1Early prediction of pathological outcomes to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer patients using automated breast ultrasound显示文摘Objective: Early assessment of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC) for breast cancer allows therapy to be individualized.The optimal assessment method has not been established.We investigated the accuracy of automated breast ultrasound(ABUS) to predict pathological outcomes after NAC.Methods: A total of 290 breast cancer patients were eligible for this study.Tumor response after 2 cycles of chemotherapy was assessed using the product change of two largest perpendicular diameters(PC) or the longest diameter change(LDC).PC and LDC were analyzed on the axial and the coronal planes respectively.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curves were used to evaluate overall performance of the prediction methods.Youden's indexes were calculated to select the optimal cut-off value for each method.Sensitivity, specificity,positive and negative predictive values(PPV and NPV) and the area under the ROC curve(AUC) were calculated accordingly.Results: yp T0/is was achieved in 42 patients(14.5%) while yp T0 was achieved in 30 patients(10.3%) after NAC.All four prediction methods(PC on axial planes, LDC on axial planes, PC on coronal planes and LDC on coronal planes) displayed high AUCs(all>0.82), with the highest of 0.89 [95% confidence interval(95% CI), 0.83–0.95]when mid-treatment ABUS was used to predict final pathological complete remission(p CR).High sensitivities(85.7%–88.1%) were observed across all four prediction methods while high specificities(81.5%–85.1%) were observed in two methods used PC.The optimal cut-off values defined by our data replicate the WHO and the RECIST criteria.Lower AUCs were observed when mid-treatment ABUS was used to predict poor pathological outcomes.Conclusions: ABUS is a useful tool in early evaluation of p CR after NAC while less reliable when predicting poor pathological outcomes.Xinguang Wang Ling Huo Yingjian He Zhaoqing Fan Tianfeng Wang Yuntao Xie Jinfeng Li Tao Ouyang 2016Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2016,28,5:11

5Cerebral vasculopathy in a Chinese family with neurofibromatosis type Ⅰ mutation显示文摘Neurofibromatosis type I(NF1)is a hereditary,autosomal dominant,neurocutaneous syndrome that is attributed to NF1 gene mutation.NF1 has been associated with scoliosis,macrocephaly,pseudoarthrosis,short stature,mental retardation,and malignancies.NF1-associated vasculopathy is an uncommon and easily-overlooked presentation.Examination of a Chinese family affected by NF1combined with cerebral vessel stenosis and/or abnormality suggested a possible relationship between NF1 and vessel stenosis.To determine which NF1 gene mutation is associated with vascular lesions,particularly cerebral vessel stenosis,we examined one rare family with combined cerebral vessel lesions or maldevelopment.Vascular lesions were detected using transcranial Doppler sonography and digital subtraction angiography in family members.Next,denaturing high-performance liquid chromatography and sequencing were used to screen for NF1 gene mutations.The results revealed a nonsense mutation,c.541C>T,in the NF1 gene.This mutation truncated the NF1 protein by 2659 aminoacid residues at the C-terminus and co-segregated with all of the patients,but was not present in unaffected individuals in the family.Exceptionally,three novel mutations were identified in unaffected family members,but these did not affect the product of the NF1 gene.Thus the nonsense mutation,c.541C>T,located in the NF1 gene could constitute one genetic factor for cerebral vessel lesions.Jian-Tao Liang Li-Rong Huo Yu-Hai Bao Zhen-Yu Wang Feng Ling 2013Neuroscience Bulletin2013,29,6:3

7Prediction of stable BC_(3)N_(2)monolayer from first-principles calculations:Stoichiometry,crystal structure,electronic and adsorption properties显示文摘In this paper,a novel BC_(3)N_(2)monolayer has been found with a graphene-like structure using the developed particle swarm optimization algorithm in combination with ab initio calculations.The predicted structure meets the thermodynamical,dynamical,and mechanical stability requirements.Interestingly,the BC_(3)N_(2)plane shows a metallic character.Importantly,BC_(3)N_(2)has an in-plane stiffness comparable to that of graphene.We have also investigated the adsorption characteristics of CO_(2)on pristine monolayer and Mo functionalized monolayer using density functional theory.Subsequently,electronic structures of the interacting systems(CO_(2)molecule and substrates)have been preliminarily explored.The results show that Mo/BC_(3)N_(2)has a stronger adsorption capacity towards CO_(2)comparing with the pristine one,which can provide a reference for the further study of the CO_(2)reduction mechanism on the transition metal-functionalized surface as well as the new catalyst’s design.Jiahui Yu Chaozheng He Chunying Pu Ling Fu Dawei Zhou Kun Xie Jinrong Huo Chenxu Zhao Lingmin Yu 2021Chinese Chemical Letters2021,32,10:2

