1Roles of manganese oxides in degradation of phenol under UV-Vis irradiation:Adsorption,oxidation,and photocatalysis显示文摘Manganese oxides are known as one type of semiconductors,but their photocatalysis characteristics have not been deeply explored.In this study,photocatalytic degradation of phenol using several synthesized manganese oxides,i.e,acidic birnessite (BIR-H),alkaline birnessite (BIR-OH),cryptomelane (CRY) and todorokite (TOD),were comparatively investigated.To elucidate phenol degradation mechanisms,X-ray diffraction (XRD),ICP-AES (inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy),TEM (transmission electronic microscope),N 2 physisorption at 77 K and UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS) were employed to characterize the structural,compositional,morphological,specific surface area and optical absorption properties of the manganese oxides.After 12 hr of UV-Vis irradiation,the total organic carbon (TOC) removal rate reached 62.1%,43.1%,25.4%,and 22.5% for cryptomelane,acidic birnessite,todorokite and alkaline birnessite,respectively.Compared to the reactions in the dark condition,UV- Vis exposure improved the TOC removal rates by 55.8%,31.9%,23.4% and 17.9%.This suggests a weak ability of manganese oxides to degrade phenol in the dark condition,while UV-Vis light irradiation could significantly enhance phenol degradation.The manganese minerals exhibited photocatalytic activities in the order of:CRY > BIR-H > TOD > BIR-OH.There may be three possible mechanisms for photochemical degradation:(1) direct photolysis of phenol;(2) direct oxidation of phenol by manganese oxides;(3) photocatalytic oxidation of phenol by manganese oxides.Photocatalytic oxidation of phenol appeared to be the dominant mechanism.Qin Zhang Xiaodi Cheng Chen Zheng Xionghan Feng Guohong Qiu Wenfeng Tan Fan Liu 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,11:11
2Fabrication of Flexible Transparent Conductive Films with Silver Nanowire by Vacuum Filtration and PET Mold Transfer显示文摘The flexible transparent conductive films(FTCFs) of silver nanowire-polyethylene terephthalate(AgNWPET) were prepared by a facile method including vacuum filtration and mold transferring.The effect of silver nanowire weight density on the optical and electrical properties of films,as well as the electrical percolation was investigated.The obtained typical AgNW-PET film exhibited high figure of merit of31.3×10^(-3)Ω^(-1) with low sheet resistance of 4.95 Ω sq^(-1) and high transparency at 550 nm of 83.0%(excluding PET substrate).The resulting FTCFs based on PET substrate with high transmittance and low sheet resistance have a great potential in the application of high-performance flexible electronics and photovoltaic devices.Wei Xu Qingsong xu Qijin Huang Ruiqin Tan Wenfeng Shen Weijie Song 2016Journal of Materials Science & Technology2016,32,2:8
3Relation of lead adsorption on birnessites with different average oxidation states of manganese and release of Mn^(2+)/H^+/K^+显示文摘The characteristics of Pb2+ adsorption on the surface of birnessites with different average oxidation states (AOS) of Mn, synthesized under acidic and alkali conditions, were investigated. The results indicated that the amount of adsorbed Pb2+ increased with the increase of Mn AOS in birnessites. The amount of Pb2+ adsorbed positively correlated with the amount of released Mn2+, H+, and K+ (r = 0.9962 > 0.6614, n = 14, α = 0.01). The released Mn2+, H+, and K+ were derived mostly from the corresponding cations adsorbed on the vacant sites. 4Mineralogy of Manganese Oxide Minerals in Iron Manganese Nodules of Several Main Soils in China显示文摘X-ray diffraction and selective chemical dissolution methods were used to investigate the composition of Mn oxide minerals in Fe-Mn nodules of several main types of soils in China. The changes of relative intensity of X-ray diffraction patterns were studied both before and after chemically selective dissolution. It was found that lithiophorite was a common Mn oxide in all examined Fe-Mn nodules. Todorokite, however, was a predominant Mn oxide in Fe-Mn nodules in caf-aquic Vertisols of Linyi, Shandong Province. The Fe-Mn nodules of arp-udic Luvisols in Wuhan and Zaoyang, Hubei Province, contained birnessite and vernadite. Hollandite was found in Fe-Mn nodules of alt-udic Ferrisols of Yizhang, Hunan Province; arp-udic Luvisols of Zaoyang, Hubei Province; and cal-aquic Vertisols of Linyi, Shandong Province. The Fe-Mn nodules in alt-udic Ferrisols of Guiyang, Hunan Province, had a few coronadites. 