| 1 | A Simulator for Producing of High Flux Atomic Oxygen Beam by Using ECR Plasma Source显示文摘In order to study the atomic oxygen corrosion of spacecraft materials in low earth orbit environment, an atomic oxygen simulator was established. In the simulator, a 2.45 GHz microwave source with maximum power of 600 W was launched into the circular cavity to generate ECR (electron cyclotron resonance) plasma. The oxygen ion beam moved onto a negatively biased Mo plate under the condition of symmetry magnetic mirror field confine, then was neutralized and reflected to form oxygen atom beam. The properties of plasma density, electron temperature, plasma space potential and ion incident energy were characterized. The atomic oxygen beam flux was calibrated by measuring the mass loss rate of Kapton during the atomic 5~30 eV and a cross section of φ80 mm could be obtained under the operating pressure of 10-1~10-3 Pa. | 2 | Synthesis,Microstructure,and Property of Cr_2AlC显示文摘Cr_2AlC is an unusual layered ternary ceramic that combines the merits of both metals and ceramics.The salient properties of Cr_2AlC are strongly related to its bonding characteristics and microstructures.Synthesis, microstructure,and property of Cr_2AlC are reviewed in this paper.First,theoretical calculations and physical properties are introduced.Then,the processing of Cr_2AlC ceramic in both bulk form and thin films and their basic mechanical properties are summarized.Atomic-scale characterizations of Cr_2AlC,as well as the microstructural relationships among Cr_2AlC,Al_8Cr_5,and AlCr_2 were achieved using a series of transmission electron microscopy(TEM)techniques.Moreover,high-temperature oxidation and hot corrosion behaviors of Cr_2AlC were investigated by means of thermogravimetric analysis,X-ray diffraction,Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy,and TEM.Mechanism of the excellent high-temperature corrosion resistance of Cr_2AlC is discussed based on systematic microstructural analyses.Finally,concise conclusions are drawn. | Zhijun LIN Yanchun ZHOU Meishuan LI | 2007 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2007,23,6: | 5 |
| 3 | Deposition of Phase-pure Cr2AlC Coating by DC Magnetron Sputtering and Post Annealing Using Cr-Al-C Targets with Controlled Elemental Composition but Different Phase Compositions显示文摘Polycrystalline Cr_2AlC coatings were prepared on M38G superalloy using a two-step method consisting of magnetron sputtering from Cr-Al-C composite targets at room temperature and subsequent annealing at 620°C. Particularly, various targets synthesized by hot pressing mixture of Cr, Al, and C powders at 650–1000°C were used. It was found that regardless of the phase compositions and density of the composite targets, when the molar ratio of Cr:Al:C in the starting materials was 2:1:1, phase-pure crystalline Cr_2AlC coatings were prepared by magnetron sputtering and post crystallization. The Cr_2AlC coatings were dense and crack-free and had a duplex structure. | 4 | Effects of High Temperature Oxidation on Mechanical Properties of Ti_3AlC_2显示文摘The oxidation tests of Ti_3AlC_2 were conducted at 1100 and 1200?C in air for 48 and 360 h, respectively,and the effects of high temperature oxidation on the flexural strength and hardness of Ti_3AlC_2 were investigated. The microstructure, grain size and phase compositions of Ti_3AlC_2 substrate didn't change after oxidation, hence the oxide removed Ti_3AlC_2 substrate maintained its initial flexural strength and hardness. However, the flexural strength of oxide retained Ti_3AlC_2 decreased by about 5%. Acoustic emission monitoring indicated that during the process of three-point bending test, the formed Al_2O_3 scale on Ti_3AlC_2 surface fractured firstly in a cleavage manner, then the substrate/oxide interface cracked,and finally the Ti_3AlC_2 substrate fractured. The mechanical degradation was caused by the preferential formation of cracks in brittle Al_2O_3 scale as well as at defective and lacunose grain boundaries of the substrate where stress concentration generated. The mechanical degradation was insensitive to oxidation temperature and time in the present conditions. | 5 | TEM Investigations on Layered Ternary Ceramics显示文摘Layered ternary ceramics represent a new class of solids that combine the merits of both metals and ceramics. These unique properties are strongly related to their layered crystal structures and microstructures. The combination of atomic-resolution Z-contrast scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), convergent beam electron diffraction (CBED) represents a powerful method to link microstructures of materials to macroscopic properties, allowing layered ternary ceramics to be investigated in an unprecedented detail. Microstructural information obtained using TEM is useful in understanding the formation mechanism, layered stacking characteristics, and defect structures for layered ternary ceramics down to atomic-scale level; and thus provides insight into understanding the 'Processing-Structure-Property' relationship of layered ternary ceramics. | 7 | Porous Y_2SiO_5 Ceramic with Low Thermal Conductivity显示文摘Porous Y2SiO5 ceramic was fabricated by freeze casting with tert-butyl alcohol as solvent. The porous Y2SiO5 ceramic possessed long straight pore structure. With decreasing solid loading from 20 to 10 vol.%, the porosity of the Y2SiO5 ceramic increased linearly from 45% to 72%, while the compressive strength declined from 23.2 to 3.1MPa. | 13 | Oxidation Behaviors of C-ZrB_2-SiC Composite at 2100℃ in Air and O_2显示文摘The oxidation behaviors of graphite and ZrB_2-SiC modified graphite composite were investigated at 2100℃ in1X105 Pa air and 0.2X105 Pa O2. The oxidation tests were conducted in an induction heating furnace. The oxidation of these two materials followed the linear rate law. The determined radius loss rates of graphite and C-ZrB_2-Si C at 2100℃ were 2.18X10-2and 1.05X10-2%/s in 1X105 Pa air, and 3.23X10 2 and 2.21X10 2%/s in 0.2X105 Pa O2, respectively. The incorporation of ZrB2 and SiC decreased remarkably the oxidation rate of graphite because the oxide scale formed on the sample surface during oxidation helps in reducing the exposed surface area of the underneath substrate. In two different atmospheres with the same oxygen partial pressure, both graphite and ZrB_2-SiC experienced more severe oxidation at 2100℃ in0.2X105 Pa O2than in 1X105 Pa air. The oxidation rate-controlling step for graphite and ZrB_2-SiC was proposed to be the inward diffusion of oxygen through the boundary layer and through the pores in the oxide scale, respectively.
