Liver has a great regeneration capacity and currently, most studies point towards the dominant role of hepatocytes in regeneration at all levels of liver damage. The most frequent liver cancer is hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). Historical findings originally led to the idea that the cell of origin of HCC might be a progenitor cell. However, current linage tracing studies put the progenitor hypothesis of HCC origin into question. In agreement with their dominant role in liver regeneration, mature hepatocytes are emerging as the cell of origin of HCC, although, the specific hepatocyte subpopulation of origin is yet to be determined. The relationship between the cancer cell of origin(CCO) and cancer-propagating cells, known as hepatic cancer stem cell(HCSC) is unknown. It has been challenging to identify the definitive phenotypic marker of HCSC, probably due to the existence of different cancer stem cells(CSC) subpopulations with different functions within HCC. There is a dynamic interconversion among different CSCs, and between CSC and non-CSCs. Because of that, CSC-state is currently defined as a description of a highly adaptable and dynamic intrinsic property of tumor cells, instead of a static subpopulation of a tumor. Altered conditions could trigger the gain of stemness, some of them include: EMT-MET, epigenetics, microenvironment and selective stimulus such as chemotherapy. This CSC heterogeneity and dynamism makes them out reach from therapeutic protocols directed to a single target. | 10 | Characterization of Cd1-xZnxTe(0≤x≤1) Nanolayers Grown by Atomic Layer Deposition on GaSb and GaAs(001) Oriented Substrates显示文摘ZnTe, CdTe, and the ternary alloy CdZnTe are important semiconductor materials used widely for the detection of an important range of electromagnetic radiation as gamma ray and X-ray. Although, recently these materials have acquired renewed importance due to the new explored nanolayer properties of modern devices. In addition, as shown in this work they can be grown using uncomplicated synthesis techniques based on the deposition in vapour phase of the elemental precursors. This work presents the results obtained from the deposition of nanolayers of these materials using the precursor vapour on GaAs and GaSb (001) substrates. This growth technique, extensively known as atomic layer deposition (ALD), allows the layers growth with nanometric dimension. The main results presented in this work are the used growth parameters and the results of the structural characterization of the layers by the means of Raman spectroscopy measurements. Raman scattering shows the peak corresponding to longitudinal optical (LO)-ZnTe, which is weak and slightly redshift in comparison with that reported for the ZnTe bulk at 210 cm^-1. For the case of the CdTe nanolayer, Raman spectra presented the LO-CdTe peak, which is indicative of the successful growth of the layer. Its weak and slightly redshift in comparison with that reported for the CdTe bulk can be related with the nanometric characteristic of this layer. The performed high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HR-XRD) measurement allows to study some important characteristics such as the crystallinity of the grown layer. | 13 | Would behavioral thermoregulation enable pregnant viviparous tropical lizards to cope with a warmer world?显示文摘Sceloporus lizards depend on external heat to achieve their preferred temperature(Tsel)for performing physiological processes.Evidence both in the field and laboratory indicates that pregnant females of this Genus select body temperatures(Tb)lower than 34℃ as higher temperatures may be lethal to embryos.Therefore,thermoregulation is crucial for successful embryo development.Given the increase in global air temperature,it is expected that the first compensatory response of species that inhabit tropical climates will be behavioral thermoregulation.We tested whether viviparous Sceloporus formosus group lizards in the wild exhibited differences in thermoregulatory behavior to achieve the known Tsel for developing embryos regardless of local thermal conditions.We quantified field active body temperature,thermoregulatory behavior mechanisms(time of sighting,microhabitat used and basking time)and available microhabitat thermal conditions(i.e.operative temperature)for 10 lizard species during gestation,distributed along an altitudinal gradient.We applied both conventional and phylogenic analyses to explore whether Tb or behavioral thermoregulation could be regulated in response to different thermal conditions.These species showed no significant differences in field Tb during gestation regardless of local thermal conditions.In contrast,they exhibited significant differences in their behavioral thermoregulation associated with local environmental conditions.Based on these observations,the differences in thermoregulatory behavior identified are interpreted as compensatory adjustments to local thermal conditions.We conclude that these species may deal with higher temperatures predicted for the tropics by modulating their thermoregulatory behavior. | Saúl LÓPEZ-ALCAIDE Miguel NAKAMURA Eric N.SMITH Enrique MARTÍNEZ-MEYER | 2017 | Integrative Zoology2017,12,5: | 0 |
