Spatial variations of macrozoobenthos and sediment nutrients in Lake Yangcheng: Emphasis on effect of pen culture of Chinese mitten crab显示文摘We determined the effect of Chinese mitten crab(CMC) pen culture on the quantified spatial distribution of the macrozoobenthic community and sediment nutrients in Lake Yangcheng.Redundancy analysis indicated that water temperature, macrophyte occurrence, sediment type, and crab culture were the main environmental factors that influence the spatiotemporal macrozoobenthic distribution. Macrozoobenthic assemblages in the lake were characterized by eutrophic indicator species. In the most polluted estuaries, the abundance and diversity indices of the whole community and abundance of chironomids and oligochaetes were significantly depressed, and sediment carbon(C) and phosphorus(P) were significantly enhanced compared with those in the western, middle(MB), and eastern basin(EB). Crab culture in this lake had significant effects on the species composition of the macrozoobenthic community in one of three CMC culture pens(CP), and generally depressed the abundance of most chironomid and oligochaete species. Significantly increased diversity, evenness, sediment carbon and nitrogen content, and sediment C:P ratio in the CP were found compared with those in the three basins. However, no conspicuous difference in sediment P content between the CP and the two basins of MB and EB was detected. Our results showed that the enhanced diversity and evenness of macrozoobenthos might be associated with the joint effect of macrophyte planting and crab predation, and macrophyte planting may modify the effects of CMC culture by leading to disproportional accumulation of C and N in the sediment relative to P in the CP of the lake. | Liping Chen Ying Zhang Qigen Liu Zhongjun Hu Yuejuan Sun Ziran Peng Lijing Chen | 2015 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2015,27,11: | 15
Effect of side deep placement of nitrogen on yield and nitrogen use efficiency of single season late japonica rice显示文摘Side deep placement of nitrogen plays an important role in improving rice yield and nitrogen use efficiency.Few studies have examined the effects of reducing the times of nitrogen(RTN)application and reducing the nitrogen rate(RNR)of application on rice yield and nitrogen use efficiency under side deep placement of nitrogen in paddy fields. Therefore,a field experiment of RNT and RNR treatments was conducted with nine fertilization modes during the 2018–2019 rice growing seasons in a rice–wheat cropping system of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River,China.Rice yield and nitrogen use efficiency were investigated under side deep placement of nitrogen. We found that under the same nitrogen application rate, the yield of RTN3 increased by 9.64 and 10.18%in rice varieties NJ9108 and NJ5718,respectively,compared with the farmers’fertilizer practices(FFP).The nitrogen accumulation of RTN3 was the highest at heading stage,at 11.30 t ha^(–1)across 2018 and 2019.Under the same nitrogen application rate, the N agronomic use efficiency(NAE),N physiological efficiency(NPE)and N recovery efficiency(NRE)of RTN3 were 8.1–21.28%,8.51–41.76%and 0.28–14.52%higher than those of the other fertilization modes, respectively.RNR led to decreases in SPAD value, leaf area index(LAI),dry matter accumulation, nitrogen accumulation, and nitrogen use efficiency. These results suggest that RTN3 increased rice yield and nitrogen use efficiency under the side deep placement of nitrogen, and RNR1 could achieve the goals of saving cost and increasing resource use efficiency. Two fertilization modes RTN3 and RNR1 both could achieve the dual goals of increasing grain yield and resource use efficiency and thus are worth further application and investigation. | ZHAO Can HUANG Heng QIAN Zi-hui JIANG Heng-xin LIU Guang-ming XU Ke HU Ya-jie DAI Qigen HUO Zhong-yang | 2021 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2021,20,6: | 5
National-scale data-driven rainfall induced landslide susceptibility mapping for China by accounting for incomplete landslide data显示文摘China is one of the countries where landslides caused the most fatalities in the last decades. The threat that landslide disasters pose to people might even be greater in the future, due to climate change and the increasing urbanization of mountainous areas. A reliable national-scale rainfall induced landslide susceptibility model is therefore of great relevance in order to identify regions more and less prone to landsliding as well as to develop suitable risk mitigating strategies. However, relying on imperfect landslide data is inevitable when modelling landslide susceptibility for such a large research area. