2Using probiotics to improve swine gut health and nutrient utilization显示文摘To maintain a healthy gut is definitely key for a pig to digest and absorb dietary nutrients efficiently. A balanced microbiota(i.e., a healthy micro-ecosystem) is an indispensable constituent of a healthy gut.Probiotics, the live microorganisms which, when administered in adequate amounts, confer good health benefits onto the host, are a category of feed additives that can be used to replenish the gut microbial population while recuperating the host immune system. Besides their antitoxin and diarrhea reduction effects, dietary supplementation of probiotics can improve gut health, nutrient digestibilities and,therefore, benefit nutrient utilization and growth performance of pigs. Current knowledge in the literature pertinent to the beneficial effects of utilizing various probiotics for swine production has been comprehensively reviewed, and the safety and the risk issues related to probiotic usage have also been discussed in this paper. Considering that the foremost cost in a swine operation is feed cost, feed efficiency holds a very special, if not the paramount, significance in commercial swine production. Globally,the swine industry along with other animal industries is moving towards restricting and eventually a total ban on the usage of antibiotic growth promoters. Therefore, selection of an ideal alternative to the in-feed antibiotics to compensate for the lost benefits due to the ban on the antibiotic usage is urgently needed to support the industry for profitable and sustainable swine production. As is understood, a decision on this selection is not easy to make. 3Records of the East Asian winter monsoon from the mud area on the inner shelf of the East China Sea since the mid-Holocene显示文摘AMS14C dating and analysis of grain size,major elements and clay minerals were applied to Core MZ01 from the mud area on the inner shelf of the East China Sea.Based on the environmentally sensitive grain size,clay mineral and major element assemblages,the history of the East Asia winter monsoon since the mid-Holocene could be reconstructed.These three proxies,mean grain size(>9.71μm),chemical index of alteration(CIA)and ratio of smectite to kaolinite in particular,show similar fluctuation patterns. 4Clay mineral composition and their sources for the fluvial sediments of Taiwan Residents rivers显示文摘Located at the collision boundary between the Philippine Sea Plate and the Eurasian Continental Plate,the island of Taiwan is generally recognized as an important example in the MARGINS Program Science Plan and 'source-to-sink' research because of its high tectonic activity,heavy rainfall and unique geography.Large suspended sediment loads are transported to the adjacent ocean by Taiwan Residents rivers every year,making Taiwan an important source of sediments into the adjacent seas and a natural laboratory for studying the systemic movement of fluvial sediments from source to sink.A detailed study on the clay mineral composition of surface sediments collected from the drainage basins of 12 Taiwan Residents rivers using X-ray diffraction methods was conducted.Our results indicated that the clay mineral assemblages consisted dominantly of illite(approximately 73%) and chlorite(approximately 24%),with lesser abundances of kaolinite(approximately 3%) and even lower levels of smectite from the Danshuei River sediments in northwestern Taiwan.The Jhuoshuei River sediments from western Taiwan contained clay mineral assemblages that consisted of illite(approximately 75%) and chlorite(approximately 25%),but they lacked kaolinite and smectite.In southwestern Taiwan,the clay mineral assemblages were dominated by illite(approximately 75%) and chlorite(approximately 23%),but had a low abundance of kaolinite(generally < 2%) and no smectite.The clay mineral assemblages in eastern Taiwan are obviously different from those in western parts of the island.The most noticeable difference is that the average abundance of chlorite in the Hualien River from eastern Taiwan was the highest(approximately 48%) of all the Taiwan Residents rivers.We concluded that,in general,the clay mineral assemblages in Taiwan Residents rivers were mainly composed of illite and chlorite with kaolinite and smectite being scarce,and these trends are different from those in China's mainland rivers.The clay mineral composition shown in this study was primarily determined by the properties of the bedrock,and the differential weathering intensities of the drainage area.The surface sediments in Taiwan's rivers showed a greater abundance of illite and chlorite because the outcropped rocks were mainly composed of Tertiary sedimentary rocks,especially sandstone,shale and slate,and show strong physical weathering.The relatively high relief and more abundant rainfall also caused the clay minerals in the fluvial sediments to be transported to the estuaries down rivers from the mountains and then delivered to the adjacent seas by currents and waves over a shorter time scale.LI ChuanShun SHI XueFa KAO ShuhJi CHEN MinTe LIU YanGuang FANG XiSheng LUE HuaHua ZOU JianJun LIU ShengFa QIAO ShuQing 2012Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,6:23
