Design of efficient electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction based on 2D MXenes显示文摘The growing energy concern all over the world has recognized hydrogen energy as the most promising renewable energy sources.Recently, electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)by water splitting has been extensively studied with a focus on developing efficient electrocatalysts that can afford HER at overpotential with minimum power consumption. The two-dimensional transition metal carbides and nitride, also known as MXenes, are becoming the rising star in developing efficient electrocatalysts for HER,owing to their integrated chemical and electronic properties,e.g.,metallic conductivity, variety of redox-active transition metals, high hydrophilicity, and tunable surface functionalities. In this review, the recent progress about the fundamental understanding and materials engineering of MXenes-based electrocatalysts is summarized in concern with two aspects:i)the regulation of the intrinsic properties of MXenes, which include the composition, surface functionality, and defects;and ii)MXenes-based composites for HER process. In the end,we summarize the present challenges concerning the efficiency of MXenes-based HER electrocatalysts and propose the directions of future research efforts. | Yi Wei Razium A.Soomrob Xiuqiang Xie Bin Xu | 2021 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2021,30,4: | 11
The recent progress of pitch-based carbon anodes in sodium-ion batteries显示文摘Sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)have attracted significant attentions as promising alternatives to lithium-ion batteries for large-scale energy storage applications. Here carbon materials are considered as the most competitive anodes for SIBs based on their low-cost,abundant availability and excellent structural stability.Pitch, with high carbon content and low cost,is an ideal raw precursor to prepare carbon materials for large-scale applications.Nevertheless, the microstructures of pitch-based carbon are highly ordered with smaller interlayer distances, which are unfavorable for Na ion storage. Many efforts have been made to improve the sodium storage performance of pitch-based carbon materials. This review summarizes the recent progress about the application of pitch-based carbons for SIBs anodes in the context of carbon’s morphology and structure regulation strategies, including morphology adjustment, heteroatoms doping, fabricating heterostructures, and the increase of the degree of disorder.Besides, the advantages, present challenges, and possible solutions to current issues in pitch-based carbon anode are discussed, with the highlight of future research directions. This review will provide a deep insight into the development of low-cost and high-performance pitch-based carbon anode for SIBs. | Mingchi Jiang Ning Sun Razium Ali Soomro Bin Xu | 2021 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2021,30,4: | 5

Soft carbon-coated bulk graphite for improved potassium ion storage显示文摘Potassium-ion batteries(PIBs) have attracted tremendous attention for large-scale energy storage fields based on abundant potassium resources. Graphite is a promising anode material for PIBs due to its low potassium ion intercalation voltage and mature industrialized preparation technology. However, the inability of graphitic structures to endure large volume change during charge/discharge cycles is a major limitation in their advancement for practical PIBs. Herein, a soft carbon-coated bulk graphite composite is synthesized using PTCDA as a carbon precursor. The PTCDA-derived soft carbon coating layer with large interlayer distance facilities fast potassium ion intercalation/extraction in the BG@C composite and buffers severe volume change during the charge/discharge cycles. When tested as anode for PIBs, the composite realizes enhanced rate capability(131.3 mAh/g at 2 C, 1 C=279 m A/g) and cycling performance(capacity retention of 76.1% after 150 cycles at 0.5 C). In general, the surface modification route to engineer graphite anode could inherently improve the electrochemical performance without any structural alteration. | Xiaqing Chang Ning Sun Huanyu Zhou Razium ASoomro Bin Xu | 2023 | Chinese Chemical Letters2023,34,3: | 0
Progression in the Oxidation Stability of MXenes显示文摘MXenes are under the spotlight due to their versatile physicochemical characteristics. Since their discovery in 2011, significant advancements have been achieved in their synthesis and application sectors. However, the spontaneous oxidation of MXenes, which is critical to its processing and product lifespan, has gotten less attention due to its chemical complexity and poorly understood oxidation mechanism. This perspective focuses on the oxidation stability of MXenes and addresses the most recent advancements in understanding and the possible countermeasures to limit the spontaneous oxidation of MXenes. A section is dedicated to the presently accessible methods for monitoring oxidation, with a discussion on the debatable oxidation mechanism and coherently operating factors that contribute to the complexity of MXenes oxidation. The current potential solutions for mitigating MXenes oxidation and the existing challenges are also discussed with prospects to prolong MXene's shelf-life storage and expand their application scope. | Razium ASoomro Peng Zhang Baomin Fan Yi Wei Bin Xu | 2023 | Nano-Micro Letters2023,15,7: | 0
Organic salt-derived phosphorus-doped mesoporous carbon for high performance supercapacitors显示文摘Phosphorus-doped mesoporous carbons(PMCs)were prepared using a self-doping and self-templating approach via direct pyrolysis of sodium phytate(C_(6)H_(17)NaO_(24)P_(6)).The one-pot method allows simultaneous carbonization and P doping, eliminating the need for pre-synthesis or post-activation treatment. The C_(6)H_(17)NaO_(24)P_(6)is the source of both carbon and phosphorus, and the nano-Na_(4)P_(2)O_(7)particles produced during pyrolysis act as hard templates for the honeycomb mesoporous structure with high specific surface area(884–827m^(2)/g),large mesopore volume ratio(67%–75%)and rich phosphorus content(0.53–2.34 at%).As electrodes of supercapacitors in 6 mol/L KOH,the PMCs showed outstanding performance with a high capacitance of 202 F/g and excellent rate performance of 148 F/g at 30 A/g.In addition, the PMCs-based symmetrical supercapacitors can operate in an expanded working voltage of 0–1.6 V in 3mol/L H_(2)SO_(4)aqueous electrolytes with high-density energy of 11.8 Wh/kg. | Huan Liu Longfeng Hu Razium A.Soomro Bin Xu | 2023 | Chinese Chemical Letters2023,34,8: | 0
Microwave-assisted synthesis of L-cysteine-capped nickel nanoparticles for catalytic reduction of 4-nitrophenol显示文摘A simple and efficient microwave-assisted procedure for synthesis of L-cysteine-capped nickel nanoparticles(cyst-Ni NPs) in ethylene glycol solvent was demonstrated. The as-synthesised NPs were characterised by ultraviolet–visible(UV–Vis) spectrophotometer, Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and X-ray diffractometry(XRD). The cyst-Ni NPs are proved to be excellent heterogeneous catalysts for the 100% reduction of 4-nitrophenol(4-NPh) in the presence of reductant(Na BH4)within reaction time of 40 s. In contrast, Raney nickel in similar sample environments shows only 25.5% reduction. The kinetic and energetic behaviours of cyst-Ni NPs were also studied, and the reduction reaction is determined to follow pseudo-first-order kinetics with a rate constant value of 0.115 s-1 and activation energy of 36.1 kJ·mol-1. In addition to its high catalytic competence, cyst-Ni NPs catalyst exhibits excellent recyclability with negligible catalytic poisoning. | Nazar Hussain Kalwar Ayman Nafady Razium Ali Soomro Sirajuddin Syed Tufail Hussain Sherazi Abdul Rauf Khaskheli Keith Richard Hallam | 2015 | Rare Metals2015,34,10: | 0
