2Effectiveness of Different Waist Circumference Cut-off Values in Predicting Metabolic Syndrome Prevalence and Risk Factors in Adults in China显示文摘Objective To study the effectiveness of waist circumference cut-off values in predicting the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MetS) and risk factors in adults in China. Methods A cross-sectional survey was condcuted in 14 provinces(autonomous region, municipality) in China. A total of 47 325 adults aged ≥20 years were selected by multistage stratified sampling, and questionnaire survey and physical and clinical examination were conducted among them. MetS was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation(IDF) criteria and modified IDF criteria.Results The age-standardized prevalence of MetS was 24.2%(22.1% in men and 25.8% in women) and 19.5%(22.1% in men and 18.0% in women) according to the IDF criteria and modified IDF criteria respectively. The age-standardized prevalence of pre-MetS was 8.1%(8.6% in men and 7.8% in women) according to the modified IDF criteria. The prevalence of MetS was higher in urban residents than rural residents and in northern China residents than in southern China residents. The prevalence of central obesity was about 30% in both men and women according to the ethnicity-specific cut-off values of waist circumference for central obesity(90 cm for men and 85 cm for women). Multivariate regression analysis revealed no significant difference in risk factors between the two MetS definitions. 4Effect of drainage on CO_2, CH_4, and N_2O fluxes from aquaculture ponds during winter in a subtropical estuary of China显示文摘Aquaculture ponds are dominant features of the landscape in the coastal zone of China.Generally,aquaculture ponds are drained during the non-culture period in winter.However,the effects of such drainage on the production and flux of greenhouse gases(GHGs)from aquaculture ponds are largely unknown.In the present study,field-based research was performed to compare the GHG fluxes between one drained pond(DP,with a water depth of 0.05 m)and one undrained pond(UDP,with a water depth of 1.16 m)during one winter in the Min River estuary of southeast China.Over the entire study period,the mean CO_2flux in the DP was(0.75±0.12)mmol/(m^2·hr),which was significantly higher than that in the UDP of(-0.49±0.09)mmol/(m^2·hr)(p<0.01).This indicates that drainage drastically transforms aquaculture ponds from a net sink to a net source of CO_2in winter.Mean CH_4and N_2O emissions were significantly higher in the DP compared to those in the UDP(CH_4=(0.66±0.31)vs.(0.07±0.06)mmol/(m^2·hr)and N_2O=(19.54±2.08)vs.(0.01±0.04)μmol/(m^2·hr))(p<0.01),suggesting that drainage would also significantly enhance CH_4and N_2O emissions.Changes in environmental variables(including sediment temperature,p H,salinity,redox status,and water depth)contributed significantly to the enhanced GHG emissions following pond drainage.Furthermore,analysis of the sustained-flux global warming and cooling potentials indicated that the combined global warming potentials of the GHG fluxes were significantly higher in the DP than in the UDP(p<0.01),with values of739.18 and 26.46 mg CO_2-eq/(m^2·hr),respectively.Our findings suggested that drainage of aquaculture ponds can increase the emissions of potent GHGs from the coastal zone of China to the atmosphere during winter,further aggravating the problem of global warming.Ping Yang Derrick Y.F Lai Jia F.Huang Chuan Tong 2018Journal of Environmental Sciences2018,30,3:12

9OSL chronology and paleoclimatic implications of paleodunes in the middle and southwestern Qaidam Basin, Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Aeolian sediments are widely distributed in the Qaidam Basin, northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP). The paleodunes are mainly located at the southeastern, middle and southwestern Qaidam Basin. However, ages of paleodunes in the middle and southwestern Qaidam Basin have not been well studied, although they are close to and might connect to the evolution of salt lakes in the central basin. In this study, we use single aliquot regeneration (SAR) protocol of Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) to date the dune sand in these two regions. The results show that: (1) Sand accumulation in these regions started at ca. 4-3 ka and lasted to ca. 0.5 ka when they were stabilized, due to the arid climate in the late Holocene. (2) The underlying fluvial sand was formed during deglaciation at 12.6±0.8 ka. (3) The stabilization periods of the paleodunes correspond to stages of glacier advance in the northeastern QTP, during which lower temperatures caused the decrease of evaporation and increase of the effective moisture, leading to an increase of vegetation cover and stabilization of the dunes.LuPeng Yu ZhongPing Lai Ping An 2013Research in Cold and Arid Regions2013,5,2:7
