| 1 | Source identification, contamination status and health risk assessment of heavy metals from road dusts in Dhaka, Bangladesh显示文摘In this study, concentrations of Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb were determined in road dusts collected from different locations in Dhaka to assess source, contamination status and health risk. Energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy were used to determine Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb and their mean concentrations were 162.27 ± 29.46, 721.18 ± 180.14, 35.65 ± 12.55, 104.56 ± 128.33, 515.32 ± 321.90,BDL, and 342.82 ± 591.20 mg/kg, respectively. Among the heavy metals, highest concentrations of Cu, Zn and Pb were found at urban sites-7(municipal waste dumping) and 8(medical waste incineration). Highest concentration of Cr followed by Cu and Zn was found at site-5(Tejgaon, urban). Principal component analysis revealed that anthropogenic activities are the potential sources for Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn and Pb while earth crust for Mn. Pollution index and pollution load index results suggested that all the sites were contaminated and/or degraded by Cr, Cu, Zn and Pb except sites-9(urban), 10(sub-urban), 11(rural) while sites-7 and 8(urban) were extremely degraded. For noncarcinogenic health risk, hazard quotient values for dermal were higher compared to that of inhalation/ingestion. Though hazard index values were less than 1 at all the sites, these were at least one order of magnitude higher for children group than that of adult group, thus the children group may face more noncarcinogenic health risk at sites -7 and 8. | 15 | Allelopathic Potential of Three Oil Enriched Plants against Seedling Growth of Common Field Crops显示文摘Current study aims to investigate the allelopathic potential of the differentparts (leaf, bark, stem, twig and root) of three oil-enrich plant species ofBangladesh viz., Jatropha curcus, Ricinus communis and Aphanamixispolystachya. The aqueous extract of those plant parts were diluted intofour different concentrations viz., 1:5, 1:10, 1:15, 1:20 (w/v) and testedagainst the seedling growth of jute, rice, wheat, radish, tomato, mungbeanand mustard under control laboratory condition. A control (distilled waterwithout extract) was also maintained in every cases and the bioassayexperiment was replicated thrice. The results of this research showed thatthe shoot and root growth inhibition of rice, wheat, jute, tomato, radish,mungbean and mustard by leaf, bark, stem, twig and root extracts of J.curcus, R. communis and A. polystachya varied significantly. Compareto the shoot growth, the root growth of the test species inhibited moreexcept J. curcus. The leaf and root have higher allelopathic potential thanany other parts of the studied plants. Finally, it can be concluded here thatJ. curcus plant extracts has higher allelopathic potential than other twoplants R. communis and A. polystachya. | 16 | Mechanical and thermodynamical stability of BiVO4 polymorphs using first-principles study显示文摘First principles calculations of structural, electronic, mechanical, and thermodynamic properties of different polymorphs of BiVO_4 are performed using Bender-type plane/wave ultrasoft pseudopotentials within the generalized gradient approximation(GGA) in the frame of density functional theory(DFT). The calculated structural and electronic properties are consistent with the previous theoretical and experimental results. The electronic structures reveal that m-BiVO_4, opBiVO_4, and st-BiVO_4 have indirect band gaps, on the other hand, zt-BiVO_4 has a direct band gap. From the DOS and Mulliken's charge analysis, it is observed that only m-BiVO_4 has 6s^2Bi lone pair. Bond population analysis indicates that st-BiVO_4 shows a more ionic nature and a similar result is obtained from the elastic properties. From the elastic properties, it is observed that st-BiVO_4 is more mechanically stable than the others. st-BiVO_4 is more ductile and useful for high electro-optical and electro-mechanical coupling devices.
