2Gold Nanostars-AIE Theranostic Nanodots with Enhanced Fluorescence and Photosensitization Towards Effective Image-Guided Photodynamic Therapy显示文摘Dual-functional aggregation-induced photosensitizers(AIE-PSs)with singlet oxygen generation(SOG)ability and bright fluorescence in aggregated state have received much attention in image-guided photodynamic therapy(PDT).However,designing an AIE-PS with both high SOG and intense fluorescence via molecular design is still challenging.In this work,we report a new nanohybrid consisting of gold nanostar(AuNS)and AIE-PS dots with enhanced fluorescence and photosensitization for theranostic applications.The spectral overlap between the extinction of AuNS and fluorescence emission of AIE-PS dots(665 nm)is carefully selected using five different AuNSs with distinct localized surface plasmon(LSPR)peaks.Results show that all the AuNS s can enhance the 1 O2 production of AIE-PS dots,among which the AuNS with LSPR peak at 585 nm exhibited the highest 1 O2 enhancement factor of15-fold with increased fluorescence brightness.To the best of our knowledge,this is the highest enhancement factor reported for the metalenhanced singlet oxygen generation systems.The Au585@AIE-PS nanodots were applied for simultaneous fluorescence imaging and photodynamic ablation of HeLa cancer cells with strongly enhanced PDT efficiency in vitro.This study provides a better understanding of the metal-enhanced AIE-PS nanohybrid systems,opening up new avenue towards advanced image-guided PDT with greatly improved efficacy.Mohammad Tavakkoli Yaraki Min Wu Eshu Middha Wenbo Wu Soroosh Daqiqeh Rezaei Bin Liu Yen Nee Tan 2021Nano-Micro Letters2021,13,4:3
3Anti-hypercholesterolemic effect of kenaf(Hibiscus cannabinus L.)seed on high-fat diet Sprague dawley rats显示文摘Objective:To determine? the anlihypercholesterolemic effects of kenaf seed samples and compare with the commercial hypocholesterolemic drug on serum lipids profiles and malondialdehyde(MDA) level in the rat.Methods:Kenaf seed oil(KSO),microencapsulated kenaf seed oil(MKSO),kenaf seed extract(KSE) and defatted kenaf seed meal(DKSM) were prepared and phytocHemicals screening on these samples were done prior in viro study.Phenolic compounds in KSF.were quantified using high performance liquid chromatography.There were 40(divided in eight diet groups of 5) male Sprague dawley rats adapted lo normal standard diet or hypercholesterolemic diet(HD) with or without the treatment of these kenaf samples for 32 days.Results:All the kenaf samples exhibited to contain most of the major phytocliemicals.KSE possessed gallic acid,tannic acid,catechin.benzaldehyde.benzoic acid,syringic acid,sinapic acid,ferulic acid,naringin acid,and protocatechuic acid.The significant higher(P<0.05) serum total cholesterol,low density lipoprotein cholesterol and MDA levels in HD group without treatment than the normal control group suggested the hypercholesterolemia was induced by the Incorporation of cholesterol into diet.KSE exhibited higher cholesterol-lowering properties due to the significant lower(P<0.05)in serum triglycerides,total cholesterol and MDA levels.KSF showed the highest efficiency of cholesterol-lowering activity,followed by KSO.MKSO and DKSM.Conclusions:DKSM.MKSO.KSO and KSE appeared lo have comparable anti-hypercholesterolemic effect with the commercial hypocholesterolemic drug.Hence,kenaf seed could be used as an alternative natural source lo replace the synthetic hypocholosterolemic drugs.Ng Shy Kai Tee Ai Nee Elaine Lai Chia Ling Tan Chin Ping Long Kamariah Nyam Kar Lin 2015Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2015,8,1:2
4Emerging Strategies in Enhancing Singlet Oxygen Generation of Nano-Photosensitizers Toward Advanced Phototherapy显示文摘The great promise of photodynamic therapy(PDT) has thrusted the rapid progress of developing highly effective photosensitizers(PS) in killing cancerous cells and bacteria. To mitigate the intrinsic limitations of the classical molecular photosensitizers, researchers have been looking into designing new generation of nanomaterial-based photosensitizers(nano-photosensitizers) with better photostability and higher singlet oxygen generation(SOG) efficiency, and ways of enhancing the performance of existing photosensitizers. In this paper, we review the recent development of nano-photosensitizers and nanoplasmonic strategies to enhance the SOG efficiency for better PDT performance. Firstly, we explain the mechanism of reactive oxygen species generation by classical photosensitizers, followed by a brief discussion on the commercially available photosensitizers