1Where does chemotherapy stands in the treatment of ampullary carcinoma? A review of literature显示文摘Ampullary carcinoma(AC) is a rare gastrointestinal tumor without clear treatment recommendations.The management of this tumor is usually extrapolated from the treatment of pancreatic,biliary duct and intestinal cancers.Few papers have studied the AC as an independent entity and yet succombs to several limitations.These studies were retrospective single institutional experiences with limited sample sizes recruited over a long period of time.Unlike metastatic ACs where chemotherapy is the only recommended option,localized AC once excised may be approached by either chemotherapy alone or concomitant chemoradiation therapy.In this review,we report the overall survival and recurrence factors of more than 1000 patients from all the studies treating exclusively ACs.We also review the medical treatment of this tumor and conclude to the necessity of multi-institutional randomized controlled studies for AC exclusively.Marwan Ghosn Hampig Raphael Kourie Elie El Rassy Fady Ghassan Haddad Colette Hanna Fadi El Karak Dolly Nasr 2016World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2016,8,10:2

4Evaluation of gradual hydroponic system for decentralized wastewater treatment and reuse in rural areas of Palestine显示文摘A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance of a gradual multi-stage vertical flow hydroponic system as an option for decentralized wastewater treatment and reuse.The low cost of such option and the ease of its application make it feasible for rural areas where low cost decentralized options of wastewater treatment and reuse have a great potential in improving environmental and economic conditions in these areas.To evaluate the performance of such option,a five-stage vertical flow gradual hydroponic pot experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in the new campus of An-Najah National University.The experiment included five types of plants:two types of corn,barely,alfalfa,and sunflowers.Wastewater flow was applied through a drip system for the five types of plants.Wastewater was drained by gravity from one pot to the next through a gradual vertical flow hydroponic system.Quality of wastewater entering the first pot and leaving the last pot for each set of plants was monitored throughout the growing season.Results showed an over 90%removal efficiency of soluble organics and suspended solids,and about 60%removal efficiency of nitrogen through the system.The proposed gradual hydroponic treatment system was proved to be a successful alternative method to treat and reuse wastewater.Thus,gradual hydroponic systems could be successfully used as small decentralized wastewater treatment systems.This system could be used in producing crops with economic returns in Palestinian rural areas,where agriculture has a significant contribution in the income and employment of communities.Marwan Haddad Numan Mizyed Majd Masoud 2012International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2012,5,4:0

6Dedicated Magnetic Resonance Imaging Sequences:Contribution in the Diagnosis of Focal Epilepsy in the Lebanese Population显示文摘There have been many advances in the diagnosis and management of focal epilepsies particularly with neuroimaging techniques and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).Special MRI sequences can be employed to localize and resect the epileptogenic lesions responsible for focal epilepsy.This study aims to show the benefit of dedicated epilepsy MRI sequences in the diagnosis of focal epilepsies.A general electric 1.5 Tesla MRI machine was used with standard and special sequences.Also,a Nihon Kohden electroencephalography(EEG)machine was used.This is a prospective observational study that included 51 patients with focal epilepsies who had an initial negative brain imaging.They underwent epilepsy MRI sequences along with a prolonged video EEG monitoring to localize the lesion,and then results were analyzed statistically using SPSS 22 program.The majority of patients were males(62.75%)with a mean age of 30 years.The grand majority of patients(74.5%,p value of 0.001)had their lesion localized by the epilepsy MRI.The most commonly found pathology was mesial temporal sclerosis.A significant number of patients(23.5%)were sent for an epilepsy surgery(p value 0.002).This study shows the significant impact of dedicated epilepsy MRI sequences on the diagnosis and management of focal epilepsy in the Lebanese population.Najo A.Jomaa Marwan Haddad Grace Y.Adwane Amira J.Zaylaa Abdallah Rahbani 2018Journal of Health Science2018,6,6:0
