| 1 | Safety and efficacy of ultrasound ciliary plasty as a primary intervention in glaucoma patients显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the safety and the efficacy of the ultrasound ciliary plasty(UCP) on the intraocular pressure(IOP) control in glaucomatous eyes without previous glaucoma surgery.METHODS: A retrospective study included patients with primary and secondary glaucoma who underwent UCP in Dar Al Shifa Hospital, Kuwait between January 2017 to June 2018. High-intensity focused ultrasound procedures were performed under peribulbar anesthesia using the 2^(nd) generation probe with 8 s duration of each of the 6 shots. Complete ophthalmologic examinations were scheduled pre-treatment, and at 1 d, 1 wk, 1, 3, 6 and 12 mo posttreatment. Primary outcomes were the IOP reduction and success rates at 12 mo, while the secondary outcomes were the occurrence of vision threatening complications and visual acuity.RESULTS: The records of 62 eyes of 62 patients were analyzed with mean age of 63.8 y(67.7% males). There was statistically significant reduction in the mean IOP from 35.2±8.3 mm Hg before treatment to 20.6±8.7 mm Hg at 12^(th) month(P<0.0005) with a mean percentage IOP reduction of 42.3% with significant reduction in the mean number of antiglaucomatous drugs from 3.2±0.4 before treatment to 2.1±1.02 at 12 mo(P<0.0005). Qualified success was achieved in 77.4% of eyes at 12 mo. No major intra-or posttreatment complications were reported.CONCLUSION: Second-generation UCP prove to be effective in reducing IOP in naive glaucoma patients with lower success rates in cases of neovascular and uveitic glaucomas. | Magda A.Torky Yousif A Al Zafiri Sherein M.Hagras Abeer M.Khattab Rania M.Bassiouny Tharwat H.Mokbel | 2019 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2019,12,4: | 9 |
| 2 | Repurposed anti-cancer epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors: mechanisms of neuroprotective effects in Alzheimer’s disease显示文摘Numerous molecular mechanisms are being examined in an attempt to discover disease-modifying drugs to slow down the underlying neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease.Recent studies have shown the beneficial effects of epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors on the enhancement of behavioral and pathological sequelae in Alzheimer’s disease.Despite the promising effects of epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors in Alzheimer’s disease, there is no irrefutable neuroprotective evidence in well-established animal models using epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors due to many un-explored downstream signaling pathways. This caused controversy about the potential involvement of epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors in any prospective clinical trial. In this review, the mystery beyond the under-investigation of epidermal growth factor receptor in Alzheimer’s disease will be discussed.Furthermore, their molecular mechanisms in neurodegeneration will be explained. Also,we will shed light on SARS-COVID-19 induced neurological manifestations mediated by epidermal growth factor modulation. Finally,we will discuss future perspectives and under-examined epidermal growth factor receptor downstream signaling pathways that warrant more exploration. We conclude that epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors are novel effective therapeutic approaches that require further research in attempts to be repositioned in the delay of Alzheimer’s disease progression. | Heba M.Mansour Hala M.Fawzy Aiman S.El-Khatib Mahmoud M.Khattab | 2022 | Neural Regeneration Research2022,17,9: | 1 |
| 3 | A Hybrid Regularization-Based Multi-Frame Super-Resolution Using Bayesian Framework显示文摘The prime purpose for the image reconstruction of a multi-frame super-resolution is to reconstruct a higher-resolution image through incorporating the knowledge obtained from a series of relevant low-resolution images, which is useful in numerousfields.Nevertheless,super-resolution image reconstruction methods are usually damaged by undesirable restorative artifacts, which include blurring distortion, noises, and stair-casing effects.Consequently,it is always challenging to achieve balancing between image smoothness and preservation of the edges inside the image. In this research work,we seek to increase the effectiveness of multi-frame super-resolution image reconstruction by increasing the visual information and improving the automated machine perception, which improves human analysis and interpretation processes.Accordingly,we propose a new approach to the image reconstruction of multi-frame super-resolution,so that it is created through the use of the regularization framework. In the proposed approach, the bilateral edge preserving and bilateral total variation regularizations are employed to approximate a high-resolution image generated from a sequence of corresponding images with low-resolution to protect significant features of an image, including sharp image edges and texture details while preventing artifacts. The experimental results of the synthesized image demonstrate that the new proposed approach has improved efficacy both visually and numerically more than other approaches. | Mahmoud M.Khattab Akram M.Zeki Ali A.Alwan Belgacem Bouallegue Safaa S.Matter Abdelmoty M.Ahmed | 2023 | Computer Systems Science & Engineering2023,44,1: | 0 |
| 4 | A Secure Hardware Implementation for Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm显示文摘Since the end of the 1990s,cryptosystems implemented on smart cards have had to deal with two main categories of attacks:side-channel attacks and fault injection attacks.Countermeasures have been developed and validated against these two types of attacks, taking into account a well-defined attacker model. This work focuses on small vulnerabilities and countermeasures related to the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm(ECDSA)algorithm. The work done in this paper focuses on protecting the ECDSA algorithm against fault-injection attacks.More precisely,we are interested in the countermeasures of scalar multiplication in the body of the elliptic curves to protect against attacks concerning only a few bits of secret may be sufficient to recover the private key.ECDSA can be implemented in different ways,in software or via dedicated hardware or a mix of both. Many different architectures are therefore possible to implement an ECDSA-based system. For this reason, this work focuses mainly on the hardware implementation of the digital signature ECDSA.In addition, the proposed ECDSA architecture with and without fault detection for the scalar multiplication have been implemented on Xilinxfield programmable gate arrays(FPGA)platform(Virtex-5).Our implementation results have been compared and discussed. Our area, frequency, area overhead and frequency degradation have been compared and it is shown that the proposed architecture of ECDSA with fault detection for the scalar multiplication allows a trade-off between the hardware overhead and the security of the ECDSA. | Mouna Bedoui Belgacem Bouallegue Abdelmoty M.Ahmed Belgacem Hamdi Mohsen Machhout Mahmoud M.Khattab | 2023 | Computer Systems Science & Engineering2023,44,3: | 0 |