and their limitations in PDT. We then introduce three types of new generation nanophotosensitizers that can effectively produce singlet oxygen molecules under visible light illumination, i.e., aggregation-induced emission nanodots, metal nanoclusters (< 2 nm), and carbon dots. Different design approaches to synthesize these nano-photosensitizers were also discussed. To further enhance the SOG rate of nano-photosensitizers, plasmonic strategies on using different types of metal nanoparticles in both colloidal and planar metal-PS systems are reviewed. The key parameters that determine the metal-enhanced SOG(ME-SOG) efficiency and their underlined enhancement mechanism are discussed. Lastly, we highlight the future prospects of these nanoengineering strategies, and discuss how the future development in nanobiotechnology and theoretical simulation could accelerate the design of new photosensitizers and ME-SOG systems for highly effective image-guided photodynamic therapy.Mohammad Tavakkoli Yaraki Bin Liu Yen Nee Tan 2022Nano-Micro Letters2022,14,7:2

9The Comparison Between Finite Element Analysis and Experimental Results of the Cooling of Injection Moulds with Hot Runner System显示文摘In an injection moulding process, the mould cooling s ystem is very important as an efficient and uniform cooling effect can improve b oth the productivity and part quality. Due to the complexity of the process, muc h research on the mould cooling analysis and cooling design optimization has bee n focused on the core and the cavity, excluding other systems of injection mould s. However, the runner system introduces a considerable amount of heat into the mould. In recent years, more and more hot runner systems are being applied in th e moulding industry to save material and decrease losses of injection pressure. This raises the need to include the hot runner system in the cooling analysis. I n this paper, a photo frame part was studied. The mould was built with a hot run ner system. Two thermal sensors were installed: one measures the temperature of lateral surface of hot runner nozzle; the other measures the plastic temperature from the core side. A pressure sensor was also installed to measure the pressur e of the core impression. Cooling analysis was performed using ABAQUS, ananalysi s software based on the Finite Element Method (FEM). The assembly including core , cavity and plastic part was modeled. Heat conduction from hot runner to cavity and from polymer melt to the mould and force convection on the cooling channel surfaces were studied. The natural convection between the ambient air and the ex terior mould surface was ignored. The simulations were adjusted with the experim ental results to find out the heat input from hot runner and its influence on mo uld cooling. 10Synthesis of novel magneto-hybrid polyoxometalate composite membrane with simultaneous photocatalytic self-cleaning and antifouling functionalities显示文摘Membrane technology is ideal for removing aqueous humic acid,but humic acid deposits cause membrane fouling,a significant challenge that limits its application.Herein,this work proposed an alternative approach to the controllably magnetically induced magnetohybrid polyoxometalate(magneto-HPOM)nanocomposite migration toward the polyethersulfone(PES)membrane surface under a magnetic field to enhance the self-cleaning and antifouling functionalities of the membrane.Before incorporating magneto-HPOM nanocomposite into the PES casting solution,functionalized magnetite nanoparticles(F-MNP)were first coated with HPOM photocatalyst to fabricate a magneto-HPOM-PES membrane.It was shown that the apparent impacts of this novel magneto-HPOM-PES membrane on the hydrophilic behavior and photocatalytic properties of the magneto-HPOM nanocomposite improve the hydrophilicity,separation performance,antifouling and self-cleaning properties of the membrane compared with neat PES membrane.Furthermore,after exposure to ultraviolet light,the magneto-HPOM-PES membrane can be recovered after three cycles with a flux recovery ratio of 107.95%,100.06%,and 95.56%,which is attributed to the temporal super hydrophilicity effect.Meanwhile,the magneto-HPOM-PES membrane could efficiently maintain 100%humic acid rejection for the first and second cycles and 99.81%for the third cycle.This study revealed a novel approach to fabricating membranes with high antifouling and self-cleaning properties for water treatment.Nee Nee Tan Qi Hwa Ng Siti Kartini Enche Ab Rahim Abdul Latif Ahmad Peng Yong Hoo Thiam Leng Chew 2023Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering2023,17,10:0
