| 1 | Trabeculectomy with large area mitomycin-C application as a first-line treatment in advanced glaucoma: retrospective review显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the outcomes of trabeculectomy with large area mitomycin-C(MMC) application as a first line treatment in advanced glaucoma. ·METHODS: The records of 55 patients with severe visual field defects undergoing trabeculectomy were retrospectively reviewed. The patients were classified as first-line therapy to either early trabeculectomy(initial trabeculectomy-Group 1) or long term medical therapy followed by trabeculectomy(primary trabeculectomy-Group 2). Trabeculectomy was performed with large-area MMC application. Intraocular pressure(IOP) values,visual acuities,mean deviations,morphology and function of the blebs,necessity for anti-glaucomatous medications and surgical complications were reported. ·RESULTS: There were 20 eyes of 18 patients in Group 1 and 37 eyes of 37 patients in Group 2. The mean preoperative IOPs in Groups 1 and 2 were 40.2±10.0mmHg(27-68mmHg) and 29.0±4.4mmHg(21-41mmHg),respectively(P=0.001). Average preoperative mean deviations(MD) in Groups 1 and 2 were 17.4±2.8dB(13.3-23dB) and 17.9± 2.4dB(13.7-23.2dB),respectively(P=0.441). Postoperative IOPs significantly decreased and were comparable in both Groups. The mean number of medications was significantly higher in Group 2(P =0.005). No cystic bleb formation was observed in Group 1,whereas 4 patients from Group 2(10.8%) developed cystic bleb(P =0.040). No visually devastating complication has occurred in both Groups. ·CONCLUSION: Initial trabeculectomy with large areaMMC application might be applied in patients with advanced glaucoma with low complication rates. | 2 | Investigation on microwave heating for direct leaching of chalcopyrite ores and concentrates显示文摘The use of microwave energy in materials processing is a relatively new development presenting numerous advantages because of the rapid heating feature. Microwave technology has great potential to improve the extraction efficiency of metals in terms of both a reduction in required leaching time and an increase in the recovery of valuable metals. This method is especially pertinent in view of the increased demand for environment-friendly processes. In the present study, the influence of microwave heating on the direct leaching of chalcopyrite ores and concentrates were investigated. The results of microwave leaching experiments were compared with those obtained under conventional conditions. During these processes, parameters such as leaching media, temperature, and time have been worked to determine the optimum conditions for proper copper dissolution. Experimental results show that microwave leaching is more efficient than conventional leaching. | 3 | Apoptosis in the iris and trabecular meshwork of medically treated and untreated primary open angle glaucoma patients显示文摘AIM:To compare the trabecular meshwork(TM)and iris apoptosis of treated and untreated primary open angle glaucoma(POAG)patients.METHODS:Eight treatment-naive,newly diagnosed(group 1)and 11 medlcaiy treated(group 2)patients with POAG were included in the study.Each patient underwent a limbus-based trabeculectomy.The TM and peripheral iris specimens were dissected out and were snap-frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored at-80t until they were assayed.Apoptosis in each group was assesed by TUNEL method.RESULTS:The mean patient age was 60.6±5.8 years(53-68 years)vs 58.9±8.9 years(47-70 years)in group 1and group 2(P=0.859).The mean treatment time in group 2 was 22.2±7.3 months(12-34 months).Apoptotic indexes in TM and iris were significantly higher in POAG patients using medication(group 2)compared to treatment-naive POAG patients(group 1)(P=0.004,0.015;respectively).CONCLUSION:Long term administration of topical antiglaucoma medications causes additional toxic effects on TM. | Zeynep Aktas Emine Esra Karaca Ipek Isik Gonul Murat Hasanreisoglu Merih Onol | 2013 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2013，6，6： | 3 |
| 4 | Single-port technique evolution and current practice in urologic procedures显示文摘Different groups described the single-port surgery since its first report in laparoscopic procedures.However,the acceptance of this technique among urologists,even after the robotic approach,was reduced in the past years.Therefore,to overcome the challenges related to the single-port surgery,a new robotic platform named da Vinci SP was created with exclusive single port technology.We performed a non-systematic literature review regarding the single port technique in urologic surgeries since the first laparoscopic report until the da Vinci SP robotic platform.Three different periods were described(laparoscopy,robotic,and da Vinci SP),and we focused in our experience with this new single port robot.We selected different articles and summarized the information regarding the use of single-site surgery in laparoscopic procedures and the challenges of this approach.We also reported the experience of different groups using the single port robotic technique and some recent reports of the da Vinci SP approach.In our experience with this new console,we described some critical points related to our radical prostatectomy technique and the lessons learned during the introduction of this novel platform.Previous single-site procedures described some common challenges that limited the technique expansion.However,our experience with the da Vinci SP described feasible and safe procedures with acceptable intraoperative outcomes.The introduction of this platform is recent in the market,and the literature still lacks a high level of evidence describing the long-term outcomes of this new technology. | Marcio Covas Moschovas Kulthe Ramesh Seetharam Bhat Fikret Fatih Onol Travis Rogers Gabriel Ogaya-Pinies Shannon Roof Vipul R.Patel | 2021 | Asian Journal of Urology2021，8，1： | 3 |
| 5 | Magnetic resonance imaging-guided prostate biopsydA review of literature显示文摘Objective:Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging(MP-MRI)helps to identify lesion of prostate with reasonable accuracy.We aim to describe the various uses of MP-MRI for prostate biopsy comparing different techniques of MP-MRI guided biopsy.Materials and methods:A literature search was performed for“multiparametric MRI”,“MRI fusion biopsy”,“MRI guided biopsy”,“prostate biopsy”,“MRI cognitive biopsy”,“MRI fusion biopsy systems”,“prostate biopsy”and“cost analysis”.The search operation was performed using the operator“OR”and“AND”with the above key words.All relevant systematic reviews,original articles,case series,and case reports were selected for this review.Results:The sensitivity of MRI targeted biopsy(MRI-TB)is between 91%e93%,and the specificity is between 36%e41%in various studies.It also has a high negative predictive value(NPV)of 89%e92%and a positive predictive value(PPV)of 51%e52%.The yield of MRI fusion biopsy(MRI-FB)is similar,if not superior to MR cognitive biopsy.In-bore MRI-TB had better detection rates compared to MR cognitive biopsy,but were similar to MR fusion biopsy.Conclusions:The use of MRI guidance in prostate biopsy is inevitable,subject to availability,cost,and experience.Any one of the three modalities(i.e.MRI cognitive,MRI fusion and MRI in-bore approach)can be used.MRI-FB has a fine balance with regards to accuracy,practicality and affordability. | Kulthe Ramesh Seetharam Bhat Srinivas Samavedi Marcio Covas Moschovas Fikret Fatih Onol Shannon Roof Travis Rogers Vipul R.Patel Ananthakrishnan Sivaraman | 2021 | Asian Journal of Urology2021，8，1： | 3 |
