Differential control of growth, apoptotic activity and gene expression in human colon cancer cells by extracts derived from medicinal herbs,Rhazya stricta and Zingiber officinale and their combination显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effects of extracts from Rhazya stricta(R.stricta) and Zingiber officinale(Z.officinale) on human colorectal cancer cells.METHODS:Human colorectal cancer cells(HCT116) were subjected to increasing doses of crude alkaloid extracts from R.stricta(CAERS) and crude flavonoid extracts from Z.officinale(CFEZO).Cells were then harvested after 24,48 or 72 h and cell viability was examined by trypan blue exclusion dye test; clonogenicity and soft agar colony-forming assays were also carried out.Nuclear stain(Hoechst 33342),acridine orange/ethidium bromide double staining, agarose gel electrophoresis and comet assays were performed to assess pro-apoptotic potentiality of the extracts.Quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR),using gene-specific primers and Western blot analyses were performed to assess the impact of CAERS and CFEZO on the expression levels of key regulatory proteins in HCT116 cells.RESULTS:Treatment with a combination of CAERS and CFEZO synergistically suppressed the proliferation, colony formation and anchorage-independent growth of HCT116 cells.Calculated IC50,after 24,48 and 72 h,were 70,90 and 130 μg/mL for CAERS,65,85 and 120 μg/mL for CFEZO and 20,25 and 45 μg/mL for both agents,respectively.CAERS- and CFEZO-treated cells exhibited morphologic and biochemical features of apoptotic cell death. The induction of apoptosis was associated with the release of mitochondrial cytochrome c,an increase in the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, activation of caspases 3 and 9 and cleavage of poly ADP-ribose polymerase.CAERS and CFEZO treatments downregulated expression levels of anti-apoptotic proteins including Bcl-2,Bcl-X,Mcl-1,survivin and XIAP,and upregulated expression levels of proapoptotic proteins such as Bad and Noxa.CAERS and CFEZO treatments elevated expression levels of the oncosuppressor proteins,p53,p21 and p27,and reduced levels of the oncoproteins, cyclin D1,cyclin/cyclin-dependent kinase-4 and c-Myc.CONCLUSION:These data suggest that a combination of CAERS and CFEZO is a promising treatment for the prevention of colon cancer.Ayman I Elkady Rania Abd El Hamid Hussein Osama A Abu-Zinadah 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,41:12
Safety and efficacy of ultrasound ciliary plasty as a primary intervention in glaucoma patients显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the safety and the efficacy of the ultrasound ciliary plasty(UCP) on the intraocular pressure(IOP) control in glaucomatous eyes without previous glaucoma surgery.METHODS: A retrospective study included patients with primary and secondary glaucoma who underwent UCP in Dar Al Shifa Hospital, Kuwait between January 2017 to June 2018. High-intensity focused ultrasound procedures were performed under peribulbar anesthesia using the 2^(nd) generation probe with 8 s duration of each of the 6 shots. Complete ophthalmologic examinations were scheduled pre-treatment, and at 1 d, 1 wk, 1, 3, 6 and 12 mo posttreatment. Primary outcomes were the IOP reduction and success rates at 12 mo, while the secondary outcomes were the occurrence of vision threatening complications and visual acuity.RESULTS: The records of 62 eyes of 62 patients were analyzed with mean age of 63.8 y(67.7% males). There was statistically significant reduction in the mean IOP from 35.2±8.3 mm Hg before treatment to 20.6±8.7 mm Hg at 12^(th) month(P<0.0005) with a mean percentage IOP reduction of 42.3% with significant reduction in the mean number of antiglaucomatous drugs from 3.2±0.4 before treatment to 2.1±1.02 at 12 mo(P<0.0005). Qualified success was achieved in 77.4% of eyes at 12 mo. No major intra-or posttreatment complications were reported.CONCLUSION: Second-generation UCP prove to be effective in reducing IOP in naive glaucoma patients with lower success rates in cases of neovascular and uveitic glaucomas.Magda A.Torky Yousif A Al Zafiri Sherein M.Hagras Abeer M.Khattab Rania M.Bassiouny Tharwat H.Mokbel 2019International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2019,12,4:9