5Major and trace element geochemistry of the mid-Bay of Bengal surface sediments: implications for provenance显示文摘The major and trace elements in 110 surface sediment samples collected from the middle of the Bay of Bengal(mid-Bay of Bengal) are analyzed to investigate provenance. Si levels are highest, followed by Al, and the distributions of these two elements are identical. The average CIA*(chemical index of alteration) value is 72.07,indicating that the degree of weathering of the sediments in the study area is intermediate between those of sediments of the Himalayan and Indian rivers. Factor analyses and discrimination function analyses imply that the two main provenances are the Himalayan and the Indian continent. The inverse model calculation of the Tinormalized element ratios of the Bay of Bengal sediments indicate an estimated average contribution of 83.5%and 16.5% from the Himalayan and peninsular Indian rivers to the study area, respectively. The Himalayan source contributes more sediment to the eastern part of the study area, whereas the western part receives more sediment from the Indian Peninsula than did the eastern part. 6Sequential transcatheter arterial chemoembolization,three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy,and high-intensity focused ultrasound treatment for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma patients显示文摘The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcome of patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) treated by sequential therapy of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE),three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy(3-DCRT) and high-intensity focused ultrasound(HIFU).From October,2005 to September,2010,120 patients with unresectable HCC received the sequential treatments of several courses of TACE followed in 2-4 weeks by 3-DCRT and then a single session of HIFU with a curative intent.The median tumor irradiation dose was 40 Gy.Tumor response,toxicity and overall survival rate were analyzed.Clinicopathologic factors affecting the primary technique effectiveness and overall survival rates were investigated by univariate analysis or multivariate analysis.All 120 HCC patients were followed up by the last follow-up time.Among these patients,hepatic toxicities due to treatment were notable in 9 cases.Gastrointestinal bleeding after the overall treatment occurred in 2 cases,leukopenia of grade III was detected in 1 case,radiation-induced liver disease(RILD) was observed in 2 patients,and first-and second-degree skin burn around the HIFU treatment zone were observed in 2 patients and 1 patient,respectively.Among 120 patients,23,83 and 14 cases achieved partial response,stable disease and progressive disease,respectively.The overall survival rates at 1 year,3 years and 5 years were 70%,35% and 15%,respectively,with a median survival time of 26 months.Both Child-Pugh liver function grading and radiation dose were determined to be independent predictors for overall survival revealed by the multivariate analysis.It is concluded that the sequential therapy of TACE,3-DCRT and HIFU is a promising therapeutic regimen for unresectable HCC.Shengfa Ni Lingxiang Liu Yongqian Shu 2012The Journal of Biomedical Research2012,26,4:9
7Field measurements of settling velocities of fine sediments in Three Gorges Reservoir using ADV显示文摘The Three Gorges Reservoir(TGR) is suffering from unexpected fine sediment deposition,to better understand the fine sediment transport processes,field measurements were conducted at the Zhongxian and Fengjie reaches.A method based on the sediment diffusion equation was proposed to measure the settling velocities using the Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter(ADV).The backscatter acoustic intensities(BSI) received from the ADV were calibrated against the sediment concentrations measured via water sampling,suggesting a linear relationship in double logarithmic coordinate system.The instantaneous sediment concentration was calculated using the derived relationship,and then the settling velocity was obtained through the proposed procedure.The settling velocities of the fine particles in the TGR were found to vary with the water depth.Most of the effective settling velocities were within the range of 0.1-10 mm/s,which were larger than those of the primary particles,indicating that the flocculation was likely to occur in the TGR.Additionally,it is suggested that the turbulent motion played an important role in the flocculation in the TGR.Wenjie Li Shengfa Yang Jiang Hu Xuhui Fu Peng Zhang 2016International Journal of Sediment Research2016,31,3:6
