| 2 | Spatio-temporal Variation of Wind Erosion in Inner Mongolia of China Between 2001 and 2010显示文摘Using Geographic Information System(GIS), based on wind speed, precipitation, topographic, soil, vegetation coverage and land use data of Inner Mongolia between 2001 and 2010, we applied the revised wind erosion equation(RWEQ) model to simulate wind erosion intensity. The results showed that an area of approximately 47.8 × 10~4 km^2 experienced wind erosion in 2010, 23.2% of this erosion could be rated as severe, and 46.0% as moderate. Both the area and the intensity of wind erosion had decreased from 2001 to 2010, the wind erosion area reduced 10.1%, and wind erosion intensity decreased by 29.4%. Precipitation, wind speed, population size and urbanization in rural areas, and gross domestic product of primary industry(GDP1) were the main factors influencing wind erosion. Overall, these factors accounted for 88.8% of the wind erosion. | 3 | Early prediction of pathological outcomes to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer patients using automated breast ultrasound显示文摘Objective: Early assessment of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC) for breast cancer allows therapy to be individualized.The optimal assessment method has not been established.We investigated the accuracy of automated breast ultrasound(ABUS) to predict pathological outcomes after NAC.Methods: A total of 290 breast cancer patients were eligible for this study.Tumor response after 2 cycles of chemotherapy was assessed using the product change of two largest perpendicular diameters(PC) or the longest diameter change(LDC).PC and LDC were analyzed on the axial and the coronal planes respectively.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curves were used to evaluate overall performance of the prediction methods.Youden's indexes were calculated to select the optimal cut-off value for each method.Sensitivity, specificity,positive and negative predictive values(PPV and NPV) and the area under the ROC curve(AUC) were calculated accordingly.Results: yp T0/is was achieved in 42 patients(14.5%) while yp T0 was achieved in 30 patients(10.3%) after NAC.All four prediction methods(PC on axial planes, LDC on axial planes, PC on coronal planes and LDC on coronal planes) displayed high AUCs(all>0.82), with the highest of 0.89 [95% confidence interval(95% CI), 0.83–0.95]when mid-treatment ABUS was used to predict final pathological complete remission(p CR).High sensitivities(85.7%–88.1%) were observed across all four prediction methods while high specificities(81.5%–85.1%) were observed in two methods used PC.The optimal cut-off values defined by our data replicate the WHO and the RECIST criteria.Lower AUCs were observed when mid-treatment ABUS was used to predict poor pathological outcomes.Conclusions: ABUS is a useful tool in early evaluation of p CR after NAC while less reliable when predicting poor pathological outcomes. | Xinguang Wang Ling Huo Yingjian He Zhaoqing Fan Tianfeng Wang Yuntao Xie Jinfeng Li Tao Ouyang | 2016 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2016,28,5: | 11 |
| 4 | Expression and significance of lysyl oxidase-like 1 and fibulin-5 in the cardinal ligament tissue of patients with pelvic floor dysfunction显示文摘Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a disabling disorder in women characterized by a loss of pelvic floor support,leading to the herniation of the uterus into or through the vagina.POP is a complex problem that likely involves multiple mechanisms with limited therapies available,and is associated with defects in connective tissue including elastic fibers.This study was designed to investigate the expression of fibulin-5 and lysyl oxidase-like 1 (LOXL1) in the cardinal ligament in samples taken from the POP group compared to the non-POP group.Specimens were obtained during abdominal hysterectomy from the cardinal ligament of 53 women with POP and 25 age-and parity-matched women with non-POP among post-menopausal women with benign gynecologic pathology.Protein expression was evaluated using the immunohistochemical staining method.For statistical analyses,chi-square test and Spearman's correlation were used with the statistical package SPSS13.0 system.Our results showed that both fibulin-5 and LOXL1 expressions were decreased in the cardinal ligament in the POP group compared to the nonPOP group (P < 0.05).The expression of fibulin-5 and LOXL1 were correlated closely with the stage of POP,accompanied by stress urinary incontinence and frequency of vaginal delivery (P < 0.05),but had no relationship with post-menopausal state (P > 0.05).The expression of fibulin-5 was positively associated with LOXL1 in POP (P < 0.05).We conclude that changesin fibulin-5and LOXL1expression may playa role in the development of POP. | Yang Zhou Ouyang Ling Li Bo | 2013 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2013,27,1: | 10 |
