Effect of Graphene Nanoplatelets addition on mechanical properties of pure aluminum using a semi-powder method显示文摘In recent years, graphene has attracted considerable research interest in all fields of science due to its unique properties. Its excellent mechanical properties lead it to be used in nano-composites for strength enhancement. This paper reports an Aluminum–Graphene Nanoplatelets(Al/GNPs)composite using a semi-powder method followed by hot extrusion. The effect of GNP nano-particle integration on tensile, compressive and hardness response of Al is investigated in this paper. It is demonstrated that 0.3 wt% Graphene Nanoplatelets distributed homogeneously in the matrix aluminum act as an effective reinforcing filler to prevent deformation. Compared to monolithic aluminum(in tension), Al–0.3 wt% GNPs composite exhibited higher 0.2% yield strength(+14.7%), ultimate tensile strength(+11.1%) and lower failure strain( -40.6%). Surprisingly, compared to monolithic Al(in compression), Al–0.3 wt% GNPs composite exhibited same 0.2% compressive yield strength and lower ultimate compression strength(- 7.8%),and lower failure strain(- 20.2%). The Al–0.3 wt% GNPs composite exhibited higher Vickers hardness compared to monolithic aluminum(+11.8%).Scanning electron microscopy(SEM), Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy(EDS) and X-ray diffraction(XRD) were used to investigate the surface morphology, elemental percentage composition, and phase analysis, respectively. | Muhammad Rashad Fusheng Pan Aitao Tang Muhammad Asif | 2014 | Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2014,24,2: | 52
Fabrication of corrosion-resistant superhydrophobic coating on magnesium alloy by one-step electrodeposition method显示文摘A one-step electrodeposition method was used to construct a superhydrophobic coating on the surface of magnesium alloy.Using magne-sium nitrate and ethanol solution of stearic acid as electrolyte, four groups of electrolytes with different ratios of stearic acid and magnesium nitrate were designed to explore the influence of electrolyte to the process. The contact angles of the four coating samples were 136.4±5.8°,152.7±2.8°,156.2±4.9°and 155.1±4.4°The addition of magnesium nitrate in the solution increased the hydrogen evolution reaction in the electrodeposition process, which was not conducive to electrodeposition process.During the deposition process, the sample prepared in a molar ratio of stearic acid to magnesium nitrate of 10:1 had the best corrosion resistance, and its corrosion circuit density was 3.74×10^(−8)A/cm^(2),far lower than the corrosion current density of the magnesium alloy substrate. | Tianxu Zheng Yaobo Hu Fusheng Pan Yuxin Zhang Aitao Tang | 2019 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2019,7,2: | 26
Geochemistry of Permian Mafic Igneous Rocks from the Napo-Qinzhou Tectonic Belt in Southwest Guangxi, Southwest China: Implications for Arc-Back Arc Basin Magmatic Evolution显示文摘The Napo-Qinzhou Tectonic Belt (NQTB) lies at the junction of the Yangtze, Cathaysia and Indochina (North Vietnam) Blocks, which is composed of five major lithotectonic subunits: the Qinzhou-Fangcheng Suture Zone (QFSZ), the Shiwandashan Basin (SB), the Pingxiang-Nanning Suture Zone (PNSZ), the Damingshan Block (DB) and the Babu-Lingma Suture Zone (BLSZ). On the basis of geochemical compositions, the Permian mafic igneous rocks can be divided into three distinct groups: (1) mafic igneous rocks (Group 1) from the Longjing region in the PNSZ and Hurun region in the BLSZ, which are characterized by intermediate Ti, P and Zr with low Ni and Cr contents; (2) mafic igneous rocks (Group 2) from the Naxiao and Chongzuo region in the DB, characterized by low-intermediate Ti, P and Zr with high Ni and Cr concentrations; and (3) mafic igneous rocks (Group 3) from the Siming region in the Jingxi carbonate platform of the northwestern margin of the NQTB, with intermediate-high Ti, P and Zr and low Ni and Cr contents. The Group 1 rocks yield a weighted mean 206 Pb/ 238 U age of 250.5±2.8 Ma and are geochemically similar to basalts occurring in back-arc basin settings. The Group 2 rocks exhibit geochemical features to those basalts in island arcs, whereas the Group 3 rocks show geochemical similarity to that of ocean island basalts. All three groups are characterized by relatively low ε Nd (t) values (-2.61 to +1.10) and high initial 87 Sr/ 86 Sr isotopic ratios (0.705309-0.707434), indicating