1Internet of Things for the Future of Smart Agriculture: A Comprehensive Survey of Emerging Technologies显示文摘This paper presents a comprehensive review of emerging technologies for the internet of things(IoT)-based smart agriculture.We begin by summarizing the existing surveys and describing emergent technologies for the agricultural IoT,such as unmanned aerial vehicles,wireless technologies,open-source IoT platforms,software defined networking(SDN),network function virtualization(NFV)technologies,cloud/fog computing,and middleware platforms.We also provide a classification of IoT applications for smart agriculture into seven categories:including smart monitoring,smart water management,agrochemicals applications,disease management,smart harvesting,supply chain management,and smart agricultural practices.Moreover,we provide a taxonomy and a side-by-side comparison of the state-ofthe-art methods toward supply chain management based on the blockchain technology for agricultural IoTs.Furthermore,we present real projects that use most of the aforementioned technologies,which demonstrate their great performance in the field of smart agriculture.Finally,we highlight open research challenges and discuss possible future research directions for agricultural IoTs.Othmane Friha Mohamed Amine Ferrag Lei Shu Leandros Maglaras Xiaochan Wang 2021IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica2021,8,4:15
2Relationship between vitamin D and IL-23,IL-17 and macrophage chemoattractant protein-1 as markers of fibrosis in hepatitis C virus Egyptians显示文摘AIM:To assess vitamin D in hepatitis C patients and its relationship to interleukin (IL)-23, IL-17, and macrophage chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1). METHODS:The study was conducted on 50 Egyptian hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype number IV-infected patients and 25 ageand gender-matched healthy subjects. Venous blood samples were obtained. Samples were allowed to clot and sera were separated by centrifugation and stored at -20 ℃. A 25 hydroxy vitamin D assay was carried out using solid phase RIA. A 1,25 dihydroxy vitamin D assay was carried out using a commercial kit purchased from Incstar Corporation. IL-17 and -23 and MCP-1 were assayed by an enzyme immunoassay. Quantitative and qualitative polymerase chain reaction for HCV virus were done by TaqMan technology. Only HCV genotype IV-infected subjectswere included in the study. The mean ± SD were determined, a t-test for comparison of means of different parameters was used. Correlation analysis was done using Pearson's correlation. Differences among different groups were determined using the Kruskal-Wallis test. RESULTS:The mean vitamin D level in HCV patients (groupⅠ) was 15 ± 5.2 ng/mL while in control (group Ⅱ) was 39.7 ± 10.8. For active vitamin D in groupⅠas 16.6 ± 4.8 ng/mL while in group Ⅱ was 41.9 ± 7.9. IL-23 was 154 ± 97.8 in group Ⅰ and 6.7 ± 2.17 in group Ⅱ. IL-17 was 70.7 ± 72.5 in cases and 1.2 ± 0.4 in control. MCP-1 was 1582 ± 794.4 in group Ⅰand 216.1 ± 5.38 in group Ⅱ. Vitamin D deficiency affected 72% of HCV-infected patients and 0% of the control group. Vitamin D insufficiency existed in 28% of HCV-in-fected patients and 12% of the control group. One hundred percent of the cirrhotic patients and 40% of non cirrhotic HCV-infected patients had vitamin D deficiency. IL-23, IL-17, and MCP-1 were markedly increased in HCV-infected patients in comparison to controls.A significant negative correlation between vitamin D and IL-17 and-23 and MCP-1 was detected. HCV-infected males and females showed no differences with respect to viral load, vitamin D levels, IL-17, IL-23 and MCP-1. The viral load was negatively correlated with vitamin D and active vitamin D (P = 0.0001 and P = 0.001, respectively), while positively correlated with IL-23, IL-17, and MCP-1. We classified the patients according to sonar findings into four groups. Group Ⅰa with bright hepatomegaly and included 14 patients. Group Ⅰb with perihepatic fibrosis and included 11 patients. Group Ⅰc with liver cirrhosis and included 11 patients. Group Ⅰd with he patocellular carcinoma (HCC) and included 14 patients. Vitamin D and active vitamin D were shown to be lower in cirrhotic patients and much lower in patients with HCC, and this difference was highly significant (P = 0.0001). 