| 14 | Celecoxib enhances the detoxification of diethylnitrosamine in rat liver cancer显示文摘AIM:To study the effect of celecoxib(CXB) on diethylnitrosamine activation through the regulation of cytochrome P450 in a hepatocarcinogenesis model.METHODS:Six-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into fi ve groups,a non-treated group(NT) ,a diethylnitrosamine-treated group(DEN) ,a DEN+CXB-treated group(DEN+CXB) ,and CXB 8 d-treated and CXB 32 d-treated groups.The effects of celecoxib on the enzymatic activities of CYP1A1,2A,2B1/2,and 2E1 were assessed in hepatic microsomes 24 h after DEN administration.Changes in CYP1A1 and CYP2B1/2 protein expression were also evaluated.The rate of DEN metabolism was measured by the production of the deethylation metabolite acetaldehyde,and the denitrosation metabolite nitrite.RESULTS:DEN+CXB administration produced a significant increase in the enzymatic activities of CYP2B1/2 and 1A1,whereas it did not change the activities of CYP2A and 2E1,compared to that of the DEN group.CXB treatment for eight days did not produce a signif icant effect on enzymatic activity when compared to the NT group;however,when it was administered for prolonged times(CXB 32 d group) ,the enzymatic activities were increased in a similar pattern to those in the DEN+CXB group.The observed increase in the enzymatic activities in the DEN+CXB group was accompanied by an increase in the CYP2B1/2 protein levels;no changes were observed in the levels of CYP1A1.In vitro,CXB increased the denitrosation of DEN,a pathway of metabolic detoxification.The addition of SKF-525A,a preferential inhibitor of CYP2B,abrogated the denitrosation of DEN.CONCLUSION:These results suggest that the mechanism of action of CXB involves enhancement of the detoxif ication of DEN by an increasing denitrosation via CYP2B1/2. | Martha Estela Salcido-Neyoy Adolfo Sierra-Santoyo Olga Beltrán-Ramírez José Roberto Macías-Pérez Saúl Villa-Trevio | 2009 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2009,15,19: | 3 |

| 18 | The first record of dermochelyid turtles in the Eocene of Tierra del Fuego:new insights on the evolution of the Weddellian faunas显示文摘The Antarctic Paleogene marine fossil record has been the key to reconstructing the evolution of the Weddellian Sea and final dismemberment of Southern Gondwana.In this context,Eocene marine vertebrates from Seymour(Marambio)Island have provided valuable information.We present the first Eocene record of marine reptiles from the southern Atlantic Coast of South America.This corresponds to several postcranial turtle remains represented by a proximal end of the right humerus,three caudal and one thoracic vertebrae,a fragment of the left pubis,and ten ossicles of the dorsal carapace,coming from the Leticia Formation(late-mid Eocene)at Cabo Tiburones,Tierra del Fuego,Argentina.These materials show severalfeatures such as the size and general morphology of the humerus and vertebrae,and the presence of relatively small,irregular,smooth,and unkeeled ossicles,which allow us to assign them to Dermochelyidae indet.Dermochelyids are a cosmopolitan group ofcryptodiran turtles,registered from the late Cretaceous up to the recent,with some physiological-biological peculiarities(e.g.,endothermy and an exclusive jellyfish-based diet)and characterized by the presence of an osseous carapace formed by ossicles.The new finding from the Leticia Formation is an addition to the scarce and extremely fragmentary record of Eocene dermochelyids from the southern seas like those from the La Meseta and Submeseta formations(Antarctica)and the Waihao and Burnside formations(New Zealand).This new information allows us to discuss the presence of these turtles in such high latitudes in the past and its implication in the evolution of the Weddellian fauna. | Paula BONA Juliana STERLI Marcelo Saúl de la FUENTE Eduardo OLIVERO Marta S.FERNÁNDEZ Marcelo REGUERO | 2024 | Advances in Polar Science2024,35,1: | 0 |
