| 1 | Absolute monocyte and lymphocyte count prognostic score for patients with gastric cancer显示文摘AIM:To measure the prognostic significance of absolute monocyte count/absolute lymphocyte count prognostic score(AMLPS) in patients with gastric cancer.METHODS:We retrospectively examined the combination of absolute monocyte count(AMC) and absolute lymphocyte count(ALC) as prognostic variables in a cohort of 299 gastric cancer patients who underwent surgical resection between 2006 and 2013 and were followed at a single institution. Both AMC and ALC were dichotomized into two groups using cut-off points determined by receiving operator characteristic curve analysis. An AMLPS was generated, which stratified patients into three risk groups:low risk(both low AMC and high ALC),intermediate risk(either high AMC or low ALC),and high risk(both high AMC and low ALC).The primary objective of the study was to validate the impact of AMLPS on both disease-free survival(DFS) and overall survival(OS),and the second objective was to assess the AMLPS as an independent prognostic factor for survival in comparison with known prognostic factors.RESULTS:Using data from the entire cohort, the most discriminative cut-off values of AMC and ALC selected on the receiver operating characteristic curve were 672.4/μL and 1734/μL for DFS and OS.AMLPS risk groups included 158(52.8%) patients in the lowrisk,128(42.8%) in the intermediate-risk,and 13(4.3%) in the high-risk group. With a median followup of 37.2 mo(range:1.7-91.4 mo),five-year DFS rates in the low-,intermediate-,and high-risk groups were 83.4%,78.7%,and 19.8%,respectively.And fiveyear OS rates in the low-,intermediate-,and high-risk groups were 89.3%,81.1%,and 14.4%,respectively.On multivariate analysis performed with patient- and tumor-related factors,we identified AMLPS,age, and pathologic tumor-node-metastasis stage as the most valuable prognostic factors impacting DFS and OS.CONCLUSION:AMLPS identified patients with a poor DFS and OS,and it was independent of age, pathologic stage, and various inflammatory markers. | Wan Kyu Eo Da Wun Jeong Hye Jung Chang Kyu Yeoun Won Sung Il Choi Se Hyun Kim Sung Wook Chun Young Lim Oh Tae Hwa Lee Young Ok Kim Ki Hyung Kim Yong Il Ji Ari Kim Heung Yeol Kim | 2015 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,9: | 6 |
| 2 | Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is associated with coronary artery disease in Koreans显示文摘AIM:To investigate whether nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)affects coronary artery disease(CAD)and identify candidate mediators.METHODS:Patients who underwent coronary angiography were consecutively recruited. The patients were classified into four groups by coronary artery stenosis:A,insignificant;B,one-vessel disease;C,two-vessel disease;and D,three-vessel disease.Abdominal ultrasonography was performed to determine the presence of a fatty liver and categorize by grade:0,no evidence;1,mild;2,moderate;and 3,severe.We measured not only known CAD risk factors, but also serum insulin,HOMA-index,adiponectin,interleukin-6,tumor necrosis factor-αand high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels.RESULTS:Of the 134 patients who met the inclusion criteria,82(61.2%)had ultrasonographically diagnosed NAFLD.Among the 46 patients with CAD,37(80.4%)had evidence of a fatty liver. The two groups(A vs B-D)were significantly different in terms of age, total cholesterol,triglycerides,low-density lipoprotein levels and fatty liver.Coronary artery stenosis was strongly associated with fatty liver in a grade-dependent manner(P=0.025).In binary logistic regression,NAFLD was a significant independent predictor of CAD(P=0.03,OR=1.685;95%CI:1.051-2.702).Among the candidate mediators, the serum adiponectin level showed a trend toward lowering based on CAD progression(P=0.071).CONCLUSION:NAFLD is an independent risk factor for CAD in a grade-dependent manner. Moreover, adiponectin might be related to the pathogenesis of NAFLD. | Dae Hee Choi Sung Joon Lee Chang Don Kang Myoung Ok Park Dong Wook Choi Tae Suk Kim Wonho Lee Byung Ryul Cho Yong Hoon Kim Bong-ki Lee Dong Ryeol Ryu Ji Won Lee | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,38: | 5 |

| 5 | Evaluation of Some Stem Taper Models for Camellia japonica in Mount Halla, Korea显示文摘This study was conducted to evaluate the performance of the four stem taper models on Camellia japonica in Jeju Island, Korea using fit statistics and lack-of-fit statistics. The five statistical criteria that were used in this study were standard error of estimate(SEE), mean bias( E), absolute mean difference(AMD), coefficient of determination(R2), and root mean square error(RMSE). Results showed that the Kozak model 02 stem taper had the best performance in all fit statistics(SEE: 3.4708, E : 0.0040 cm, AMD : 0.9060 cm, R2 : 0.9870, and RMSE : 1.2545). On the other hand, Max and Burkhart stem taper model had the poorest performance in each statistical criterion(SEE: 4.2121, E : 0.2520 cm, AMD : 1.1300 cm, R2 : 0.9805, and RMSE: 1.5317). For the lack-of-fit statistics, the Kozak model 02 also provided the best performance having the best AMD in most of the relative height classes for diameter outside bark prediction and in most of the DBH classes for total volume prediction while Max and Burkhart had the poorest performance. These stem taper equations could help forest managers to better estimate the diameter outside bark at any given height, merchantable stem volumes and total stem volumes of the standing trees of Camellia japonica in the forests of Jeju Island, Korea. | Sung Cheol JUNG Yeon Ok SEO Hyun Kyu WON Roscinto Ian C.LUMBRES | 2015 | Journal of Mountain Science2015,12,6: | 0 |
| 6 | High-throughput computational-experimental screening protocol for the discovery of bimetallic catalysts显示文摘To accelerate the discovery of materials through computations and experiments,a well-established protocol closely bridging these methods is required. We introduce a high-throughput screening protocol for the discovery of bimetallic catalysts that replace palladium(Pd),where the similarities in the electronic density of states patterns were employed as a screening descriptor.Using first-principles calculations,we screened 4350 bimetallic alloy structures and proposed eight candidates expected to have catalytic performance comparable to that of Pd.Our experiments demonstrate that four bimetallic catalysts indeed exhibit catalytic properties comparable to those of Pd.Moreover,we discover a bimetallic(Ni-Pt)catalyst that has not yet been reported for H_(2)O_(2) direct synthesis. In particular,Ni_(61)Pt_(39) outperforms the prototypical Pd catalyst for the chemical reaction and exhibits a 9.5-fold enhancement in cost-normalized productivity. This protocol provides an opportunity for the catalyst discovery for the replacement or reduction in the use of the platinum-group metals. | Byung Chul Yeo Hyunji Nam Hyobin Nam Min-Cheol Kim Hong Woo Lee Sung-Chul Kim Sung Ok Won Donghun Kim Kwan-Young Lee Seung Yong Lee Sang Soo Han | 2021 | npj Computational Materials2021,,1: | 0 |
