| 1 | Dynamic corner frequency in source spectral model for stochastic synthesis of ground motion显示文摘The static corner frequency and dynamic corner frequency in stochastic synthesis of ground motion from finite-fault modeling are introduced, and conceptual disadvantages of the two are discussed in this paper. Furthermore, the non-uniform radiation of seismic wave on the fault plane, as well as the trend of the larger rupture area, the lower corner frequency, can be described by the source spectral model developed by the authors. A new dynamic corner frequency can be developed directly from the model. The dependence of ground motion on the size of subfault can be eliminated if this source spectral model is adopted in the synthesis. | 2 | Analysis of Major Carotenoid Composition and Its Content of Citrus Fruit显示文摘α-carotene, β-carotene, lycopene, β-cryptoxanthin, zeaxanthin and lutein content of fruits in 53 citrus cultivars were determined using HPLC. In both peel and pulp of citrus fruit, the major carotenoids were lutein, zeaxanthin and β-cryptoxanthin. β-carotene content was relatively low and extremely low was the amount of α-carotene. Among the 53 cultivars tested, lycopene was detected only in pulp of Cara Cara navel orange. Carotenoid content in both peel and pulp of citrus fruit was the highest in Citrus reticulata Blanco and lowest in Citrus grandis Osbeck. Consequently, as far as the health protection value is considered, fruit of Citrus reticulata Blanco ranks probably higher than other citrus fruits. In fruit of most Citrus reticulata varities, β-cryptoxanthin was the main carotenoid component in pulp and its amount approximated that of lutein in peel. Content of lutein, zeaxanthin and β-cryptoxanthin in peel was about 2.515 times that in pulp on the basis of fresh weight. | 3 | Effect of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor on the calcium transients and calcium handling proteins in ventricular myocytes from rats with heart failure显示文摘Background Chronic heart failure (CHF) is associated with calcium transients and calcium handling proteins. Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor has been demonstrated to have beneficial effect on CHF. Yet studies addressed to the relationship between ACE inhibitor and calcium transients in CHF are rare. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of ACE inhibitor (perindopril) on the contractility and calcium transients and calcium handling proteins in ventricular myocytes from rats with experimental heart failure.Methods Male Wistar rats were randomized to heart failure group treated with perindopril (CHF-T, 3 mg·kg -1 ·d -1 ), heart failure group without treatment (CHF-C) and sham-operated group (PS). Heart failure was induced by abdominal aortic constriction. All groups were further followed up for 12 weeks. Left ventricular myocytes were then isolated. Single cell shortening fraction and [Ca 2+ ]i were simultaneously measured by laser scanning confocal microscope under the field stimulation (1.0 Hz). Reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blot were performed to evaluate the changes of mRNA and protein of Na +-Ca 2+ exchanger (NCX1), sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca 2+ -ATPase (SERCA2) and phospholamban (PLB).Results The fraction of cell shortening (FS%) and [Ca 2+ ] imax (nmol/L) were significantly reduced in group CHF-C compared with group PS (FS%: 7.51±1.15 vs 13.21±1.49;[Ca 2+ ] imax :330.85±50.05 vs 498.16±14.07; both P <0.01), and restored at least partially in CHF-T group. In CHF-C group, the left ventricular mRNA of NCX1 and PLB were significantly upregulated in comparing with PS group (R NCX1/β-Actin : 0.51±0.12 vs 0.19±0.06, P <0.01; R PLB/β-Actin : 0.26±0.12 vs 0.20±0.08, P <0.05), while SERCA2 mRNA was downregulated (0.48±0.10 vs 0.80±0.11, P <0.01). The mRNA levels of NCX1 and SERCA2 in CHF-T group were between the CHF-C and PS group, and the differences of the latter two groups were significant (all P <0.05). In CHF-C and CHF-T groups, the protein expression of NCX1 were 1.141±0.047 and 1.074±0.081 times of that in PS group respectively (both P <0.05), and SERCA2 protein levels were 0.803±0.100 and 0.893±0.084 times of that in PS group respectively (both P <0.05). | 6 | Observations on the application of artificial neural network to