3Vitamin D deficiency: Correlation to interleukin-17, interleukin-23 and PⅢNP in hepatitis C virus genotype 4显示文摘AIM: To assess vitamin D (Vit D) abnormalities in hepatitis C infected patients and their relationship with interleukin (IL)-17, IL-23 and N-terminal propeptide of type Ⅲ pro-collagen (PⅢNP) as immune response mediators. METHODS: The study was conducted on 50 Egyptian patients (36 male, 14 female) with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, who visited the Hepatology Outpatient Clinic in the Endemic Disease Hospital at Cairo University. Patients were compared with 25 ageand sexmatched healthy individuals. Inclusion criteria were based on a history of liver disease with HCV genotype 4 (HCV-4) infection (as new patients or under followup). Based on ultrasonography, patients were classified into four subgroups; 14 with bright hepatomegaly; 11 with perihepatic fibrosis; 11 with hepatic cirrhosis; and 14 with cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Total Vit D (i.e., 25-OH-Vit D) and active Vit D [i.e., 1,25-(OH) 2 -Vit D] assays were carried out using commercial kits. IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP levels were assayed using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay kits, while HCV virus was measured by quantitative and qualitative polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: Levels of Vit D and its active form were significantly lower in advanced liver disease (hepatic cirrhosis and/or carcinoma) patients, compared to those with bright hepatomegaly and perihepatic fibrosis. IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP levels were markedly increased in HCV patients and correlated with the progression of hepatic damage. The decrease in Vit D and active Vit D was concomitant with an increase in viral load, as well as levels of IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP among all subgroups of HCV-infected patients, compared to normal healthy controls. A significant negative correlation was evident between active Vit D and each of IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP (r = -0.679, -0.801 and -0.920 at P < 0.001, respectively). HCV-infected men and women showed no differences with respect to Vit D levels. The viral load was negatively correlated with Vit D and active Vit D (r = -0.084 and -0.846 at P < 0.001, respectively), and positively correlated with IL-17, IL-23 and PⅢNP (r = 0.951, 0.922 and 0.94 at P < 0.001, respectively). Whether the deficiency in Vit D was related to HCVinduced chronic liver disease or was a predisposing factor for a higher viral load remains to be elucidated. 5Hypoxia inducible factor-1αaccumulation in steatotic liver preservation:Role of nitric oxide显示文摘AIM:To examine the relevance of hypoxia inducible factor(HIF-1)and nitric oxide(NO)on the preservation of fatty liver against cold ischemia-reperfusion injury(IRI). METHODS:We used an isolated perfused rat liver model and we evaluated HIF-1αin steatotic and non-steatotic livers preserved for 24 h at 4℃in University of Wisconsin and IGL-1 solutions,and then subjected to 2 h of normothermic reperfusion.After normoxic reperfusion,liver enzymes,bile production,bromosulfophthalein clearance,as well as HIF-1αand NO[endothelial NO synthase(eNOS)activity and nitrites/nitrates]were also measured.Other factors associated with the higher susceptibility of steatotic livers to IRI,such as mitochondrial damage and vascular resistance were evaluated. RESULTS:A significant increase in HIF-1αwas found in steatotic and non-steatotic livers preserved in IGL-1 after cold storage.Livers preserved in IGL-1 showed a significant attenuation of liver injury and improvement in liver function parameters.These benefits were enhanced by the addition of trimetazidine(an antiischemic drug),which induces NO and eNOS activation, to IGL-1 solution.In normoxic reperfusion,the presence of NO favors HIF-1αaccumulation,promoting also the activation of other cytoprotective genes,such as hemeoxygenase-1. 