Evaluation of patients with dry eye disease for conjunctival Chlamydia trachomatis and Ureaplasma urealyticum显示文摘AIM:To determine the possibility of the development of dry eye disease(DED) as a result of persistent infection with Chlamydia trachomatis and Ureaplasma urealyticum in the conjunctiva of patients.METHODS: This study was conducted on 58 patients of age range 20-50 y,diagnosed with DED confirmed by Schirmer I test and tear breakup time. The non-dry eye control group included 27 subjects of the same age.Ocular specimens were collected as conjunctival scrapings and swabs divided into three groups: the first used for bacterial culture, the second and third taken to detect Chlamydia trachomatis and Ureaplasma urealyticum by direct fluorescent antibody(DFA) assay and polymerase chain reaction(PCR) method. RESULTS: Chlamydia trachomatis was detected in 65.5% and 76% of DED patients by DFA and PCR methods respectively.Ureaplasma urealyticum was found in 44.8% of DED infected patients using the PCR method. Both organisms were identified in only 37.9% of DED patients found to be infected.Control subjects had a 22%detection rate of Chlamydia trachomatis by DFA assay versus a 7% detection rate by PCR; while Ureaplasma urealyticum was detected in 3.7% of the controls by PCR method. The conjunctival culture revealed that gram positive microorganisms represented 75% of isolates with coagulase negative Staphylococci the most common(50%) followed by Staphylococcus aureus(20%),whereas gram negative microorganisms occurred in 25% of cases, isolating Moraxella spp.as the most frequent organism. CONCLUSION: Our results tend to point out that Chlamydia trachomatis and Ureaplasma urealyticum were detected in a moderate percentage of patients with DED,and could be a fair possibility for its development.PCR is more reliable in detecting Chlamydia trachomatis than DFA technique. The presence of isolated conjunctival bacterial microflora can be of some potential value.Maha Mohssen Abdelfattah Rania Abdelmonem Khattab Magda H.Mahran Ebrahim S.Elborgy 2016International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2016,9,10:6
Safety and efficacy of photodynamic therapy using BCECF-AM compared to mitomycin C in controlling post-operative fibrosis in a rabbit model of subscleral trabeculectomy显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the safety and efficacy of cellular photoablation using BCECF-AM[2',7'-bis-(2-carboxyethyl)-5-(and-6)-carboxyfluorescein,acetoxymethyl ester mixed isomers]as a method to control postoperative fibrosis in subscleral trabeculectomy(SST) compared to mitomycin C(MMC) in a rabbit model.· METHODS:A comparative prospective case-control animal study was conducted.Fourteen rabbits were subjected to SST with intraoperative use of wound modulating agents(MMC or BCECF-AM) of the right eye(study groups Ⅰ and Ⅱ respectively) and SST without use of intraoperative wound modulating agents for the left eye(control group Ⅱ).Two rabbits 4 eyes were considered as control group Ⅰ with no surgical intervention.BCECF-AM was injected subconjunctivally30 min before surgery followed by intraoperative illumination with diffuse blue light for 10 min.Antifibrotic efficacy was established by clinical response and histological examination.Clinical response was assessed by measuring intraocular pressure(IOP) at day 1,3,5,7,14,21 postoperatively.Success was defined by >20.0%reduction in IOP from the preoperative values without anti-glaucoma medications.· RESULTS:The mean percentage of reduction was35.0%in the study group Ⅰ with only one eye(14.3%) had12.5%reduction.The mean percentage of reduction was28.0%in the study group Ⅱ with two eyes(28.6%) in study group Ⅱ had 14.2%reduction each.Regarding the control group Ⅱ,the mean percentage of reduction was14.3%with 64.3%eyes had <20.0%reduction.There was a highly statistically significant difference between each of the study groups(right eyes) and the corresponding control group Ⅱ(left eyes) as regards the mean postoperative IOP values started from day 5 in both study groups and this highly significant difference remained so till the end of the follow up period.Histologically,MMC treated blebs showed thinning of conjunctival epithelium with marked reduction of the goblet cells relative to control.Marked sub-epithelial edema was seen along with variable collagen dispersion.Mild cellularity was noted in sub-epithelial tissue.BCECF-AM treated blebs showed normal conjunctival epithelial thickness with abundant goblet cells.Mild subepithelial edema was noted along with moderate collagen dispersion. No histological abnormality was noted in the ciliary body or the cornea in any of the studied groups.