| 1 | Antioxidant drugs to prevent post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography pancreatitis:What does evidence suggest?显示文摘AIM:To determine whether or not the use of antioxidant supplementation aids in the prevention of post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography pancreatitis.METHODS:A systematic review of randomized controlled trials(RCTs) was made to evaluate the preventive effect of prophylactic antioxidant supplementation in post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography pancreatitis(PEP).The inclusion criteria included:acute post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography pancreatitis in adults; randomized clinical trials with the use of any antioxidant as an intervention compared with placebo,to reduce PEP.The outcome measure was the incidence and severity of PEP.Twelve RCTs involving 3110 patients since 1999 wereincluded.The antioxidants used were selenite,β-carotene,and pentoxifylline(each one in one trial),N-acetylcysteine(NAC) in three trials,and allopurinol in six trials.The group of patients treated with NAC received different doses; either oral or intravenous,and allopurinol-treated patients received five different oral doses in two different administration periods.The results are expressed with raw numbers,proportions,as well as mean and standard deviations.The incidence of pancreatitis between groups was analyzed with Pearson's χ2 test or Fisher's exact test(F).The main outcome is expressed as relative risks and 95%CI.RESULTS:The incidence of pancreatitis in all antioxidant treatment groups was 8.6%,whereas it was 9.7% in the control group.The antioxidants used were selenite,β-carotene,and pentoxifylline(each one in one trial),NAC in three trials,and allopurinol in six trials.In allopurinol trials,three different dosifications were used; two trials reported a low dosage(of less than 400 mg),two trials reported a moderate dose(600 mg) and the remaining two employed higher doses(more than 900 mg).Supplementation was not associated with a significant reduction in the incidence of PEP [relative risk(RR) = 0.93; 95%CI:0.82-1.06; P = 0.28].In addition,the incidences of PEP in patients treated with allopurinol and those treated with other antioxidants were similar to that observed in patients who received the placebo(RR for trials with allopurinol,0.92; 95%CI:0.78-1.08; P = 0.31) and,with the use of other antioxidants,the incidence of PEP was 8.9%,whereas it was 9.7% in the control group(RR = 0.95; 95%CI:0.77-1.18; P = 0.19).CONCLUSION:Antioxidant supplementation shows no beneficial effect on the incidence of PEP.There is a lack of robust trials to support the use of antioxidants for prevention. | Clotilde Fuentes-Orozco Carlos Davalos-Cobian Jesus Garcia-Correa Gabriela Ambriz-Gonzalez Michel Dassaejv Macias-Amezcua Jesus Garcia-Renteria Jorge Rendon-Felix Mariana Chavez-Tostado Lizbeth Araceli Cuesta-Marquez Andrea Socorro Alvarez-Villasenor Ana Olivia Cortes-Flores Alejandro Gonzalez-Ojeda | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,21: | 6 |
| 2 | Characterization of the negative carbon isotope shift in segment C2,its global implications as a harbinger of OAEla显示文摘Lower Cretaceous C-isotope records show intermittent negative/positive spikes,and consistent patterns of coeval chemostratigraphic curves thus document shifts that signal simultaneous responses of temporal changes in the global carbon reservoir.The standard pattern registered by theδ^(13)C_(org)andδ^(13)C_(carb)in Lower Aptian sediments includes distinct isotope segments C1 to C8(Menegatti et al.,1998).In the El Pui section,Organya Basin,Spain,C-isotope segment C2 is the longest interval preceding segments C3-C6 associated with oceanic anoxic event la(OAE la),and reveals a distinct negative shift of^1.8‰to^2.23‰defining the C-isotope pattern within that interval.Total inorganic carbon(TIC),total organic carbon(TOC),δ^(13)C_(org),microfacies,n-alkanes show no difference before,during,or after the negative inflection.The biomarkers