3Toxic Effect of a Pesticide, Diflubenzuron on Freshwater Microinvertebrate (Tetrahymena pyriformis)显示文摘The impact of diflubenzuron (DFB) on Tetrahymena pyriformis, a ciliated protiste was studied. The treatment with DFB at concentrations of 10 and 20 μg/mL could appreciably reduce the growth of the protiste. The surveillance of protozoa′s respiratory metabolism with polarography technique showed a sensitive inhibition of its oxygen consumption, and at 20 μg/mL concentration the oxygen consumption was increased. For any malformation of morphology and perturbation in swimming trajectory, the neutral red coloration was done. This technique (neutral red) showed that there was a toxic effect of DFB on T. pyriformis, especially at the highest concentration; this toxicity was translated by rotatory swimming in same place and the increasing of coloration quantity in digestive vacuoles. 4A hydromechanical approach for anisotropic elasto-viscoplastic geomaterials:Application to underground excavations in sedimentary rocks显示文摘To better describe excavation operations in deep geological formations,several aspects should be considered,especially the material anisotropy,time-dependent behavior,and hydromechanical coupling.In the present paper,a hydromechanical model based on the framework of continuous porous media was proposed.The mechanical elasto-viscoplastic constitutive model accounted for the material elastic and non-elastic anisotropies,using a transformation between the real transversely isotropic material and a fictitious isotropic material.Considering the hydraulic behavior,the permeability was expressed as a function of the volumetric viscoplastic strain.The model was applied to a case study of two tunnel excavations in an anisotropic rock under an initial anisotropic stress state.The results of the numerical simulations using a finite element code were in good agreement with the field convergence and permeability data.Mohamed Mahjoub Ahmed Rouabhi 2019Underground Space2019,4,2:0
5Effect of insoluble materials on the volumetric behavior of rock salt显示文摘This paper focuses on the presence of nodules of insoluble materials within salt specimens,and their effect on the volumetric strain measurements and the dilatancy phenomenon.We analyzed experimental results of over 120 conventional triaxial compression tests,and found that in 20%of the cases,the volumetric strain measurements were atypical.We also noted that the natural variability of the specimens can lead to a non-negligible data scattering in the volumetric strain measurements when different specimens are subjected to the same test.This is expected given the small magnitude of those strains,but it occasionally implies that the corresponding specimens are not representative of the volumetric behavior of the studied rock.In order to understand these results,we numerically investigated salt specimens modeled as halite matrices with inclusions of impurities.Simulations of triaxial compression tests on these structures proved that such heterogeneities can induce dilatancy,and their presence can lead to the appearance of tensile zones which is physically translated into a micro-cracking activity.The modeling approach is validated as the patterns displayed in the numerical results are identical to that in the laboratory.It was then employed to explain the observed irregularities in experimental results.We studied the natural variability effect as well and proposed a methodology to overcome the issue of specimen representativity from both deviatoric and volumetric perspectives.Mejda Azabou Ahmed Rouabhi Laura Blanco-Martìn 2021Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2021,13,1:0