that they were derived from a subduction-modified lithospheric mantle and experienced assimilation, fractional crystallization, and crustal contamination or mixing during magmatic evolution. Accordingly, we propose the existence of an arc-back arc basin system that developed along the NQTB at the border of SW Guangxi Province (SW China) and northern Vietnam, and it was formed by continued northwestward subduction of the Cathaysian (or Yunkai) Block under the Yangtze Block, and northeastward subduction of the Indochina Block beneath the Yangtze Block during Permian time. | QIN Xiaofeng WANG Zongqi ZHANG Yingli PAN Luozhong HU Guiang ZHOU Fusheng | 2012 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2012,86,5: | 19
Investigation on microstructural, mechanical and electrochemical properties of aluminum composites reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets显示文摘In present study, the microstructure, mechanical and electrochemical properties of aluminum-graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs) composites were investigated before and after extrusion. The contents of graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs) were varied from 0.25 to 1.0 wt.%in aluminum matrix. The composites were fabricated thorough powder metallurgy method, and the experimental results revealed that Al-0.25%GNPs composite showed better mechanical properties compared with pure Al,Al-0.50%GNPs and Al-0.1.0%GNPs composites. Before extrusion, the Al-0.25%GNPs composite showed ~13.5%improvement in ultimate tensile strength(UTS) and ~50%enhancement in failure strain over monolithic matrix. On the other hand,Al-0.50%GNPs and Al-0.1.0%GNPs composites showed the tensile strength lower than monolithic matrix. No significant change was observed in 0.2%yield strength(YS) of the composites. However, the extruded materials showed different trends.The0.2%YS of composites increased with increase in GNPs filler weight fractions.Surprisingly,UTS of composites with 0.25 and 0.50%GNPs was lower than monolithic matrix. The failure strain of the baseline matrix was enhanced by ~46%with 0.25%graphene nanoplatelets. The superior mechanical properties(in terms of failure strain) of the Al-0.25%GNPs composite maybe attributed to 2-D structure, high surface area and curled nature of graphene. In addition, the corrosion resistance of pure Al and its composites reinforced with 0.5 and 1.0 wt%GNPs was also investigated. It was found that the corrosion rate increased considerably by the presence of GNPs. | Muhammad Rashad Fusheng Pan Zhengwen Yu Muhammad Asif Han Lin Rongjian Pan | 2015 | Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2015,25,5: | 17
Research advances of magnesium and magnesium alloys worldwide in 2021显示文摘More than 4000 papers in the field of Mg and Mg alloys were published and indexed in Web of Science(WoS)Core Collection database in 2021.The bibliometric analyses indicate that the microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion of Mg alloys still are the main research focus.Mg ion batteries and hydrogen storage Mg materials have attracted much attention.Significant contributions to the research and development of magnesium alloys were made by Chongqing University,Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Chinese Academy of Sciences in China,Helmholtz Zentrum Hereon in Germany,Ohio State University in the United States, the University of Queensland in Australia,Kumanto University in Japan, and Seoul National University in Korea,University of Tehran in Iran,etc..This review is aimed to summarize the progress in the development of structural and functional Mg and Mg alloys in 2021.Based on the issues and challenges identified here, some future research directions are suggested. | Jiangfeng Song Jing Chen Xiaoming Xiong Xiaodong Peng Daolun Chen Fusheng Pan | 2022 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2022,10,4: | 16