· CONCLUSION:Cellular photoablation using BCECF-AM is a safe and effective wound modulating agent to control postoperative fibrosis in trabeculectomy. However MMC considered as a more potent adjuvant to trabeculectomy than BCECF-AM in promoting IOP reduction.Azza Mohamed Ahmed Said Rania Gamal Eldin Zaki Thanaa Helmy Mohamed Manal Ibraheem Salman 2016International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2016,9,3:5
Changing dietary n-6:n-3 ratio using different oil sources affects performance, behavior, cytokines mRNA expression and meat fatty acid profile of broiler chickens显示文摘Typical formulated broiler diets are deficient in n-3 poly-unsaturated fatty acids(PUFA) due to widening n-6:n-3 PUFA ratio which could greatly affect performance, immune system of birds and, more importantly, meat quality. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of modifying dietary n-6:n-3 PUFA ratio from plant and animal oil sources on performance, behavior, cytokine m RNA expression, antioxidative status and meat fatty acid profile of broiler chickens.Birds(n=420) were fed 7 diets enriched with different dietary oil sources and ratios as follows: sunflower oil in control diet(C); fish oil(FO); 1:1 ratio of sunflower oil to FO(C1 FO1); 3:1 ratio of sunflower oil to fish oil(C3 FO1); linseed oil(LO); 1:1 ratio of sunflower oil to linseed oil(C1 LO1); 3:1 ratio of sunflower oil to linseed oil(C3 LO1),resulting in dietary n-6:n-3 ratios of approximately 40:1,1.5:1,4:1,8:1,1:1,2.5:1 and 5:1,respectively.The best final body weight, feed conversion ratio as well as protein efficiency ratio of broilers were recorded in the C1 FO1 and C1 LO1 groups.Compared with the control group, the dressing percentage and breast and thigh yield were highest in the C1 FO1 and C1 LO1 groups.Narrowing the dietary n-6:n-3 ratio increased(P < 0.05) n-3 PUFA content of breast meat. Moreover, the breast meat contents of eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid increased(P < 0.05) with increasing dietary FO whereas a-linolenic acid content was higher with LO supplementation. Also, enriching the diets with n-3 PUFA from FO and LO clearly decreased(P < 0.05) serum total cholesterol, triglycerides and very low-density lipoproteins and enhanced antioxidative status. The feeding frequency was decreased(P < 0.05) in the C1 FO1 and C1 LO1 groups.Likewise,n-3 PUFA-enriched diets enhanced the frequency of preening, wing flapping and flightiness.Animal oil source addition, compared to plant oil,to broiler diets enhanced the relative m RNA expression of interferon gamma,interleukin-1 beta,interleukin-2 and interleukin-6 genes, especially at low n-6:n-3 ratios. This study has clearly shown that narrowing n-6:n-3 ratio through the addition of FO or LO improved performance and immune response of broilers and resulted in healthy chicken meat, enriched with long chain n-3 PUFA.Doaa Ibrahim Rania El-Sayed Safaa I.Khater Enas N.Said Shefaa A.M.El-Mandrawy 2018Animal Nutrition2018,,1:5
Effects of variable properties on MHD heat and mass transfer flow near a stagnation point towards a stretching sheet in a porous medium with thermal radiation显示文摘The effect of variable viscosity and thermal conductivity on steady magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) heat and mass transfer flow of viscous and incompressible fluid near a stagnation point towards a permeable stretching sheet embedded in a porous medium are presented, taking into account thermal radiation and internal heat genberation/absorbtion.The stretching velocity and the ambient fluid velocity are assumed to vary linearly with the distance from the stagnation point. The Rosseland approximation is used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. The governing fundamental equations are first transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations using a scaling group of transformations and are solved numerically by using the fourth-order Rung-Kutta method with the shooting technique.A comparison with previously published work has been carried out and the results are found to be in good