6How to protect liver graft with nitric oxide显示文摘Organ preservation and ischemia reperfusion injury as- sociated with liver transplantation play an important role in the induction of graft injury. One of the earliest events associated with the reperfusion injury is en- dothelial cell dysfunction. It is generally accepted that endothelial nitric oxide synthase (e-NOS) is cell-pro- tective by mediating vasodilatation, whereas inducible nitric oxide synthase mediates liver graft injury after transplantation. We conducted a critical review of the literature evaluating the potential applications of regu- lating and promoting e-NOS activity in liver preservation and transplantation, showing the most current evidenceto support the concept that enhanced bioavailability of NO derived from e-NOS is detrimental to ameliorate graft liver preservation, as well as preventing subse- quent graft reperfusion injury. This review deals mainly with the beneficial effects of promoting 'endogenous' pathways for NO generation, via e-NOS inducer drugs in cold preservation solution, surgical strategies such as ischemic preconditioning, and alternative 'exogenous' pathways that focus on the enrichment of cold storage liquid with NO donors. Finally, we also provide a basic bench-to-bed side summary of the liver physiology and cell signalling mechanisms that account for explaining the e-NOS protective effects in liver preservation and transplantation. ? 2011 Baishideng. 7A Survey on Smart Agriculture:Development Modes,Technologies,and Security and Privacy Challenges显示文摘With the deep combination of both modern information technology and traditional agriculture,the era of agriculture 4.0,which takes the form of smart agriculture,has come.Smart agriculture provides solutions for agricultural intelligence and automation.However,information security issues cannot be ignored with the development of agriculture brought by modern information technology.In this paper,three typical development modes of smart agriculture(precision agriculture,facility agriculture,and order agriculture)are presented.Then,7 key technologies and 11 key applications are derived from the above modes.Based on the above technologies and applications,6 security and privacy countermeasures(authentication and access control,privacy-preserving,blockchain-based solutions for data integrity,cryptography and key management,physical countermeasures,and intrusion detection systems)are summarized and discussed.Moreover,the security challenges of smart agriculture are analyzed and organized into two aspects:1)agricultural production,and 2)information technology.Most current research projects have not taken agricultural equipment as potential security threats.Therefore,we did some additional experiments based on solar insecticidal lamps Internet of Things,and the results indicate that agricultural equipment has an impact on agricultural security.Finally,more technologies(5 G communication,fog computing,Internet of Everything,renewable energy management system,software defined network,virtual reality,augmented reality,and cyber security datasets for smart agriculture)are described as the future research directions of smart agriculture.Xing Yang Lei Shu Jianing Chen Mohamed Amine Ferrag Jun Wu Edmond Nurellari Kai Huang 2021IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica2021,8,2:8
8Pathological,immunohistochemical and microbiologicalal analysis of lacrimal sac biopsies in patients with chronic dacrocystitis显示文摘AIM:To analyze cases of obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct which creates a fertile environment for secondary bacterial Infection and can result in dacryocystitis,which is a constant threat to cornea and orbital soft tissue and a potential source of endophthalmitis following intraocular surgery.The majority of obstructions of the lacrimal excretory outflow system are acquired ones occurring in adulthood and involving the distal parts of the system.Acquired obstruction may be primary/idiopathic or secondary to a wide variety of infectious,inflammatory,traumatic,mechanical,toxic or neoplastic causes mimicking idiopathic inflammation.These cases are treated by dacryocystorhinostomy(DCR).METHODS:The present study was conducted to determine the histopathologic,immunohistochemical and current microbiologic characteristics of lacrimal sac specimens in patients undergoing external dacryocystorhinostomy.RESULTS:Non-specific