1CeO_2-TiO_2 as a visible light active catalyst for the photoreduction of CO_2 to methanol显示文摘The performance of CeO2-TiO2 photocatalyst for the photocatalytic reduction of CO2 into methanol was studied under visible light irradiation. The as-prepared catalysts were characterized for their structural, textural and optical properties using X-ray diffraction(XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), nitrogen physisorption analysis, UV-vis spectroscopy and photoluminescence(PL) spectroscopy. The characterization results indicated that the presence of CeO2 stabilized the anatase phase of TiO2, decreased its crystallite size, increased the surface area, reduced the band gap energy and lowered the rate of electron-hole pair recombination. 5Catalytic performance of cement clinker supported nickel catalyst in glycerol dry reforming显示文摘The paper reports the development of cement clinker-supported nickel(with metal loadings of 5 wt%, 10 wt%, 15 wt% and 20 wt%) catalysts for glycerol dry(CO2) reforming reaction. XRF results showed that CaO constituted 62.0% of cement clinker. The physicochemical characterization of the catalysts revealed 32-folds increment of BET surface area(SBET) with the addition of nickel metal into the cement clinker, which was also corroborated by FESEM images. Significantly, XRD results suggested different types of Ni oxides formation with Ni loading, whilst Ca3SiO5 and Ca2Al0.67Mn0.33FeO5 were the main crystallite species for pure cement clinker. Temperature-programmed reduction analysis yielded three domains of H2 reduction peaks, viz. centered at approximately 750 K referred to as type-I peaks, another peaks at 820 K denoted as type-II peaks and the highest reduction peaks, type-III recorded at above 1000 K. 20 wt% Ni was found to be the best loading with the highest XGand H2 yield, whilst the lowest methanation activity. Syngas with lower H2/CO ratios(0.6 to 1.5) were readily produced from glycerol dry reforming at CO2-to-Glycerol feed ratio(CGR) of unity. 6CO_2 reforming of glycerol over La-Ni/Al_2O_3 catalyst:A longevity evaluative study显示文摘This paper reports on the longevity of glycerol-dry(CO2) reforming over the lanthanum(La) promoted Ni/Al2O3 catalysts.The XRD results showed that the Ni particle was well-dispersed in the presence of La promoter.In addition,via the NH3-TPD analysis,it was found that the La promoter has reduced the acidity of Ni catalyst which may have explained the mitigation of carbon laydown.It was determined that the 3.0 wt% La-promoted Ni/Al2O3 catalyst possessed the largest BET specific surface area of 97 m2 g-1.Consequently,it yielded the best catalytic longevity performance with conversion attained more than 90%,even after 72 h of reaction duration.Significantly,it can be confirmed that the presence of CO2 during the glycerol dry reforming was essential in reducing carbon deposition,most likely via gasification pathway.This has ensured a stability of catalytic activity for a long reaction period(72 h).Kah Weng Siew Hua Chyn Lee Maksudur R.Khan Jolius Gimbun Chin Kui Cheng 2015Journal of Energy Chemistry2015,24,3:0
7Proposal for pathogenesis-based treatment options to reduce calcium oxalate stone recurrence显示文摘Objective:Prevalence of kidney stone disease continues to increase globally with recurrence rates between 30%and 50%despite technological and scientific advances.Reduction in recurrence would improve patient outcomes and reduce cost and stone morbidities.Our objective was to review results of experimental studies performed to determine the efficacy of readily available compounds that can be used to prevent recurrence.Methods: All relevant literature up to October 2020,listed in PubMed is reviewed.Results: Clinical guidelines endorse the use of evidence-based medications,such as alkaline agents and thiazides,to reduce urinary mineral supersaturation and recurrence.However,there may be additional steps during stone pathogenesis where medications could moderate stone risk.Idiopathic calcium oxalate stones grow attached to Randall’s plaques or plugs.Results of clinical and experimental studies suggest involvement of reactive oxygen species and oxidative stress in the formation of both the plaques and plugs.The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system(RAAS),nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate(NADPH)oxidase,mitochondria,and NOD-like receptor pyrin domain containing-3(NLRP3)inflammasome have all been implicated at specific steps during stone pathogenesis in animal models.Conclusion: In addition to supersaturation-reducing therapies,the use of anti-oxidants,free radical scavengers,and inhibitors of NADPH oxidase,NLRP3 inflammasome,and RAAS may prove beneficial for stone prevention.Compounds such as statins and angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors are already in use as therapeutics for hypertension and cardio-vascular disease and have previously shown to reduce calcium oxalate nephrolithiasis in rats.Although clinical evidence for their use in stone prevention in humans is limited,experimental data support they be considered along with standard evidence-based medications and clinical expertise when patients are being counselled for stone prevention.Saeed R.Khan Benjamin K.Canales 2023Asian Journal of Urology2023,10,3:0
