1Comparative study of chitosan/fibroin–hydroxyapatite and collagen membranes for guided bone regeneration in rat calvarial defects: micro-computed tomography analysis显示文摘This study aimed to utilize micro-computed tomography(micro-CT)analysis to compare new bone formation in rat calvarial defects using chitosan/fibroin–hydroxyapatite(CFB–HAP)or collagen(Bio-Gide)membranes.Fifty-four(54)rats were studied.A circular bony defect(8 mm diameter)was formed in the centre of the calvaria using a trephine bur.The CFB–HAP membrane was prepared by thermally induced phase separation.In the experimental group(n518),the CFB–HAP membrane was used to cover the bony defect,and in the control group(n518),a resorbable collagen membrane(Bio-Gide)was used.In the negative control group(n518),no membrane was used.In each group,six animals were euthanized at 2,4 and 8 weeks after surgery.The specimens were then analysed using micro-CT.There were significant differences in bone volume(BV)and bone mineral density(BMD)(P,0.05)between the negative control group and the membrane groups.However,there were no significant differences between the CFB–HAP group and the collagen group.We concluded that the CFB–HAP membrane has significant potential as a guided bone regeneration(GBR)membrane.Jae Min Song Sang Hun Shin Yong Deok Kim Jae Yeol Lee Young Jae Baek Sang Yong Yoon Hong Sung Kim 2014International Journal of Oral Science2014,6,2:15

3Nucleation and growth behavior of coating film on Mg–Al–Zn alloy with different surface topographies via plasma electrolytic oxidation显示文摘This work was made to investigate how nucleation and growth behavior of the coating film were affected by surface topographies of Mg–Al–Zn alloy substrate during the initial stage of plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO).To satisfy this end,a single substrate was prepared by mechanical treatment exhibiting rough and smooth regions with an equal area on the surface.The rough region with prominent hills and grooves induced the breakdown of passive film,which was indicated by an early appearance of plasma discharge on the rough region since nucleation of coating film occurred preferentially around the hills.However,the coating film grown on the grooves was somewhat thicker and more porous than the film grown on the hills and smooth regions.This was due to the fact that the growth of the coating film was found to be localized in the presence of rough region,which was in line with the discharge activities.Herein,the nucleation and growth behavior during the initial stage of PEO will be discussed schematically on the basis of microstructural interpretation.Nisa Nashrah Sung Hun Baek Young Gun Ko 2022Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2022,10,8:0
4Factors Affecting the Genetic Diagnostic Rate in Congenital Heart Disease显示文摘Background: Over 400 genes contribute to the development of congenital heart disease (CHD). Additionally,multisystemic manifestations accompanying syndromic CHD pose a higher risk of genetic diseases. This studyinvestigated the diagnostic yield of whole-exome sequencing (WES) in patients with sporadic syndromic CHDand the phenotypic factors affecting the genetic diagnostic rate. Methods: Sixty-four patients with sporadic syndromicCHD aged <18 years underwent WES between May 2018 and December 2020 in a single tertiary center,and the association between genetic testing data and extracardiac phenotypes was analyzed. Results: Extracardiacphenotypes were measured as 3.66 ± 3.05 (standard deviation, interquartile range: 2–5) items per patient. WESdetected diagnostic variants in 19 (29.7%) patients: seven (36.8%), seven (36.8%), and five (26.3%) with pathogenicvariants, likely pathogenic variants, and variants of unknown significance, respectively. Post-diagnosis surveillanceidentified the extracardiac phenotype in 54.5% (6/11) of patients. De novo variants accounted for 76.2%(15/19) of variants and autosomal dominant inheritance for 94.7% (18/19). Most diseases were ultra-rare. No significantdifferences were noted in cardiac and extracardiac phenotypes, single or combined (all P > 0.05), betweenthe groups with and without a diagnostic variant. However, patients with ≥3 extracardiac phenotypes had a significantlyhigher likelihood of having a diagnostic variant than those with ≤2 (38.3% vs. 5.9%, odds ratio = 9.93,95% confidence interval = 1.21–81.44, P = 0.013). Conclusions: The number of extracardiac phenotypes is importantin predicting the possibility of genetic diagnosis.