Superhydrophobic coatings for corrosion protection of magnesium alloys显示文摘Magnesium(Mg)alloys show great potential to be extensively applied in practice owing to their superior properties, while the poor corrosion resistance does undoubtedly restrict their applications.Superhydrophobic coatings with good repellency to corrosive solutions can significantly decrease the interaction between the corrosive species and the substrate,so that they are receiving a lot of attention to improve the corrosion resistance of Mg alloys.Various strategies have been introduced to develop a superhydrophobic coating on Mg alloys, which were reviewed to elucidate the current research status to provide a clue or thinking for beginning researchers.Further, the existing issues of superhydrophobic coating were discussed, especially for their real applications in practice, mainly owing to their poor mechanical stability.Based on the existing issues, the future study was discussed to improve the stability of hierarchical structures and entrapped air pockets, impart the superhydrophobic coating self-healing property to repair the damaged area during service, provide double protection by incorporation of corrosion inhibitors,or even introduce slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces with lubricant layer to provide better corrosion protection for Mg alloys. | Wenhui Yao Liang Wu Guangsheng Huang Bin Jiang Andrej Atrens Fusheng Pan | 2020 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,52,17: | 15
Effect of Nd on microstructure and mechanical properties of as-extruded Mg-Y-Zr-Nd alloy显示文摘The microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-Y-Zr-x Nd alloys with 0–2.63 wt% Nd were investigated using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and tensile testing test. Results indicated that more Mg_(24)Y_5 particles and Mg_(14)Nd_2Y(β) phases were dispersed in the matrix when Nd content increased from 0 wt% to 2.63 wt% in the extruded alloys.Consequently, the nucleation of dynamic recrystallization and the volume fraction of recrystallized grains were promoted obviously. The average grain size can be refined in the range of 4.6–1.3 μm after the addition of 2.63 wt% Nd. The tensile strength of extruded alloys increased with increasing Nd content, and elongation exhibited an opposite change tendency. The extruded alloy sheet with 1.01 wt% Nd demonstrates optimal combination of strength and plasticity, i.e., the ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation were 273 MPa, 214 MPa, and 24.2%, respectively. Variations in mechanical properties are discussed on the basis of microstructure observations. | Xiaoyang Xu Xianhua Chen Weiwei Du Yuxiao Geng Fusheng Pan | 2017 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2017,33,9: | 14
Effect of heat treatment on LPSO morphology and mechanical properties of Mg-Zn-Y-Gd alloys显示文摘The mechanical properties and microstructure were investigated under different Zn content and heat treatment conditions in a Mg-Zn-YGd cast alloy.A part of the long period stacking order(LPSO)phases transformed to W-M^ZnaRE?phases with an increase in Zn content from 0.9 at.%to 1.8 at.%,and the ultimate tensile strength(UTS)increased from 229 MPa to 248 MPa.With solution treatment at 480°C,the content of the LPSO phase and strength sharply decreased in the Mg-1.8Zn-0.8Y-0.8Gd alloy, whereas this change was not significantly observed in the Mg-0.9Zn-O.8Y-O.8Gd alloy. After solution treatment, the elongation significantly improved and the UTS sharply decreased in both alloys. The lamellar and filminess LPSO phases were observed with aging treatment at 200℃.Moreover,the strengthening efficiency of lamellar and filminess LPSO phases was lower than that of the block LPSO phases. Therefore, the UTS of the T6 state was lower than that of the as-cast alloy. | Hongxin Liao Jonghyun Kim Taekyung Lee Jiangfeng Song Jian Peng Bin Jiang Fusheng Pan | 2020 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2020,8,4: | 14
Enhanced mechanical properties and degradation rate of Mg-Ni-Y alloy by introducing LPSO phase for degradable fracturing ball applications显示文摘In this work,as-cast Mg-Ni-Y alloys were proposed to develop a feasible material for fracturing balls, and their mechanical performance and corrosion behavior were systematically investigated.Long period stacking order(LPSO)phase was firstly introduced to improve both the mechanical properties and degradation rate of magnesium alloys. With the increase of LPSO phase, the compressive strength was improved significantly, while the elongation of the alloys decreased owing to the relatively brittle nature of LPSO phase.Due to the higher corrosion potential of LPSO phase, the LPSO phase can accelerate the corrosion process by providing more micro-couples.However,the LPSO phase would serve as the corrosion barrier between the corrosion medium and the matrix when the contents of LPSO phase are too high in Mg92.5Ni3Y4.5 and Mg87.5Ni5Y7.5 alloys.As-cast Mg97.5Ni1Y1.5 alloy with satisfactory mechanical properties and rapid degradation rate was successfully developed, exhibiting a high degradation rate of 6675 mm/a(93℃)in 3 wt.%KCl solution and a favorable ultimate compressive strength of 410 MPa.The degradation rate of Mg97.5Ni1Y1.5 alloy is 2-5 times of the current commercial magnesium alloy fracturing materials. | Jingfeng Wang Shiqing Gao Xiuying Liu Xing Peng Kui Wang Shijie Liu Weiyan Jiang Shengfeng Guo Fusheng Pan | 2020 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2020,8,1: | 13