lacrimal sac pathology was present in all 33 cases and 81.8%of the cases showed moderate chronic inflammation with a chronic inflammatory score(CIS)ranging between 4 and 6,whereas 12.12%showed severe inflammatory changes with a CIS of 7.Mild degree of inflammation was seen in6.06%with a CIS of 3.The total prevalence of grampositive,gram-negative,and culture-negative samples were 59.4%,37.5%,and 3%respectively.CONCLUSION:Non-specific chronic inflammation withfibrosis is indeed the most commonly reported histopathological finding in lacrimal sac wall biopsy specimens.Rowayda Mahmoud Amin Faten Aly Hussein Hisham Farouk Idriss Nesrine Fathy Hanafy Dina Mohamed Abdallah 2013International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2013,6,6:7
9Role of sirtuins in ischemia-reperfusion injury显示文摘Ischemia-reperfusion injury(IRI)remains an unresolved and complicated situation in clinical practice,especially in the case of organ transplantation.Several factors contribute to its complexity;the depletion of energy during ischemia and the induction of oxidative stress during reperfusion initiate a cascade of pathways that lead to cell death and finally to severe organ injury.Recently,the sirtuin family of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide-dependent deacetylases has gained increasing attention from researchers,due to their involvement in the modulation of a wide variety of cellular functions.There are seven mammalian sirtuins and,among them,the nuclear/cytoplasmic sirtuin 1(SIRT1)and the mitochondrial sirtuin 3(SIRT3)are ubiquitously expressed in many tissue types.Sirtuins are known to play major roles in protecting against cellular stress and in controlling metabolic pathways,which are key processes during IRI.In this review,we mainly focus on SIRT1 and SIRT3 and examine their role in modulating pathways against energy depletion during ischemia and their involvement in oxidative stress,apoptosis,microcirculatory stress and inflammation during reperfusion.We present evidence of the beneficial effects of sirtuins against IRI and emphasize the importance of developing new strategies by enhancing their action.Eirini Pantazi Mohamed Amine Zaouali Mohamed Bejaoui Emma Folch-Puy Hassen Ben Abdennebi Joan Roselló-Catafau 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,43:7
10Composition and antimicrobial activity of Cistus munbyi essential oil: an endemic plant from Algeria显示文摘The chemical composition and antimicrobial potential of Cistus munbyi essential oil were studied for the first time. GC and GC–MS analysis revealed 48 compounds representing 96.98% of the oil. Terpinen-4-ol(23.75%), meta-Cymene(17.30%), and Sabinene(12.38%)were the major constituents. Antimicrobial activity was evaluated against nine pathogens using the disc diffusion and broth micro-dilution methods. Results show that C.munbyi essential oil possesses strong antimicrobial activity against all strains, regardless if Gram-positive or Gramnegative bacteria, or yeast, with MICs values not exceeding10(mg/ml). In addition to its efficacy, C. munbyi essential oil has an unusual antimicrobial potency which is attributed to its specific chemical composition. 11Insulin like growth factor-1 increases fatty liver preservation in IGL-1 solution显示文摘AIM: To investigate the benefits of insulin like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) supplementation to serum-free institut georges lopez-1 (IGL-1) solution to protect fatty liver against cold ischemia reperfusion injury. METHODS: Steatotic livers were preserved for 24 h in IGL-1  solution supplemented with or without IGF-1 and then perfused 'ex vivo ' for 2 h at 37℃. We examined the effects of IGF-1 on hepatic damage and function (transaminases, percentage of sulfobromophthalein clearance in bile and vascular resistance). We also studied other factors associated with the poor tolerance of fatty livers to cold ischemia reperfusion injury such as mitochondrial damage, oxidative stress, nitric oxide, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and mitogen-activated protein kinases.RESULTS: Steatotic livers preserved in IGL-1 solutionsupplemented with IGF-1 showed lower transaminase levels, increased bile clearance and a reduction in vascular resistance when compared