5High manure load reduces bacterial diversity and network complexity in a paddy soil under crop rotations显示文摘Long-term application of chemical fertilizers causes soil degradation and nitrogen(N)loss,but these effects could be alleviated by organic fertilizers.In addition,crop rotation is a feasible practice to increase soil fertility,soil quality and crop yields comparing with monocultural cropping patterns.However,questions remain concerning how the soil microbiome responds to different manure application rates under crop rotations.Here,we collected soil samples from a rice-rape system to investigate the response of the soil microbiome to nine years of pig manure application at different rates(CK:0 kg ha^(-1),M1:1930 kg ha^(-1),M2:3860 kg ha^(-1) and M3:5790 kg ha^(-1)).Our results revealed that the bacterialα-diversity(Chao1 and Shannon index)in the rape season increased first and then decreased with increasing manure application rates,and a high manure load tended to decrease the bacterialα-diversity in the rice season.Long-term manure application enriched some copiotrophic bacteria,such as Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria,while it decreased the relative abundance of Nitrospirae.Redundancy analysis(RDA)and the Mantel test indicated that soil pH,TC,TN,AP,C/P and N/P ratios were the main factors influencing bacterial communities.Moreover,network analysis showed that a low manure application rate shaped a complexly connected and stable bacterial community,while higher manure application rate decreased the stability of the bacterial network.These findings improve our understanding of bacterial responses to longterm manure application under crop rotations and their relationships with soil factors,especially in the context of increasing fertilizer inputs.Haiyang Liu Xing Huang Wenfeng Tan Hongjie Di Jianming Xu Yong Li 2020Soil Ecology Letters2020,2,2:6
6Quantitative analysis of Pb adsorption on sulfhydryl-modified biochar显示文摘Biochar is an effective absorbent for remediating heavy metal contaminated soil,but functional optimization is still needed to improve its performance in field application.Here,we characterized the physical structures and surface chemical properties of raw wood biochar and palm biochar(WB and PB)and the corresponding sulfhydryl-modified biochar(SWB and SPB).Their adsorption capacity for Pb was evaluated by combining thermodynamic and kinetic adsorption at 0.01 mol/L KCl and corresponding model simulation.The results demonstrated successful grafting of sulfhydryl groups onto the biochar,which dramatically reduced the specific surface area(SSA)and pore volume of biochar.The pKa in the surface complexation model(SCM)indicated similar proton affinity between sulfhydryl groups and original functional groups on the biochar.SCM could satisfactorily fit the Pb adsorption behaviors,and model analysis revealed that Pb tended to be adsorbed on low-proton affin-ity sites at low pH,but high-proton affinity sites became dominant in Pb adsorption with increasing pH and adsorbed almost all Pb ions at pH>7.0.Besides,the Pb adsorption density of SWB and SPB was improved by 8.86 and 3.64 folds relative to that of WB and PB,respectively.Over 90% of initially added Pb ions were removed in 1440 and 720 min by raw and sulfhydryl-modified biochar,respectively,indicating that sulfhydryl modification accelerated the Pb adsorption of biochar.These results suggest that site density,SSA and pore structure of biochar play crucial roles in heavy metal adsorption,and sulfhydryl modification may improve the performance of biochar in remediating heavy metal contaminated soil.Juan Xiong Mengge Zhou Chenchen Qu Daohai Yu Chang Chen Mingxia Wang Wenfeng Tan 2021Biochar2021,3,1:5
7Effects of Al^(3+)doping on the structure and properties of goethite and its adsorption behavior towards phosphate显示文摘Al substitution in goethite is common in soils, and has strong influence on the structure and physicochemical properties of goethite. In this research, a series of Al-doped goethites were synthesized, and characterized by powder X-ray diffraction(XRD), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) and extended X-ray absorption fine structure(EXAFS)spectroscopy. The adsorption behavior of these samples towards PO43-was also investigated. Characterization results demonstrated that increasing Al content in goethite led to a reduction in crystallinity, increase in specific surface area(SSA), and morphology change from needle-like to granular. Rietveld structure refinement revealed that the lattice parameter a remained almost constant and b slightly decreased, but c was significantly reduced, and the calculated crystal density increased. EXAFS analysis demonstrated that the Fe(Al)–O distance in the structure of the doped goethites was almost the same, but the Fe–Fe(Al) distance decreased with increasing Al content. Surface analysis showed that, with increasing Al content, the content of OH groups on the mineral surface increased. The adsorption of phosphate per unit mass of Al-doped goethite increased, while adsorption per unit area decreased owing to the decrease of the relative proportion of(110) facets in the total surface area of the minerals. 