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of incomplete landslide data on national scale statistical landslide susceptibility modeling for China. In this context, it is aimed to explore the benefit of mixed effects modelling to counterbalance associated bias propagations. Six influencing factors including lithology, slope, soil moisture index, mean annual precipitation, land use and geological environment regions were selected based on an initial exploratory data analysis. Three sets of influencing variables were designed to represent different solutions to deal with spatially incomplete landslide information: Set 1(disregards the presence of incomplete landslide information), Set 2(excludes factors related to the incompleteness of landslide data), Set 3(accounts for factors related to the incompleteness via random effects). The variable sets were then introduced in a generalized additive model(GAM: Set 1 and Set 2) and a generalized additive mixed effect model(GAMM: Set 3) to establish three national-scale statistical landslide susceptibility models: models 1, 2 and 3. The models were evaluated using the area under the receiver operating characteristics curve(AUROC) given by spatially explicit and non-spatial cross-validation. The spatial prediction pattern produced by the models were also investigated. The results show that the landslide inventory incompleteness had a substantial impact on the outcomes of the statistical landslide susceptibility models. The cross-validation results provided evidence that the three established models performed well to predict model-independent landslide information with median AUROCs ranging from 0.8 to 0.9.However, although Model 1 reached the highest AUROCs within non-spatial cross-validation(median of 0.9), it was not associated with the most plausible representation of landslide susceptibility. The Model 1 modelling results were inconsistent with geomorphological process knowledge and reflected a large extent the underlying data bias. The Model 2 susceptibility maps provided a less biased picture of landslide susceptibility. However, a lower predicted likelihood of landslide occurrence still existed in areas known to be underrepresented in terms of landslide data(e.g., the Kuenlun Mountains in the northern Tibetan Plateau). The non-linear mixed-effects model(Model 3) reduced the impact of these biases best by introducing bias-describing variables as random effects. Among the three models, Model 3 was selected as the best national-scale susceptibility model for China as it produced the most plausible portray of rainfall induced landslide susceptibility and the highest spatially explicit predictive performance(median AUROC of spatial cross validation 0.84) compared to the other two models(median AUROCs of 0.81 and 0.79, respectively). We conclude that ignoring landslide inventory-based incompleteness can entail misleading modelling results and that the application of non-linear mixed-effect models can reduce the propagation of such biases into the final results for very large areas. | Qigen Lin Pedro Lima Stefan Steger Thomas Glade Tong Jiang Jiahui Zhang Tianxue Liu Ying Wang | 2021 | Geoscience Frontiers2021,12,6: | 4

Full-length transcriptome of anadromous Coilia nasus using single molecule real-time (SMRT) sequencing显示文摘This study was designed to generate the full-length transcriptome of Coilia nasus using single-molecule long read isoform sequencing(SMRT-seq)technology.RNAs of brains, ovaries, and testes of C.nasus conditioned in both seawater and freshwater except for gut which was only from the fish conditioned in freshwater, were isolated. All the RNAs were pooled together equally for SMRT sequencing. One SMRT cell produced 64.18 Gb clean data, including 765,184 circular consensus(CCS)reads and 616,126 full-length non-chimeric(FLNC)reads.Finally,93,793 non-redundant transcripts were obtained after clustered and polished.Structural analysis of the 93,793 non-redundant transcripts predicted 8242 alternative splicing events,a total of 229,825 SSR and 72,037 complete CDS.A total of 8437 lncRNA were identified.84,617 transcripts were annotated in NR,Swissprot,GO,COG,KOG,eggnog,Pfam and KEGG database totally. This is the first full-length transcriptome of Coilia nasus, including transcripts appeared in the case of seawater, which will facilitate exploration of genetic data and life story of Coilia nasus. | Jinpeng Zhang Shufang Gao Yonghai Shi Yinlong Yan Qigen Liu | 2022 | Aquaculture and Fisheries2022,7,4: | 0
Salt Stress Affects the Growth and Yield of Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) by Altering the Antioxidant Machinery and Expression of Hormones and Stress- Specific Genes显示文摘Understanding physiological responses in saline agriculture may facilitate wheat breeding programs.Based on a screening test, the Ningmai-14(NM-14)and Yangmai-23(YM-23)wheat cultivars were selected for further experiments to understand the underlying salinity tolerance mechanism. This study investigated the effects of five salinity levels such as Control(CK)=0(without NaCl stress),S1=0.20%,S2=0.25%,S3=0.30%and S4=0.35%of NaCl concentrations of soil on wheat plants. The results showed that increased salinity concentration reduced the growth and yield of wheat cultivars(NM-14 and YM-23).However,YM-23(12.7%)yielded more than NM-14 at maximum salinity stress. The higher salinity(S4)increased the concentration of Na^(+)(4.3 to 5.8-fold)and P contents(2.5 to 2.2-fold),while reducing the average concentrations of K^(+),Cu,and K^(+)/Na^(+)ratio.The higher salinity(S4)reduced the spikelet length by 21.35%(followed by grain spike−1),and the starch content by 18.81%.In the YM-23 cultivar, higher salinity increased superoxide dismutase(SOD),total antioxidant capacity(TAC),and amylase.Compared to NM-14,induced expression of TaYUC2,6,and TaGA13ox,20ox genes were recorded in YM-23.Similarly,in YM-23 the stress-specific genes such as TaHSP70,90 were enhanced whereas,TaSOS1,2 were suppressed.Overall, our study revealed that salt tolerant cultivars modulate hormonal and antioxidant activities, thus maintaining high growth. | Shahid Hussain Rui Zhang Shuli Liu Yang Wang Irshad Ahmad Yinglong Chen Hongyan Hou Qigen Dai | 2023 | Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2023,92,3: | 0