to those preserved in IGL-1solution alone. These benefits are mediated by activation of AKT and constitutive endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), as well as the inhibition of inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α. 12Emotion processing in Parkinson's disease: a blood oxygenation level-dependent functional magnetic resonance imaging study显示文摘Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by loss of dopamine neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta. Tremor, rigidity, and bradykinesia are the major symptoms of the disease. These motor impairments are often accompanied by affective and emotional dysfunctions which have been largely studied over the last decade. The aim of this study was to investigate emotional processing organization in the brain of patients with Parkinson's disease and to explore whether there are differences between recognition of different types of emotions in Parkinson's disease. We examined 18 patients with Parkinson's disease(8 men, 10 women) with no history of neurological or psychiatric comorbidities. All these patients underwent identical brain blood oxygenation level-dependent functional magnetic resonance imaging for emotion evaluation. Blood oxygenation level-dependent functional magnetic resonance imaging results revealed that the occipito-temporal cortices, insula, orbitofrontal cortex, basal ganglia, and parietal cortex which are involved in emotion processing, were activated during the functional control. Additionally, positive emotions activate larger volumes of the same anatomical entities than neutral and negative emotions. Results also revealed that Parkinson's disease associated with emotional disorders are increasingly recognized as disabling as classic motor symptoms. 13Polyethylene glycol rinse solution:An effective way to prevent ischemia-reperfusion injury显示文摘AIM:To test whether a new rinse solution containing polyethylene glycol 35(PEG-35)could prevent ischemia-reperfusion injury(IRI)in liver grafts.METHODS:Sprague-Dawley rat livers were stored in University of Wisconsin preservation solution and then washed with different rinse solutions(Ringer’s lactate solution and a new rinse solution enriched with PEG-35 at either 1 or 5 g/L)before ex vivo perfusion with Krebs-Heinseleit buffer solution.We assessed the following:liver injury(transaminase levels),mitochondrial damage(glutamate dehydrogenase activity),liver function(bile output and vascular resistance),oxidative stress(malondialdehyde),nitric oxide,liver autophagy(Beclin-1 and LCB3)and cytoskeleton integrity(filament and globular actin fraction);as well as levels of metalloproteinases(MMP2 and MMP9),adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase(AMPK),heat shock protein 70(HSP70)and heme oxygenase 1(HO-1).RESULTS:When we used the PEG-35 rinse solution,reduced hepatic injury and improved liver function were noted after reperfusion.The PEG-35 rinse solution prevented oxidative stress,mitochondrial damage,and liver autophagy.Further,it increased the expression of cytoprotective heat shock proteins such as HO-1 and HSP70,activated AMPK,and contributed to the restoration of cytoskeleton integrity after IRI.CONCLUSION:Using the rinse solution containing PEG-35 was effective for decreasing liver graft vulnerability to IRI.Mohamed Amine Zaouali Mohamed Bejaoui Maria Calvo Emma Folch-Puy Eirini Pantazi Gianfranco Pasut Antoni Rimola Hassen Ben Abdennebi René Adam Joan Roselló-Catafau 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,43:6
14Hypoglycaemic effect of Berberis vulgaris L.in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats显示文摘Objective:To achieve a primary pharmacological screening contained in the aqueous extract of Berberis vulgaris(B.vulgaris) and to examine the hypoglycaemic effect and biochemical parameters of aqueous and saponins extract on groups of rats rendered diabetic by injection of streptozotocin.Methods:The phytochemicol tests to detect the presence of different compounds were based on the visual observation of color change or formation of precipitate after the addition of specific reagents.Diabetes was induced in rats by intraperitoneal(i.p.) injection of streptozotocin(STZ) at a dose of 65 mg/kg bw.The fasting