agreement. The results are analyzed for the effect of different physical parameters, such as the variable viscosity and thermal conductivity, the ratio of free stream velocity to stretching velocity, the magnetic field, the porosity, the radiation and suction/injection on the flow, and the heat and mass transfer characteristics. The results indicate that the inclusion of variable viscosity and thermal conductivity into the fluids of light and medium molecular weight is able to change the boundary-layer behavior for all values of the velocity ratio parameter λ except for λ = 1.In addition, the imposition of fluid suction increases both the rate of heat and mass transfer, whereas fluid injection shows the opposite effect.A.M.Salem Rania Fathy 2012Chinese Physics B2012,21,5:4
Effect of mesenchymal stem cells on anti-Thy1,1 induced kidney injury in albino rats显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the effect of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)in rats with anti-Thy 1,1nephritis.Methods:Female albino rats were divided into three groups, control group,anti-Thy 1,1group and treatment with i.v.MSCs group.MSCs were derived from bone marrow of male albino rats,Y—chromosome gene was detected by polymerase chain reaction in the kidney.Serum urea and creatinine were estimated for all groups.Kidney of all studied groups was examined histologically and histochemically(total carbohydrates and total proteins).DNA fragmentation and expression ofα-SMA were delected. Results:Kidney of animals injected with anti-Thy 1,1showed inflammatory leucocytic infiltration, hypertrophied glomeruli, tubular necrosis and congestion in the renal blood vessels. The kidney tissue also showed reduction of carbohydrates and total proteins together with increase in apoptosis and in expression ofα-SMA.Moreover,the levels of urea and creatinine were elevated.Treating animals with MSCs revealed that kidney tissue displayed an improvement in the histological and histochemical changes.Apoptosis andα-SMA expression were decreased, and the levels of urea and creatinine decreased. Conclusions:The obtained results demonstrated the potential of MSCs to ameliorate the structure and function of the kidney in rats with anti-Thy 1,1 nephritis possibly through the release of paracrine growth factor(s).Saber Sakr Laila Rashed Waheba Zarouk Rania El-Shamy 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,3:3
Identification and characterization of tomato gibberellin 2-oxidases (GA2oxs) and effects of fruit-specific SlGA2ox1 overexpression on fruit and seed growth and development显示文摘Gibberellins(GAs)play a crucial role in growth and development of the tomato fruit.Previously published studies focusing on the effect of GAs on tomato fruits used chemical treatments, constitutive overexpression or silencing of GA biosynthetic and catabolic genes globally throughout the plant.Fruit-specific overexpression of GA catabolic enzyme genes GA2-oxidases(GA2oxs),however,may provide an alternative method to study the role of endogenous GAs on the fruit development. In this study,we have identified 11 SlGA2ox proteins in tomato that are classified into three subgroups.Motif analysis and multiple sequence alignments have demonstrated that all SlGA2oxs,except SlGA2ox10,have similar motif compositions and high-sequence conservation.Quantitative reverse transcription-PCR analysis has showed that SlGA2oxs exhibit differential expression patterns in tomato fruits at different developmental stages. When the fruit-specific promoter TFM7 was used to control the expression of SlGA2ox1,we observed no changes in growth and development of vegetative organs. However, fruit weight, seed number and germination rate were significantly affected. We also treated tomato fruits with GA biosynthesis inhibitor and observed phenotypes similar to those of the transgenic fruits.Furthermore,we have demonstrated that expression of cell expansion and GA responsive genes were downregulated in transgenic tomato fruits, supporting that overexpression of the SlGA2ox1 leads to reduction in endogenous GAs.This study provides additional evidence that endogenous GAs and the SlGA2ox1 gene play an important role in controlling on fruit weight, seed development and germination in tomato plant.Shen Chen Xiaojing Wang Liying Zhang Shanshan Lin Decai Liu Quanzhi Wang Shanya Cai Rania El-Tanbouly Lijun Gan Han Wu Yi Li 2016Horticulture Research2016,3,1:3
