Stem cell therapy in the management of shoulder rotator cuff disorders显示文摘Rotator cuff tears are frequent shoulder problems that are usually dealt with surgical repair. Despite improved surgical techniques, the tendon-to-bone healing rate is unsatisfactory due to difficulties in restoring the delicate transitional tissue between bone and tendon. It is essential to understand the molecular mechanisms that determine this failure. The study of the molecular environment during embryogenesis and during normal healing after injury is key in devising strategies to get a successful repair. Mesenchymal stem cells(MSC) can differentiate into different mesodermal tissues and have a strong paracrine, anti-inflammatory, immunoregulatory and angiogenic potential. Stem cell therapy is thus a potentially effective therapy to enhance rotator cuff healing. Promising results have been reported with the use of autologous MSC of different origins in animal studies: they have shown to have better healing properties, increasing the amount of fibrocartilage formation and improving the orientation of fibrocartilage fibers with less immunologic response and reduced lymphocyte infiltration. All these changes lead to an increase in biomechanical strength. However, animal research is still inconclusive and more experimental studies are needed before human application. Future directions include expanded stem cell therapy in combination with growth factors or different scaffolds as well as new stem cell types and gene therapy.Maria Valencia Mora Miguel A Ruiz Ibán Jorge Díaz Heredia Raul Barco Laakso Ricardo Cuéllar Mariano García Arranz 2015World Journal of Stem Cells2015,7,4:6
Effective use of FibroTest to generate decision trees in hepatitis C显示文摘AIM:To assess the usefulness of FibroTest to forecast scores by constructing decision trees in patients with chronic hepatitis C.METHODS:We used the C4.5 classification algorithm to construct decision trees with data from 261 patients with chronic hepatitis C without a liver biopsy. The FibroTest attributes of age,gender,bilirubin,apolipoprotein,haptoglobin,α2 macroglobulin, and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase were used as predictors, and the FibroTest score as the target. For testing,a 10-fold cross validation was used.RESULTS:The overall classification error was 14.9%(accuracy 85.1%).FibroTest's cases with true scores of F0 and F4 were classified with very high accuracy(18/20 for F0,9/9 for F0-1 and 92/96 for F4) and the largest confusion centered on F3.The algorithm produced a set of compound rules out of the ten classification trees and was used to classify the 261 patients. The rules for the classification of patients in F0 and F4 were effective in more than 75% of the cases in which they were tested.CONCLUSION:The recognition of clinical subgroups should help to enhance our ability to assess differences in fibrosis scores in clinical studies and improve our understanding of fibrosis progression.Dana Lau-Corona Luís Alberto Pineda Héctor Hugo Avilés Gabriela Gutiérrez-Reyes Blanca Eugenia Farfan-Labonne Rafael Núez-Nateras Alan Bonder Rosalinda Martínez-García Clara Corona-Lau Marco Antonio Olivera-Martínez Maria Concepción Gutiérrez-Ruiz Guillermo Robles-Díaz David Kershenobich 2009World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,21:2

Turbo-taxonomy to assemble a megadiverse lichen genus:seventy new species of Cora(Basidiomycota:Agaricales:Hygrophoraceae),honouring David Leslie Hawksworth’s seventieth birthday显示文摘Following a large-scale phylogenetic study of the lichenized genus Cora(Basidiomycota:Agaricales:Hygrophoraceae),we formally describe 70 new species, honouring the seventieth birthday of David Leslie Hawksworth, one of the preeminent figures in mycology and lichenology in the past 50 years.Based on an updated phylogeny using the ITS fungal barcoding locus,we now recognize 189 taxa in a genus that until recently was considered to represent a single species;including this contribution,92 of these are formally recognized, including five taxa based on historical names or collections that have not been sequenced.Species of Cora can be recognized by a combination of morphological(size, colour, lobe configuration, surface hairs, hymenophore size and shape),anatomical(thallus thickness, cortex structure, photobiont type, hyphal papillae),and ecogeographical features(substrate, habitat, distribution),and a keytable allowing the identification of all accepted taxa is provided. The new species 16A High-Performance Solid-State Na–CO_(2)Battery with Poly(Vinylidene Fluoride-co-Hexafluoropropylene)−Na_(3.2)Zr_(1.9)Mg_(0.1)Si_(2)PO_(12)Electrolyte显示文摘The recovery and utilization of carbon dioxide(CO_(2))is the key to achieve the targets of peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality. The Na-CO_(2)battery made with cheap alkali metal sodium and greenhouse gas CO_(2)is an effective strategy to consume CO_(2)and store clean renewable energy. However, the liquid electrolyte volatilization in the open battery system and inevitable dendrite growth restrict the application of Na-CO_(2)batteries.In this work,magnesium-doped Na_(3)Zr_(2)Si_(2)PO_(12)(NZSP)was studied as a solid electrolyte for solid-state Na-CO_(2)batteries.The ionic conductivity of Na_(3.2)Zr_(1.9)Mg_(0.1)Si_(2)PO_(12)reaches 1.16 mS cm^(−1)at room temperature by replacing Zr ions in Na_(3.2)Zr_(1.9)Mg_(0.1)Si_(2)PO_(12)with Mg ions, and the structural changes are analyzed by neutron powder diffraction. The composite electrolyte consisting of highly conductive Na_(3.2)Zr_(1.9)Mg_(0.1)Si_(2)PO_(12)and high processability poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene)(PVDF-HFP)is utilized for the first time to assemble a solid-state Na-CO_(2)battery.The cell shows a full discharge capacity of 7720 mAh g^(−1)at 200 mA g^(−1).The middle gap voltage is lower than 2 V after 120 cycles at 200 mA g^(−1)and at a cut-off capacity of 500 mAh g^(−1).This work demonstrates a promising strategy to design high-performance solid-state Na-CO_(2)batteries.Liang Lu Chunwen Sun Jian Hao Zelin Wang Sergio F.Mayer Maria Teresa Fernandez-Diıaz Jose Antonio Alonso Bingsuo Zou 2023Energy & Environmental Materials2023,6,3:0