| 5 | Garlic-derived compound S-allylmercaptocysteine inhibits hepatocarcinogenesis through targeting LRP6/Wnt pathway显示文摘Whether and how garlic-derived S-allylmercaptocysteine(SAMC) inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is largely unknown. In the current study, the role of low-density lipoprotein receptor(LDLR)-related protein 6(LRP6) in HCC progression and the anti-HCC mechanism of SAMC was examined in clinical sample, cell model and xenograft/orthotopic mouse models. We demonstrated that SAMC inhibited cell proliferation and tumorigenesis, while induced apoptosis of human HCC cells without influencing normal hepatocytes. SAMC directly interacted with Wnt-pathway co-receptor LRP6 on the cell membrane. LRP6 was frequently over-expressed in the tumor tissue of human HCC patients(66.7% of 48 patients) and its overexpression only correlated with the over-expression of β-catenin, but not with age, gender, tumor size, stage and metastasis. Deficiency or over-expression of LRP6 in hepatoma cells could partly mimic or counteract the anti-tumor properties of SAMC, respectively. In vivo administration of SAMC significantly suppressed the growth of Huh-7 xenograft/orthotopic HCC tumor without causing undesirable side effects. In addition, stable down-regulation of LRP6 in Huh-7 facilitated the anti-HCC effects of SAMC. In conclusion, LRP6 can be a potential therapeutic target of HCC. | 6 | Insight into the catalytic activity of MXenes for hydrogen evolution reaction显示文摘MXenes have exhibited great potential as cost-effective electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER). However, insight into the origin of activity is still missing. Herein, on the basis of a systematical investigation of the HER performance of 20 MXenes(M_2NO_2 and M_2CO_2, M = Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Zr, Nb, Mo,Hf, Ta and W), a Fermi-abundance model is proposed to understand variation of the activity in different MXenes. It is found that the occupied p electronic states of surface O atoms play a decisive role in the HER activity of MXenes. More importantly, Ti_2NO_2 and Nb_2NO_2 are found to be promising HER electrocatalysts with the free energy for hydrogen adsorption close to zero. | 7 | Qualitative detection of ginsenosides in brain tissues after oral administration of high-purity ginseng total saponins by using polyclonal antibody against ginsenosides显示文摘Given the limited studies and conflicting findings, the transport character of ginsenosides crossing the blood–brain barrier(BBB) remains unclear. The present study was designed to qualitatively determine the distribution of ginsenosides in brain tissues after oral administration of ginseng total saponins, using high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(HPLC-MS/MS) combined with immunohistochemistry. In brain tissue homogenates, ginsenoside Rg1 was detectable and no other ginsenosides or their metabolites were found. No ginsenosides were detected in cerebrospinal fluid. Immunohistochemistry staining of brain tissue sections by using anti-ginsenoside polyclonal antibodies revealed the localization of ginsenosides in brain tissues. Furthermore, immunofluorescence double staining revealed that ginsenosides widely existed in vascular endotheliocytes and astrocytes, and in few neurons. | 8 | Discrimination of toxic ingredient between raw and processed Pinellia ternata by UPLC/Q-TOF-MS/MS with principal component analysis and T-test显示文摘Objective: To investigate the toxicity difference between raw and processed Pinelliae Rhizoma(Banxia in Chinese, BX), the rhizoma of Pinellia ternata, from the view of chemical composition.Methods: Sixteen samples of raw and processed BX were prepared and analyzed by UPLC/Q-TOF-MS/MS.The discrimination(chemical marker) between the two group was investigated by principal component analysis(PCA) and T-test analysis. According to the accurate charge-to-mass ratio, MS/MS fragments, and comparison of corresponding data with the reference or database, the chemical markers were identified preliminarily.Results: Liquiritin, liquiritigenin, and lysophosphatidylcholine(LPC) were identified as the characteristic markers. The reducing of LPC in processed BX was one of the main reasons for detoxification because LPC could induce the inflammatory response;Liquiritin and liquiritigenin showed the anti-inflammatory effect and reduced liver injury, therefore the appearance of them in processed BX was an another reason for detoxification.Conclusion: An approach to explain the mechanisms of reducing the toxicity in medicinal plants by processing was proposed.