10Geochemistry and Sr-Nd-Pb isotopic characteristics of the Mugouriwang Cenozoic volcanic rocks from Tibetan Plateau:Constraints on mantle source of the underplated basic magma显示文摘The Mugouriwang Cenozoic volcanic rocks exposed in the north Qiangtang Block of Tibetan Plateau are mainly composed of basalt and andesitic-basalt,both characterized by the lower SiO2 (51%―54%),high refractory elements (i.e. Mg,Cr,Ni) as well as the moderate enrichment in light rare earth elements (LREE) relative to a slight depleted in Eu and high strength field elements (HFSE,i.e. Nb,Ta,Ti). Be-sides,the fairly low Sm/Yb value (3.07―4.35) could signify that the rocks should be derived directly from partial melting of the spinel lherzolite at the upper part of the asthenosphere. These rocks have radiogenic Sr and Pb (87Sr/86Sr = 0.705339 to 0.705667; 208Pb/204Pb = 38.8192 to 38.8937; 207Pb/204Pb = 15.6093 to 15.6245; 206Pb/204Pb = 18.6246 to 18.6383),and non-radiogenic Nd (143Nd/144Nd = 0.512604 to 0.512639; εNd = +0.02 to -0.66) in agreement with those values of the BSE mantle reservoir. The DUPAL anomaly of the rocks can be evidently attested by the △8/4Pb = 66.82 to 74.53 ,△7/4Pb = 9.88 to 11.42,△Sr>50,implying that the Mugouriwang volcanic rock is likely to be generated by partial melting of a Gondwana-bearing asthenospheric mantle ever matasomatised by the fluid from subduction zone. Depending on the previous study on the high-K calc-alkaline intermediate-felsic volcanics in the study area,this paper proposed that the fluids derived from the subducted Lhasa Block metasomatised the asthenosphere beneath the Qiangtang Block,and induced its partial melting,and then the melt under-plated the thickened Qiangtang lithosphere and caused the generation of the Cenozoic adakite-like felsic magmas in the Qiangtang region.LAI ShaoCong QIN JiangFeng LI YongFei LONG Ping 2007Science China Earth Sciences2007,50,7:7
11Simultaneous catalytic hydrolysis of carbonyl sulfide and carbon disulfide over Al_2O_3-K/CAC catalyst at low temperature显示文摘In this work, a series of coal-based active carbon(CAC) catalysts loaded by Al2O3were prepared by sol-gel method and used for the simultaneous catalytic hydrolysis of carbonyl sulfide(COS) and carbon disulfide(CS2) at relatively low temperatures of 30-70 ℃. The influences of calcinations temperatures and operation conditions such as: reaction temperature, O2concentration, gas hourly space velocity(GHSV) and relative humidity(RH) were also discussed respectively. The results showed that catalysts with 5.0 wt% Al2O3calcined at 300 ℃ had superior activity for the simultaneous catalytic hydrolysis of COS and CS2. When the reaction temperature was above 50 ℃, catalytic hydrolysis activity of COS could be enhanced but that of CS2was inhibited. Too high RH could make the catalytic hydrolysis activities of COS and CS2decrease. 15Controlling synthesis and gas-sensing properties of ordered mesoporous In2O3-reduced graphene oxide(r GO) nanocomposite显示文摘Herein, we describe a strategy for fabricating ordered mesoporous In2O3-reduced graphene oxide(r GO)nanocomposite through ultrasonic mixing, where ordered mesoporous In2O3 nanoparticles are synthesized via the nanocasting route by using mesoporous silica as a hard template, which possess ordered mesostructure with a large surface area of 81 m2g-1, and r GO nanosheets are synthesized from graphite via graphene oxide(GO) as intermediate. After coupled with r GO, mesoporous In2O3 could maintain its ordered mesostructure. We subsequently investigate the gas-sensing properties of all the In2O3 specimens with or without r GO for different gases. The results exhibit the ordered mesoporous In2O3-r GO nanocomposite possesses significantly enhanced response to ethanol even at low concentration levels, superior over pure mesoporous In2O3 nanoparticles. 