Comparison of microstructures and mechanical properties of composite extruded AZ31 sheets显示文摘The microstructures and mechanical properties of the composite extruded AZ31/AZ31 and AZ31/4047 Al sheets were investigated and made a comparison to the conventional extruded AZ31 sheet.Owing to the introduced intense shear deformation at the interface during the composite extrusion, grain refinement and tilted texture were detected in AZ31 layers of the AZ31/AZ31 and AZ31/4047 Al sheets, while the conventional extruded AZ31 sheet exhibited a relative coarse, inhomogeneous microstructure and strong basal texture. The compressiontension yield ratio was increased gradually from the AZ31 to the AZ31/AZ31 and AZ31/4047 Al sheets.Besides, the AZ31/4047 Al sheet could successfully accomplish the whole bending forming process at room temperature, while the AZ31 and AZ31/AZ31 sheets were both bend-formed to failure with significant cracks in the outer tensile region under the identical bending parameters. Moreover, under the same bending strain, both the outward offset degree of strain neutral layer and the sheet thickening were more serious in the AZ31/4047 Al composite sheet than those of the AZ31 and AZ31/AZ31 sheets. The foremost reason was the quite wide gap of material properties between Mg alloy AZ31 layer(tensile loading in the outer region)and Al 4047 layer(compressive loading in the inner region). | Yanfu Chai Yan Song Bin Jiang Jie Fu Zhongtao Jiang Qingshan Yang Haoran Sheng Guangsheng Huang Dingfei Zhang Fusheng Pan | 2019 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2019,7,4: | 11
Influence of different extrusion processes on mechanical properties of magnesium alloy显示文摘AZ31 Mg alloy sheets were processed by the conventional symmetrical extrusion(CSE)and the asymmetric extrusion(ASE).Progressive-asymmetric extrusion(PASE)and severe strain-asymmetric extrusion(SASE)were employed for ASE processes. The texture at near-surface and mid-layer zones of ASE sheets was diverse penetrating the normal direction(ND).This was attributed to an additional asymmetric shear strain deformation during the ASE process.(0002)basal planes of PASE sheets tilt to the shear deformation direction.Meanwhile, the basal texture intensity of PASE sheets has been weakened compared with one in CSE sheets.Grain refinement and tilted weak basal texture obtained by SASE process dramatically enhances the room temperature strength and plasticity of the extruded AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets. The microstructure and mechanical responses were examined and discussed. | Qingshan Yang Bin Jiang Hucheng Pan Bo Song Zhongtao Jiang Jiahong Dai Lifei Wang Fusheng Pan | 2014 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2014,2,3: | 11
Effect of graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs)addition on strength and ductility of magnesium-titanium alloys显示文摘Effect of graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs)addition on mechanical properties of magnesium–10wt%Titanium(Mg–10Ti)alloy is investigated in current work. The Mg-(10Ti+0.18GNPs)composite was synthesized using the semi powder metallurgy method followed by hot extrusion.Microstructural characterization results revealed the uniform distribution of reinforcement(Ti+GNPs)particles in the matrix, therefore(Ti+GNPs)particles act as an effective reinforcing filler to prevent the deformation.Room temperature tensile results showed that the addition of Ti+GNPs to monolithic Mg lead to increase in 0.2%yield strength(0.2%YS),ultimate tensile strength(UTS),and failure strain.Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM),Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy(EDS)and X-Ray Diffraction(XRD)were used to investigate the surface morphology, elemental dispersion and phase analysis, respectively. | Muhammad Rashad Fusheng Pan Aitao Tang Yun Lu Muhammad Asif Shahid Hussain Jia She Jun Gou Jianjun Mao | 2013 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2013,1,3: | 10
