Study of Shaking Table Test on Dynamic Response Characteristics and Failure Mechanism of the Loess Slope显示文摘The natural loess that covers the ground surface has good stability due to its low water content. However, when violent earthquakes occur, the strong dynamic stress generated in the slope may induce landslide disasters with different sizes. In this paper,a large-scale shaking table model test is used to reveal the dynamic response and instability failure process of the loess slope. The test results show that different parts of the slope have different vibration characteristics and the first natural frequency in the model increases with the increase of the slope height. The response acceleration of different parts may change due to the coupling relationship between the spectral characteristics of input wave and the natural frequencies of different parts of slope, suggesting the characteristics of regional differential dynamic response.Under the condition of different dynamic response, stress state and boundary conditions of different parts of slope,a rapid microstructural damage, cumulative residual deformation evolution, and tension-shear coupling instability failure process may appear at the top of the slope with the strong dynamic response associated with the increase of dynamic loading intensity. The Sd values presented in this paper may reflect soil damage and slope instability and failure. | PU Xiaowu WANG Lanmin WANG Ping CHAI Shaofeng XU Shiyang | 2020 | Earthquake Research in China2020,34,1: | 3
Review and Discussion on Seismic Subsidence of Loess显示文摘The research and achievements made on seismic subsidence of loess, obtained over the past30 years, were reviewed.Seismic Subsidence of Loess(SSL)has been verified by microstructure characteristics, dynamic triaxial experiments, and in-situ explosion tests, and has become an important subject in the field of seismic loess engineering research. While, the research is still in the stage of theoretical study of saturated soil, and there are no representative cases of seismic subsidence of loess in historical earthquakes. It is difficult to express structure characteristics using microstructure morphology. While, soil mechanics are available methods for this.Seismic subsidence judgment is absolute in some certain value ranges for several parameters. Therefore, probabilistic judgment should be developed. The seismic subsidence ratio is estimated mostly by empirical formulas or semiempirical and semi-theoretical formulas, which are based on laboratory data. These formulas are not established on the basis of physical process and mechanics of seismic subsidence, and this leads to more variables, complicated computation, and poor practicability. To solve these problems,we need to distinguish the main factors and corresponding variables,to establish a mechanics model for seismic subsidence estimation, and to characterize its physio-mechanical process. The key of anti-seismic subsidence treatment is to reduce the seismic subsidence property of soils, and to lower the interaction between the soil body and underground structures. | Wang Qiang Sun Junjie Wang Lanmin Chen Xiuqing | 2013 | Earthquake Research in China2013,27,4: | 2

Evaluation for Earthquake Liquefaction of Loess Sites显示文摘Through the sinusoid loading dynamic triaxial test, the liquefaction property of saturated loess and sand selected from a civil airport of Lanzhou, Gansu is examined. Based on the laboratory results, a comprehensive assessment on the earthquake liquefaction potential of the loess and sand is given, using the liquefaction resistance shear stress method and the results of seismic hazard assessment. It is found that under the effect of ground motion with exceedance probability of 10% within 50 years, the loess in the study is more susceptible to liquefaction than sand. | Wang Jun Wang Lanmin Wang Ping | 2009 | Earthquake Research in China2009,23,2: | 1

Experimental Study of the Subsidence Characteristics of Clayey Loess显示文摘Presented in this paper are the results of experimental study and analysis of the subsidence characteristics obtained from soil samples with different contents of clay particles though laboratory dynamic triaxial test, Laser particle size analysis, chemical analysis and electronic microscope scanning. By comparison of the obtained data, the following conclusions are drawn out:(1)The stability of the loess varies with different content of clay; (2) The relation between the dynamic shear strength and the clay particles is not monotonous, but parabolic; (3) In the same consolidation ratio, the clayey loess is the weakest subsidence-resistant when the clay particle content is between 16%~17%. | Li Lan Wang Lanmin | 2007 | Earthquake Research in China2007,21,4: | 0
Study on the Microstructure of Loess in Meizoseismal Zone显示文摘In this paper, quantitative study on the microstructure of loess is done based on the study of seismic subsidences of the Yongdeng M_S5.8 earthquake in 1995. Using SEM and image processing techniques, a comparison analysis on the microstructure of loess is done and distribution curves of loess pores are obtained. Based on laser grain analyzer test and trellis structure changes under earthquake effect, the dynamic properties of loess are explained. At the same time, pore distribution of loess from seismic zone and non-seismic zone is compared. The result shows that the pore distribution features of different meizoseismal zones are different, and even that loess at the similar depths has substantial differences, too. | Li Lan Wang Lanmin Liu Xu | 2006 | Earthquake Research in China2006,20,1: | 0
Study regarding typical liquefaction damage during the 2021 Maduo M_(s)7.4 earthquake in China显示文摘The most important method of understanding liquefaction-induced engineering failures comes from the investigation and analysis of earthquake damage. In May 2021,the Maduo M_(s)7.4 earthquake occurred on the Tibetan Plateau of China. The most representative engineering disaster caused by this earthquake was bridge damage on liquefied sites. In this study, the mutual relationships between the anti-liquefaction pre-design situation, the ground motion intensity, the site liquefaction severity, and the bridge damage state for this earthquake were systematically analyzed for typical bridge damage on the liquefied sites.Using field survey data and the current Chinese industry code, simulations of the liquefaction scenarios at typical bridge sites were performed for the pre-design seismic ground motion before the earthquake and the seismic ground motion during the earthquake.By combining these results with post-earthquake investigation results, the reason for the serious bridge damage resulting from this earthquake is revealed, and the necessary conditions for avoiding serious seismic damage to bridges built in liquefiable sites is presented. | Yuan Jinyuan Wang Yunlong Ma Jiajun Zhan Beilei Yuan Xiaoming Wang Lanmin Wu Xiaoyang | 2023 | Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2023,22,4: | 0

Flow Characteristics of Large-Scale Liquefaction-Slip of the Loess Strata in Shibei Tableland, Guyuan City,Induced by the 1920 Haiyuan M81/2 Earthquake显示文摘Based on the dynamic triaxial liquefaction test of the loess samples which are taken from Shibei tableland,Guyuan City,Ningxia,China, the characteristics of dynamic strain, dynamic stress and pore water pressure are studied under cyclic loading.Triaxial shear test is conducted immediately after the sample reaches liquefaction point.During the test, the property of the liquefied soil is analyzed through fluid mechanics method, whereby the fluidity of the liquefied soil is represented by apparent viscosity. The results show that the fluidity of liquefied loess changes from“shear thickening”to“shear thinning”as the shear force continues, and the fluidity of liquefied loess is closely related to its structure. In addition,in the process of forming a new stable state, the apparent viscosity and deviant stress change with axial strain in a similar approach. When the sample reaches its stable state,it meanwhile shows a relatively stable apparent viscosity.According to the fluid mechanics and the law of conservation of energy, the slip distance of the liquefied soil is estimated, and the results are in good agreement with the field investigation results. | MA Xingyu WANG Lanmin WANG Qian WANG Ping ZHONG Xiumei PU Xiaowu LIU Fuqiang XU Xiaowei | 2020 | Earthquake Research in China2020,34,4: | 0
