| 2 | Effect of honey on bacterial translocation and intestinal morphology in obstructive jaundice显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the effects of honey on bacterial translocation and intestinal villus histopathology in experimental obstructive jaundice.METHODS:Thirty Wistar-Albino rats were randomly divided into three groups each including 10 animals:group Ⅰ,sham-operated;group Ⅱ,ligation and section of the common bile duct(BDL);group Ⅲ,bile duct ligation followed by oral supplementation of honey(BDL+honey) 10 g/kg per day.Liver,blood,spleen,mesenteric lymph nodes,and ileal samples were taken for microbiological,light and transmission electrone microscopic examination.RESULTS:Although the number of villi per centimeter and the height of the mucosa were higher in sham group,there was no statistically significant difference between sham and BDL + honey groups(P>0.05).On the other hand,there was a statistically significant difference between BDL group and other groups(P<0.05).The electron microscopic changes werealso different between these groups.Sham and honey groups had similar incidence of bacterial translocation(P>0.05).BDL group had significantly higher rates of bacterial translocation as compared with sham and honey groups.Bacterial translocation was predominantly detected in mesenteric lymph nodes.CONCLUSION:Supplementation of honey in presence of obstructive jaundice ameliorates bacterial translocation and improves ileal morphology. | Cem Gencay Kemal Kismet Bulent Kilicoglu Serap Erel Mehmet Ali Akkus Sibel Serin Kilicoglu Sabahattin Muratoglu Asli Elif Sunay Esra Erdemli | 2008 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2008，14，21： | 8 |

| 6 | Serum beta 2-microglobulin as a biomarker in inflammatory bowel disease显示文摘AIM: To investigate the diagnostic utility of beta 2 microglobulin(B2-M) levels and analyze this correlation with the activity of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).METHODS: Overall, 78 IBD patients and 30 healthy controls were enrolled in the study. We examined B2-M serum levels in 43 ulcerative colitis(UC) patients, 35 with Crohn's disease(CD) and 30 control subjects, using an enzymatic method. Patients were divided into two groups according to two disease types: active and in remission. Subjects were also divided into two subgroups according to extent of the disease: left-side and pancolitis for UC and ileitis and ileocolitis for CD. All groups were compared for mean serum B2-M levels and also examined to see whether there was a correlation between serum B2-M levels and other inflammatory markers.RESULTS: The mean serum B2-M levels in the control group, UC and CD were 1.71, 2.41 and 2.24 respectively. B2-M values ≥ 1.96 mg/L had a 62% sensitivity, 76% specificity, a 79% positive predictive value, and a 58% negative predictive value for UC patients. B2-Mvalues ≥ 1.70 mg/L had 80% sensitivity, 53% specificity, 66% positive predictive value, and 69% negative predictive value for CD patients. Mean B2-M values were significantly higher in ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease patients than in healthy controls(UC 2.41 ± 0.87 vs 1.71 ± 0.44, P = 0.002; CD 2.24 ± 1.01 vs 1.71 ± 0.44, P = 0.033). Also, mean B2-M values were significantly higher in active disease when compared to patients in remission(UC 2.66 ± 0.92 vs 1.88 ± 0.41, P = 0.004; CD 2.50 ± 1.15 vs 1.73 ± 0.31, P = 0.033). Agardh (Chlorophyceae) Extract against Induction of Chromosome Aberration, Sister Chromatid Exchange and Micronuclei by Mutagenic Agent MMC显示文摘Objective To determine the in vitro possible clastogenic and cytotoxic activities of Ulva rigida crude extracts (URE), and identify their antigenotoxic and protective effects on chemotherapeutic agent mitomycine-C (MMC). Methods Anti-clastogenic and anti-genotoxic activities of Ulva rigida crude extracts (URE) were studied using chromosome aberration (CA), sister chromatid exchange (SCE), and micronuclei (MN) tests in human lymphocytes cultured in vitro. Results The chromosome aberration, sister chromatid exchange or micronuclei tests showed that URE at concentrations of 10, 20, and 40 μg/mL had no clastogenic activity in human lymphocyte cell culture. Three doses of URE