9Study of the External Dose Rate and Retained Body Activity of Patients with Hyperthyroidism Who Are Receiving Ⅰ-131 Therapy显示文摘Hyperthyroidism refers to a clinical state that results from inappropriately high thyroid hormone levels in the tissues[1]. Ⅰ-131 therapy plays a critical role and provides a remarkable curative effect in targeting thyroid diseases. Thyroid cells can take up isotope Ⅰ-131, which emits not only beta rays but also gamma rays. Beta rays are used for killing thyroid cancer cells and for destroying a number of glandular tissues, which is a key in achieving treatment goals. However, gamma rays with strong ionizing radiation effects can cause radioactive contamination, which causes radiation hazard to other individuals who come into contact with patients. Radiation can induce carcinogenesis, such as leukemia and skin cancer. 10Association of assisted reproductive technology, germline de novo mutations and congenital heart defects in a prospective birth cohort study显示文摘Emerging evidence suggests that children conceived through assisted reproductive technology(ART)have a higher risk of congenital heart defects(CHDs)even when there is no family history.De novo mutation(DNM)is a well-known cause of sporadic congenital diseases;however,whether ART procedures increase the number of germline DNM(gDNM)has not yet been well studied.Here,we performed whole-genome sequencing of 1137 individuals from 160 families conceived through ART and 205 families conceived spontaneously.Children conceived via ART carried 4.59 more gDNMs than children conceived spontaneously,including 332 paternal and 1.26 maternal DNMs,after correcting for parental age at conception,cigarette smoking,alcohol drinking,and exercise behaviors.Paternal DNMs in offspring conceived via ART are characterized by C>T substitutions at CpG sites,which potentially affect protein-coding genes and are significantly associated with the increased risk of CHD.In addition,the accumulation of non-coding functional mutations was independently associated with CHD and 87.9% of the mutations were originated from the father.Among ART offspring,infertility of the father was associated with elevated paternal DNMs;usage of both recombinant and urinary follicle-stimulating hormone and high-dosage human chorionic gonadotropin trigger was associated with an increase of maternal DNMs.In sum,the increased gDNMs in offspring conceived by ART were primarily originated from fathers,indicating that ART itself may not be a major reason for the accumulation of gDNMs.Our findings emphasize the importance of evaluating the germline status of the fathers in families with the use of ART.Cheng Wang Hong Lv Xiufeng Ling Hong Li Feiyang Diao Juncheng Dai Jiangbo Du Ting Chen Qi Xi Yang Zhao Kun Zhou Bo Xu Xiumei Han Xiaoyu Liu Meijuan Peng Congcong Chen Shiyao Tao Lei Huang Cong Liu Mingyang Wen Yangqian Jiang Tao Jiang Chuncheng Lu Wei Wu Di Wu Minjian Chen Yuan Lin Xuejiang Guo Ran Huo Jiayin Liu Hongxia Ma Guangfu Jin Yankai Xia Jiahao Sha Hongbing Shen Zhibin Hu 2021Cell Research2021,31,8:2
11Characteristics of the macula in amblyopic eyes by optical coherence tomography显示文摘AIM: To test the hypothesis that amblyopic neuroretina may have an altered thickness when compared to the normal. · METHODS: Twenty-five amblyopic, young patients between the ages of 7 and 11 years old were studied. The interested neuroretina areas are defined into 10 sub-regions according to superior-inferior, nasal-temoral, and peri-para axis, which cross the fovela structure. The thicknesses of ten, defined macular regions were separately measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and analyzed by t-test. · RESULTS: The average thickness of neuroretina in the exact foveola of the amblyopic eyes is larger than that of normal eyes (P <0.05), but the other nine regions have no significant difference. Interestingly, in both the normal and amblyopic eyes, the temporal area looks thinner than other quadrants (P <0.05). · CONCLUSION: Thickness alteration may be associated with amblyopic disorders in young patients. 13Associative vs. dissociative mechanism: Electrocatalysis of nitric oxide to ammonia显示文摘Nitric oxide reduction to ammonia by electrocatalysis is the potential application in the elimination of smog and energy conversion. In this work, the feasibility of the application of two-dimensional metal borides(MBenes) in nitric oxide electroreduction reaction(NOER) was investigated through density functional theory calculations. Including the geometry and electronic structure of five kinds of MBenes, the adsorption of NO on the surface of these substrates, the selective adsorption of hydrogen protons during the hydrogenation process, and the overpotential in the electrocatalytic ammonia synthesis process. As a result, Mn B exhibited the most favorable catalytic performance according to the associative pathways,which is thermodynamically performed spontaneously, and WB has a minimum overpotential of 0.37 V vs. RHE in the process of ammonia production according to the dissociative pathway. Overall, our work is the first to explore the electrocatalytic NO through the dissociative mechanism to synthesize ammonia in-depth and proves that MBenes are efficient NO electrocatalytic ammonia synthesis catalysts.
