1Pancreatic cancer early detection:Expanding higher-risk group with clinical and metabolomics parameters显示文摘Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)is the fourth and fifth leading cause of cancer death for each gender in developed countries.With lack of effective treatment and screening scheme available for the general population,the mortality rate is expected to increase over the next several decades in contrast to the other major malignancies such as lung,breast,prostate and colorectal cancers.Endoscopic ultrasound,with itshighest level of detection capacity of smaller pancreatic lesions,is the commonly employed and preferred clinical imaging-based PDAC detection method.Various molecular biomarkers have been investigated for characterization of the disease,but none are shown to be useful or validated for clinical utilization for early detection.As seen from studies of a small subset of familial or genetically high-risk PDAC groups,the higher yield and utility of imaging-based screening methods are demonstrated for these groups.Multiple recent studies on the unique cancer metabolism including PDAC,demonstrate the potential for utility of the metabolites as the discriminant markers for this disease.In order to generate an early PDAC detection screening strategy available for a wider population,we propose to expand the population of higher risk PDAC group with combination clinical and metabolomics parameters.Shiro Urayama 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,6:4
2Characterisation of a microwave induced plasma torch for glass surface modification显示文摘Microwave induced plasma torches find wide applications in material and chemical analysis.Investigation of a coaxial electrode microwave induced plasma(CE–MIP)torch is conducted in this study,making it available for glass surface modification and polishing.A dedicated nozzle is designed to inject secondary gases into the main plasma jet.This study details the adaptation of a characterisation process for CE–MIP technology.Microwave spectrum analysis is used to create a polar plot of the microwave energy being emitted from the coaxial electrode,where the microwave energy couples with the gas to generate the plasma jet.Optical emission spectroscopy analysis is also employed to create spatial maps of the photonic intensity distribution within the plasma jet when different additional gases are injected into it.The CE–MIP torch is experimentally tested for surface energy modification on glass where it creates a super-hydrophilic surface.Adam BENNETT Nan YU Fengzhou FANG Marco CASTELLI Guoda CHEN Alessio BALLERI Takuya URAYAMA 2021Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering2021,16,1:2