8Defensive Role of Plant Hormones in Advancing Abiotic Stress-Resistant Rice Plants显示文摘Consistent climatic perturbations have increased global environmental concerns, especially the impacts of abiotic stresses on crop productivity. Rice is a staple food crop for the majority of the world’s population. Abiotic stresses, including salt, drought, heat, cold and heavy metals, are potential inhibitors of rice growth and yield. Abiotic stresses elicit various acclimation responses that facilitate in stress mitigation. Plant hormones play an important role in mediating the growth and development of rice plants under optimal and stressful environments by activating a multitude of signalling cascades to elicit the rice plant’s adaptive responses. 9Model Predictions of Charged-Particle Azimuthal Distributions and Forward-Backward Correlations in pp Interactions at s1/2= 900 GeV显示文摘We report inelastic interactions of protons at the center of mass energy s1/2 = 900 Ge V, by using different event generators to study the forward-backward(FB) correlation in summed transverse momentum and multiplicity of produced charged particles. The transverse momentum, p T ≥ 100 Me V, and pseudorapidity, | η |< 2.5, have been employed for both the correlations. The simulation results are compared with the ATLAS experimental data, obtained with the same values of | η | and p T at s1/2 = 900 Ge V. We also measure the jet and jet-like structure as a function of azimuthal distributions in the events relative to the highest transverse momentum particle. Three overlapping regions of pseudorapidity, | η |< 1.0, | η |< 2.0, and | η |< 2.5 are used with transverse momentum, p T > 500 Me V. For FB correlations, EPOS, and Sybill2.3 c results are in a good agreement with the data as compared to the other models.Similarly, for the azimuthal distribution, EPOS-LHC, DPMJETIII, and Sibyll2.3 c show good agreement with the data for full η region. 11Improvements in methodology to determine feedback reactivity coefficients显示文摘The reactivity of a nuclear reactor is the most important safety and operating parameter. Due to short reactor period, the Light Water Reactor(LWR) designs require the compensations of rapid unfavorable reactivity increases. The increase in fuel or moderator temperature leads to compensate the reactivity jumps as inherent safety characteristics. The safe and reliable reactor operation requires the accurate assessment of these reactivity changes. This paper highlights the improvements in the methodology to determine the feedback reactivity changes in IAEA MTR benchmark. This method incorporates the reactivity effects of fuel temperature in moderator regions and vice versa. For this purpose, a detailed 3D model of the IAEA 10 MW MTR benchmark reactor is developed employing OpenMC computer code. OpenMC is a probabilistic computer code for neutronic calculations. This work uses temperature-dependent JEFF 3.2 cross-sectional library. The model is validated against the reference results of eigenvalues for control rods(inserted and in fully withdrawn position), control rod reactivity worth, averaged thermal flux in the central flux trap, and power fraction for each fuel element at beginning of life. The validated model is applied to simulate the feedback reactivity coefficients against the conventional reference results. In order to improve the methodology, the effect of the moderator temperature and void on fuel is incorporated to obtain a more realistic value of the fuel temperature coefficient.Similarly, the moderator temperature coefficient and void coefficient are improved by incorporating the coupling effects of fuel temperature on moderator. 13Exploring the Approaches to Data Flow Computing显示文摘Architectures based on the data flow computing model provide an alternative to the conventional Von-Neumann architecture that are widelyused for general purpose computing.Processors based on the data flow architecture employ fine-grain data-driven parallelism.These architectures have thepotential to exploit the inherent parallelism in compute intensive applicationslike signal processing,image and video processing and so on and can thusachieve faster throughputs and higher power efficiency.In this paper,severaldata flow computing architectures are explored,and their main architecturalfeatures are studied.Furthermore,a classification of the processors is presented based on whether they employ either the data flow execution modelexclusively or in combination with the control flow model and are accordinglygrouped as exclusive data flow or hybrid architectures.The hybrid categoryis further subdivided as conjoint or accelerator-style architectures dependingon how they deploy and separate the data flow and control flow executionmodel within their execution blocks.Lastly,a brief comparison and discussionof their advantages and drawbacks is also considered.From this study weconclude that although the data flow architectures are seen to have maturedsignificantly,issues like data-structure handling and lack of efficient placementand scheduling algorithms have prevented these from becoming commerciallyviable.Mohammad B.Khan Abdul R.Khan Hasan Alkahtani 2022Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,5:0
