| 1 | The p75 neurotrophin receptor:at the crossroad of neural repair and death显示文摘The strong repair and pro-survival functions of neurotrophins at their primary receptors,Trk A,Trk B and Trk C,have made them attractive candidates for treatment of nervous system injury and disease.However,difficulties with the clinical implementation of neurotrophin therapies have prompted the search for treatments that are stable,easier to deliver and allow more precise regulation of neurotrophin actions.Recently,the p75 neurotrophin receptor(p75NTR) has emerged as a potential target for pharmacological control of neurotrophin activity,supported in part by studies demonstrating 1) regulation of neural plasticity in the mature nervous system,2) promotion of adult neurogenesis and 3) increased expression in neurons,macrophages,microglia,astrocytes and/or Schwann cells in response to injury and neurodegenerative diseases.Although the receptor has no intrinsic catalytic activity it interacts with and modulates the function of Trk A,Trk B,and Trk C,as well as sortilin and the Nogo receptor.This provides substantial cellular and molecular diversity for regulation of neuron survival,neurogenesis,immune responses and processes that support neural function.Upregulation of the p75 NTR under pathological conditions places the receptor in a key position to control numerous processes necessary for nervous system recovery.Support for this possibility has come from recent studies showing that small,non-peptide p75 NTR ligands can selectively modify pro-survival and repair functions.While a great deal remains to be discovered about the wide ranging functions of the p75 NTR,studies summarized in this review highlight the immense potential for development of novel neuroprotective and neurorestorative therapies. | Rick B.Meeker Kimberly S.Williams | 2015 | Neural Regeneration Research2015,10,5: | 12 |

| 3 | Seismic Performance Assessment of a Conventional Multi-storey Building显示文摘Recent earthquakes have revealed that conventional seismic design philosophy allows for large levels of nonstructural damage. Nonstructural earthquake damage results in extensive repair costs and lengthy functional disruptions, as nonstructural systems comprise the majority of building investment and are essential to building operations. A better understanding of the expected overall seismic performance of code-compliant buildings is needed. This study investigates the seismic performance of a conventional building. A 16-storey steel office building was designed using a modern seismic structural code(Eurocode 8). This study is the first to assess in detail the substantial earthquake repair costs expected in a modern Eurocode concentric braced frame structure, considering nonstructural systems with the FEMA P-58 procedure. The breakdown of total repair costs by engineering demand parameter and by fragility group is novel. The seismic performance assessment indicated that substantial earthquake repair costs are expected. Limitations of the Eurocode nonstructural damage methodology were revealed in a novel manner using FEMA P-58, as the prescribed drift limits did not minimize nonstructural repair costs. These findings demonstrate the need for design procedures that improve nonstructural seismic performance. | 7 | Evolutionary Process from Mockina bidentata to Parvigondolella andrusovi:Evidence from the Pizzo Mondello Section,Sicily,Italy显示文摘During their last phase of evolution,the pectiniform conodont elements manifested an evident trend of simplification and miniaturization.This phase started from the late Norian(Sevatian)in the Late Triassic and the evolutionary process of genus Mockina to Parvigondolella,in particular between Mockina bidentata and Parvigondolella andrusovi,is one of the most significant examples.Parvigondolella has been reported worldwide since it was first described in the early 1970s.However,it has recently been suggested that genus Parvigondolella is an ecostratigraphic morphotype of genus Mockina,and thus a phenotype controlled by the environmental conditions,and not an independent taxon.In the Pizzo Mondello Section(Sicily,Italy),transitional forms between M.bidentata and P.andrusovi have been found at different evolutionary stages.We have investigated the oceanic conditions at the time by using redox-sensitive elements(Mn,Fe,V,Cr,and Ni)and seawater temperatures from biogenetic δ^(18)Ophos to understand the possible environmental influences on the phylogenetic evolution between Mockina and Parvigondolella.The geochemical and isotope analyses indicate that the redox condition and temperature were stable during the evolution of genus Parvigondolella in Pizzo Mondello,confirming that genus Parvigondolella is a real taxon and not a phenotype.A new conodont species named Parvigondolella ciarapicae n.sp.is described here for the first time. | Yixing Du Tetsuji Onoue Viktor Karadi Ian S.Williams Manuel Rigo | 2021 | Journal of Earth Science2021,32,3: | 1 |

| 11 | Geographically distributed hybrid testing & collaboration between geotechnical centrifuge and structures laboratories显示文摘Distributed Hybrid Testing(DHT) is an experimental technique designed to capitalise on advances in modern networking infrastructure to overcome traditional laboratory capacity limitations. By coupling the heterogeneous test apparatus and computational resources of geographically distributed laboratories, DHT provides the means to take on complex, multi-disciplinary challenges with new forms of communication and collaboration. To introduce the opportunity and practicability afforded by DHT, here an exemplar multi-site test is addressed in which a dedicated fibre network and suite of custom software is used to connect the geotechnical centrifuge at the University of Cambridge with a variety of structural dynamics loading apparatus at the University of Oxford and the University of Bristol. While centrifuge time-scaling prevents real-time rates of loading in this test, such experiments may be used to gain valuable insights into physical phenomena, test procedure and accuracy. These and other related experiments have led to the development of the real-time DHT technique and the creation of a flexible framework that aims to facilitate future distributed tests within the UK and beyond.
