| 1 | Cyclooxygenase-2 expression as a predictor of outcome in colorectal carcinoma显示文摘AIM:To correlate cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)expression profile with clinical and pathological variables to assess their prognostic/predictive value in colorectal carcinoma(CRC).METHODS:Archival tumor samples were analyzed using immunohistochemistry for COX-2 expression in 94 patients with CRC.Patients were diagnosed and treatedat the Departments of Surgery and Oncology,King Abdulaziz University Hospital,Saudi Arabia.RESULTS:Fifty-six percent of the tumors showed positive cytoplasmic COX-2 expression,whereas 44%of cases were completely COX-2-negative.There were no significant correlations between COX-2 expression and sex,age,grade or tumor location.However,COX-2 expression revealed a significant correlation with tumor stage(P=0.01)and distant metastasis(P=0.02),and a borderline association with lymph node involvement(P =0.07).Tumors with high COX-2 expression showed a higher recurrence rate than tumors with no expression(P<0.009).In univariate Kaplan-Meier survival analysis,there was a significant(P=0.026)difference in disease-free survival between COX-2-positive and negative tumors in favor of the latter.COX-2 expression did not significantly predict disease-specific survival,which was much shorter for COX-2-positive tumors.In multivariate(COX)models,COX-2 did not appear among the independent predictors of disease-free survival or disease-specific survival.CONCLUSION:COX-2 expression seems to provide useful prognostic information in CRC,while predicting the patients at high risk for recurrent disease. | Jaudah Al-Maghrabi Abdelbaset Buhmeida Eman Emam Kari Syrjnen Abdulrahman Sibiany Mohmmad Al-Qahtani Mahmoud Al-Ahwal | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,15: | 3 |

| 3 | Impact of biliary complications on quality of life in live-donor liver transplant recipients显示文摘BACKGROUND Despite significant advancements in liver transplantation(LT)surgical procedures and perioperative care,post-LT biliary complications(BCs)remain a significant source of morbidity,mortality,and graft failure.In addition,data are conflicting regarding the health-related quality of life(HRQoL)of LT recipients.Thus,the success of LT should be considered in terms of both the survival and recovery of HRQoL.AIM To assess the impact of BCs on the HRQoL of live-donor LT recipients(LDLT-Rs).METHODS We retrospectively analysed data for 25 LDLT-Rs who developed BCs post-LT between January 2011 and December 2016 at our institution.The Short Form 12 version 2(SF 12v2)health survey was used to assess their HRQoL.We also included 25 LDLT-Rs without any post-LT complications as a control group.RESULTS The scores for HRQoL of LDLT-Rs who developed BCs were significantly higher than the norm-based scores in the domains of physical functioning(P=0.003),role-physical(P<0.001),bodily pain(P=0.003),general health(P=0.004),social functioning(P=0.005),role-emotional(P<0.001),and mental health(P<0.001).No significant difference between the two groups regarding vitality was detected(P=1.000).The LDLT-Rs with BCs had significantly lower scores than LDLT-Rs without BCs in all HRQoL domains(P<0.001)and the mental(P<0.001)and physical(P=0.0002)component summary scores.CONCLUSION The development of BCs in LDLT-Rs causes a lower range of improvement in HRQoL. | Reginia Nabil Guirguis Ehab Hasan Nashaat Azza Emam Yassin Wesam Ahmed Ibrahim Shereen A Saleh Mohamed Bahaa Mahmoud El-Meteini Mohamed Fathy Hany Mansour Dabbous Iman Fawzy Montasser Manar Salah Ghada Abdelrahman Mohamed | 2021 | World Journal of Hepatology2021,13,10: | 1 |
| 4 | Biliary complications in recipients of living donor liver transplantation:A single-centre study显示文摘BACKGROUND Biliary complications(BCs)after liver transplantation(LT)remain a considerable cause of morbidity,mortality,increased cost,and graft loss.AIM To investigate the impact of BCs on chronic graft rejection,graft failure and mortality.METHODS From 2011 to 2016,215 adult recipients underwent right-lobe living-donor liver transplantation(RT-LDLT)at our centre.We excluded 46 recipients who met the exclusion criteria,and 169 recipients were included in the final analysis.Donors’and recipients’demographic data,clinical data,operative details and postoperative course information were collected.We also reviewed the management and outcomes of BCs.Recipients were followed for at least 12 mo post-LT until December 2017 or graft or patient loss.RESULTS The overall incidence rate of BCs including biliary leakage,biliary infection and biliary stricture was 57.4%.Twenty-seven(16%)patients experienced chronic graft rejection.Graft failure developed in 20(11.8%)patients.A total of 28(16.6%)deaths occurred during follow-up.BCs were a risk factor for the occurrence of chronic graft rejection and failure;however,mortality was determined by recurrent hepatitis C virus infection.CONCLUSION Biliary complications after RT-LDLT represent an independent risk factor for chronic graft rejection and graft failure;nonetheless,effective management of these complications can improve patient and graft survival. | Reginia Nabil Guirguis Ehab Hasan Nashaat Azza Emam Yassin Wesam Ahmed Ibrahim Shereen A Saleh Mohamed Bahaa Mahmoud El-Meteini Mohamed Fathy Hany Mansour Dabbous Iman Fawzy Montasser Manar Salah Ghada Abdelrahman Mohamed | 2021 | World Journal of Hepatology2021,13,12: | 1 |
