in designing sensing structures to decouple multi-axial forces.Inspired by the topological mechanics of knots,we construct optical fiber knot(OFN)sensors for slip detection and friction measurement.By introducing localized self-contacts along the fiber, the knot structure enables anisotropic responses to normal and frictional forces.By employing OFNs and a change point detection algorithm,we demonstrate adaptive robotic grasping of slipping cups.We further develop a robotic finger that can measure tri-axial forces via a centrosymmetric architecture composed of five OFNs.Such a tactile finger allows a robotic hand to manipulate human tools dexterously. This work could provide a straightforward and cost-effective strategy for promoting adaptive grasping, dexterous manipulation, and human-robot interaction with tactile sensing. | Jing Pan Qi Wang Shuaikang Gao Zhang Zhang Yu Xie Longteng Yu Lei Zhang | 2023 | Opto-Electronic Advances2023,6,10: | 0 |