16Ordered mesoporous NiFe_2O_4 with ultrathin framework for low-ppb toluene sensing显示文摘Highly sensitive and selective detection against specific target gases,especially at low-ppb(part per billion)level,remain a great number of challenges in gas sensor applications.In this paper,we first present an ordered mesoporous NiFe_2O_4 for highly sensitive and selective detection against low-ppb toluene.A series of mesoporous NiFe_2O_4 materials were synthesized by templating from mesoporous silica KIT-6 and its framework thickness was reduced from 8.5 to 5 nm by varying the pore size of KIT-6 from 9.4 to 5.6 nm,accompanied with the increase of the specific surface area from 134 to 216 m^2g^(-1).The ordered mesoporous NiFe_2O_4 with both ultrathin framework of 5 nm and large specific surface area of up to 216 m^2g^(-1)exhibits a highest response(R_(gas)/R_(air)-1=77.3)toward 1,000 ppb toluene at 230℃ and is nearly 7.3 and 76.7 times higher than those for the NiFe_2O_4 replica with thick framework and its bulk counterpart respectively,which also possesses a quite low limit of detection(<2 ppb),and good selectivity.Xiaoyong Lai Kun Cao Guoxin Shen Ping Xue Dan Wang Fang Hu Jianli Zhang Qingfeng Yang Xiaozhong Wang 2018Science Bulletin2018,63,3:3

18Identification of miRNAs and target genes regulating catechin biosynthesis in tea (Camellia sinensis)显示文摘Micro RNAs(miRNAs) are endogenous non-protein-coding small RNAs that play crucial and versatile regulatory roles in plants. Using a computational identification method, we identified 55 conserved miRNAs in tea(Camellia sinensis) by aligning miRNA sequences of different plant species with the transcriptome library of tea strain 1005. We then used quantitative real-time PCR(qRT-PCR) to analyze the expression of 31 identified miRNAs in tea leaves of different ages, thereby verifying the existence of these miRNAs and confirming the reliability of the computational identification method. We predicted which miRNAs were involved in catechin synthesis using ps RNAtarget Software based on conserved miRNAs and catechin synthesis pathway-related genes. Then, we used RNA ligase-mediated rapid amplification of c DNA ends(RLM-RACE) to obtain seven miRNAs cleaving eight catechin synthesis pathway-related genes including chalcone synthase(CHS), chalcone isomerase(CHI), dihydroflavonol 4-reductase(DFR), anthocyanidin reductase(ANR), leucoanthocyanidin reductase(LAR), and flavanone 3-hydroxylase(F3H). An expression analysis of miRNAs and target genes revealed that miR529d and miR156 g-3 p were negatively correlated with their targets CHI and F3H, respectively. The expression of other miRNAs was not significantly related to their target genes in the catechin synthesis pathway. 19Anti-hypercholesterolemic effect of kenaf(Hibiscus cannabinus L.)seed on high-fat diet Sprague dawley rats显示文摘Objective:To determine? the anlihypercholesterolemic effects of kenaf seed samples and compare with the commercial hypocholesterolemic drug on serum lipids profiles and malondialdehyde(MDA) level in the rat.Methods:Kenaf seed oil(KSO),microencapsulated kenaf seed oil(MKSO),kenaf seed extract(KSE) and defatted kenaf seed meal(DKSM) were prepared and phytocHemicals screening on these samples were done prior in viro study.Phenolic compounds in KSF.were quantified using high performance liquid chromatography.There were 40(divided in eight diet groups of 5) male Sprague dawley rats adapted lo normal standard diet or hypercholesterolemic diet(HD) with or without the treatment of these kenaf samples for 32 days.Results:All the kenaf samples exhibited to contain most of the major phytocliemicals.KSE possessed gallic acid,tannic acid,catechin.benzaldehyde.benzoic acid,syringic acid,sinapic acid,ferulic acid,naringin acid,and protocatechuic acid.The significant higher(P<0.05) serum total cholesterol,low density lipoprotein cholesterol and MDA levels in HD group without treatment than the normal control group suggested the hypercholesterolemia was induced by the Incorporation of cholesterol into diet.KSE exhibited higher cholesterol-lowering properties due to the significant lower(P<0.05)in serum triglycerides,total cholesterol and MDA levels.KSF showed the highest efficiency of cholesterol-lowering activity,followed by KSO.MKSO and DKSM.Conclusions:DKSM.MKSO.KSO and KSE appeared lo have comparable anti-hypercholesterolemic effect with the commercial hypocholesterolemic drug.Hence,kenaf seed could be used as an alternative natural source lo replace the synthetic hypocholosterolemic drugs.Ng Shy Kai Tee Ai Nee Elaine Lai Chia Ling Tan Chin Ping Long Kamariah Nyam Kar Lin 2015Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2015,8,1:2
