2Redox condition during Ediacaran–Cambrian transition in the Lower Yangtze deep water basin, South China: constraints from iron speciation and δ^(13) Corg in the Diben section, Zhejiang显示文摘Cherts of the Piyuancun Formation and black mudstones of the Hetang Formation in Diben Town, Kaihua County, Zhejiang were deposited in a deep water basin of the Lower Yangtze area during the Ediacaran–Cambrian transition(E–C transition), offering an opportunity to reconstruct the ancient redox condition of the deep water basin. Total 53 samples were collected and analyzed for iron speciation, including pyrite iron(FePy), carbonate associated iron(FeCarb), iron oxide and hydroxide(FeOx),magnetite iron(FeMag) and total iron(FeT) as well as d13 Corgto gain a deeper understanding of specific redox condition during the period. The results show that(1) most samples have pyrite concentration \1 %, with the FePy/FeHR ratio ranging from \0.01 to 0.81(mostly \0.5), and the FeHR/FeT ratio between 0.39 and 0.93(mostly [0.5).(2) The E–C boundary in the Diben section occurred at the maximum negative excursion of organic carbon isotope within the Piyuancun Formation, which can be correlated with other sections by using d13 Corg. We thus concluded that the relatively high content of highly reactive iron and low content of pyrite iron in the Diben section indicate a minor occurrence of H2 S and a predominance of anoxic and ferruginous environment, which is similar to other reported sections such as the Longbizui and Yanwutan sections, western Hunan. In addition, oxygen concentration in sea water showed an increasing trend in the interval corresponding to the bottom and upper layer of the Hetang Formation as indicated by the FeHR/FeT ratio, which decreased from 0.7 to 0.38, however, it was not great enough to oxidize the whole deep water. Therefore, during the E–C transition deep water basin in South China was most likely an anoxic and ferruginous enrironment, which prevented metazoon from the evolution in the deep water basin. 4Effect of electroacupuncture at Zusanli(ST 36) on dorsal root nerve signals in normal rats显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To investigate how electroacupuncture (EA) at Zusanli (ST 36) with varying intensities of stimulation affects dorsal root nerve signals in normal rats. METHODS: Adult female Wistar rats were examined after drug-induced anesthesia and isolation of the L4 dorsal root associated with the Zusanli (ST 36) acupoint, using bipolar platinum electrodes. We applied EA at Zusanli (ST 36) with a continuous wave waveform for 1 min, and recorded action potentials in the L4 spinal cord dorsal root nerve with a frequency of 5 Hz and various current intensity levels (approximately 1-4 mA). In addition, we tested EA with a frequency of 15 Hz and current intensity of 1-4 mA. The L4 spinal cord dorsal nerve bundle action potentials were measured for 1 min of EA. To analyze the discharge frequency, we used the maximum Lyapunov exponent and Lempel-Ziv (LZ) complexity. RESULTS: At a fixed frequency, with increasing intensity of EA, dorsal root nerve filament discharge frequency revealed an initial increase, followed by a decreasing trend. A stimulation intensity of 3 mA induced a significantly greater discharge frequency, compared with stimulation intensities of 2 and 4 mA. EA stimulation evoked neuroelectric signals with chaotic characteristics. Increased intensity led to an initial increase in LZ complexity which then decreased, with a stimulation strength of 3 mA inducing the highest level of LZ complexity. 7Lipid Evidence for Oil Depletion by Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria during U Mineralization in the Dongsheng Deposit显示文摘Fatty acids were extracted from fluid inclusions, and analyzed for distribution and individual δ13 C values to determine if there exists sulfate-reducing bacteria(SRB) and what substrates SRB depleted during U mineralization in the Dongsheng deposit. The 10-methylhexadecanoic acid(10 Me16:0) has been detected from most of the samples using GC-MS based on relative retention time and co-injection of standard 10 Me16:0 compound. Samples with higher 10 Me16:0 concentrations, show higher U contents. The presence of 10 Me16:0 along with iso-ω7-cis-heptadecenoic acid(i17:1ω7 c) and ω7-cisoctadecenoic acid(18:1ω7 c) in the fluid inclusions may indicate the occurrence of SRB during the U mineralization. Saturated fatty-acids and unsaturated fatty-acids detected in this study have individual δ13 C values from-30.3‰ to-28.5‰ and-30.5‰ to-27.9‰, respectively. These values are close to those of n-alkanes of the associated oils and the bulk oils, but significantly distinct from methane, thus the oils are concluded to have been used as substrate for the microorganisms to survive on. 8Ethylene thiourea exposure induces neurobehavioral toxicity in zebrafish by disrupting axon growth and neuromuscular junctions显示文摘Ethylene thiourea(ETU)converted from ethylene bisdithiocarbamate(EBDC)fungicides has aroused great concern because of its prevalence and harmful effects.Although ETU-induced neurotoxicity has been reported,the potential mechanisms remain unclear.This study provided insights into its neurotoxic effects at environmentally relevant concentrations in zebrafish.Our findings showed that embryonic exposure to ETU decreased the hatch rate and delayed somite development.Furthermore,ETU treatment significantly reduced the dark velocity in the locomotion assay.The upregulated tendency of the mitogen-activated protein kinases(MAPK)pathway(mknk1,atf4,mapkapk3)screened by transcriptome analysis implied motor neuron degeneration,which was validated by subsequent morphological observation,as axon length and branches were truncated in the 62.5μg/L ETU group.However,although the rescue experiment with a p38 MAPK inhibitor(SB203580)successfully ameliorated axon degeneration,it failed to reverse the locomotion behaviors.Further exploration of transcriptome data revealed the varied expression of presynaptic scaffold protein-related genes(pcloa,pclob,bsna),whose downregulation might impair the neuromuscular junction(NMJ).Therefore,we reasonably suspected that ETU-induced neurobehavioral deficits might result from the combined effects of the MAPK pathway and presynaptic proteins.Considering this,we highlighted the necessity to take precautions and early interventions for susceptible ETU-exposed populations.Jingming Wang Zhiquan Yu Yongfeng Wang Yuanyao Chen Lin Xiao Yanjun Zong Qiyuan Feng Lianqi Peng Huiping Zhang Chunyan Liu 2024Journal of Environmental Sciences2024,,3:0