blood glucose levels were estimated by glucose oxidase-peroxidase reactive strips(Dextrostix,Bayer Diagnostics).Blood samples were taken by cutting the tip of the tail.Serum cholesterol and serum triglycerides were estimated by enzymatic DHBS colorimetric method.Results:Administration of 62.5 and 2S.0 mg/kg of saponins and aqueous extract respectively in normal rats group shows a significant hypoglycemic activity(32.33%and 40.17%respectively) during the first week.However,diabetic group treated with saponin extract produced a maximum fall of 73.1%and 76.03%at day 1 and day 21 compared to the diabetics control.Also,blood glucose levels of the diabetic rats treated with aqueous extract showed decrease of 78.79%on the first day and the effect remains roughly constant during 3 week. Both extracts also declined significantly biochemical parameters(20.77%-49.00%).The control in the loss of body weight was observed in treated diabetic rats as compared to diabetic controls. 15Sirtuin 1 in rat orthotopic liver transplantation:An I GL-1 preservation solution approach显示文摘AIM:To investigate the possible involvement of Sirtuin1(SIRT1)in rat orthotopic liver transplantation(OLT),when Institute Georges Lopez 1(IGL-1)preservation solution is enriched with trimetazidine(TMZ).METHODS:Male Sprague-Dawley rats were used as donors and recipients.Livers were stored in IGL-1 preservation solution for 8h at 4℃,and then underwent OLT according to Kamada’s cuff technique without arterialization.In another group,livers were stored in IGL-1 preservation solution supplemented with TMZ,at10-6 mol/L,for 8 h at 4℃and then underwent OLT.Rats were sacrificed 24 h after reperfusion,and liver and plasma samples were collected.Liver injury(transaminase levels),mitochondrial damage(glutamate dehydrogenase activity)oxidative stress(malondialdehyde levels),and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(NAD+),the cofactor necessary for SIRT1 activity,were determined by biochemical methods.SIRT1 and its substrates(acFox O1,ac-p53),the precursor of NAD+,nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase(NAMPT),as well as the phosphorylation of adenosine monophosphate activated protein kinase(AMPK),p-m TOR,p-p70S6K(direct substrate of m TOR),autophagy parameters(beclin-1,LC3B)and MAP kinases(p-p38 and p-ERK)were determined by Western blot.RESULTS:Liver grafts preserved in IGL-1 solution enriched with TMZ presented reduced liver injury and mitochondrial damage compared with those preservedin IGL-1 solution alone.In addition,livers preserved in IGL-1+TMZ presented reduced levels of oxidative stress.This was consistent with enhanced SIRT1 protein expression and elevated SIRT1 activity,as indicated by decreased acetylation of p53 and Fox O1.The elevated SIRT1 activity in presence of TMZ can be attributed to the enhanced NAMPT protein and NAD+/NADH levels.Up-regulation of SIRT1 was consistent with activation of AMPK and inhibition of phosphorylation of m TOR and its direct substrate(p-p70S6K).As a consequence,autophagy mediators(beclin-1 and LC3B)were overexpressed.Furthermore,MAP kinases were regulated in livers preserved with IGL-1+TMZ,as they were characterized by enhanced p-ERK and decreased p-p38protein expression.CONCLUSION:Our study shows that IGL-1 preservation solution enriched with TMZ protects liver grafts from the IRI associated with OLT,through SIRT1 up-regulation.Eirini Pantazi Mohamed Amine Zaouali Mohamed Bejaoui Emma Folch-Puy Hassen Ben Abdennebi Ana Teresa Varela Anabela Pinto Rolo Carlos Marques Palmeira Joan Roselló-Catafau 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,6:5
16SMILE intraoperative complications: incidence and management显示文摘AIM: To report the intraoperative complications associated with small incision lenticule extraction(SMILE) and their management. METHODS: This was a retrospective consecutive interventional clinical study, carried out on patients with myopia and myopic astigmatism, who underwent SMILE procedure. Type of intraoperative complications and their management were recorded. RESULTS: Our study comprised 282 eyes of 141 patients who were enrolled for SMILE surgeries. The intraoperative complications included lost vacuum(18 eyes, 6.38%), treatment decentration(6 eyes, 2.12%), wound bleeding(21 eyes, 7.45%), incomplete bubble separation(black islands)(3 eyes, 1.06%), the epithelial defects(15 eyes, 5.32%). Incision tear(27 eyes, 9.57%), lenticule adherence to the cap(6 eyes, 2.12%), and cap perforation occurred in 2 eyes(0.7%). CONCLUSION: Although SMILE is a promising technique for the correction of myopia and myopic astigmatism with predictable, efficient, safe refractive and visual outcomes, complications can occur. However, most of them are related to inexperience and are included in the learning curve of the technique. 