Ni-based catalysts obtained from perovskites oxides for ethanol steam reforming显示文摘Perovskites as host structures of cations were used in order to generate in situ active and stable catalysts for ethanol steam reforming. For this purpose,La_(1-x)Mg_xAl_(1-y)Ni_yO_3(x = 0.1; y = 0,0.1,0.2,0.3) perovskites were synthetized by the citrate method.Ni segregation is evident for a substitution level higher than 0. 2. The segregation of Ni as NiO generated species interacts with different metal-support after the reduction step. The y = 0.1 catalyst presents the highest H_2 yield value about 85% during reaction time, with low mean values of CH_4 and CO selectivities of 3.4% and 11%,respectively and a low carbon formation. The better performance of y = 0.1 catalyst could be attributed to the minor proportion of segregated phases, thus a controlled expulsion of Ni is successfully reached.Fabiola Nerina Agüero Jose Antonio Alonso Maria Teresa Fernández-Díaz Luis Eduardo Cadus 2018燃料化学学报2018,46,11:0
Crop phenotyping in a context of global change:What to measure and how to do it显示文摘High-throughput crop phenotyping, particularly under field conditions,is nowadays perceived as a key factor limiting crop genetic advance.Phenotyping not only facilitates conventional breeding, but it is necessary to fully exploit the capabilities of molecular breeding, and it can be exploited to predict breeding targets for the years ahead at the regional level through more advanced simulation models and decision support systems. In terms of phenotyping,it is necessary to determined which selection traits are relevant in each situation, and which phenotyping tools/methods are available to assess such traits.Remote sensing methodologies are currently the most popular approaches, even when lab-based analyses are still relevant in many circumstances. On top of that, data processing and automation, together with machine learning/deep learning are contributing to the wide range of applications for phenotyping. This review addresses spectral and red-green-blue sensing as the most popular remote sensing approaches, alongside stable isotope composition as an example of a lab-based tool, and root phenotyping, which represents one of the frontiers for field phenotyping.Further,we consider the two most promising forms of aerial platforms(unmanned aerial vehicle and satellites)and some of the emerging data-processing techniques. The review includes three Boxes that examine specific case studies.Jose Luis Araus Shawn Carlisle Kefauver Omar Vergara-Díaz Adrian Gracia-Romero Fatima Zahra Rezzouk Joel Segarra Maria Luisa Buchaillot Melissa Chang-Espino Thomas Vatter Rut Sanchez-Bragado JoséArmando Fernandez-Gallego Maria Dolores Serret Jordi Bort 2022Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2022,64,2:0
Polymorphism AGT2(rs4762)is involved in the development of dermatologic events:Proof-of-concept in hepatocellular carcinoma patients treated with sorafenib显示文摘BACKGROUND Dermatologic adverse events(DAEs)are associated with a better outcome in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)irrespective of the therapeutic agent received. The exact mechanisms associated with the development of DAEs are unknown although several studies point to direct toxicity of tyrosine kinase inhibitors(TKIs)to the skin or an immune-mediated reaction triggered by the oncologic treatment. As is the case in other conditions, individual genetic variants may partially explain a higher risk of DAEs.AIM To evaluate the contribution of several gene variants to the risk of developing DAEs in HCC patients treated with TKIs.METHODS We first analyzed 27 single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)from 12 genes selected as potential predictors of adverse event(AE)development in HCC patients treated with sorafenib[Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer 1(BCLC1)cohort].Three additional cohorts were analyzed for AGT1(rs699)and AGT2(rs4762)polymorphisms-initially identified as predictors of DAEs:BCLC2(n=79),Northern Italy(n=221)and Naples(n=69)cohorts,respectively.The relation between SNPs and DAEs and death were assessed by univariate and multivariate Cox regression models, and presented with hazard ratios and their 95%confidence intervals(95%CI).RESULTS The BCLC1 cohort showed that patients with arterial hypertension(AHT)(HR=1.61;P value=0.007)and/or AGT SNPs had an increased risk of DAEs.Thereafter,AGT2(rs4762)AA genotype was found to be linked to a statistically significant increased probability of DAEs(HR=5.97;P value=0.0201,AA vs GG)in the Northern Italy cohort by multivariate analysis adjusted for BCLC stage,ECOG-PS,diabetes and AHT.The value of this genetic marker was externally validated in the cohort combining the BCLC1,BCLC2 and Naples cohorts[HR=3.12(95%CI:1.2-8.14),P value=0.0199,AGT2(rs4762)AA vs AG genotype and HR=2.73(95%CI:1.18-6.32)P value=0.0188,AGT2(rs4762)AA vs GG genotype].None of the other gene variants tested were found to be associated with the risk of DAE development.CONCLUSION DAE development in HCC patients receiving TKIs could be explained by the AGT2(rs4762)gene variant. If validated in other anti-oncogenic treatments,it might be considered a good prognosis marker.Víctor Sapena Massimo Iavarone Loreto Boix Floriana Facchetti Maria Guarino Marco Sanduzzi Zamparelli Alessandro Granito Esther Samper Mario Scartozzi Josep Corominas Giorgia Marisi Alba Díaz Andrea Casadei-Gardini Laura Gramantieri Pietro Lampertico Filomena Morisco Ferran Torres Jordi Bruix María Reig 2022World Journal of Hepatology2022,14,7:0
