1Nitrogen in Relation to Photosynthetic Capacity and Accumulation of Osmoprotectant and Nutrients in Brassica Genotypes Grown Under Salt Stress显示文摘Different strategies of the application of nutrients are required to overcome the adverse effects of mustard (Brassica juncea L.) in response to NaCl stress. The objective of the present study was to determine if different added levels of nitrogen (N) in growth medium could alleviate the adverse effects of salt stress on photosynthetic capacity and accumulation of osmoprotectants and nutrients. 14 days mustard seedlings of salt-sensitive (cv. Chuutki) and salt-tolerant (cv. Radha) genotypes were fed with: (i) 0 mmol L-1 NaCl + 0 mg N kg-1 sand (control), (ii) 90 mmol L-1 NaCl + 30 mg N kg-1 sand, (iii) 90 mmol L-1 NaCl + 60 mg N kg-1 sand, (iv) 90 mmol L-1 NaCl + 90 mg N kg-1 sand and (v) 90 mmol L-1 NaCl + 120 mg N kg-1 sand. Under the condition of salinity stress, N application caused a significant ameliorative effect on both genotypes with respect to growth attributes [fresh weight (FW) and dry weight (DW)] and physio-biochemical parameters [percent water content (WC), net photosynthetic rate (PN), stomatal conductance (gs), total chlorophyll (Chl), carbonic anhydrase (CA) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA), nitrogen (N), potassium (K) and sodium (Na) contents, and K/Na ratio] and yield attributes (number of pods/plant, seeds/pod and seed yield/plant). The salt-tolerant genotype exhibited maximum value for growth, physio-biochemical and yield attributes at 60 mg N kg-1 sand than that of salt-sensitive genotype. 2Systematic review of emergent laparoscopic colorectal surgery for benign and malignant disease显示文摘Laparoscopic surgery has become well established in the management of both and malignant colorectal disease.The last decade has seen increasing numbers of surgeons trained to a high standard in minimallyinvasive surgery.However there has not been the same enthusiasm for the use of laparoscopy in emergency colorectal surgery.There is a perception that emergent surgery is technically more difficult and may lead to worse outcomes.The present review aims to provide a comprehensive and critical appraisal of the available literature on the use of laparoscopic colorectal surgery(LCS)in the emergency setting.The literature is broadly divided by the underlying pathology;that is,inflammatory bowel disease,diverticulitis and malignant obstruction.There were no randomized trials and the majority of the studies were case-matched series or comparative studies.The overall trend was that LCS is associated with shorter hospital stay,par or fewer complications but an increased operating time.Emergency LCS can be safely undertaken for both benign and malignant disease providing there is appropriate patient selection,the surgeon is adequately experienced and there are sufficient resources to allow for a potentially more complex operation.Manish Chand Muhammed RS Siddiqui Ashish Gupta Shahnawaz Rasheed Paris Tekkis Amjad Parvaiz Alex H Mirnezami Tahseen Qureshi 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,45:7

4Evaluation of chemopreventive effect of Fumaria indica against N-nitrosodiethylamine and CCl_4-induced hepatocellular carcinoma in Wistar rats显示文摘Objective:To investigation the chemopreventive potential of Fumaria indica(F.indica) extract(FIE) on N-nitrosodiethylamine and CCl4-induced hepatocarcinogenesis in Wislar rats.Methods:The experimental animals were divided into six groups(n=6).Hepatocellular carcinoma was induced by single intraperitoneal injection of N-nitrosodiethylamine(NDEA) in normal saline at a dose of 200 mg/kg body weight followed by weekly subcutaneous injections of CCl4(3 mL/kg/week) for 6 weeks,as the promoter of carcinogenic effect.After administration of the carcinogen,200 and 400 mg/kg of FIE were administered orally once a day throughout the study.At the end of 20 weeks,the body weight,liver weight and relative liver weight were measured.The percentage of nodule incidence and liver cancer markers such as aspartate transaminase(AST),alanine transaminase(ALT),alkaline phosphatase(ALP),γ-glutamyl transferase(γ-GT),total bilirubin level(TBL),α-feto protein(AFP) and carcinoembryonic antigen were estimated along with histopathological investigation in experimental groups of rats. Results:Obtained results demonstrated that the cotreatment with FIE significantly prevented the decrease of the body weight and also increased in relative liver weight caused by NDEA. The treatment with FIE significantly reduced the nodule incidence and nodule multiplicity in the rats after NDEA administration.The levels of liver cancer markers such as AST,ALT,ALP,γ-glutamyl transferase,TBL,AFP and carcinoembryonic antigen were substantially increased by NDEA treatment.However,FIE treatment significantly reduced the liver injury and restored the entire liver cancer markers.Histological observations of liver tissues too correlated with the biochemical observations.Conclusions:These finding powerfully supports that F.indica exert chemopreventive effect by suppressing the tumor burden and restoring the activities of hepatic cancer marker enzymes on NDEA and CCl4-induced hepatocarcinogenesis in Wistar rats.Talib Hussain Hefazat H Siddiqui Sheeba Fareed M Vijayakumar Chandana V Rao 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012,5,8:3