17Relevance of proteolysis and proteasome activation in fatty liver graft preservation: An Institut Georges Lopez-1 vs University of Wisconsin appraisal显示文摘AIM To compare liver proteolysis and proteasome activation in steatotic liver grafts conserved in University of Wisconsin(UW) and Institut Georges Lopez-1(IGL-1)solutions.METHODS Fatty liver grafts from male obese Zücker rats were conserved in UW and IGL-1 solutions for 24 h at 4 ℃and subjected to 'ex vivo ' normo-thermic perfusion(2 h; 37 ℃). Liver proteolysis in tissue specimens and perfusate was measured by reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography. Total free amino acid release was correlated with the activation of the ubiquitin proteasome system(UPS: measured as chymotryptic-like activity and 20 S and 19 S proteasome), the prevention of liver injury(transaminases), mitochondrial injury(confocal microscopy) and inflammation markers(TNF 1 alpha, high mobility group box-1(HGMB-1) and PPAR gamma), and liver apoptosis(TUNEL assay, cytochrome c and caspase 3).RESULTS Profiles of free AA(alanine, proline, leucine, isoleucine, methionine, lysine, ornithine, and threonine, among others) were similar for tissue and reperfusion effluent. In all cases, the IGL-1 solution showed a significantly higher prevention of proteolysis than UW(P < 0.05) after cold ischemia reperfusion. Livers conserved in IGL-1 presented more effective prevention of ATP-breakdown and more inhibition of UPS activity(measured as chymotryptic-like activity). In addition, the prevention of liver proteolysis and UPS activation correlated with the prevention of liver injury(AST/ALT) and mitochondrial damage(revealed by confocal microscopy findings) as well as with the prevention of inflammatory markers(TNF1alpha and HMGB) after reperfusion. In addition, the liver grafts preserved in IGL-1 showed a significant decrease in liver apoptosis, as shown by TUNEL assay and the reduction of cytochrome c, caspase 3 and P62 levels. 18Antimycobacterial natural products from Moroccan medicinal plants: Chemical composition, bacteriostatic and bactericidal profile of Thymus satureioides and Mentha pulegium essential oils显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the susceptibility of Mycobacterium aurum and Mycobacterium smegmatis in vitro to the essential oils obtained from two medicinal plants: Thymus satureioides(T. satureioides) and Mentha pulegium(M. pulegium), and to study their chemical composition.Methods: The aerial parts of T. satureioides and M. pulegium(leaves and stems) were hydro-distillated using a Clevenger-type apparatus and essential oils were analyzed and identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Antimycobacterial screening of essential oils was performed on the basis of the inhibition zone diameter by disc diffusion method against two mycobacterial strains whereas the minimal inhibitory concentration and minimal bactericidal concentration were determined by using the micro-dilution method.Results: Chemical analysis of their aerial part's essential oils gave as major compounds,borneol(34.26%), carvacrol(31.21%) and thymol(3.71%) for T. satureioides and R(+)-pulegone(75.48%), carvone(6.66%) and dihydrocarvone(4.64%) for M. pulegium.Thereafter their antimycobacterial effect evaluation, using the micro-dilution method,indicated that minimal inhibitory concentration values of T. satureioides essential oil ranged from 0.062% to 0.015%(v/v) and from 0.125% to 0.031%(v/v) for M. pulegium respectively against Mycobacterium aurum and Mycobacterium smegmatis.Conclusions: It is clearly evident from the results obtained that the Moroccan medicinal plants have great potential to be used as anti-tuberculosis agents.