Analysis of the cracks formation on surface of extruded magnesium rod based on numerical modeling and experimental verification显示文摘To reduce the surface cracks of extrusion rod for AZ31 magnesium caused by nonho-mogeneous metal flow in extrusion process, 3D computer finite element (FE) simulations of extruding a wrought magnesium alloy AZ31 into rods have been performed and the results have been verified in extrusion experiments under identical conditions. The tendency to generate the dead zone is decreased by employing the die angle 60° at the cone-shaped die comparing with the die angle 180°. The surface additional tensile stresses of the rod at the die exit are decreased greatly so that the surface cracks caused are avoided by using the die angle 60°. The extrusion die with die angle 180° would increase the higher temperature rise and possibility of crack forma- tion on the rod surface that caused by die angle 60° and temperature rise decrease tensile strength of the AZ31 rod. The experimental results show that die angle 180° could cause continuous cracks on the surface of the extruded rod. The extrusion force required is reduced approximately 15 ton by employing the die angle 60°. Theoretical results obtained by the DeformTM-3D simulation agreed well with the experiments. The obtained results provide the fundamental and also practical guidelines for the design and correction of dies to produce magnesium rod with good surface quality. | Hongjun HU Dingfei ZHANG Fusheng PAN Mingbo YANG | 2009 | Acta Metallurgica Sinica(English Letters)2009,22,5: | 9
Clarifying the roles of grain boundary and grain orientation on the corrosion and discharge processes of α-Mg based Mg-Li alloys for primary Mg-air batteries显示文摘The corrosion behavior at open circuit potential(OCP)and discharge properties under applied anodic currents of twoα-Mg based Mg-Li alloys,i.e.,LAZ131 and LAZ531,with different microstructural features for primary Mg-air batteries are investigated. The results show that the grain boundaries contribute equally to the corrosion and discharge processes, which are attacked preferentially than the grain interiors and accelerate the dissolution processes ofα-Mg based Mg-Li alloys.The(10-10)/(11-20)orientated grains are attacked preferentially than the(0002)orientated grains on the corrosion and discharge process. The increased corrosion rate and improved discharge properties are attributed to the refinement of grain size, decreased content of(0002)orientated grains and increased content of(10-10)/(11-20)orientated grains.Of those, the LAZ531 alloy possesses high and steady discharge voltage at small discharge current density for long time, with the values of 1.4801 V at 2.5 mA cm^(-2)and 1.3742 V at 10 mA cm^(-2). | Huabao Yang Liang Wu Bin Jiang Wenjun Liu Jiangfeng Song Guangsheng Huang Dingfei Zhang Fusheng Pan | 2021 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2021,,3: | 9
High temperature formability of graphene nanoplatelets-AZ31 composites fabricated by stir-casting method显示文摘Outstanding mechanical properties of graphene nanoplatelets(GNPs)make them ideal reinforcement for mass production of composites. In this research, the composites were fabricated by stir-casting method.GNPs were added in 1.5 and 3.0 wt.%into Mg–3wt.%Al–1wt.%Zn(AZ31)magnesium alloy. As cast ingots were preheated for one hour and extruded at 350℃ with extrusion ratio of 5.2:1.As extruded AZ31-GNPs composites were micro-structurally characterized with X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy.Vickers microhardness of synthesized materials was investigated both in parallel and perpendicular to extrusion directions.Room temperature mechanical testing revealed that with increasing GNP’s content, tensile fracture strain was remarkably increased without significant compromise in tensile strength.Furthermore,as extruded AZ31-3GNPs composites were subjected to tensile testing at temperatures ranging from 75℃ to 300℃ with initial strain rate of 2×10^(−3)s^(−1) to evaluate high temperature formability of composite. It was found that like CNTs,GNPs also have the potential to sustain tensile strength at high temperatures. | Muhammad Rashad Fusheng Pan Yanglu Liu Xianhua Chen Han Lin Rongjian Pan Muhammad Asif Jia She | 2016 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2016,4,4: | 9