Maternal vitamin D level and vitamin D receptor gene polymorphism as a risk factor for congenital heart diseases in offspring; An Egyptian case-control study显示文摘Vitamin D&vitamin D receptor(VDR)signaling play a very crucial role in early embryonic heart development. We construct this case-control study to investigate the association between maternal serum vitamin D level&VDR gene Fok1 polymorphism and risk of congenital heart defects(CHD)in offspring.Fifty mothers who had term neonates with CHD were considered as cases.Fifty age-comparable healthy mothers who had neonates without CHD were contemplated as controls.Maternal serum 25 hydroxyvitamin D[25(OH)D]level was tested using ELISA.Maternal VDR gene Fok1 polymorphism was analyzed using PCR-based RFLP-assay.There was a significant decrease in maternal vitamin D level(P=0.002)and a significant increase in vitamin D deficient status(P=0.007)among cases when compared to controls.VDR gene Fok1 genotypes distribution frequency were in accordance with Hardy Weinberg equilibrium(HW)among controls.A significant increase in VDR gene Fok1 F/f&f/f genotypes and f allele were observed in cases compared to controls with estimated odds ratio(95%confidence interval)&P-value of 3(1e8)&P=0.006,11(1e97)&P=0.01 and 3(2e6)&P=0.001 respectively. There was a significant decrease in maternal vitamin D level in neonates with cyanotic CHD(P=0.000)compared to those with a cyanotic CHD while there was no significant difference in VDR Fok1 genotype(P=0.18)&allele(P=0.05)distribution between two groups. We concluded that maternal vitamin D deficiency and VDR gene Fok1 F/f,f/f genotype and f allele were associated with increased risk of CHD in offspring.Wesam A.Mokhtar Amal Fawzy Reem M.Allam Rania M.Amer Mona S.Hamed 2019Genes & Diseases2019,6,2:2
Polymeric nanocarriers for nose-to-brain drug delivery in neurodegenerative diseases and neurodevelopmental disorders显示文摘Neurodegenerative diseases are progressive conditions that affect the neurons of the central nervous system(CNS)and result in their damage and death.Neurodevelopmental disorders include intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and stem from the disruption of essential neurodevelopmental processes. The treatment of neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental conditions, together affecting~120 million people worldwide,is challenged by the blood—brain barrier(BBB)and the blood—cerebrospinal fluid barrier that prevent the crossing of drugs from the systemic circulation into the CNS.The nose-to-brain pathway that bypasses the BBB and increases the brain bioavailability of intranasally administered drugs is promising to improve the treatment of CNS conditions. This pathway is more efficient for nanoparticles than for solutions, hence, the research on intranasal nano-drug delivery systems has grown exponentially over the last decade.Polymeric nanoparticles have become key players in the field owing to the high design and synthetic flexibility. This review describes the challenges faced for the treatment of neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental conditions, the molecular and cellular features of the nasal mucosa and the contribution of intranasal nano-drug delivery to overcome them. Then,a comprehensive overview of polymeric nanocarriers investigated to increase drug bioavailability in the brain is introduced.Rania Awad Avi Avital Alejandro Sosnik 2023Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2023,13,5:2
Study of the prevalence and association of ocular chlamydial conjunctivitis in women with genital infection by Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma genitalium and Candida albicans attending outpatient clinic显示文摘AIM: To determine the association between chlamydial conjunctivitis and genital infection by Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma genitalium and Candida albicans, in addition to the possible relationship between cultured bacterial pathogens and oculogenital chlamydial infection.METHODS: This study was performed on 100(50 symptomatic and 50 asymptomatic) women attending the Gynecological and Obstetric outpatient clinic of Alzahra hospital, Alazhar University. Simultaneously a conjunctival swab was taken from these patients.Polymerase chain reaction(PCR) was