8Distribution of major and trace elements in surface sediments of Hangzhou Bay in China显示文摘The Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer was used to analyze sediment samples collected from the Hangzhou Bay to determine major and trace elemental concentrations. Based on these concentrations, the study area can be classified into three geochemical provinces. Province I covers the northern Hangzhou Bay area and contains high concentrations of Al_2 O_3 , Fe_2 O_3 , MgO, Na_2 O, K_2 O, MnO, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, V, Co and Zn. Province III is located in the western Hangzhou Bay, near the Qiantang River mouth, and contains high concentrations of SiO_2 , Na_2 O, P_2 O_5 , TiO_2 , Cr, Sr, Zr. Province II is located in the middle and eastern Hangzhou Bay, with the medium concentrations of major and trace elements. The results also demonstrate that the grain size is the dominating factor controlling the spatial variations of elemental concentrations, and the Changjiang River (Yangtze River) and Qiantang River sediments play an important role in the distribution of these elements. 9Experimental investigation on propagating characteristics of sinusoidal unsteady flow in open-channel with smooth bed显示文摘A high accuracy experimental system has been established for unsteady open-channel flow.Then 40 experiments were conducted to study the propagating characteristics of unsteady open-channel flow.From the experimental data,the variation law of propagating velocity,wave deformation rate,flow depth of wave peak and bottom,and other parameters were obtained.The experimental results show the followings.1) The propagating velocity of unsteady open-channel flows can be expressed by the sum of flow velocity and micro-amplitude wave velocity at wave peak.2) The waveform of an unsteady flow would deform when it propagates,with the rising stage becoming longer and the falling stage shorter;the deformation rate is a function of distance,period and relative amplitude of discharge.3) The flow depths of wave peak and bottom have a close relationship with the period of the unsteady flow.When the period is short,water depths of wave peak and bottom are both close to those of the average discharge in the condition of uniform flow.For a long period unsteady flow,the water depth of wave peak is close to that of the maximal discharge in the condition of uniform flow,while at the flow wave bottom,it is close to the depth of the minimum discharge in an uniform flow.4) Propagating characteristic of discharge is analogous to that of flow depth for unsteady flow.HU Jiang YANG ShengFa FU XuHui 2012Science China(Technological Sciences)2012,55,7:4

11The mechanism of farmland marginalization in Chinese mountainous areas:Evidence from cost and return changes显示文摘Farmland marginalization has become the main trend of Iand-use change in the mountainous areas of China.Using annual survey data of major agricultural production costs and earnings at national and provincial levels in China,this study aims to analyze the reasons and mechanism behind farmland marginalization in mountainous areas.We find that farmers on plains are able to reduce their per mu labor input effectively through in tensive use of agricultural machinery,which has minimized the impact of the increase in labor price.However,it is extremely challenging for farmers in mountainous areas to use the same method owing to the rough terrain.Thus,per laborer farming area in these areas has increased relatively slowly,causing a widening gap in agricultural labor productivity between the two regions.With the rapid rise in labor costs since 2003,the marginalization of cultivated land in mountainous areas is evident.In 2013,the net profit of agricultural production in mountainous China fell below zero.Since 2000,the Iand-use and land?cover change in these areas was characterized by the reduction of farmland area,reforestation,and the enhancement of the NDVI value.The high correlation between the NDVI change rate and the ratio of change in farmland(r=-0.70)and forest(r=0.91)in mountainous areas at provincial level further attests to the trend of farmla nd margi nalization there.Fin ally,we summarize the mecha nism of such marginalization against the backdrop of the rapid increase in the opport unity cost of farming and the rapid fall of agricultural labor forces in mountainous areas.This study contributes to a deep understanding of the development process of farmland marginalization and abandonment as well as forest transition in Chinese mountainous areas.LI Shengfa LI Xiubin 2019Journal of Geographical Sciences2019,29,4:4
