1A Neural-network-based Approach to Study the Energy-optimal Hovering Wing Kinematics of a Bionic Hawkmoth Model显示文摘This paper presents the application of an artificial neural network to develop an approach to determine and study the energy-optimal wing kinematics of a hovering bionic hawkmoth model.A three-layered artificial neural network is used for the rapid prediction of the unsteady aerodynamic force acting on the wings and the required power.When this artificial network is integrated into genetic and simplex algorithms,the running time of the optimization process is reduced considerably.The validity of this new approach is confirmed in a comparison with a conventional method using an aerodynamic model based on an extended unsteady vortex-lattice method for a sinu soidal wing kinematics problem.When studying the obtained results,it is found that actual hawkmoths do not hover under an energy-optimal condition.Instead,by tilting the stroke plane and lowering the wing positions,they can compromise and expend some energy to enhance their maneuverability and the stability of their flight.Anh Tuan Nguyen Ngoc Doan Tran Thanh Trung Vu Thanh Dong Pham Quoc Tru Vu Jae-Hung Han 2019Journal of Bionic Engineering2019,16,5:2
2Synthesis of cation exchange resin-supported iron and magnesium oxides/hydroxides composite for nitrate removal in water显示文摘In this study,we reported on the concept and practical use of cation exchange resin(CER)for removing anions in water via pretreating the CER with metal salts.The cation exchange resinsupported iron and magnesium oxides/hydroxides composite(FeMg/CER)was synthesized and introduced as a new and potential adsorbent for selective removal of nitrate ion in the water environment.Characteristics of FeMg/CER were determined by techniques such as Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy,and Xray diffraction.The results showed that FeMg/CER material had a high nitrate adsorption capacity of 200 mg NO_(3)^()·g^(1)with a fast equilibrium adsorption time of 30 min at pH 5.In addition,it had good durability of at least 10 times of regeneration,which could be applied to practical water and wastewater treatment.Trung Thanh Nguyen Vu Anh Khoa Tran Le Ba Tran Phuoc Toan Phan Minh Tan Nguyen Long Giang Bach Surapol Padungthon Cong Khiem Ta Nhat Huy Nguyen 2021Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2021,34,4:2
3Static and free vibration analyses of functionally graded porous variable-thickness plates using an edge-based smoothed finite element method显示文摘The main purpose of this paper is to present numerical results of static bending and free vibration of functionally graded porous(FGP) variable-thickness plates by using an edge-based smoothed finite element method(ES-FEM) associate with the mixed interpolation of tensorial components technique for the three-node triangular element(MITC3), so-called ES-MITC3. This ES-MITC3 element is performed to eliminate the shear locking problem and to enhance the accuracy of the existing MITC3 element. In the ES-MITC3 element, the stiffness matrices are obtained by using the strain smoothing technique over the smoothing domains formed by two adjacent MITC3 triangular elements sharing an edge. Materials of the plate are FGP with a power-law index(k) and maximum porosity distributions(U) in the forms of cosine functions. 7Numerical investigation of the effect of seasonal variations of depthof- closure on shoreline evolution显示文摘The current study presents the effects of seasonal variations in the depth-of-closure(Dc)on shoreline evolution using a numerical,one-line shoreline model.Beach erosion of the southern beach of the Nha Trang Coast,which is located in south central of Vietnam,is selected as the study area.This study area is immensely influenced by the tropical monsoon climate that has a clear pattern of large waves in the northeast monsoon season and calm waves in the non-monsoon season.The analysis of the long-term measured shoreline variations from a video-camera system has found a strong correlation of these variations to the monsoon-dominated wave characteristics in the Nha Trang Bay.Therefore,a new approach for determining the depth-of-closure with consideration of the seasonal wave climate changes is purposed in the current study.By implementing this new approach into a numerical,one-line shoreline model,it is found that the seasonal variations of Dc appear to better describe the periodical shoreline evolution due to the monsoon-dominated wave characteristics for the Nha Trang Coast.Such important findings are considered to commonly apply for monsoon-dominated coastal regions in general.These findings are useful information not only for scientific readers but also for the coastal authorities and managers in order to make better countermeasure plans against this kind of erosion mechanism in the future.Xuan Tinh Nguyen Minh Thanh Tran Hitoshi Tanaka Trung Viet Nguyen Yuta Mitobe Cong Dien Duong 2021International Journal of Sediment Research2021,36,1:0
8Transfer Learning for Disease Diagnosis from Myocardial Perfusion SPECT Imaging显示文摘Coronary artery disease(CAD)is one of the most common pathological conditions and the major global cause of death.Myocardial perfusion imaging(MPI)using single-photon emission computed tomography(SPECT)is a non-invasive method and plays an essential role in diagnosing CAD.However,there is currently a shortage of doctors who can diagnose using SPECT-MPI in developing countries,especially Vietnam.Research on deploying machine learning and deep learning in supporting CAD diagnosis has been noticed for a long time.However,these methods require a large dataset and are therefore time-consuming and labor-intensive.This study aims to develop a cost-effective and high-performance CAD classification model to support doctors in these countries.In this paper,we propose a transfer learning framework for a multi-stage training process with different learning rates.The process consists of two training stages:a warming up stage in which all layers of a pre-trained model(on ImageNet dataset)are frozen;and a finetuning stage in which a small amount of the top layers are unfrozen and then retrained with a lower learning rate.The dataset for this study consists of the polar maps from 218 patients.Various popular CNN-based pre-trained models have been investigated,and ResNet152V2-based model has obtained the highest performances with an accuracy of 95.5%,area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC)score 0.932,sensitivity 94.4%,precision 96.4%,and F1-score 95.2%.These performances are competitive or even better than all state-of-the-art approaches in terms of classification accuracy and sensitivity.We also apply the class activation mapping technique to help explain the model’s predictions and increase the model’s reliability,proving capable of assisting the SPECT image readers in the CAD diagnosis.Phung Nhu Hai Nguyen Chi Thanh Nguyen Thanh Trung Tran Trung Kien 2022Computers, Materials & Continua2022,,12:0
9Nonlinear dynamic analysis of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite plates using MISQ20 element显示文摘The main objective of this study is to further extend the mixed integration smoothed quadrilateral element with 20 unknowns of displacement(MISQ20)to investigate the nonlinear dynamic responses of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite(FG-CNTRC)plates with four types of carbon nanotube distributions.The smooth finite element method is used to enhance the accuracy of the Q4 element and avoid shear locking without using any shear correction factors.This method yields accurate results even if the element exhibits a concave quadrilateral shape and reduces the error when the element meshing is rough.Additionally,the element stiffness matrix is established by integrating the boundary of the smoothing domains.The motion equation of the FG-CNTRC plates is solved by adapting the Newmark method combined with the Newton–Raphson algorithm.Subsequently,the calculation program is coded in the MATLAB software and verified by comparing it with other published solutions.Finally,the effects of the input parameters on the nonlinear vibration of the plates are investigated.Quoc-Hoa PHAM Trung Thanh TRAN Phu-Cuong NGUYEN 2023Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering2023,17,7:0