8Oxidation of As^Ⅲ by Several Manganese Oxide Minerals in Absence and Presence of Goethite显示文摘Oxidation of AsⅢ by three types of manganese oxide minerals affected by goethite was investigated by chemical analysis, equilibrium redox, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Three synthesized Mn oxide minerals of different types, birnessite, todorokite, and hausmannite, could actively oxidize AsⅢ to AsⅤ, and greatly varied in their oxidation ability. Layer structured birnessite exhibited the highest capacity of AsⅢ oxidation, followed by the tunnel structured todorokite. Lower oxide hausmannite possessed much low capacity of AsⅢ oxidation, and released more Mn2+ than birnessite and todorokite during the oxidation. The maximum amount of AsⅤ produced during the oxidation of AsⅢ by Mn oxide minerals was in the order: birnessite (480.4 mmol/kg) > todorokite (279.6 mmol/kg) > hausmannite (117.9 mmol/kg). The oxidation capacity of the Mn oxide minerals was found to be relative to the composition, crystallinity, and surface properties. In the presence of goethite oxidation of AsⅢ by Mn oxide minerals increased, with maximum amounts of AsⅤ being 651.0 mmol/kg for birnessite, 332.3 mmol/kg for todorokite and 159.4 mmol/kg for hausmannite. Goethite promoted AsⅢ oxidation on the surface of Mn oxide minerals through adsorption of the AsⅤ produced, incurring the decrease of AsⅤ concentration in solutions. 9Changes of Clay Mineral Association After High-Gradient Magnetic Separation显示文摘The changes of clay mineral association after high-gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) treatment, and the effects of chemical and physical technologies on concentrating Fe oxides for main soils in central and southern China were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and chemical analysis methods. Results indicated that the concentrating times of Fe oxides by HGMS treatment were the largest for 0.2-2 μmsize fractions in the examined soils. For the soils in which 2: 1 phyllosilicates were dominant, concentrating times of iron oxides by HGMS treatment were larger than by 5 mol L-1 NaOH treatment. Phyllosili-cates were decreased after HGMS treatment; however, the decrease was less than that of kaorolinite. 10Influence factors for the oxidation of pyrite by oxygen and birnessite in aqueous systems显示文摘The oxidation of exposed pyrite causes acid mine drainage, soil acidification, and the release of toxic metal ions. As the important abiotic oxidants in supergene environments,oxygen and manganese oxides participate in the oxidation of pyrite. In this work, the oxidation processes of natural pyrite by oxygen and birnessite were studied in simulated systems, and the influence of p H, Fe(II) and Cr(III) on the intermediates and redox rate was investigated. SO42-and elemental S were formed as the major and minor products,respectively, during the oxidation processes. Ferric(hydr) oxides including Fe(OH)3and goethite were formed with low degree of crystallinity. Low p H and long-term reaction facilitated the formation of goethite and ferric hydroxide, respectively. The rate of pyrite oxidation by birnessite was enhanced in the presence of air(oxygen), and Fe(II) ions played a key role in the redox process. The addition of Fe(II) ions to the reaction system significantly enhanced the oxidation rate of pyrite; however, the presence of Cr(III) ions remarkably decreased the pyrite oxidation rate in aqueous systems. The introduction of Fe(II) ions to form a Fe(III)/Fe(II) redox couple facilitated the electron transfer and accelerated the oxidation rate of pyrite. 20High-performance Sb:SnO_2 Compact Thin Film Based on Surfactant-free and Binder-free Sb:Sn_3O_4 Suspension显示文摘Surfactant-free and binder-free antimony-doped tin oxide(ATO) transparent conducting thin films were fabricated through spin coating and rapid annealing processes,in which nanosheets were assembled into a compact structure via self-contracting high pressure.The mechanism of this compact thin film formation was further proposed and analyzed.The compact ATO thin film had a low root mean square(RMS) roughness of 5.03 nm.This surfactant-free and binder-free compact ATO thin film delivered low resistivity of 3.04×10^(-2) Ω cm,stable resistivity which only increased 13%after exposing in 65%RH air for half a month,high transmittance of 92.70%at 550 nm,and high band gap energy of 4.07 eV.This effective strategy will provide new insight into the synthesis of low-cost and high-performance compact thin films.Junhua Zhao Ruiqin Tan Ye Yang Wei Xu Jia Li Wenfeng Shen Guoqiang Wu Xufeng Yang Weijie Song 2015Journal of Materials Science & Technology2015,31,8:0
