| 2 | The role of earthquake-induced landslides in erosion and weathering from active mountain ranges:Progress and perspectives显示文摘Earthquakes play a fundamental role in the evolution of Earth’s topography through co-seismic uplift and subsidence,as well as erosion through widespread landslides induced by ground motion.Earthquake-induced landslides can result in exceptional increases in the transfer of mass from landscapes,supplying sediment to rivers where impacts can last for decades or longer.Landslides can also erode vegetation and soils,in addition to exposing freshly ground rock mass,which can both result in regionally significant carbon transfers.Recent work has sought to quantify the fluxes,rates,and temporal patterns of the impacts on earth surface processes generated by these tectonic events.In this review,we focus on the impacts of earthquake-induced landslides on erosion and sediment flux,river water chemistry,and carbon export through the lens of the well-studied 2008 Wenchuan earthquake.We then discuss these themes in the context of works from the 1999 Taiwan Chi-Chi earthquake,2015 Nepalese Gorkha earthquake,and New Zealand historical earthquakes,altogether highlighting an important role of earthquake-induced landslides in erosion and weathering along tectonically active mountain ranges.We suggest that more monitoring,geochemical tracing,paleo-records,and/or modelling studies are needed to compare the processes and fluxes of catchment erosion and weathering before and after earthquake events,which will help to deepen our understanding not only of the impacts of earthquake-induced landslides on earth surface processes,but also the linkage among high magnitude events,continental erosion and weathering,and the long-term global carbon cycle. | Zhangdong JIN Robert G.HILTON AJoshua WEST Gen K.LI Fei ZHANG Jin WANG Gaojun LI Xuanmei FAN Meng-Long HSIEH | 2021 | Science China Earth Sciences2021，64，12： | 2 |
| 3 | Axial strain enhances osteotomy repair with a concomitant increase in connexin43 expression显示文摘The mechanical environment is known to influence fracture healing. We speculated that connexin43(Cx43) gap junctions, which impact skeletal homeostasis, fracture healing and the osteogenic response to mechanical load,may play a role in mediating the response of the healing bone to mechanical strain. Here, we used an established rat fracture model, which uses a 2 mm osteotomy gap stabilized by an external fixator, to examine the impact of various cyclical axial loading protocols(2%, 10%, and 30% strain) on osteotomy healing. We examined the presence of Cx43 in the osteotomy-healing environment and assessed how mechanical strain modulates Cx43 expression patterns in the callus. We demonstrated that increased cyclical axial strain results in increased radiographic and histologic bone formation. In addition, we show by immunohistochemistry that Cx43 is abundantly expressed in the healing callus, with the expression most robust in samples exposed to increased cyclical axial strain. | 10 | Cetuximab plus irinotecan in pretreated metastatic colorectal cancer patients:The ELSIE study显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of cetuxim-ab plus irinotecan in irinotecan-refractory metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients from South-East Asia and Australia. METHODS:In this open-label,phase Ⅱ study,the main eligibility criteria were epidermal growth factor receptor-positive mCRC with progressive disease within 3 mo of an irinotecan-based regimen as the most recent chemotherapy. Patients received cetuximab 400 mg/m2 initially,then 250 mg/m2 every week,with the same regimen of irinotecan on which the patients had progressed (4 pre-defined regim-ens allowed). The prim-ary objective was evaluation of progression-free survival (PFS) at 12 wk. Secondary objectives included a further investigation of PFS,and an assessment of the overall response rate (ORR),duration of response,time to treatment failure (TTF),overall survival and the safety profile. RESULTS:One hundred and twenty nine patients were enrolled from-25 centers in the Asia-Pacific region and of these 123 received cetuximab plus irinotecan. The most common recent irinotecan regimen used was 180 mg/m2 every 2 wk which had been used in 93 patients (75.6%). The PFS rate at 12 wk was 50% (95% confidence interval (CI,41-59) and m-edian PFS tim-e was 12.1 wk (95% CI:9.7-17.7). The ORR was 13.8% (95% CI:8.3-21.2) and disease control rate was 49.6% (95% CI:40.5-58.8). Median duration of response was 31.1 wk (95% CI:18.0-42.6) and median overall survival was 9.5 mo (95% CI,7.5-11.7). The median TTF was 11.7 wk (95% CI:9.1-17.4). Treatment was generally well tolerated.