predicting ground motion measures显示文摘Application of the artificial neural network (ANN) to predict pseudospectral acceleration or peak ground acceleration is explored in the study.The training of ANN model is carried out using feed-forward backpropagation method and about 600 records from 39 California earthquakes.The statistics of the residuals or modeling error for the trained ANN-based models are almost the same as those for the parametric ground motion prediction equations,derived through regression analysis;the residual or modeling error can be modeled as a normal variate.The similarity and differences between the predictions by these two approaches are shown.The trained ANN-based models,however,are not robust because the models with almost identical mean square errors do not always lead to the same predictions.This undesirable behaviour for predicting the ground motion measures has not been shown or discussed in the literature;the presented results,at least,serve to raise questions and caution on this problem.A practical approach to ameliorate this problem,perhaps,is to consider several trained ANN models,and to take the average of the predicted values from the trained ANN models as the predicted ground motion measure. | Hanping Hong Taojun Liu Chien-Shen Lee | 2012 | Earthquake Science2012,25,2: | 0 |
| 7 | The Physiological Mechanism of Postphloem Sugar Transport in Citrus Fruit显示文摘The dynamics of translocation and partitioning of 14C-phothsynthates, the concentration of sucrose in fruit tissues and the effects of the membrane carrier- and ATPase-specific inhibitors on 14C-sucrose uptake by juice sacs of the satsuma mandarin (Citrus unshiu Marc. cv. Miyagawa wase) fruit were examined at the stage of fruit enlargement and fruit full ripe. Kinetic data of 14C-photosynthate translocation indicated that the rate of photosynthate transport into juice sacs decreased with fruit maturation and sugar accumulation. Along the photosynthate translocation path, i.e. from vascular bundles to segment epidermis then to juice sacs, a descending sugar gradient was observed. With fruit maturation and sugar accumulation in juice sacs, the 14C photosynthate gradient increased, whereas the static sucrose concentration gradient decreased with fruit maturation and sugar accumulation. The higher gradient of specific 14C radioactivity was considered to favor diffusion and sugar transport into juice sacs at the later stage of fruit development. The rate of uptake 14C-sucrose by juice sacs of satsuma mandarin fruit was markedly reduced by PCMBS, EB, DNP and NO-3 treatment. | 8 | The Near-Nuclear Study of Comet Hale Bopp显示文摘The wavelet transform is applied to studying the near nuclear region of Comet Hale Bopp. The transform suppresses the coma background to enhance visibility of coma features such as jets and shells from which apparent expansion speed is measured. Furthermore, two cometary bursts of this comet were found on April 22 and Sept. 10 11. 1996. The latter one coincides with a strong increase in the luminosity in X rays almost at the same time. During the outburst, two globular ejecta were found, and their expanding speeds were about 100m/s. | 9 | Physiological Mechanism on the Difference of Sugar Accumulation in Four Citrus Varieties显示文摘The concentration of sucrose, glucose, fructose, titratable acid, ABA and the activity of acid invertase (AI) were measured in juice sacs of Bendizao mandarin (Citrus succosa Hort), Ponkan (Citrus reticulata Blanco), Miyagawa wase (Citrus unshiu Marc) and Meyer lemon (Citrus meyeri Y). The acid hydrolysis of sucrose in vitro was also studied. The results showed that the sugar content, the ratio of different sugars, titratable acidity, ABA content and the activity of AI were obviously different in four citrus varieties. The sugar content in juice sacs of citrus fruit was related to that of ABA at the late stage of fruit development. The result suggested that ABA played an important role in sugar accumulation in juice sacs of citrus fruit. Bendizao mandarin and Miyagawa wase mainly accumulated sucrose in juice sacs of citrus fruit. Meyer lemon accumulated hexose, and Ponkan citrus was the sucrose-hexose accumulating type variety. In Meyer lemon with high acid degree, the composition of sugar in juice sacs was determined by acid-hydrolysis of sucrose.