significantly decreased the number of chromosomal aberrations and the frequencies of SCE and MN when compared with the culture treated with MMC (P<0.0001). | 8 | Neoadjuvant hyperfractionated accelerated radiotherapy plus concomitant 5-fluorouracil infusion in locally advanced rectal cancer: A phase Ⅱ study显示文摘AIM To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of neoadjuvant hyperfractionated accelerated radiotherapy(HART)and concurrent chemotherapy in patients with locally advanced infraperitoneal rectal cancer. METHODS A total of 30 patients with histopathologically confirmed T2-3/N0+ infraperitoneal adenocarcinoma of rectum cancer patients received preoperative 42 Gy/1.5 Gy/18 days/bid radiotherapy and continuous infusion of 5-fluorouracil(325 mg/m^2). All patients were operated 4-8 wk after neoadjuvant concomitant therapy. RESULTS In the early phase of treatment, 6 patients had grade Ⅲ-Ⅳ gastrointestinal toxicity, 2 patients had grade Ⅲ-Ⅳ hematologic toxicity, and 1 patient had grade Ⅴ toxicity due to postoperative sepsis during chemotherapy. Only 1 patient had radiotherapy-related late side effects, i.e., grade Ⅳ tenesmus. Complete pathological response was achieved in 6 patients(21%), while near-complete pathological response was obtained in 9(31%). After a median follow-up period of 60 mo, the local tumor control rate was 96.6%. In 13 patients, distant metastasis occurred. Disease-free survival rates at 2 and 5 years were 63.3% and 53%, and corresponding overall survival rates were 70% and 53.1%, respectively.CONCLUSION Although it has excellent local control and complete pathological response rates, neoadjuvant HART concurrent chemotherapy appears to not be a feasible treatment regimen in locally advanced rectal cancer, having high perioperative complication and intolerable side effects. | 9 | BRAF mutation in colorectal carcinomas with signet ring cell component显示文摘Objective:Signet ring cell carcinoma is a rare subtype of colorectal carcinoma(CRC)with an associated BRAFV600E mutation.We investigated frequencies of BRAF mutation in 28 CRCs containing variable signet ring cell component and their relation with clinicopathologic parameters.Methods:According to the presence of signet ring cell component,tumors were categorized into groups as follows:0%–9%,10%–24%,25%–49%,and>50%.Genomic DNA was isolated and analyzed for BRAF V600E gene mutation by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism.Eleven of 28 cases(39.3%)showed BRAFV600E mutation,which was also confirmed by Sanger sequencing.To elucidate the importance of existence of signet ring cell component at the molecular level,we separated cases into two groups with cut-off levels of 10%and 50%,which pertain to percentages of signet ring cells.Results:Seven of 19 cases(36.8%)under the threshold of 50%and four of nine cases(44.4%)over this threshold value demonstrated BRAF mutation.Three of 7 cases(42.8%)featuring<10%signet ring cell component and eight out of 21 cases(38.1%)showing>10%were BRAF mutated.Conclusions:BRAF mutation must be closely associated with the presence of malignant signet ring cells regardless of their percentages. | Serap Yalcin Onder Onguru | 2017 | Cancer Biology & Medicine2017，14，3： | 2 |

| 13 | Effects of honey as a scolicidal agent on the hepatobiliary system显示文摘AIM: To examine the effects of 10% diluted honey, which has been shown to be scolicidal, on the liver and biliary system and determine whether it could be used as a scolicidal agent in the presence of biliary-cystic communication. METHODS: Thirty Wistar-Albino rats were divided into two groups. Honey with 10% dilution in the study group and 0.9% saline (NaCl) in the control group were injected into the common bile ducts of rats through a 3-mm duodenotomy. The animals were sacrificed 6 mo after the procedure. Histopathological, biochemical, and radiological examinations were performed for evaluation of side effects. RESULTS: At the end of the sixth month, liver function tests were found to be normal in both groups. The tissue samples of liver and ductus choledochus of the honey group showed no histomorphologic difference from the control group. No stricture on the biliary tree was detected on the retrograde cholangiograms.