indicate that organic matter(OM)mainly originates from algal/microbial sources because short-chain length homologues(≤nC_(19))dominate.nC_(20)through nC_(25)indicate some contribution from aquatic vegetation,but little from higher plants(>nC_(25)),as also suggested by the terrestrial/aquatic ratio of n-alkanes or(TAR)=[(nC_(27)+nC_(29)+nC_(31))/(nC_(15)+nC_(17)+nC_(19))](averages 0.085).We suggest that conjoint pulses of contemporaneous LIPs(Ontong Java)and massive explosive volcanism in northeast Asia,the Songliao Basin(SB-V),best conform to plausible causes of the negative intra-C2 carbon isotopic excursion(CIE)at that time.Because of its apparent common occurrence the intra-C2 inflection could be a useful marker harbinger to the more pronounced CIE C3,the hallmark of OAE1a. | Jander SOCORRO Florentin J-M. | 3 | Microhardness,Microstructure and Electrochemical Efficiency of an Al(Zn/xMg) Alloy after Thermal Treatment显示文摘The influence of Mg on the microhardness,microstructure and electrochemical efficiency of Al(Zn/xMg) alloys have been investigated.Al(Zn/xMg) alloys were prepared by metal mould casting method to diminish the process cost and to generate an alloy with homogenous microstructure and less casting porosity.Vickers hardness,X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy were performed to determine the Mg influence on the AlZn alloy.Electrochemical efficiency was used to relate the influence of Mg with the thermal treatment on the corrosion behavior of the Al(Zn/xMg) alloy.The results reveals the presence of Al 32(MgZn) 49 phase for two events;the first is when the Mg content is above 5.49% in as-cast condition,and the second after the thermal treatment is carried out at 450℃ for 5 h.The results also show that the microhardness and electrochemical efficiency have been influenced by the presence of Al 32(MgZn) 49 phase.The addition of Mg modifies the microstructure,increases the content of Al 32(MgZn) 49 phase and improves the electrochemical efficiency. | Socorro Valdez M.Suarez O.A.Fregoso J.A.Juárez-Islas | 2012 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2012,28,3: | 4 |
| 4 | Monograph of Carex section Schiedeanae (Cyperaceae): Unexpected taxonomic and ecological diversity in a Mexican sedge clade显示文摘Carex section Schiedeanae(subg.Euthyceras)has long been thought to comprise at most five species of Mexican sedges.Our morphological studies in the field and herbarium,however,supported by more recent DNA sequencing work,demonstrate that the section is,in fact,three times as species-rich,making it one of the largest sections in Mexico.Its 15 species range from Chihuahua to Tamaulipas south to Veracruz and Oaxaca;a single species,Carex muriculata,extends into the United States.The section has unusual inflorescences with simple(except in Carex complexa),uniformly androgynous,sessile spikes,utriculiform dadoprophylls,and perigynia with a unique combination of pubescence types composed of papillae;unicellular,simple hairs;and(in many species)multicellular tubercles.We recognize five previously described species(C.muriculata,Carex perstricta,Carex schiedeana,Carex stellata,and Carex vizarronensis)and describe 10 additional species(Carex angustilepis,Carex cabralii,Carex complexa,Carex dentata,Carex gypsophila,Carex mesophila,Carex paneroi,Carex planilamina,Carex revoluta,and Carex tehuacana).We have expanded the morphological features used in the section to include particularly anther,staminate scale,and style features,and more detailed micromorphology of the perigynia,especially indumentum.In total,13 of the 15 species recognized herein,with a total of 32 individuals,were examined for ETS and ITS for phylogenetic reconstruction.Phylogenetically,the xeric species(plus C.paneroi)form a grade leading to a clade of the more mesophytic species adapted to forest understories,plus the unique cliff dwelling C.complexa. | Anton A.Reznicek Maria del Socorro Gonzalez-Elizondo Marlene Hahn Mira Gamer Andrew L.Hipp | 2021 | Journal of Systematics and Evolution2021,59,4: | 4 |