| 5 | Detection of Copy-Scale-Move Forgery in Digital Images Using SFOP and MROGH显示文摘Social network platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook are one of the fastest and most convenient means for sharing digital images. Digital images are generally accepted as credible news but, it may undergo some manipulations before being shared without leaving any obvious traces of tampering; due to existence of the powerful image editing softwares. Copy-move forgery technique is a very simple and common type of image forgery, where a part of the image is copied and then pasted in the same image to replicate or hide some parts from the image. In this paper, we proposed a copy-scale-move forgery detection method based on Scale Invariant Feature Operator (SFOP) detector. The keypoints are then described using MROGH descriptor. | 6 | A Sketch-Based Generation Model for Diverse Ceramic Tile Images Using Generative Adversarial Network显示文摘Ceramic tiles are one of the most indispensable materials for interior decoration.The ceramic patterns can’t match the design requirements in terms of diversity and interactivity due to their natural textures.In this paper,we propose a sketch-based generation method for generating diverse ceramic tile images based on a hand-drawn sketches using Generative Adversarial Network(GAN).The generated tile images can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the user for the tile textures.The proposed method consists of four steps.Firstly,a dataset of ceramic tile images with diverse distributions is created and then pre-trained based on GAN.Secondly,for each ceramic tile image in the dataset,the corresponding sketch image is generated and then the mapping relationship between the images is trained based on a sketch extraction network using ResNet Block and jump connection to improve the quality of the generated sketches.Thirdly,the sketch style is redefined according to the characteristics of the ceramic tile images and then double cross-domain adversarial loss functions are employed to guide the ceramic tile generation network for fitting in the direction of the sketch style and to improve the training speed.Finally,we apply hidden space perturbation and interpolation for further enriching the output textures style and satisfying the concept of“one style with multiple faces”.We conduct the training process of the proposed generation network on 2583 ceramic tile images dataset.To measure the generative diversity and quality,we use Frechet Inception Distance(FID)and Blind/Referenceless Image Spatial Quality Evaluator(BRISQUE)metrics.The experimental results prove that the proposed model greatly enhances the generation results of the ceramic tile images,with FID of 32.47 and BRISQUE of 28.44. | Jianfeng Lu Xinyi Liu Mengtao Shi Chen Cui Mahmoud Emam | 2023 | Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing2023,37,9: | 0 |
| 7 | Polyketides with potential bioactivities from the mangrove‑derived fungus Talaromyces sp.WHUF0362显示文摘Metabolites of microorganisms have long been considered as potential sources for drug discovery.In this study,fve new depsidone derivatives,talaronins A-E(1-5)and three new xanthone derivatives,talaronins F-H(6-8),together with 16 known compounds(9-24),were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the mangrove-derived fungus Talaromyces species WHUF0362.The structures were elucidated by analysis of spectroscopic data and chemical methods including alkaline hydrolysis and Mosher’s method.Compounds 1 and 2 each attached a dimethyl acetal group at the aromatic ring.A putative biogenetic relationship of the isolated metabolites was presented and suggested that the depsidones and the xanthones probably had the same biosynthetic precursors such as chrysophanol or rheochrysidin.The antimicrobial activity assay indicated that compounds 5,9,10,and 14 showed potent activity against Helicobacter pylori with minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)values in the range of 2.42-36.04μmol/L.While secalonic acid D(19)demonstrated signifcant antimicrobial activity against four strains of H.pylori with MIC values in the range of 0.20 to 1.57μmol/L.Furthermore,secalonic acid D(19)exhibited cytotoxicity against cancer cell lines Bel-7402 and HCT-116 with IC_(50) values of 0.15 and 0.19μmol/L,respectively.The structure–activity relationship of depsidone derivatives revealed that the presence of the lactone ring and the hydroxyl at C-10 was crucial to the antimicrobial activity against H.pylori.The depsidone derivatives are promising leads to inhibit H.pylori and provide an avenue for further development of novel antibiotics. | Huawei Lv Haibo Su Yaxin Xue Jia Jia Hongkai Bi Shoubao Wang Jinkun Zhang Mengdi Zhu Mahmoud Emam Hong Wang Kui Hong Xing-Nuo Li | 2023 | Marine Life Science & Technology2023,5,2: | 0 |