done on DNA extracted from both vaginal and conjunctival swab samples. Culture for both vaginal and conjunctival swabs was also done.RESULTS: Candida albicans was the predominant organism isolated by culture in 20% and 40% of conjunctival and vaginal swabs respectively. By the PCR method, ocular Chlamydia trachomatis was present in 60% of symptomatic women, while genital Chlamydia trachomatis infection was present in 30% of symptomatic women. The results of this method also indicated that 25/50(50%) vaginal swabs were positive with PCR for Candida albicans versus 15/50(30%) were PCR positive in conjunctival swab. Mycoplasma genitalium was present in only 10% of vaginal swabs.Concomitant oculogenital PCR positive results for Chlamydia trachomatis and Candida albicans were 30% and 28% respectively.CONCLUSION: Ocular Chlamydia trachomatis was associated with genital Chlamydia trachomatis in a high percentage of women followed by Candida albicans.Cultured bacterial organisms do not play a role in enhancement of Chlamydia trachomatis infection.Rania Abdelmonem Khattab Maha Mohssen Abdelfattah 2016International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2016,9,8:2

Expression levels of pro-inflammatory interleukin-8 and certain antimicrobial peptides in concurrent with bacterial conjunctivitis显示文摘AIM:To detect the quantitative expression levels of the pro-inflammatory interleukin-8(IL8),antimicrobial peptides human beta defense-2(HBD2),and human beta defense-3(HBD3)genes in bacterial conjunctivitis.METHODS:The human conjunctival epithelial cells were obtained using the impression cytology technique from healthy controls and patients. The genes expression levels were determined utilizing a reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-q PCR).The contribution of causative agent type, the number of isolates and severity of clinical features,in the increase of genes expression was also determined.RESULTS:The RT-q PCR showed that IL8,HBD2,and HBD3 expression increased in bacterial conjunctivitis as compared to healthy control(P<0.001).In gram-negative bacterial conjunctivitis,HBD2 was highly up-regulated(P<0.001)compared to other types of bacterial conjunctivitis. In mixed bacterial conjunctivitis,a direct correlation between HBD2 up-regulation and HBD3 up-regulation was observed(P<0.05).The severity of clinical features was related to the up-regulation of IL8 and HBD2(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:IL8,HBD2,and HBD3 are immuneeffectors in infectious conjunctivitis.HBD2 is active during different bacterial conjunctivitis but is more released with gram-negative bacteria compared to gram-positive bacteria.HBD3 is an obvious defender in different bacterial conjunctivitis.Alaa El-Dien Shawky Hosny Zeinab El-Demerdash El-Bazza Mohammed Abdelhalim Ramadan Maha Ahmed Shafik Mahmoud Ahmed Shafeek Rania Abdelmonem Khattab 2021International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2021,14,5:2
Inflammatory bowel disease in rats:Bacterial and chemical interaction显示文摘AIM: To develop a novel model of colitis in rats, using a combination of iodoacetamide and enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC), and to elucidate the pathophysiologic processes implicated in the development of ulcerative colitis (UC). METHODS: Male Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 158) were inoculated intrarectally on a weekly basis with 4 different combinations: (a) 1% methylcellulose (MC), (b) 100 μL of 6% iodoacetamide (IA) in 1% MC, (c) 200 μL containing 4 × 108 colony factor units (CFU) of EPEC, and (d) combined treatment of (IA) followed by bacteria (B) after 2 d. Thirty days post treatment, each of the four groups was divided into two subgroups; the inoculation was stopped for one subgroup and the other subgroup continued with biweekly inoculation until the end of the experiment. Colitis was evaluated by the clinical course of the disease, the macroscopic and microscopic alterations, activity of myeloperoxidase (MPO), and by TNF-α gene expression. RESULTS: Findings indicative of UC were seen in the combined treatment (IA + B) as well as the IA conti-nued treatment groups: the animals showed slow rate of increase in body weight, diarrhea, bloody stools, high colonic ulcer score, as well as histological altera- tions characteristic of UC, with an extensive inflamma- tory reaction. During the course of the experiment, the MPO activity was consistently elevated and the TNF-α gene expression was upregulated compared to the control animals. CONCLUSION: The experimental ulcerative colitis model used in the present study resembles, to a great extent, the human disease. It is reproducible with characteristics indicative of chronicity.Inaya Abdallah Hajj Hussein Rania Tohme Kassem Barada Mostafa Hassan Mostafa Jean-Noel Freund Rosalyn A Jurjus Walid Karam Abdo Jurjus 2008World Journal of Gastroenterology2008,14,25:2