12Environmental record from the mud area on the inner continental shelf of the East China Sea since the mid-Holocene显示文摘Paleoclimate record was revealed in Core MZ01 covering the mid-Holocene in age,located in the mud area of the inner continental shelf of the East China Sea. The ancient environment featured low-energy shallow sea shelf deposition formed mainly by coastal currents. The results show that temporal variation in geochemistry corresponds with the climate changes inferred from historical record. Relatively low MgO/Al 2 O 3,CaO/K 2 O and high Al 2 O 3 /Na 2 O,K 2 O/Na 2 O,MnO/CaO values reflected a warm and humid climate in general,and vice versa. Therefore,these chemical indices could be applied to identify the variation of palaeoclimate in eastern China. The authors reconstructed the history of mid-Holocene climatic variation of the inner continental shelf of the East China Sea. From 8 300 a BP to 4 200 a BP,the climate was moderately warm and humid. From 4 200 a BP to 2 000 a BP,the climate turned cool and dry,and the regional climate frequently fluctuated in alternation of cool-dry periods(3 700 a BP,2 850 a BP and 2 400 a BP) and warm-wet periods(3 250 a BP and 2 650 a BP) . 13INCIPIENT MOTION OF COARSE PARTICLES IN HIGH GRADIENT RIVERS显示文摘In Northwest China, there are many inland rivers that are characterized by high a gradient, coarse particles, a thick pebble and gravel layer, and small discharge and shallow water depth during the flood season. In these rivers, the motion of coarse particles has an important influence on the construction of various structures related to these rivers. In this study, the law of the motion of coarse particles is investigated in high gradient rivers. First, according to the rolling mode of particle motion, the forces acting on coarse particles were analyzed, and a formula was deduced to represent the incipient drag force for uniform coarse particles in a high gradient river. The flow velocity near the river bed, resistance coefficient, and weight of a coarse particle were taken into account to obtain the formula, which indicated that the incipient drag force is not related to the sediment Reynolds number, but closely related to the Froude number, which was also true for the Maxwell formula. Next, after comparing the various criteria for incipient motion of sediment, experiments were done to obtain data and determine the incipient motion of coarse particles. Based on the experiments, it was concluded that the motion type of “embedded” coarse material belongs to the motion of contact load, and the nondimensional unit-width sediment transport rate, which was put forward by Taylor in 1971, was chosen as the criterion in this study. Finally, based on the experimental data, the drag force formula was calibrated. The computed drag force agreed well with the measured values. Moreover, the formula derived in this study was compared with the Maxwell formula, another formula to study the incipient motion of particles in step-shaped mountainous rivers. 14Estimating instantaneous concentration of suspended sediment using acoustic backscatter from an ADV显示文摘The measurement of instantaneous sediment concentration remains a challenging task. In this study, a three-step procedure is proposed to estimate instantaneous sediment concentration using acoustic backscatter from Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV). The influences of acoustic noise and particle diameter on an ADV's performance was first tested in the laboratory, then the three-step procedure was verified based on field measurements in the Zhongxian and Fengjie reaches in the Three Gorges Reservoir. The first step involves reconstructing the backscatter signal time series. Due to contamination from both the noise floor and spurious spikes, the denoising-despiking method was applied instead of the traditional velocity-despiking methods, and this approach performed well based on spectrum ana-lysis. The second step involves calibrating the sediment concentration against the backscatter signal. A linear relation, whose slope and intercept were calibrated to be dependent on particle diameter, is proposed in double logarithmic coordinates. The third step involves calculating the instantaneous sediment concentration using reconstructed instantaneous backscatter based on the proposed relation. 17Influence of Cerium on Corrosion of AZ91 Magnesium Alloy显示文摘Effect of cerium addition on corrosion resistance of AZ91 magnesium alloy was investigated using the static weight loss and polarization curve method as well as metallographical observation. The results indicate that a small amount of cerium (0.2%~0.8%) in AZ91 magnesium alloy can significantly reduce the corrosion rate, enhance the electrode voltage and lower corrosion current density in 3.5%NaCl aqueous solution, and AZ91-0.8%Ce alloy has better corrosion resistant performance.