Biological silicon nanoparticles improve Phaseolus vulgaris L. yield and minimize its contaminant contents on a heavy metals-contaminated saline soil显示文摘The synthesis of biological silicon nano-particles(Bio-Si-NPs)is an eco-friendly and lowcost method. There is no study focusing on the effect of Bio-Si-NPs on the plants grown on saline soil contaminated with heavy metals. In this study,an attempt was made to synthesis Bio-Si-NPs using potassium silica florid substrate, and the identified Aspergillus tubingensis AM11 isolate that separated from distribution systems of the potable water.A twoyear field trial was conducted to compare the protective effects of Bio-Si-NPs(2.5 and 5.0 mmol/L)and potassium silicate(10 mmol/L)as a foliar spray on the antioxidant defense system,physio-biochemical components, and the contaminants contents of Phaseolus vulgaris L.grown on saline soil contaminated with heavy metals. Our findings showed that all treatments of Bio-Si-NPs and potassium silicate significantly improved plant growth and production, chlorophylls, carotenoids, transpiration rate, net photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, membrane stability index, relative water content, free proline, total soluble sugars,N,P,K,Ca2+,K+/Na+,and the activities of peroxidase, catalase, ascorbic peroxidase and superoxide oxide dismutase.Application of Bio-Si-NPs and potassium silicate significantly decreased electrolyte leakage,malondialdehyde,H2 O2,O2·-,Na+,Pb,Cd,and Ni in leaves and pods of Phaseolus vulgaris L.compared to control.Bio-Si-NPs were more effective compared to potassium silicate.Application of Bio-Si-NPs at the rate of 5 mmol/L was the recommended treatment to enhance the performance and reduce heavy metals content on plants grown on contaminated saline soils.Mohamed T.El-Saadony El-Sayed M.Desoky Ahmed M.Saad Rania S.M.Eid Eman Selem Ahmed S.Elrys 2021Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,8:2
Towards hepatitis C virus elimination:Egyptian experience, achievements and limitations显示文摘Worldwide, more than one million people die each year from hepatitis C virus(HCV) related diseases, and over 300 million people are chronically infected with hepatitis B or C. Egypt used to be on the top of the countries with heavy HCV burden. Some countries are making advances in elimination of HCV, yet multiple factors preventing progress; remain for the majority. These factors include lack of global funding sources for treatment, late diagnosis, poor data, and inadequate screening. Treatment of HCV in Egypt has become one of the top national priorities since 2007. Egypt started a national treatment program intending to provide cure for Egyptian HCV-infected patients. Mass HCV treatment program had started using Pegylated interferon and ribavirin between 2007 and 2014. Yet, with the development of highly-effective direct acting antivirals(DAAs) for HCV, elimination of viral hepatitis has become a real possibility. The Egyptian National Committee for the Control of Viral Hepatitis did its best to provide Egyptian HCV patients with DAAs. Egypt adopted a strategy that represents a model of care that could help other countries with high HCV prevalence rate in their battle against HCV. This review covers the effects of HCV management in Egyptian real life settings and the outcome of different treatment protocols. Also, it deals with the current and future strategies for HCV prevention and screening as well as the challenges facing HCV elimination and the prospect of future eradication of HCV.Dalia Omran Mohamed Alboraie Rania A Zayed Mohamed-Naguib Wifi Mervat Naguib Mohamed Eltabbakh Mohamed Abdellah Ahmed Fouad Sherief Sahar Maklad Heba Hamdy Eldemellawy Omar Khalid Saad Doaa Mohamed Khamiss Mohamed El Kassas 2018World Journal of Gastroenterology2018,24,38:2
